Chyjoey: DISCLAIMER: This post is meant for genuine students.
There is no doubt that Grace plays a big role in getting an approval.
However, let's not attribute everything to grace and fail to see the emerging pattern here.
The VOs do NOT want to deny you a Visa. Infact, they want to approve you but the law and their training dictates that they assume you are an immigrant till you prove you aren't. So when you're denied, they are not saying 'Bleep off, we don't want you in our country' it's more like 'I believe you're trying to illegally immigrate, try the legal immigration route instead or convince me that you're a non-immigrant'.
This hurts me so much because I've seen genuine students denied because of the sins of visa abusers.
Now to the concept of ties, You must have ties to Nigeria to be considered a non-immigrant.
You see some of these people with Jobs they have worked at for more than 3 years with a work leave getting approved? Yes, it's grace but it's also Work ties. For instance, today I saw a woman get approved who has been at a workplace for 15 years, and trust me her interview wasn't spectacular. Infact, she wasn't even vibing with the VO, but she had strong work ties and the program she was going for was plausibly going to improve her career. Hence, she was approved.
So if you're Jobless, are you screwed? Not necessarily. Family ties - Are you married? Do you have older family members depending on you for care?(please be careful about telling fantastical stories that the VO would call bullshit on immediately) What of dependent children? Demonstrating that you have family in Nigeria you can't possibly abandon helps your case.
Social ties - Do you lead an an organization here in Nigeria that would suffer in your prolonged absence? Are you a prominent member of your community that a lot of people depend on? What of your church or political party? Is there anything there that would compel you to return?
Try as you may, some people may not have plausible ties. Then your plans for the future come into play. What steps have you taken to secure your future in Nigeria (at the completion of your program) ? You may have no ties now to Nigeria but you can be able to convince the VO that you plan to return by applying for a position here in Nigeria that would be provisionally accepted pending your program completion. (This is just an example).
If you have no ties or plausible compelling future plans, then your profile becomes really important.
Young, straight outta high school applying to a bachelors? Likely genuine student, more likely to be approved than someone in their late 20s, 10 years out of high school, being doing a 'computer diploma program' in the interim applying for the same bachelors.
Mid 20s, recently graduated (best months after graduation), going for a masters in a course related to their bachelors, likely to be approved regardless of ties compared to someone in their 30s, years post bachelors, masters in sth totally unrelated and no career benefit.
My point is Grace plays a huge role but we need to learn to analyze people's profiles when they are approved.
Check in this order 1. Ties 2. Plans 3. Profile Nice one bro |

Autos › Re: Total Cost Of Clearing A Vehicle In Nigeria by uchman(m): 6:52am On Aug 28, 2021 |
. kaysy: Let's Calculate The Total Cost Of Clearing Your Car From Tincan Island Port - UPDATED on This 12th Day of July, 2021
In this thread we will be treating the total cost of clearing cars at the Tincan Island Port via RORO or Containerized.
Example of how to calculate the Import Duty of your car, lets say Toyota Corolla 2004.
SOLUTION The CIF Value of Toyota Corolla 2004 is $1,886. Please note that this CIF Value is usually in USD and the exchange rate the NCS uses at the moment is N405. The Rate of Duty for Vehicles is currently 35% of CIF Value.
So lets convert the CIF Value to Naira, $1886 X 405 = N763,830
Lets get the 35% of N763,830. Which is N763,830 X 0.35 = N267,340.5
Now N267,340.5 is your Import duty which is called the surface value.
To get the total amount u are to pay to NCS account including VAT, Surcharge & ETLS, we have to multiply our surface value with a constant value of 1.38
So N267,340.5 X 1.38 = N368,929.89 This is your total import duty
Other Charges Includes: Clearing Agent Fee is between N80,000 to N100,000 and its opened for negotiations if the vehicle to clear are more than one. Shipping company Fee, Terminal Charges, Release & Gate + all other miscellaneous payments made to custom officers, budget around N100,000 to N250,000 (Estimate) depending on the vehicle model, the newer the model the higher the cost. This does not include demurrage should the vehicle incur demurrage charges.
To know the clearing cost of other vehicles, just ask me for the CIF value of the car and I'll respond with it then u can do the calculation yourself or I can do the calculation and give u the final value in Naira if u want me to.
Visit our office at Tincan Island with photocopy of your Bill of Lading / Telex Release lets start the process and clear your car today. Call or WhatsApp me on 0 8 0 2 4 1 0 2 5 5 4
We'll strongly recommend u visit our office in person or send someone to come and see exactly how everything is being done from office to office, once the car has been cleared and released from terminal, we hand it over to u. |

Lekiboboe: Good Morning Mazi,
Well am not too familiar with married applicants or who should be the principal applicant or not. Probably SOWP would suffice. Await the response of the gurus on that.
But with my little knowledge based on your post, i think you should be the Principal Applicant cos your wife has a toddler and a 3 months old baby, that being said, it might/would challenging for her to study at this period or even in the next few months cos of her obligations and responsibilities as a nursing mother.
Now that you stand a better chance as the principal applicant, GRADUATING in 2010 as a MECHANICAL ENGINEER is a very obvious study gap so you can't go for a MECHANICAL ENGINEERING PG. CERT Program. For progression sake, go for a Program related to your work experience.
From the tone of your Job designation and Job description self employed, my company is a LTD liability, deals on Automobile, you are an AUTOMOBILE DEALER, that being said you are good to go for a POST GRAD. CERTIFICATE PROGRAM in BUSINESS MANAGEMENT
Do your research (google) on the following PG. CERT programs and the colleges in Canada offering them (loads of them are located at ONTARIO) GBM - Global business management IBM - International Global business management SGBM - Strategic Global business management
Visit the links of the programs below to see their overviews, admission requirements, tuition amount for international students, course outlines etc. and choose the one that suits you

Google search for more business management (PG.CERT) colleges
As regards admission, You have a 3rd class and you have work experience, so to be on a more safer side to boost your admission chances, take your time and go through the contents in the links below before making a move on your admission application

Note ONCE YOU GET YOUR ADMISSION ask questions on this platform so you can be able to perfect your study visa application well, cos no two visa application is the same. What works for an Unmarried applicant would likely not work for a Married applicant with kids. So ask questions on this platform to play safe.
Good luck!!!! Thanks brother, I So much appreciate... Automotive Engineering PG cert? I dont know if this relates to what am doing presently... Do you know the age limit of PG cert? Good Morning https://www.fanshawec.ca/programs/asm2-automotive-service-management/next#group_overview |

Lekiboboe: Hi Honorable,
First of all, I.T. cannot really be categorized as work experience, cos I.T is a training, and I.T students are not usually paid, or they don't have a documented payment (I STAND TO BE CORRECTED)
If he has done NYSC, his 1-year service year can be categorized as a Work Experience cos Corp members are paid monthly by the Federal Govt. and their payments are documented.
Your Friend can't do a Masters with a 2.2, his chances are very slim as Canada requires a 2.1, most esp. a strong percentage (75% upward) in the last two years of the applicant as an Undergraduate e.g 400L & 500L.
Your Response to the questions below would/might determine the type of program your friend would/should go for
- Is your friend a Fresh Graduate? - Has he done NYSC? If yes, what is the name of his Job at his PPA & what were his job duties? - What year did he graduate? - Why Business Management? - Does he have Work Experience in Business Management? Hello brother, Please can you take some time to help me... I have 2 kids of 2.5 years and 3 Months, My wife is a corper, read Political Science education(Bsc) and graduated with a 2.1 grade... I graduated 2010 and since 2018, i have been self employed, my company is a LTD liability, deals on Automobile and i read Mechanical Engineering with a 3rd class... Who do you advise to be the primary applicant between me and my wife... If my wife, Is she required to write Gre? She is more concerned about Gre Maths because she read Political Science... Please advise brother... Good Morning |

Saintkollyjoe: Thanks very much. Here is the transcript: I have been blessed by the members of this forum and I thank everyone that have shared their Transcripts or have answered questions here. I have been a silent participant in the forum. In April 2021, I got admission with full funding to University of Wyoming to do M.A history. Fast forward to June 29 when my i-20 arrived, tye available dates for interview were in 2022. I asked for emergency appointment but when it was not forthcoming, I engaged an agent to find dates with the reschedule appointment tool for me and I got August 20 appointment. My resumption nis august 18 on my i-20. It was on this forum that I learnt that I can get a revised i-20. In short my revised i-20 reached my email in the midnight of August 20. Now I must print but my appointment is 7.30 am. I got to the Abuja embassy before 6am. Omo entrepreneurial NIgerians are already on ground! Printing was expensive but I was happy to pay. They also scammed me by saying that my DS 160 submission confirmation read Lagos instead of Abuja and so I must change it to Lagos otherwise they will send me back. I said no but being my first time , I ended up paying. The gate hustlers also condemned my passport photo graph. Anyway Sha I snapped another one. In all I was milked of 22k naira. I joined the queue at 7.15am. I have read all transcripts here and I was prepared with responses. Someone also coached me the day before interview. I have with me two company certificates, landed property, marriage certificate and many rehearsed speeches on why I will return to Nigeria. I entered the interview and it was then I knew that my Lagos information for DS 160 is to be transferred to Abuja and I must wait Another 1 hour. It was then I knew that gate hustlers don scam me. While I wait only two approvals were granted and about six denials. At that moment, like a person given life imprisonment sentence, I started imagining how beautiful life under NIgeria and Buhari can be if one accept your fate. Then I was called to enter again for interview. V.o good morning Me: good morning ma'am. V.o I can see you are going to the University of Wyoming Me: that's correct. V.o: what do you do here in Nigeria? Me: I'm a teacher and I teach History. ( In the cubicle there was a male white guy standing near the white female interviewer observing the computer screen. The white guy nodded at my response). She typed. V.o: said something I could not pick. And I told her that please come again. She Held up a slip on which 'thesis was written'. Me: yes my masters is thesis masters. V.o: no, I mean what is your proposed thesis topic? Me: oh, I shall working on prostitution during the colonial period of Nigeria
V.o : oh colonial prostitution. Me: yes, that's correct. V.o what will you be using this degree to do. Me: I shall be coming back to teach History at the University of Ibadan. V.o: teach at University of Ibadan? Me: yes, I've been promised a position there.( The white guy beside her nodded at this) V.o: I shall be approving your visa.... Me: I became deaf.to other things she was saying but I picked transit and pick up. I was given a white paper and she bid me best of luck. My interview was less than a minute. Please prayer works! I prayed. My pastor prayed. While at the interview my mum, my dad, my wife, my mother in law and an aunt, my children were praying for me. This is the first time in my life that things that is supposed to be difficult became absolutely easy! It was my first time at any embassy. It was my first application for any visa in this life! Ebami yin oluwo logo oooooo! Congrats bro... My wife is a corper and she read Political Science Education (BSC), graduated with a 2.1, She also have written TRCN. I want her to start her US visa journey. What do you advise? Where will she start from house? |
