One out of the 12 disciples of Jesus was corrupt.
And that justifies our complicity in whatever scheme u are accusing the white man of?  undecided

Either way U cut it, we will still be held responsible. Cheat me once, shame on you. Cheat me twice , shame on me.
If the white man has been that evil, why havent our leaders grown wiser to that?  undecided

For every Rwanda u point out, there are the Nigeria's , the Zimbabwe's et al to counter that argument.
There has to be something INHERENTLY wrong with us which makes it easy for the white man to be using us as puppets all these years.

They were conned into it. . . .Civilization and reh reh reh.
I don't blame any Black Nation. . . . .These white lethargic devils poisoned our lands whilst siphoning a huge proportion of our natural resources.
There's no coup in Africa that does not have the blessings of Caucasians.
There would be no blessings if there were no active participants.

U can point a finger or two at the West but U should also be ready to reserve a full fist for most African leaders. We are mostly the architect of our own problems.

I might be wrong but i dont think there is ever any "good" time to raise such issues. Are we waiting until such strikes Nigeria?
But some times are better than others.

And besides, raising the issue is as easy as saying cakes. The crux of the matter is identifying solutions. Thats where NL forums fails woefully. We are quick to judge, point fingers and even trade insults. Very few are willing to think deep and come up with solutions (or at least try to).

We find a way to blame everybody and everyone but OURSELVES. Just like my professor back home blaming the woes of the educational system solely on the Nigerian Govt, without realizing that there are places where he could take control and exert more responsibility.

Phew!!!!! I am glad the rants are over.

davidylan:
I wish many more will start to come to that realization that something is deeply wrong somewhere. It will be hard to develop if we cant see the flaws in ourselves.
David U are doing a lot of injustice to most NL members with that submission.

There is no day that I log onto NL that I dont see a thread or a post reminding us about how messed up Nigeria is. People realize that. Just like U are willing to ask questions, there are a lot of posters that have raised the same issues in several posts and threads. The only difference is the timing and manner in which it was delivered. your timing was what people reacted to and not necessarily the content of your posts. Surely u must have realized that by now.

Otele raised a very valid point about the so called Asian tigers. Not so long ago China was so poor and hungry that pundits thot they wont make it to the nineties. Guess what, China is the manufacturing capital of the world. So dont take a defeatist attitude towards the plight of the black man. We might get it right one day. I dont know how but I will tell U one thing, we are not going to get it right by reveling in the blame game. That leads us nowhere.

Take Haiti's issues for instance, your view is more long term; some posters also wanted to help in the short term. My question is this : must these two be mutually exclusive? Cant we find a way to integrate these two approaches?

and this is your example of logical reasoning? So you all love Haitians so much you would insult others because of them? I'd be glad when you all volunteer to move to Haiti permanently . . . the rest of us who dont wish to donate prefer to do so without being maligned for it. A doctor friend of mine is volunteering her time, money and effort to GO TO HAITI . . . now that is someone who deeply cares. . . not the phonies here weeping about donating $10.
LOL!!!

Now your point is that the $10 is not enuff.

David, go and open a new thread about the problems of the black man. Better, open up a new thread on why all those donating $10 to Haiti are all a buncha hyprocties. Open a thread about watever u want but at least allow this thread to serve the purpose it was opened for.

Does Seun charge for opening a new thread? Is there something I am missing here? undecided

We really need a moderator to come clean up all this nonsense.

Lets even pretend for one millisecond that an earthquake is preventable, is that enough reason to look the other way.   undecided

U talk about a big picture, ,,, tell me , how can U possibly be talking about the big picture when it is obvious that U are really missing the most urgent need here. Or does that not fit into ur so called big picturehuh  undecided  I expect someone who sees the big picture to be able to proffer both short term solution (for urgent need) and long term solutions. Haiti, right now, needs short-term, stop-gap solutions. The long term solution should come later.  If U can't see that, then I cant help u.

David is talking about Haiti not been in good shape even before the natural disaster. Well, thanks for telling us what we dont know. wink But U can now imagine how worse they are now AFTER the earthquake. Doesnt that strengthen the argument for a short term solution that will bring immediate relief?  undecided  The kids in Haiti does not really need speculations now, they need HELP. They needed help even before the earthquake. With this earthquake, the immediacy of the help is even underscored the more.

Just like Debosky said, no need showing me an ad for sprinklers/extinguishers when my house is already in flames. That dont help me much at that time. Help me quench the fire first ( grin) and then come give me ur pitch about sprinklers.

Besides, the most important point is that nobody is holding a shotgun to ur head asking u to donate money to Haiti. U still reserve that discretion.

My point exactly!!! Either you are deliberately misunderstanding my initial point or you just want to talk. undecided
I could see many volunteering and offering their finance and services on this thread yet when other pressing issues such as these come up with their own fellow Nigerians, the face the other way.
Which is why I said they must need some sort of international recognition if they are willing to help now but can't help Nigerians.
I was responding SPECIFICALLY to that post.

U probably need ur own advice more than I do. Next time make sure u know how much Nigerians help other Nigerians before u make ur contribution. Thanks.

Any form of help rendered to anybody (race, creed, sect etc) is still help. So because Nigerians dont help Nigerians (according to U ooooo undecided) is enuff reason to discourage any help going the way of people that has been hit by natural disaster? undecided

International recognition? How is texting "Haiti" to 90999 seeking international recognition? undecided What kind of recognition do u expect to get from that? undecided

You're preaching to hypocrites bro . . . they are too busy donating to Haiti that they forget the rest of black africa is only one earthquake away from being another basket case. Perhaps we should set up helplines asking for donations to help Somalia . . . they've had no government since 1991. I guess since the rest of the western world dont care we can all pretend not to care too. All hands on deck for Haiti!
I really dont want this to turn into a purely intellectual exercise that leads to nothing. So let me address the Somalia issue this way:

If U think that Somalia is not getting enough international support, instead of expending energy in showing us how hypocritical and egotistical we all are, why dont u channel some of that energy into creating awareness for Somalia's needs. That would be more purposeful than just making a mere mention of Somalia in a post on NL. Support for Haiti was not inititated by hydra headed monsters from Mars but by concerned individuals who decided to do something. Doing the same for Somalia wont hurt.

Redman44:
I agree with daviddylan's  arguments absolutely. Haiti has been governed by despots over the years. Haitian rulers lived flamboyantly while citizens of the country suffered. It seems the black man is averse to development. While I'm not against people giving money and other forms of assistance to Haiti, I feel it is high time the black race starts sorting  its problems out. The Asians have started asserting themselves industrially and are beginning to get the respect of the Western nations. Peeps should try and read Matthew Ashimolowo's book about the black race. What is really wrong with us? A good example of how it seems we blacks are averse to development is the case of the IITA [ International Institute of Tropical Agriculture ] in Ibadan, Oyo State. While Ibadan is still much undeveloped, this institute is becoming an advanced community in the Oyo State capital. Everything is working at IITA and you'll be forced to believe you're in Europe when you walk into IITA. The place was developed and maintained by whites. Outside the walls of IITA, there is chaos, filth, poverty and craas underdevelopment. God help us.
Reddman, points are valid. The impression we portray of ourselves as a race is nothing to write home about. U can speculate from here to Golgotha on what is wrong, where and when. That should be a discourse for another day. Or better , open up a thread for that.

This thread is mainly for raising support for Haitians (and other nationals living in Haiti) to help them thru this natural disaster.

Dont mind them . . . 80% of Nigerians live below the poverty line. I guess they are waiting for an earthquake before they wake up to the reality that Nigeria is no better than Haiti afterall.

Hypocrites.
@ David,

Ur questioning about the black race is valid but u chose a rather inopportune time to express it.

What the homeless and the hungry in Haiti needs now "is not a thesis on why the black race is inferior" but help in the form of cash, medicine , food and personnel.
Besides, its not mandatory. Its all voluntary.

I don't think anyone is saying that Reid is the only one who actually thinks that is the case, many in American society do as well. All Harry Reid did was to confirm that he also felt that way as well. With others, you don't know.
A quick question tho,

Was Reid echoing his own feelings or was he talking about the feelings of a majority of the electorate?

Reid's words were regrettable but it was devoid of malice. Compare that to what Clinton said when Ted Kennedy endorsed Obama and U will see a huge difference.

They don't have to, They just do because the ppl who are "leaders" feel the collective interest is best served in supporting Democrats. I am not saying it is right but that is the truth as I see it.
Now we all know if a Republican said the same thing folk would be screaming in the streets! LOL!
True.

However, the difference is that a republican will not make those remarks with the intention of highlighting Obama's political appeal.

Reid showed poor judgement with very poor choice of words; however his intentions was to highlight why Obama will be accepted by mainstream America even tho he is black.
