Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State, yesterday, members of the South West Committee on national peace and reconciliation committee of the APC for a consultative meeting with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo. Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasiru El-Rufai, former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Professor Modupe Adelabu, D-G of NIMASA, Dr. Dakuku Peterside and Barrister Sa’ida Sa’ad Bugaje who are members of the committee attended the meeting which lasted more than one hour inside the meeting room of the vice president in Abuja. Shettima’s spokesman, Malam Isa Gusau, who attended the meeting as coordinator of the committee’s secretariat, said the committee thought it wise to hold a consultative meeting with Osinbajo who is the highest public office holder from the southwest. “The meeting was part of ongoing consultations and hearings from specific leaders and members of the APC from the southwest,” Gusau said in statement last night. “The vice president gave an insightful overview of his understanding of the issues in Lagos, Ekiti, Ogun, Ondo, Osun and Oyo states with thoughts of possible ways out. “The committee members will be meeting other specific leaders in each of the states to get varied positions so as to be equipped with facts. The committee will on Wednesday make public invitations to give sufficient notice for aggrieved members to appear during the committee’s sittings in Lagos, Ekiti and Oyo States to hear submissions the six States that will be paired for each day’s sitting” Gusau said. Former member of the House of Representatives and a PDP chieftain, USA Igwesi also commended Atiku for not succumbing to sentiments in his choice of VP. He said that the PDP’s presidential candidate has shown that he does not want to play politics with the future of Nigerians describing Obi as great technocrat and manager of resources. Former PDP Chairman in Anambra State, Chief Pandola Okwuosa said it was a welcome development which will go a long way to get the bloc support of not only Anambra State but the entire South East. Peter Obi is a great mobiliser and he has an impeccable political record in Nigeria. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, is currently holding talks with Peter Obi in Abuja, PREMIUM TIMES has learnt. Mr Obi arrived at Mr Abubakar’s residence in Asokoro neighborhood around 3:00 p.m., and both have been holding undisclosed talks. The former Anambra governor is widely speculated as a top candidate for Mr Abubakar to pick as running mate. The former vice president on Sunday became the presidential candidate of PDP, Nigeria’s main opposition. Several options have been suggested in the public domain, with the candidate being widely expected to choose from either the Igbo-dominated Southeast or a Yoruba choice in the Southwest part of the country. It was not immediately clear whether Mr Obi’s visit was in connection to the intensified efforts for a running mate. Throwback Former Governor of Lagos State and All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwart, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has described former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as a man of faith, saying that faith has kept him going and waxing strong. In a letter he personally signed, Asiwaju Tinubu felicitated with Atiku on attaining the proverbial age of 70 and urged him to accept that “there is a tide in the affairs of men”.
