almondjoy:Neither did the Igbo manufacturers. Shoes made in Aba did not bear a "Made in Aba" tag. mara of fact, it bears sth like made in spain, made in italy etc Peeps (especially peeps from other regions) started calling it Igbo made. The word was coined by people other than the actual enterpreneurs. Now those same people are screaming racism for a word that they coined. Kind of reminds me of the african american. Use the word niggar but when a white man uses it, all hell breaks loose ![]() |
lol |
Easy, FSU. This is just conversation. Everybody wont see things ur own way or else there wont be anything to talk about. And I assure U that would be boring. Once again no need to be insultive |
Once upon a time , Made in Taiwan connotes inferiority. Today it is not the case. China has upped the game. Those same group of guys that made shoes, bags , clothes etc that U comfortably labelled as Igbo made are now making stuff like Zinox computers. If u feel comfortable calling the shoes Igbo made U should also not be bothered about calling the computers Igbo made. Unless U are playing by the double standard rules. Once again , not fair!!!! The shoes from Aba did not bear the Igbo made tag. Folks like U and me called it Igbo made. Same way, the car will not bear Igbo made as a tag, but folks like me and U will call it Igbo made. |
@ iice Yeah, u rite. My spaceship landed in salt lake. Reason why I found out I do not like the winter ![]() |

Anyway, it is not fair to start screaming racism. I don't even know what that word means in this context ![]() When other regions were busy referring to any inferior goods as Igbo made , everybody took it as a norm. Now reverse psychology is coming into play. The Igbos are now racist for using the same word ![]() |
@ almondjoy U used to be fun when u were babeelove, u know ![]() |
@labiyemmy:I cant believe peeps are really stuck up with this Igbo made tag ![]() Ok we will go one better, Aba made cars ![]() |
Nihil-ce-M:Says who ?? |
iice:iceland ? I cant stand the winter ![]() Havent u heard about a book called "waiting for Godot". Google it up, it is a very interesting book. Briefly, waiting for Godot is a term used to convey that U are waiting for something or someone that will never show up. That was the highlight of the book. 2 men were waiting for someone called Godot. Godot never showed up!!!!!! |
![]() @ Tosh Kedu maka nneneigbo, 2fine et al ![]() |
lol |
There is a thread for that. ![]() |
oyb:Really hard to believe ![]() |
iice, we still waiting to meet. Or r we waiting for Godot ![]() |
Thanks for sharing that information. U dont have to be insultive U know. |
Actually, it is the other way round ![]() |
@ almondjoy I understand ur concerns about safety issues and they are absolutely genuine concerns. That is where the Government must come in. They are the ones responsible for regulating stuff like this. If somebody comes up with a good concept , it is the government's role to evaluate that concept, make sure it attains some certain standard. The Govt can also make thier own recommendation to ensure that the concept sees the lite of the day. To me this concept is commendable. Of course there would be room for improvement which is ok.Remenber, the idea was dat the engine would be imported and the other body parts would be locally produced. I dont think that is overly ambitious. |
Go down on ur knees and pray. |
@ denex Maybe lol does not mean laff out loud? At least that is wat FSU is trying to make us understand @ almond Which mango tree? Tell me U have never patronized any "Igbo made" good and I will shut my trap ![]() |
@ I man I am only pointing out the most prominient factor which is entirely my opinion anyway. There might be an interplay of other factors. The Muhammad cartoons is no exception. It followed the same pattern. Some over zealous Imams raised concerns that thier prophet is being desecreted and the almajiris took to the streets. Islam we all know was spread by the sword but I am hoping that the very small pool of peaceful muslims would give us a way out. I can stay here and say that Islam is a very violent religion and Muhammad is this or that but it does not help me or any of my relatives living in the north. At the end of the day we are all still gonna be dealing with one another as Nigerians. And I dont even believe that the carving up of Nigeria into different countries is gonna help, at least not in this situation. Cos @ the end of the day, Igbos nay other tribes will still be living in the north but now as foriegn nationals. To me that is even a worse option. They now have to reasons to chop off ur head, U are a non-muslim and U are not even of the same country. |
![]() Nope I did not remenber |
I-man:My bad, I man. Lets just blame it on the rain ![]() However, I believe that no Igbo man will manufacture a product and label it Igbo-made The Igbo prefix , I believe is a street slang used to depict that that the stuff was locally made and like I said before it was even used in a derogatory manner. U guys should not worry that the cars will come out and bear "the Igbo made tag". ![]() |
Nope I did not follow ur arguments I would have to go back and see wat u meant by lol? Dang , it is tuff keeping up with all dem posts My bad! |
oyb:So basically, U are saying we should live with it ![]() @ I man Rite! But U should know that no situations are exactly the same. The situation is not restricted only to Nigeria but then the underlying causes might be unique in each case. I dont know much about other regions( sudan, egypt et al) apart from wat I get in the media but I think I know very well about the situation in the north having lived there for over a decade. Socio economic factors play a huge role in the North, at least in Kano where I lived. Most peole that exclusively go to Koranic schools are people @ the lower end of the socio economic ladder. The middle class and the rich send off thier children to acquire western education. They also get Koranic education but only as a side kick. Now during riots, 90 percent of the mob come from the pool that exclusively go to Koranic schools (mind U the very poor) while the other pool that had gotten some taste of western education, for one reason or the other never join. |
