@ poster, mama-gee

I kind of agree with your posts but let me just chip in that  feel things may not have gotten out hand to this extent if we really an inspiring and vibrant leadership. Assuming or just Imagine Donald Duke was the president when this happened.

I bet he would have addressed the nation and even gone as far to have it aired live on CNN. And immediately jet of to White House to meet with Obama. This is what i expected a reasonable government to have done. I bet the collateral damage would not have been this fatal.  grin

what do you mean by t-8? I hope u ain't talkin about terrorist list cus NIGERIANs ain't terrorists! its the muslims and they must be banned.

You see this is the candid point that i am trying to make. Here you go a portioning the blame to a religion. And its such typical back and forth abuses and blames that most of you folks love to trade on NL. face the honest truth and that is no matter how much fighting and bickering goes on all your threads on NL. A friends twitter update status:
Congrats Nigeria! We did not make it to the G-8 or the G-20 but we at least made it to the T-14. Who wan try us? -

The above statement is a friend's twitter status update.Unlike most of you guys on NL, that are at each others throats, quarreling and calling each other names, throwing abuses and blame on Nigeria's woes. Its time you wake up and live with your new status and brace yourselves to move on.

At least the guy with this twitter update has done that by consoling himself with humor. And has since moved on. I won't kill myself with hypertension or high blood pressure simply due to this sleeping Giant you guys call Nigeria.

Once again, for people who missed my earlier example: if you have a piece of leaf on your teeth after lunch, and unknown to you, it really looks so bad that people are either shying away from you, avoiding you, or even clearly running for dear life away from you and your stinking teeth.
Faced with this problem, now someone tells you, hie Mr XYZ, you have a piece of nasty looking leaf on your teeth.

Based on attitude, philosophy, and understanding, your response would be:
A. You fool, who told you to look at my teeth?
B. You have seriously insulted me for remarking about my teeth
C. Thanks for telling me, I'll get rid of the leaf ASAP
D. The tone of voice, the look on your face, and the way you moved your finger as you were telling me about the leaf made me so angry that I'm going to let it stay put, no matter what.
E. What business do whitemen like you have with my oral hygiene?
F. ---removes the leaf, now that the leaf is gone, I would appreciate if you could be more discreet about my oral hygiene next time.
G. The leaf, the mouth, the teeth are all mine, why should butt into my business?

I love your analogy and think that we are un necessarily making a big fuss to this folks amateur video undecided !
Politics / Is Nigeria Gradually Becoming A Failed State ? by tundewoods(m): 5:34pm On Jan 05, 2010
The 2009 Index’s failed states (Alert! category) are (from order of failure): Somalia, Zimbabwe, Sudan, Chad, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Iraq, Afghanistan, Central African Republic, Guinea, Pakistan, Cote d’Ivoire, Haiti, Myanmar, Kenya, Nigeria, Ethiopia, North Korea, Yemen, Bangladesh, East Timor, Uganda, Sri Lanka, Niger, Burundi, Nepal, Cameroon, Guinea-Bissau, Malawi, Lebanon, Republic of the Congo, Uzbekistan, Sierra Leone, Georgia, Liberia, Burkina Faso, Eritrea, Tajikistan and Iran.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_Failed_States_Index

For me as an individual my attention to this word "Failed State" started when i heard a reporter on CNN refer to Yemen as a failed state shortly after the Delta airline bomb attempt on Dec. 25. Now Nigeria is gradually being refered to as a failed state. Goodness !
Honestly,It doesn't get any worse than this. undecided

Politics / Re: Nigeria Classified Amongst 14 Terrorist Nations - CNN by tundewoods(m): 5:00pm On Jan 05, 2010
noblezone:

I am suprised that Nigerians are suprised at the action of the US.

Nobody should be suprised at that decision becuase the US have been looking for an opportunity to axe Nigeria and this is just it.

Form the internal terrorism (in the name of election) that brought Yar'adua to Aso Rock, to activities of the Jihardists in the North, to the irresponsiblity of our government in fighting corruption (the likes of Ibori are preferred to the likes of Ribadu!), to lack of willingness to properly ensure electoral reforms, to the recent autopiloting of Nigeria (as the President appeared to be missing), Nigeria is already in the black books of the US.

Don't forget that the US has already classified Nigeria as a failed state and predicted that the country will colapse by 2015 (about five years from now).

It may be that the US is doing this in preparation for the emergency of Biafra, Odua Rep, and Niger Delta Rep. America wants to distance her self as much as possible from the fraud of a Nation called Nigeria, so that the new emerging republics will embrace America with open alms.
America will love to see a disintegrated Nigeria, and by this action (and maybe SANCTIONS), the emerging republics will hasten up to break away from Nigeria so as not to answer "terrorist" with Mutallab and his kinsmen who believe that they are born to rule and kill. A disintegrated Nigeria will deny the Jihardists the "oil money" and thus weaken their ability to pursue the terrorism agenda.

In this Naira land, any keen obeserver will see that those sympathetic to the emmerging republics are happy with what America has done so far.

As for me, I pray that they will bakc this action with serious sanctions. Our freedom from the opressors is around the corner.

Omo, you get mouth oh ! Haba na only you fit talk this kan one, undecided
But on a serious note i dey feel your yarn abeg !

Politics / Office Of The Prophet General Of The Federal Republic Of Nigeria by tundewoods(m): 2:12pm On Jan 02, 2010

With each passing day i get tired of seeing newspapers headlines of so called prophets or primates predicting this or that regards to our country Nigeria,of which its usually negative and political related prophesies which in most cases hardly hits bulls eye.

After going through the following threads on NL :

Primate Ayodele’s 2010 Shocker -democracy Will Break Nigeria
https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-372099.0.html

Prophets Disagree Over Yar’adua’s Return
https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-374553.0.html

I recommend that FG may have to appoint or create the Office of the Prophet General. So that we can reduce all the sources of so called prophesies to be channeled through a single source. And have him fired when ever he fails to deliver. grin

I can never stop getting high on the tribe called quest's :+ People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm :

Do you remember their "Can I Kick It" famous rap verses :

Those were dem' days
[Q-Tip]
Can I kick it? (Yes, you can!) *7X*
Well, I'm gone (Go on then!)
Can I kick it? To all the people who can Quest like A Tribe does
Before this, did you really know what live was?
Comprehend to the track, for it's why cuz
Gettin measures on the tip of the vibers
Rock and roll to the beat of the funk fuzz
Wipe your feet really good on the rhythm rug
If you feel the urge to freak, do the jitterbug
Come and spread your arms if you really need a hug
Afrocentric living is a big shrug

A life filled with *HORN* that's what I love
A lower plateau is what we're above
If you diss us, we won't even think of
Will Nipper the doggy give a big shove?
This rhythm really fits like a snug glove
Like a box of positives is a plus, love
As the Tribe flies high like a dove

[Phife Dawg]
Can I kick it? (Yes, you can!) *7X*
Well, I'm gone (Go on then!)
Can I kick it? To my Tribe that flows in layers
Right now, Phife is a poem sayer
At times, I'm a studio conveyor
Mr. Dinkins, would you please be my mayor?
You'll be doing us a really big favor
Boy this track really has a lot of flavor
When it comes to rhythms, Quest is your savior
Follow us for the funky behavior

Make a note on the rhythm we gave ya
Feel free, drop your pants, check your ha-ir
Do you like the garments that we wear?
I instruct you to be the obeyer
A rhythm recipe that you'll savor
Doesn't matter if you're minor or major

Yes, the Tribe of the game, rhythm player
As you inhale like a breath of fresh air

Music/Radio / 20 Years Later : A Retrospective Of 1990's Rap Music by tundewoods(m): 5:33pm On Dec 25, 2009
How time flies,2010 is fast approaching and  was going through my old suff and i bumped into my first copy of Black Beat Magazine i got back in 1990 for 2 Naira. LOL ! flipping through it brought back the memories of what we listened to back in secondary school when Naija rap was yet to even evolve.

These were the rap albums that shaped 1990 back then.

9. EPMD - Business As Usual
Business as usual? EPMD's third entry was anything but. The classic soul production that blessed their first two had evolved into frenetic blasts of funk, the rhymes had grown increasingly confrontational.

8. Brand Nubian - One for All
On their debut album, Grand Puba, Sadat X, Lord Jamar, and DJ Alamo brought political commentary and spirituality to the forefront, excelling with sensible tunes like "Slow Down" and "Wake Up."

7. Gang Starr - Step in the Arena
Virtually fresh on the scene, Guru and DJ Premier quickly stood out from their peers by meshing thoughtful lyrics with snazzy, sample-heavy tracks.

6. LL Cool J - Mama Said Knock You Out
After dropping two mediocre albums back-to-back, Cool J decided to heed his grandmother's instruction to knock his critics straight to the curb.

5. Kool G Rap & DJ Polo - Wanted: Dead or Alive
G Rap diversified his rhymes to include a much-needed discussion on racial divisiveness and personal responsibility.

4. A Tribe Called Quest - People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm
Through their honest and introspective rhymes, Tribe appealed to America's urban youth on their debut album.

3. Eric B. & Rakim - Let the Rhythm Hit 'Em
These two made plenty of classics together, but none ever matched the intricately stitched expressionism on Let The Rhythm Hit 'Em.

2. Ice Cube - AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted
Following a bitter split from N.W.A., Ice Cube filled his debut album with dark stories of manic frustration.

1. Public Enemy - Fear of a Black Planet
That Fear of a Black Planet was not PE's best work but still managed to eclipse 99% of everything out at the time is a testament to the group's impact on 90s hip-hop. Dark, incendiary, and inevitably brutal, Fear gave yield to classics like "911 Is a Joke" and "Who Stole the Soul.

Now i look back and laugh cos next years its going to be exactly 20 years ago and a whole new kingdom of rap kings  and princes have emerged . I think i will try getting the original LPs of these cats and keep then for posterity sake .Because back them despoil music was damn good !

Probably jam them during my kids next birthday parties. cool

rapjunkie:

"Do for Love" (Originally titled 'Sucka 4 Luv' in its unreleased form) was the second posthumously released single by Tupac Shakur from his first posthumous album R U Still Down? (Remember Me). The vocal sample is from "What You Won't Do for Love" by Bobby Caldwell but the song actually rechopped J Dilla's production on a remix of the The Pharcyde's track Y?, and his name was omitted from the production credits. It charted at #21 on the Billboard Hot 100. The video contained Tupac as a clay figure and a cartoon figure; this song also uses a quote from Sir Walter Scott ("O, what a tangled web we weave"wink.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Do_for_Love

I now agree that indeed Wikipedia does gets its facts wrong sometimes.

That was the vocal of Eric Williams of Blackstreet used for the hook, undeniable and unmistakable. Agreed that Bobby Caldwell was the original performer of the song What You Won't Do for Love.

By the way 1998 was a good year for hiphop music grin
