ATERI: The Chinese want all their children to either be academically good or die, hence the high suicide rate among their youngsters. You mean that is better and more civilized? The Chinese children continue to do well abroad because they stick to their Chinese culture while we abandon ours. The kids being punished here are learning about responsibility very early in life; please, tell me what not to like. Everything in life is relative; I won`t be told how to raise my children by Westerners because the difference is clear. It`s Africans that do not know what is good about their culture, or haven`t lived in the West that should be trying to fix what is not broken. We have to sort out politics in Africa, but that problem is not bigger than the socio-cultural mess the West faces today, propaganda apart! I'm not talking about Chinese/South Koreans in Asia really, I'm referring to the ones who live in Western Countries.. They are better behaved on the average (though there are bad eggs) ; excel at school and have manners. About Chinese sticking to their culture, lol, I just laugh. How many second generation children speak Chinese? or even eat Chinese food ?? Come and see how some of them live in the bay area first, before talking. My whole point is that they seem to get their discipline right, and that is why they have less rotten children than Africans who claim to have culture.. |

2scorehigh: No way.
I think you're so far from the truth, Mr. OP.
Those of us who know Adichie know that she was telling her own personal story in that book using the character Ifemelu to present her own personal views on so many issues.
Thus, Ifemelu condemned "sugar daddyism" by not joining in it even when her friends did. If you recall, she even wondered why women will just put themselves into such a situation where men will be fulfilling their materialistic needs in exchange for sex.
Two, Adichie told you the simple truth: American grass is not that green. Even European grass too. Ifemelu had to 'work' as a 'sex worker' with the man who wants sexual massage just to earn a living. Aunty Uju was always busy reading so that she can acquire a certificate to earn a better living in America.
Racism is also still an issue because Ifemelu's life became easier only when she started dating a white boy. Obinze had to fake a marriage to become a British citizen but in the meantime he was using a fake identity to work just to survive... and look at the type of job he was even doing! Before then, Obinze was only good as a babysitter for his cousin. Can you imagine! That's the same obodo oyibo everybody is raving about!
So these thing happen. Trying to deny it or expecting the author who has also lived in America not to highlight such things is not justice.
Thirdly, like someone has already told you Mr. OP, the book is not really about morality. If you want to read a moral book, it's simple, read any publication from our Nigerian pastors or even better still, just write it!
Finally, I don't see how marriage was ridiculed. If anything, I think Adichie was simply promoting the idea that people should always marry the person they love. Simple.
Obinze married his wife who was just available. Wrong move. He was never satisfied in his marriage. Who told you Kosi is the type of woman every man will like to settle down with? C'mon, that Kosi is nothing but a bimbo! To be frank with you, I wouldn't marry Kosi myself because she can never give me what I want in a woman.
She's just a beautiful girl but she seriously lacked the ability to give her husband the type of challenge he wanted - the type his former girlfriend Ifemelu is always presenting to him. Kosi was just like our typical African women who may even be okay with the idea that their husband is having extramarital affairs... as long as he is rich and/or he is still bringing in the money!
Aunty Uju 'prostituted' her life. She chose money over love. Wrong move. Look what she got in the end. She lost her so called security in a jiffy the moment the Army general died. In fact, she had to 'escape' to avoid the wrath coming from the army general family. She also became a single mother for life. Even years later, when she tried to get a 'father' for her son, you will notice that the connection was not there with the man she was in relationship with. And this is a better review... 5 Likes |

N.B: The essence of this information is mainly to expose the lies of the notorious history distortionists and wicked propagandists who insult and malign others continually with lies and falsehood, and shout and make much noise on every available media. Disciple of hate and propaganda, here are the members of Yoruba tribe that participated in the January 1966 coup: (See Ben Gbulie: ‘Nigeria’s Five Majors.’).
*Adewale Ademoyega is the most prominent Yoruba participant in the coup, there were other Yoruba officers who were involved at the dangerous execution stage of the coup. One of them is:
*Second Lieutenant Olafimihan, an officer serving under Madiebo in Kaduna. He was sent by the plotters to gauge his commander’s loyalty. (See Madiebo pp.17-18).
*Another is Lieutenant (some books refer to him as a Captain) Fola Oyewole. He, like Ademoyega, went on to fight for Biafra and wrote a book on his coup and wartime experiences. The book’s title is ‘Reluctant Rebel.’
*There is also Captain Ganiyu Adeleke who became an instructor in the Biafran Infantry School. For confirmation, see the list of coup plotters detained by Ironsi’s regime in Ademoyega pp.106-108, and this quote from Nowa Omoigui’s online account: ‘Mid-Western Invasion of 1967’: ‘Captain Ganiyu Adeleke, who had taken part in both the January 15 coup and the Mid-Western invasion before becoming an instructor in the Biafran School of Infantry was released at a later date after his co-plotters had been freed.’ Omoigui’s work is significant because, though he exhibits a high level of professionalism in his research, he has no sympathy for the January 15 coup. If his facts corroborate Ademoyega’s they are worthy of attention.

You people's brains are just blocked to reasoning properly. All you think is Biafra, Biafra without reasoning properly. When other countries are looking for ways to expand territory, you want to disintegrate your own country, how wise is that? Quebec has a definite area, Scotland has a definite area, Wallonia has a definite area, even Catalonia has a definite area, does Biafra have one Okay that said, If Scotland could not leave UK, and Quebec could not leave Canada, You think "Biafra" which by the way is fraudulent would just walk away like that Or assuming Biafra leaves it will not be overburdened by its own share of the national debt, and judging by how you miscreants are behavibg, are not in good terms with its neighbours, how will such country develop? Who is the leader? What Makes Nnamdi Kanu think he is qualified to lead the Igbo nation, what are his antecedents When an Ipob tout answers these questions convincingly, then I will take them a lil bit more serious. 93xtr09r: Lying propagandist are still going about with their silly lies and propaganda just because they are too bitter that the Igbo Nation more than ever before is ever determined to have a separate existence from greedy, treasury looters cum murderous parasites.
"Despite the fact that Nzeogwu was now technically an enemy soldier killed in combat against the Nigerian army, Gowon ordered that Nzeogwu's body should be flown to Kaduna and buried with full military honours – even as the war raged on in the Eastern Region. Even in death, Nzeogwu was still respected by federal and northern troops. Domkat Bali referred to him as: “a nice, charismatic and disciplined officer, highly admired and respected by his colleagues... ….we believed that he was a genuinely patriotic officer who organised the 1966 coup with the best of intentions who was let down by his collaborators….If we had captured him alive, he would not have been killed. I believe he probably would have been tried for his role in the January 15 coup, jailed and probably freed after some time. His death was regrettable.""
AGUIYI IRONSI DID NOT DISSOLVE THE REGIONAL GOVERNMENTS OR RESOURCE CONTROL; GOWON WITH THE COLLUSION OF AWOLOWO DID!
Gowon created the first 12 states after the dissolution of region. Gowon did the damage by creating state to checkmate the Igbos.
However a few months afterwards, an Igboman Emeka Ojukwu spearheaded the Aburi agreement in which fiscal federalism and even confederation was adopted, but the other Nigerian, including Awolowo and Enahoro kicked against it. That is why fiscal federalism has not been experienced in this nation since then.
In 1972 Gowon with the support of Awolowo enacted and enforced the Indigenization decree which led to the collapse of the Nigerian economy. To add insult to the festering injury Olusegun Obasanjo promulgated the Land Use Decree (now Land Use Act) in 29th of March, 1978.
By the provision of the Land Use Decree of 1978, the inhabitants of the oil producing communities were turned into squatters in their own ancestral homes, as land where oil is explored, produced, transported and stored were decreed to belong to the state long after political independence in 1960. The existence and application of the Land Use Act of 1978 contributed to the present state of neglect, under-development and the insecurity of the region.
And for the past 45 years, what have subsequent governments done to repeal the evil laws and entrench true practice of federal system of government? Absolutely nothing! What is this one saying The first coup was a lie or what? ? Land use act places land under the state governor, not federal so get that one right and stop lying to yourself. And besides, I'm an Igbo person too, so what is your point? Indigenisation policy destroyed the Nigerian economy? Are you stupid or something? So you rather have the key assets in your country owned by foreigners What id wrong with you? |

Pray, what do you want the VP to do to a private bill presented by a member for consideration at the National Assembly? Even if a Christian were to be the sitting president, what can he do at this stage?
There are 58 senators from the North and not all of them are Muslims. It requires 82 senators, 240 representatives and 24 states houses of Assembly to amend the constitution to make sharia applicable compulsorily throughout the federation. What are Christian legislators you people voted doing for it to be possible? And you are expecting Osinbajo to jump to the National Assembly to fight against a private bill?
Were Ekweremadu, Adeyeye, Akpabio, Olujimi and other Christian principal officers in the Senate sleeping when the bill was scheduled for deliberation?

OPCNAIRALAND: What kind of response is this?
Federal Government is a make up of Executive, Legislative and Judicative. If Legislative sponsors the bill and passes it, which is likely considering the 2/3rd clause, then if its signed by the Executive it will become law.
If the Executive vetoes it from coming to law it is still a victory for the Legislature and becomes a negotiating instrument that can be sneaked into budget for the Executive's assent.
This is dangerous. If they make it a national law they will say its for muslims only. They can mandate it on all states, including SE states where muslim non-indigenes live.
There is nothing in constitution that regulates alcohol and liquor cconsumpton, or dress mode, but Sharia does. Therefore the consumption or sale of alcohol in states where Sharia is in effect may be at risk of shutting down. You will need an enforcement agency to make it work. Therefore a national Hisbah Force!
They have a model to use to justify their strategy. In Kano, a state under Hisbah, non-muslims live side by side with their muslim counterparts and do not suffer any discrimination. If Ibos can live in Kano and thrive there is no reason they cannot thrive if Hisbah is in Enugu.
The simple solution to this is to SHUT DOWN the reading in Senate and KILL it from passing.
I wish to state that.... There are many loopholes in our Constitution and Federation that a simple majority can exploit to enforce their conscience as the moral compass for the remaining 1/3 rd.
They have not been as ambitious exercising intrigues accessible in the gaping imbalance as I expect. If the political topography continues as is and with more awareness and incremental successes going to the 2/3 rd, they may in future invalidate all national institutions that are out of synch with their conscience and ambitions and institute a new and single order for the whole nation, and it will be modelled after the Northern customs. And you think they can get 2/3 in the NA You people are just paranoid, that bill cannot sail through |

I was reading a lady`s book the other day who was found of advising Nigerian parents in London to take them back to Nigeria to complete their secondary education, once she concluded they were no more redeemable in London schools. Her point was that she had seen first-hand the type of transformation that happened to those that did in the past. You lot want to turn Africa to the land of indiscipline where everything goes, right? My advice remains the same as before: take your hopeless and ill-mannered children to London or Washington for their education and leave barbaric Africa alone.
I have just had the misfortune of visiting the thread of the idiot that was slapped by her lecturer. How I wish I could get to that hospital bed so as to tell her to get a grip. What are you talking about If you don't know the Asians raise the most well mannered kids on the average, and though discipline is not compromised, you don't see them dehumanize their kids the way foolish Africans do, yet in every corner of the world now, they are taking over, while Africa is still a useless cesspit. Do you know that just words can make your kids abide by all regulations? most parents are not just patient enough to have a chat with their kids. either pick pin, pin pick, crawl in bud, carry bag on head and whatever punishment una call it, I will never condone such for my precious child. Train your child from small with good morals accompanied with the word of God and you won't believe who your child will grow to be. I agree 100 % with what you said... When issues like this are not properly addressed, it gradually becomes a way of life to people. Before Kim Kardashian became a celeb from her sextape and got married to Kanye, the ratio of people who would have accepted that, would have been 0.5 : 9.5. But now, the figures are going up. Sooner or later, it would no longer be a big deal. In the 60's to 80's,having kids outside wedlock, was seriously frowned at and families who had the misfortune of having kids get pregnant without a husband, had to deal with the reproach that came with it. Today, it's no longer a big deal to most people and what we hear is "na today e start "? Well, you are taking from a moral point of view, and due to your upbringing which is good, but unfortunately the world does not operate like that anymore..... Homo, kids out of wedlock and all these other vices as you call them are being frowned at by less and less people as the decades go by.... In the next say 20 years, I'm sure that even in Nigeria, homos will be less stigmatized against (in the 1950s America you dare not say you are homo outside but see what is happening today) It's sad for moralists, but that is the direction the world is heading unfortunately. |
