adeniyitheprof:where does the bible claim that it contains all that Jesus, the apostles and the early christians did and say? If you can show where the bible says this ur question is non seqiter. As for ur statement, i leave u to ur ignorance. |
adeniyitheprof:so you just have to claim ignorance, an upside down cross is a symbol of the see of peter! Go and read up on symbolism especially in the early church, a fish is a symbol of Christ and upside down cross in a popes chair is a symbol of the see of peter. b]If you should say that there is “You shall not make any graven images" in catechism of the catholic church, why do Catholics still make images of Mary? and Why do Catholics still bow before the images of Mary and whereas it is clearly written that "Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them..." —Exodus 20:5?[/b]this shows you lack understanding of scriptures unfortunately i do not have time for back and forth arguement now |
SalC:i simply stated the obvious. You complete each others sentences, you are in each other heads and minds, almost as if u complete each other. This is a marriage thread so u guys should give ur testimony. |
Your copy and paste is simply a collection of fairy tales. 1st, A Halo in Christian art does not mean that tthe person portrayed is a diety, if paul is drawn in Christian art he will have a halo, if peter is drawn there will be a halo, the same applies to andrew, thomas, bartholomew and a host of others, you will see a halo in all ancients churches even anglican churches, it doesn't mean diety, it means glory, it means that the person has been glorified by God. That is the meaning of a halo. Make research and stop believing everything u are told. Second the upside down cross u see in that picture of pope johnpaul has nothing to do with satanism or idolatry, it is a very specific cross with a particular story. Peter died crucified in case you don't know, peter was crucified upside down, all you need to do is study history. The roman see is historically know as the see of peter becos d church of rome was established by peter and that was the church he was leading before his death. The upside down cross is in reference to peter. Lastly, no commandment is ommitted by catholics, infact the decalogue consist of about 12or 13 statements. An ancient numbering is to number, thou shall not make for yourselve... With serve no God except... That isn't proof of idolatry that is simply a numbering system of the commandments. |
Kizmarty:there is more than one interpretation for that passage, many will say FT's interpretatiom is allegorical which may explain why u don't understand it. And yes the literal interpretation is that God thru Christ is brings a "new kingdom", a heaven join to earth, where God is all in all. But if u understand this rightly and draw the exact biblical parrallels u will see that the new heaven and earth will be manifest fully after the last judgement but that it was already inaugurated by Christ 2000 years ago when he became man and that mary represent the new jerusalem, the people of God. If you have an idea wat i am talkin about pls let me know so i can see if i can explain better. |
It is good to come to a thread and read through smiling, syncan and salc are u sure u are not married? Silvoice welcome dear, they have covered most issue, remember to send d invitation when its time. |
Syncan:d mystical city of God by ven Mary of Agreda, stong book, her visions on the life of Jesus and mary really answered much of the questions i consider grey areas in scriptures. |
Mk 9:8 And suddenly looking around they nolonger saw any one with them but Jesus. As the lenten season continues there will be a continued and sustained emphasis on change, reformation, repentance...but the sunday readings tells us around what to fashion our change, a continued, random and sustained change will probably lead to chaos and so God shows us the axis around which we should make our rotation of repentance. -The Constant God- In the gospel of mark 8 we see Christ talk about his suffering and death and peter rebuked him, 6 days later Jesus took peter to mount tabor and showed him his glory and peter said "Lord it is good to be here". We are most times like peter, our lives both spiritual, physical, financial... are shaken and changing, there are the days we simply feel like going to heaven with enomous joy in our hearts, there are other day when we have failed our lenten observance and there is a sin using us to play ping pong, the are times of good business, bad business, joy, sorrow, love, indifference, righeousness, sin, virtue and vice, suffering and glory, there are day we are feeling like abraham about to kill his only son and other day we are like peter on mount tabor, today God give us an anchor, a constant, something good that is ever static and that is God himself. Are you happy? give him thanks, sad? look up on him, discontent? then pray to him, are you bitter pour it all out to him, did you fail in your lenten resolve in the first week of lent like I did? Pick up again and moved on look at the fallen Christ on the Calvary way. We have a constant God, ever present, always there, ready to accompany us in all the ups and downs of life, showing us what is true joy on our bitter days, teaching us on our bad day, sharing with us our happy days and accompaning us on the thorny days, he is alway there, he is the first and the last, begining and end, the source and goal of our lives. Place your faith in him, place your trust in him, be in him and for him and say with st Paul "If God be for me who can be against me!!", "If he justifies me who can condemn me?" he is my constant! If I am with him I shall not fear misfortune, sin shall not bug me down, fortune will not make me proud and my joy shall multiply, st Paul says it is Christ who died! It is he who rose, he it is who still interceeds for us. If we believe in so great a God then we will understand the foolish wisdom of the barren abraham who want to sacrifice his son, if my God is ever constant, ever faithful, what is that sin that weighs me down, who is the guys/lady that vexs me, the one I dislike? What is food that i will not abstain? That offense that i will not forgive. My God suffices and me he rid me of my Me-ness and help me trust more and more in him. Let nothing trouble you Let nothing frighten you Everything passes God never changes Patience obtains all Whoever has God Wants for nothing God alone is enough st Theresa soso Chukwu di enuf |
Bobbysworld28:the bible actual records Jesus in a temple that had images and he didn't distroy them instead he said d temple was to b a house of prayer! That is enough proof that he didn't condemn it! All the christian church the apostles found have image from earliest time to this day that is enough proof they didn't condemn it either. Jesus who was always in God's presence did not use image nor did he ask us to.yet he still went to d temple wit images and said it was to be a house of prayer. I follow the example of Jesus not that of calvin. Oh and u prefer to pray to brother Timothy than talk with the Holy Spirit who's communion is with u forever? Talk abt stickler for idolatry!paul knew abt d holyspirit and yet still asked others for prayers. I follow his example. |
Bobbysworld28:much in my view as was also the view of early Christians, the images were there to remind of the presence of God, of the example of the heroes of faith, as a visual bible, a means of teaching! Anongst other things. At least it should be on record that either Christ or his apostles would have used it for once. They did not! Dt kind of suggests that it was brought in much later.this is a silly assumption! The bible never said that it contains a record of each and everything Jesus and the apostles did and say! The gospels and epistles usually addressed a few and specific topic! Nowhere does the bible say "the apostles did not use images and illustrations, this is an assumption you made without proof. It will amount to belittling the ministry of the Holy Spirit and his influence in our lives if we esteem man-made objects to replace him.this is again a useless arguement because nobody replace God with anything. Pls read John 14-16. Those three chapters detail out his ministry.oh, i lose an object and i ask the intercession of my brother anthony, one of the guys in that great assembly, that didn't replace God, no it doesn't because all anthony will do is relate prayers to God on my behalf. |
Bobbysworld28:you just confirmed my point! The 24 elders in heaven were offering God the prayers of the "saints" who are on earth! So yeah those in heaven offer our prayers to God!!! Do you get it now? |
Trailblazer1:the catholic church didn't invent anything, it is the bible in rev 5:8 that tells us that those in heaven can interceed, it is the book of hebrew that shows that we all belong to the same assemble and the same feast. It is from the preaching of the apostles that the earliest Christians learnt that those above can and do interceed. It is a biblical and apostolic practice. Do we follow the apostolic practices or the invented Catholic tradition?you are the person following the unbiblical practice of rejecting intercession began by Calvin If you think Mary's motherhood will persuade God to Change his mind towards you maybe you should try EVE the mother of all mankindwhat a silly comparism you are comparing somebody who the bible say was "overshadowed by the power of the mosthigh and the holy spirit came over her", the once favoured amongst other, the one through who God became man and saved you, you are comparing her to d person whose sin is the reason we are all in this condition? My dear stop insulting the work of God. Even the bible says "ye are gods".this unfortunately makes little sense to d discussion at hand. |
Papist:this is a good question, did God command the high priest to go and commit idolatry? Is God encouraging sin? |
Bobbysworld28:this is another ridiculous arguement, where did you hear that catholics depend absolutely of intercession. This is an untruth. Catholic pray to God and ask for intercession as scriptures support both! Furthermore, while Paul asked the brethren to pray for him, throughout the whole Bible we cannot find a place where departed brethren have or can interceed for anyone. Therefore using this as an excuse is quite incredible if not utterly ridiculous.so you are unaware that those in heaven can offer our prayers to God? Then open your scripture and read rev 5:8. Remain blessed. |
Bobbysworld28:it seems you are forgetting that only a viel separates the holies of holies from the outer temple. A curtain is what separated it dear, and all in the tempel face toward the holies of holies with its images. Jesus didn't run into the tempel to distroy its images. Jesus did not use images and u hv been unable to disprove this fact with one verse.my dear, you never proved that Jesus didn't use images so i find it funny u claim dat is a "fact". Secondly Jesus did use in a temple with image and nowhere does the bible say he went and distroyed the images. I showed u severally hw he prayed and where he prayed. There was no rosary neither was there a scapula.he didn't hold a bible either yet that haven't stopped your pastors from holding a bible when praying. |
antiquity:there are very few people who will know about elaho since it is a palace diety. The bini palace still keeps with d old ways, so i advise he sends the stuff back there. |
Bobbysworld28:i will repeat my earlier question, do any of the above passage prevent or forbid a Christian from asking for prayers? If not then those passages do not support you. Infact paul in eph and philipians as you quoted above admits that he offer intercession for his fellow Christian! Is that not the point i have been making? We are all members of one assembly and we have the power of offer prayers for another, in other words we have the power to offer intercessions for others. U will agree with me dt the pattern is simple. Prayer is to God ALONE.i will say the final end of prayer is to God! Even the final end of intercessory prayer is to God BTW, I hope u understand dt hail mary is a greeting. It has no place in prayer. I will deal with dt line of thought later.this is an arguement from silience! A logical fallacy! A hope you know what that means! U dont even need to bother asking Jesus, d way is open straight to the Father:now this is becoming funny, i have an indoctrinated mind say the guy who is trying to undermine intercesory prayers. |
Trailblazer1:the logic my dear is perfect because everyone who pray in the temple pray before an image! Right in the holies of holies was a image. Any serious bible student knows this. Going by your 2nd paragraph, I suffice to say that you still belong to the old Testament(covenant). Let me help you by quoting from the scripturesthis is a chronic protestant problem, reading half and half scripture! Did you also miss the part of scripture where Christians are called co-workers with Christ? Or did you just jump all places where the scriptures say Christian can make intercession for others? Or is it the part that shows that we Christian are now a Royal priesthood that you missed? Christ is high priest but each christian is a priest capable of praying for others. If you can find the passage kindly request them and i'll give u chapter and verse. |
Bobbysworld28:oh so you have suddenly forgotten that there is a image of a cherubim in the holies of holies? Or you are simply unaware that the isrealite face the towards that exact position? So you think when Jesus went to the temple which he said is "a house of prayer" he didn't pray but went there to play and dance right? If you suddenly became ignorant of such salient points then heck this discussion is going no where. You simply think it is alright to accuse of idolatry people who use images in accordance with biblicaal example. |
Good peom, you simply need to add more flesh to you lines. |
SalC:he was playing on words, it a thing so poets do. |
COM-PASSION Hebrew 4:15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are. If we followed the readings for the past 3 weeks we will see a recurring theme in the gospel, Jesus was move with mercy and he heals the sick, last sunday was interesting because Jesus was moved with pity, with mercy, with compassion and he touched an "unclean" leper even before he heals him. The letter to the hebrews informs us that Christ our mediator is able to identify with our weakness, he feels for us and with us, he has co-passion on us. He feels what we feel. He cares. But, do we care what he feels? Because co-passion goes both ways, it is feeling together or rather feeling with the other. Scriptures says, "For our sake He made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God" He is God who loves us so much to share our nature, he is pure, his nature is anti-sin, he was made sin for us! He himself bore our sins on his body on the cross, do we care? He sweated blood for Our sins, he was beaten, crowned with thorn, shamed and disgrace for our sin, do we care? Can we look a our selves through his eyes? Can we see the dust and ashes loved by God? Do we see how our love cost him? It is not just the blood thirstiness of the pharisee or the wickedness of the soldiers or the judgement of pilate that killed him it is our sins. We drew the sticks and beat him, we took the thorns and crowned him, we nailed him to the cross, He looked at our sins and his sweat turned into blood. What will we do for a love so great? He love us so much that he gives us his righeousness, what have we done with it? Have we recieved his grace in vain? Can we return to him? can we accept his righteousness which he gives without cost? Can we live reconciled to God. Can we make a firm resolve this lent to abstain now and always from all known sins? Can we practice in reality that which we have recieved by faith? The ashes we recieved is a sign of radical changes, what changes are we making in our lives or is it business as usual. He loved us and gave his life for us what can we do to love a brothers and sister, what about the poor family living in our street? Oh, what about that grievous sinner? would you stand before God this lent and plead "spare your people", will you take it as your duty as a priest to pray for him? Alms, prayer and Fasting. There is nothing more beautiful than to fast from sin, it is possible! God himself has made us his holy people, a people set apart, can we resolve now and always to reject satan and all his works, to reject sin and cling to God? It is possible to live a life without mortal sin! There are many success stories, will we make a resolve this lent to drop that sin which ties us to earth, to reject without second thought that recurring temptation or that habitual sin. He loves us to die for us will we give ourselves for his love? Peace. |
tpacalipse:no point! |
He should send it back to the royal palace. |

Trailblazer1:My Dear, I am aware you are happy that bobbysworld28 is defending a position you hold, i understand that you wished to wish him well and thank God with him, BUT it is only right that you do that is a respectful manner. All bobbysworld28's post on the thread has a response, i find it disrespectful that you accuse me by name of dodging questions when i have personally made a response to each and every of his post directed to me even though such response is not madatory. I take exception to your bolded accusation that seems to question my honesty by insulting my conscience. I hold I view different from yours, one that has been held by Christian for 2000yrs, I have a right to respectfully disagree with your and his accessment without concealed insults and questions to my honesty. Have a beautiful day. |
Bobbysworld28:It will only make you cringe if you haven't been reading your bible well. Because that is the exact function of images. Why was the image of a cherubim in the temple? Is it not To remind all and sundry that they were before the prescence of the almighty God? When they kneel in the temple were they worshipping the cherubim or acknowledging the prescence of God in their midst? What is absurd there? The bible shows us the right way to use images! I am surprised you are simply rejecting it even though i already cleared the air that no one prays to images or adores them. I repeat my previous question, do you sin when your bible is in front of you and you kneel down to pray? Bowing down to, before an image, elevating pastors/god of men unduly, etc is Idolatry.if bowing infront of any image is a sin then everybody in the bible who worshipped in the Jerusalem temple or before the ark of d covenant are all idol worshipper, i hope you know the list of people? From moses to paul who worship in the temple of before the ark? I also do not believe in elevating pastors unduly, i believe all who work in the lord's vineyard should have their respect but i agree that it is a sin to give them the place of God or the reverence due to God alone. When u r to pray, kindly pray to d all-seeing Father in secret as Our Master Jesus has commandedi hope you are aware that the passage above isn't against asking others to pray for you? Kindly refrain from referring to me as Protestant. What am I protesting? D divinity of Christ? I am christian, dts allmy dear, I am not the maker of English language, I only use words according to the colloquial usuage, members of groups that arose from the revolution of Martin Luther are called protestants because one of the aims of the revolution was to protest against the catholic church. You can check a dictionary, it is a normal english word. |
Bobbysworld28:The fact is that he asked prayers from Christians, member of the same assembly that both Mary and co belongs to. It is the same assembly, we are all in the same feast not two different feast, not two different assemblies. I have communion with the one assembly comprising both heaven and earth. Those who live and believe in Christ do not die, they are simply transformed that is why we are in the same assembly with them. Btw, u say dt u pray before an image and not to d image, what does dt even mean? Like I am chatting before u and not with u now? Like d children of Israel were dancing before d golden calf but not to it? Like shadrach, meshach and abednego did not bow to or before? Very amusing, this point of view. Unfortunately it is pointless. U bow before an image to pray like Yoruba's bow before their elders and u say it is not bowing to?. My dear my stance is not absurd. It is yours that is! Is Joshua an idolatrier, becos he too pray before an image? is moses also worshipping idol? What about Jesus? What about Paul? Did they worship images because they all prayed before an image! All jews prayed before an image. Were they all worshipping idol? The answer is no! They all pray in front of an image but they weren't prayin to d image. That is d difference. The image of d cherubum reminded d isrealite that they were in the presence of God! They knelt now and at time prostrated in front of the image, but it still want idolatry because they were not adoring the imagge both adoring God. It is d same thing catholics and Christians of all centuries have done. They all had Christian art, they all prayed in front of them , knelt down in front of them but never adored them. Do you worship your bible if you kneel down and pray in front of it? Is that too a sin ??And yes i can chat before you without chatting with you. I could be chatting with my mum even though i am in front my brother. |
