Kindly drop a message please Further clarification, by non-interest I'm referring to a finance option that does not require earning or giving interest, as my religious inclination does not encourage it |

davide470: On this, I helped draft the email below and so far, I have had 100% success rate from people I shared with. Let the student send this to the council ccing the partner.
Good evening, My name is xx, a full-time international student at xx University and my partner's name is xx. I reside at xx. I had initially requested a council tax exemption as a full-time student but was told my partner is a liable party for council tax because he is not a full-time student. We received the attached bill to this effect for the period xx 2022 - xx 2023 wherein it was split into xx equal installments.
However, Article 3 of the Council Tax (Exempt Dwellings) Order, SI 1992/558 provides that 'A dwelling is exempt from council tax if it falls within any of the following Class N: a dwelling which is either: (a) occupied by one or more residents all of whom are relevant persons; (b) occupied only by one or more relevant persons as term time accommodation.
A relevant person means: (i) a student; (ii) a student's spouse or dependant being in each case a person who is not a British citizen and who is prevented, by the terms of his leave to enter or remain in the UK, from taking paid employment or from claiming benefits or (iii) a person to whom Class C (school or college leavers) of regulation 3(1) of the Council Tax (Additional Provision for Discount Disregards) Regulation 1992 applies.
From the foregoing, please note that I belong to category a(i) I am a student and my partner belongs to category a(ii) he is the spouse of a student. We are both non-British citizens and his visa prevents him from claiming benefits. Subsequently, we qualify for the 100% council tax exemption.
Furthermore, please see below links citing cases whereby 100% exemptions were granted to student dependants by the Court: https://www.casemine.com/judgement/uk/5a8ff72860d03e7f57ea8dcf/amp https://www.lawgazette.co.uk/law/local-government/65852.article
We look forward to your kind response..
Councils dread court cases most times as it does not make sense to be dragged to court for £150/m tax. |

Newbie123: Guys please advise
We moved out of our 5 bedroom students accommodation in July. One month today.
The letting agency said the repair and cleaning cost more than the 1k deposit and sent a ridiculous price list.
It's been 2 weeks we replied and sent a reminder to say we disagree with the quoted prices and need receipts and all but no reply.
Our deposit was put in a deposit scheme.
Please what do we do? No gree oo, I just collected a good percentage out of my deposit dew weeks ago. We've been on it since March this year, the tenancy deposit scheme came in to the matter. Luckily we had picture evidences and the check-in/ checkout documents sent by the agent also helped. We maintained that most damages were consistent with use. Landlord maintained he wanted all our deposit. After all dragging he says we should let go of half of the tenancy,we still no gree. We agreed to let go of £70 (wasn't a good idea). Tenancy scheme stepped in, first deducted the £70 and said the disagreement is now based on the remaining amount. We later lost about 1/3 of the money. My lesson, next time I won't let go of shishi. I do my best to keep the house nice and lovely during and esp after tenancy so why do I have to let go ofy deposit Deposit scheme |

I don't mind doing contract job with any uk accounting/audit firm to gain uk experience but my worry is, can i get accounting/audit job with COS before the main applicant graduates next year?
I sincerely appreciate your contribution. I will start applying for accounting/auditing jobs in the top 10 audit firms. What's your wife's skill/work experience? Can you focus on trying to get an audit/accounting job while you are on student visa? Then after studies, your wife can then begin the hunt for COS/care jobs. |

Peerielass: @Harddrive2012, I wasn’t sure who the question was meant for but I have responded.
No. I completed ICAN many years ago and converted to ACCA when I moved here.
There’s no right or wrong approach. You can continue with ICAN and once you qualify, you can claim exemptions from ACCA. You will then need to sit the professional level exams as they don’t offer exemption for these ones. Or you could start afresh with ACCA - this requires a lot of financial commitment and hard work so I would advise thinking it through properly before committing yourself. If you decide to pursue this route, best way to go about is to find an entry level job in this field and then work your way up. Most employers are happy to provide study support for the right candidate.
Best of luck.
Quick question please, is there any notable or practical lay back for those who enjoy the exemption. Someone mentioned that they will be restricted in some respect, is this correct? |

Hi,
I need to make an enquiry for a friend of mine who is resident in Nigeria. She is a biochemist in Nigeria and now she is seeking MSc opportunity in Health career, may be nursing, etc that would afford her to study bring in dependants and live here then she can get a job that offers sponsorship afterwards. I already told her nursing won't work as it can only be studied as an undergraduate.
However, I know I have seen mentions about adult nursing as MSc on this thread, I mentioned social work to her as well, but I don't know if it's easy to get jobs in social services after grad. Kindly advice on what course would work for this plan in reality please. |

Hi my people, my ex landlord dey carry me where I no know. We moved out of the house, rented a rug doctor, cleaned as much as we could, touched a few parts of the wall with paint as needed. Then agent sent check out pictures, he asked that some places be cleaned (we considered them clean and consistent with normal use, wear and tear). Then he says he will like to keep the whole £580!! I exchanged a couple of email saying that outrageous. He then said they usually pay 150-170" for a full professional cleaning and I asked how is that ever close to £580.
My question is how do I prevent this scam. I already said he should give me a break down of what he wants the money for, and we will send this and pictures to the deposit scheme. What do I need to do please? He cannot scam an oo eko like me now |

Another question please,
A friend came into the UK about 2 years ago, her family joined her but the husband couldn't get a job in his career line in their location so he was doing care job. Now husband got a good job up in Scotland (they currently live down south), she already knows that their ILR clock will begin again if she switches to her husband's COS. The question is if she continues on her current COS and later gets ILR, will their kids get ILR as well or will they have to wait till their father gets his? |

eniola1010: The make of the machine is not really why there is thread. It is the cloth material. Even the best machine will leave wool and thread on hoodies and sweartshirt.
U r advices to always wash inside out, because the dryer is hard and it will be pulling the wool. And when u wash other clothes with hoodie, when it is time to dry the hoodie will be attracting those cloth particule. I am also in the same shoe.
So hence, wash inside out or if u can wash hoodie with hand, and to sort the mess that has already been done, use razor or shaving stick to peel the threads and use cellotape to remove the wool (waxing style) I already wash clothes inside out though, didn't notice much difference. Basically, I need a means to wash without spoiling some of my expensive jackets, also I really want to be able to do my laundry without worrying about spreading them indoor (moulds and it's wahala) |

Hi,
Can anyone recommend a washing machine that dries as well, i currently use Indesit but I'm not enjoying it that much. I see bits of threads on hoodies and other fleece wears when washed in it.
Now I need machine that washes and dries, and gentle on fabrics.
NB; I know someone might say it's the setting of my old machine, but I know I've tried several settings but no help. |

koonbey: For one week or two? No it won't be a problem. The most important thing is that the annual salary meets up with the standards set. Of course, the monthly ones should also add up to that just in case he'll need to prove it via payslips at some point. But I doubt anybody is going to be checking his pay for every week in the past 4 or 5 years when that time comes. Still, minimising such disruptions is best so he should find away to start the work ASAP.
Can he work with his former employer in the interim? Yes, if the job is on the shortage occupation list OR is in the same occupation code as the job he is sponsored for, he can work with them without needing to notify Home Office. The caveat is that such work must not pass 20 hours per week. Otherwise, he'll need to be sponsored for the second job, too.

Quick question guys, so an immigrant on a tier 2 skilled worker visa got another job outside of his current city, He resigned from his current job and switched visa with the new employer as sponsor. He then was unable to relocate his family because he couldn't find a house to live in on time.
While waiting to get a house, his start date for the next job passes by so he was unable to work 37.5hrs (sponsored visa requirement). During the wait period, he had due communication with the new employer.
Will this be a problem in getting his ILR when the time comes?
Also can he engage in bank shifts with his old employer while he waits?
Thanks |
