Insults add flavor to the forum ?  

Question is wat kind of flavor    Not the flavor that I want. U stumble into a very intersting thread (not that many in NL) where various people from various background and creed are airing thier views. The flavor for me here is dat I get to see other people's take on the issue and , honestly it enriches me. All of a sudden, gbam!!!! . From  nowhere somebody starts shooting off insults and the topic gradually transforms into a free for all fight. What kind of flavor is dat? I just dont get it.

I enjoy slight jabs @ people. Hell, I take some myself. But lets not mix up the light hearted "yabis" that everybody gives and takes to the maliciously, venom laced insults that some posters enjoy dishing out especially when there is a difference in opinion. I have seen some posts alleging that someone has Aids or slept with a fellow nairalander. Now wat kind of flavor does that add to any discussion?

And I cant resist adding this. Some people here are capable of hating you on principle. Peeps have never or will never meet U but they already hate U. Prolly becos U two had a difference of opinion many threads ago or even sometimes having an argument with thier friends is enough. They will just lie in wait for ur next post and cuss u out till thy kingdom come Just like dat!!!!!

Some of them argue that it is just an online persona. I dont buy that. If cussing comes naturally to you while holding a conversation online, then U have the tendency to cuss people out in real life (the only reason that might hold u back is the consequences). And believe me, I have seen some natural born cussers on nairaland. These guys will cuss U out just for the sake of cussing. They do prolly cuss without provocation

This thread is spot on. Sometimes I really wonder wat this is all adout. U cant just hold a decent debate on an issue without it turning to some mudslinging event. The fact that the person on one end of the terminal does not know jack about the other person on the other side hardly stops them from trading insults.

Simple discussion, little difference in opinion, gbam!!!! One person is already using cuss words like it is going out of fashion.
