Ikwerre identify Igbos as Isu oma meaning good slave

They owned and sold Igbos as slaves for centuries so they cannot identify as Igbo
They see Igbos as slaves but are just being polite and politically correct in not saying so
When slave trade ended the population of Igbos exploded leading to what we have today but previously
Ikwerre and Ijaws used Igboland as a human poultry from where they harvested slaves
They did not sell Igbo people as they themselves are also Igbo, they sold some groups in Igboland just as some Yorubas sold some other groups. The word Isuoma is igbo

Lol. Calm down, sir. Not that deep.
it is, I was there in 2011, I was there for seven months, I am talking from a place of personal experience, Igbo etche, eleme, trans-amadi, rumaisi, rumuokoro, Okrikaetc I know these places like the back of my palm, I interacted with these guys, I have seen them personally. Their Igbo features are deeper than those guys from the east, these guys are more Igbotic than those guys from the east.

From 2010-2016. Ride on. I'm ikwerre but whether they say I'm Igbo or not, it doesn't change who I am. My language sounds a lot like Igbo, my name is an Igbo name so, there is a relationship, no doubt.
It is not what people tell you, it is what you tell people, you guys projected fear and confusion first, then others bought into it. Na person wan tell you who you be? Very nauseating comment. You should be self aware and confident about it. Can you convince an Ijebu or Owo man that he is not yoruba?(Oyo) You will only try in vain. Even if the Owo man, his ancestors just migrated there from Benin three generations ago to Owo and he is aware, he will still find a link to Ife. What about the Ijebu sudanese ancestry story, did it scale through in giving Ijebu a distinct identity? It did not, even when men from your stock tried creating a distinction, men from that tribe kept saying I am Ijebu, I am yoruba.

If every Ikwerre person here tells everyone they come across they are Igbo, this thread will not be here. Many of the other non-Igbo group, are aware of your Identity, especially the learned ones, they are just trying to create confusion. It is about self denial for them, they wonder in awe how the Igbo can be so large

If they are given an order to murder every Igbo person in Nigeria, these guys will not spare you or a julius Agwu

Not surprised.....hiding true history by flatteries.
Binis have nothing to do with oghene, the true God, you worship olokun.

The etymology of oghene goes thus...
Oghene is actually a combination of two words.....oga and ene
O(ga)-meaning strength or power(lord)
Ene-meaning four, for the four realms of existence (otor-earth, ame-water, erivwin-underworld, ojuvwu-heaven)
Our God has power/strength(oga) over the four(ene) hence "Oghene"
Benin is not what you box to a corner, everything you said here makes sense to me. Edo or Benin is actually the root of many cultures you have in your tribe. There is nothing in Urhobo culture and tradition, that is strange to me as an Edo man

You can check my previous thread, I have interpreted these things before, and those things means exact the same thing in Benin. I have suggested too that that must have been the etymology of the word Oghene. Are you aware in Benin until recently, we call God Oghene-Osa, as Edoids group, Etsako still use Oghena to this day.

We are brothers, my brother you cannot wish it away.

Olokun, Ogun, etc and others are just channels through which we can reach the true God

Edo is not number 2.
The actual number 2 is an almost exclusively Yoruba state.
I said if we take lagos out.

It is an almost exclusively yoruba state with a huge city that is home to many immigrants now, especially the Igbos

UGBE634, the Benin are very well travelled quite alright, I am not arguing that ... But you said most TRAVELLED in your first remark which I quoted.... and then buttressed it with passport office data where Edo is not even number 1.
Maybe if you had nuanced it a little further the air would have been clearer..... Maybe most travelled per capita or something like that.
We might take lagos out, Edo would be number 2, I have brought to your understanding that 60% and Even more of the passport collected might have been from the Binis, that is something when compared In ratio to the yorubas

I know every state have passport offices, but If I am an Ondo or Delta man living in Benin, I would rather collect my passport right there than having to travel to my state of origin to do the same thing, which is the point of the argument. Majority of the Yorubas in Benin might be Blue collar workers, but so are the majority of people from everywhere else... including igbos, Hausas, Urhobos, name it..., I don't thin there is any Nigerian ethnic community whose local "hustling" community is made up of office working professional experts. grin
... I think we are dwelling more on the fringe of the argument than the actual substance.... which is that the demographic make up of those utilizing the passport offices in Ibadan and benin can not be compared like that. It would be very dissimilar. The comparison to Benin passport office would be Port Harcourt..... But between the two, Benin would have more local participation as a total percentage.
What I am trying to make different is this between the Igbo and the yoruba is this, the Igbo might come from his place to come and join his brother in a boutique in Benin, after a little while, the Brother settles him and he is ok and doing well for himself, he might decide tomorrow that he no longer want to stay in Nigeria, he would have the capacity to fund it full scale, you cannot compare that lifestyle to a bricklayer or a bike rider, that is why I argued that the population of travellers in Benin from Urhobo and even the yoruba stock is far less when compared to the igbo.

What is working for the Binis is the Unity, most of our brothers and sisters that left early and have found their footing tend to come back for their siblings strongly

Still, there is no way you can compare the demography of Benin and Ibadan. Benin is a major city in a demographically diverse state and an even more diverse region. The Bini are not the only ones who travel in Benin. The Esan and to an extent the Afenmai are heavy travellers too, even Yoruba. Do you know how many Yorubas use the Benin passport office? It is sorta like BEDC over there that controlls electricity supply to eastern Yorubaland like Ondo and Ekiti. Unless you don't want to make that distinction... And these are all ethnicities that have a heavy population in Benin.
Afemai and Esan are considered Edos by me. Afenmai would rather travel to the north than to europe, they have a large chunk in Kano and Kaduna. The heavy travellers in Edo state are Binis, Esan travel too but you cannot compare the ratio to the Binis, Esan population in Asaba, sapele and Agbor might be more than their population in Europe , and even at that Esan still dae learn where Bini dae. My brother I am telling you without fear or favour, not to denigrate your tribe, most of the yorubas we have in Benin at least a chunk of the Population are into Menial jobs, The Igbos are the most numerous non-indigenes and their population as I have stated before cannot be more than 200 thousand, the yorubas are smaller than that, so when you are talking about heavy population, I want to know the percentage. If we are to be talking about travellers out of Edo state that is not indigenous , we will be talking about Igbos.

Lastly there are passport offices in each of these yoruba states as we saw in that report, a yoruba man would not have to come down from Ekiti or Ondo to collect his passport in Benin. The scenario of Bedc is a different scenario

compare that with population of:

Igbos ...Including Anioma
Urhobo
Itsekiri
Ijaw
Yoruba
Ebira
Hausa
Isoko .. Etc in Benin... and you will understand.
They are economic immigrants, they came to Benin to hustle, they are not majorly the ones travelling, the group that usually travels there are the Igbos, their total number can't be more than 200 thousand. Compare that with the Bini majority in the city. I don't want to assign occupations to the Urhobos, and the Hausas, that would be derogatory to their image but we know what they do here. Ebiras,Isoko, Ijaw,Itsekiris are not much here.

You cannot also wish away the population of hausas in Ibadan too

The population of Urhobo travellers in Benin is very minimal

You can see there, that the state higher than Edo in the south west, are Oyo and lagos. Edo is third, and also we cannot bank on Oyo and lagos because there is large number of immigrants there, many of the people getting their passport in these state might not be Yoruba

When you compare Benin as a people in terms of ratio to the yorubas, you would understand what I am talking about. As our population increases mightily you will understand.

In that link the Iyase of Benin talked about having 20 of his family members in London alone. Let alone the entire Uk or the population of the entire Binis in diaspora. Timestamp 20:50 to 21:02. Many of these things, infact most of it came to be after she became capital in 1906. Lagos would not have been lagos but for her capital status

All those amenities were already in existence in Lagos before any ethnic group ever came and that was why it was chosen as the capital of Nigeria.

Mind you, Calabar was the Capital even long before it was moved to Lagos.

Why is Calabar not developing like Lagos?

Calabar was capital for about 7 years, don't be clever by half. Lagos was capital for 85 years, she only dropped capital status in 1991

The winner of 2022 Italian masterchef is an Edo lady.

It's estimated that between 2 to 6 billion dollars of the about 20 billion diaspora annual remittances to Nigeria goes to Edo state.

You can stay anywhere in europe with an EU kpali. I found out even as we are the most numerous in Italy, Italy also seem like a transit point for many Edos who ventured out of Africa through foot. Once they get their paper, they tend to relocate to other parts of Europe. That would explain the about 150,000 Nigerians in Italy. I was about asking if the illegal immigrants in Italy are accounted for.

The border of Italy is porous and easily accessible by land, Nigerians in the Us are about 461k, they don't have a porous border easily accessible to Nigerians and yet we are that much there let alone Italy with a porous border that has become an easy and affordable place of solace, succour and strength for Nigerians and Edolite aggressively

The population of Binis in Italy cannot be less than 900k

Benin city is arguably the most welcoming city in Nigeria and her people the most hospitable. The average Benin person hardly travel to other parts of Nigeria to hustle except Lagos.

Most interactions the average Benin person will have with other Nigerians are usually within Edo state and as a result they have very little knowledge of the level of tribalism, jealousy, bigotry and historical grievances that flows through the veins of some of these tribes. Some of these are even exhibited in the academic works of some of them that write something about Benin history. So you have those who are trying to undermine Benin history, culture and traditions and others who are trying to steal the history and heritage as theirs.

As more Benin travel out of Edo state, their eyes begin to open to some of these things, the patriot in them are activated. The revival of Benin history, culture and traditions are now being championed by mostly Edo in diaspora. There are several Edo social cultural organisations in the diaspora that celebrate the annual Igue festival whilst most so called Benin Christians in Edo state no longer celebrate Igue festival.

You are right, Nigeria do have an expiring date unless it restructure and Edo have what others don't have, our history. Rome, Egypt, Athens etc have developed their historical sites and cities into multi billion dollars tourist destinations. I am glad that the current government of Obaseki understands the importance of this and already working on it, starting with the cultural district which is currently under construction, I understand part of the moat will be reclaimed and preserved.
you don't need to live there for the patriot in you to be activated. It is just about who we are as a people, we are lovers of truth and Justice, I have seen a thread, where someone recounted a story of a Benin youth corper that almost lynched a yoruba youth corper because he bastardized and made joke of the story of Ekaladerhan. There are some of us who have the nationalistic spirit in us and can die for Edo, we don't live there.

As for those who adopt christianity as a way of life is a personal thing. Some of the reasons why Edos there no longer care so much about christianity is because they've seen that the white man is not so pumped about the christianity so they revert back to our customs and traditions.

I have been a guest since 2011 and could no longer take it when other yorubas and tao continued with their seamless show of ignorance and joke about Benin history. You can see from the write up how frustrated I was when I typed this
