Education › Re: Is Going To School Really Worth It? by Ugosample(m): 10:10pm On Jan 07, 2013
It depends on your motive for going to school. If you're going to school to get an education i.e. To add value to yourself and making yourself a better person, then it is not a waste. However, if you attend school because you were told that you will make a lot of money from doing so, and you don't have much intrest in the course you studied, then it's a waste of time.

As i said in my earlier post, Unilag requires one sitting. As for economics, t.he o level requirements are five o level credits in Maths, Eng. Economics and two other relevant subjects chosen from Agric. Bio, Geography, Government, Accounting, but not commerce. Check your Jamb brochure.

Messilo: Please Can i apply for medicine and surgery in unilag with this o level maths A1 eng B3 chem B2 biolo B3 phys C4, but my english comes from another sitting. I also want to know how many subject i will sit for in their post utme and how they calculate it. God will help us.
Unilag requires at least five credits in one sitting which must include mathematics and english language. As for the Post Utme, it is computer based and the subjects to be done are English language, Mathematics and General paper. As for the calculation, your jamb score will be divided into 8 (As JAMB's maximum score is 400) and the post jamb will be divided into 2 (as post jamb maximum score is 100) then the results of the above calculation will be added together to give you your Aggregate score. This is the score that will determine if you crossed the cut off or not. I hope this little piece of information helps. Good luck in all your endeavours.

As a student, i'm advising you to take SSCE again because the admission office can be very funny. I witnessed a lot of people being turned back when doing my reg. because of SSCE wahala. Cheers mate.

Unilag is on a class of its own. You all just have to accept this. UI and OAU are good schools too. Besides, there is no need for this rivalry. We should be thinking of how to better the society with what we've learnt from our various sbhools.

Travel › Re: Common Misconception Of America By Nigerians by Ugosample(m): 1:24pm On Dec 09, 2012
axponline: I have read this type of thread many times in the past without commenting. Here are the points to note

Many Nigerians come to the US after between the ages of 25-35 and some even in thier 40's. For these folks, its like life is starting all over again.
America is about careful planning. The system is built on careful planning and the concept of you get what you have earned. I used to work in Nigeria in a bank where you would get your housing allowance in Jan as a lump sum. You can never get that kind of cash in the US unless
a) you borrow
b) you steal
c) win the lottery

Carefully plan each dollar making sure you save at least 20cents on each dollar and when the hard time comes (and they will come) you have a fall back position.
If you anticipate a major expense coming up, plan for it. (i.e save)
I appreciate the fact the America has gotten harder in the past few years. The jobs available are often high skill jobs in IT and health care etc. The usual low skill service jobs that many of our folks get stuck with are getting few abd far between. The idea is to continually improve your self and the jobs will look for you.
I can readily testify to that. By the grace of God, I have a job where I work from home. I dont leave my house unless I want to. I get paid more than a US senator. I have excellent health care benefits paid for by my employer. I have plentiful savings. My wife has never worked for 1 day since we came to the US. I once started a business and ran up $80k in debt. I paid off the debt all from my salary. And I know many Nigerians here in the neighbourhood that I live that can tell the same story.

I strongly beleive God can bless you wherever you are. If God has brought you to America, utilize the opportunity (and it is a good opportunity) to the fullest and STOP comparing yourself to your mates back home. It is 2 completely different worlds and systems.

The best post so far! One can succeed anywhere if he puts his heart to it and stop comparing himself with others!!

Who are you telling this cock and bull story? So the people in Nigeria arent enough to develop Nigeria? America is not heaven, you work for everything you get which is good because a country is built with hardwork, not llaziness like many youths in Nigeria exhibit. Life is all about choices, if you appreciate hard work, them amerrica is the right place for you, but if you appreciate mediocrity, connections, etc, then Nigeria is a perfect place for you!
Politics › Will This Country Ever Change for the better? by Ugosample(op): 11:07pm On Nov 30, 2012
Sometimes i ask myself this question because each time i think of the mess we have gotten ourselves in, my heart sinks! As an economist, i know that NO country on earth develops without a sound Macroeconomic framework i.e. Good infrastructure, right blend of fiscal and monetary policies and a vibrant commercial policy e.t.c.! Nigeria has none of this, and has no plan to develop one yet! Even if this framework is there, there development mindset of most Nigerians is abyssmally low! As a Nigerian youth, i can authoritatively tell you that the attitude to work among many of us is almost non existent . And i wonder how the blend of this two unfortunate realities will lead to development in this country! But things could still change! Nothing is impossible! I've stated my views, now over to you, do you think that Nigeria can still change for the better? P.S. No vex say na travel section i put this line topic, i notice say this section get traffic well well and i wan make my article reach wide audience!.

In my own opinion, i don't think that native languages in Nigeria because apart from the major cities, other parts of Nigeria especially villages speak their own native languages!
