Politics › Re: Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala And Her 4 Children Are Harvard Graduates by Ugosample(m): 10:27am On Jul 19, 2013
tsmack: I truly fear for this nation!

Despite the amount of time some people spend on the internet, they still spew their ignorance (with pride) all over the place. And these are supposed to be the leaders of tomorrow?

You should at least do yourself the justice of googling up Harvard before embarrassing your family and country on the social media.

In case you don’t know, Harvard is not about money. It is about ability!

You need to prove BEYOND REASONABLE DOUBT that you belong to the top strata of achievers - irrespective of your race and age - before you are accepted into the school. Besides, most people use STUDENT LOANS to fund their studies. It is almost automatic.

Harvard is NEVER about money!

Ngozi's children should be celebrated because gaining admission into such a school is an achievement on its own. Why do you think some Companies only employ graduates from Harvard?

Or have you ever heard of an Harvard graduate being “unwillingly” jobless? I don’t think it’s possible!

Invest in your life by spending time reading about value adding stuff. You don’t have to play the internet idiot; leave that to the others.

God bless Nigeria!
I wish i could give this comment a hundred likes!

Billyonaire: What the Bull has done, is not about the money, its about the act. It is a constant reminder to him that his death is inevitable and will come when it will come. It reminds him not to tarry and stress up like me, it reminds him that he should retire and think about the life after death. 200 million looks much, but for anyone determined to succeed, it is very small amount. It cant even buy you life but burial spot.

This is how billionaires reason, the poor has their opinions, but their reasoning almost always makes no sense to the rich.
For once, i agree with you.

With this kinda attitude, Nigeria is going nowhere! It's always about competition and show off. The Nigerians at home trying to brag/show that they are better off financially than those in the diaspora and vice versa. Immigration is a matter of choice! Afterall, there're 15 million britons living outside Britain. If you wanna stay, stay; if not, leave. Simple and short. Dats all.

@ Rossikk, why do you celebrate mediocrity? So, the Asian countries doing well today were not on the same level with Nigeria 50 years ago? Mediocrity has ruined this country!
Rossikk: For a developing nation that's just 50 years old, I think we've EXCEEDED expectations.

Our problem is because we don't value anything that we do, we don't highlight our achievements in order to draw the necessary attention to build on them. Instead, when we achieve anything, some spiteful failures who've not accomplished anything in their own lives, come out to spit on it and try to tell us it's 'nothing'.

Demaejy: I bet you are not a Nigerian but only know little or nothing about it, please tell me your country. However, you are entitle to your own opinion though but calling the whole Nigeria a sh#t hole is totally offensive. Hence, you can stress yourself to call Nigeria whatever you like, Nigeria is Nigeria, inspite of our shithole, we are still great in some aspects positively. What you don't know is that, nobody supports forced patriotism here too because a lot of Nigerians already knew their nation more than you do. How would you feel, if someone calls your abode a bullshit? Since you know Nigeria more than what we could imagine, please could you list all underdeveloped states in Nigeria?
To me, Abuja, not even the whole of FCT is developed because a state without a reliable transport system, good drainage and good infrastructure is developed.

When more than half of the countinent's 54 countries are begging for aid, when more than half of the continent cannot boast of self sufficiency or manageable infrastructure, when over three-quarters of the continent cannot boast of good leadership, how can that continent be respected? Let's be sincere to ourselves, Africa is in a mess! What is Africa's contribution to the world in terms of science and technology, economic theories, e.t.c. Or would you blame Colonialism for that? All they see about Africa is war, poverty and disease because we refused to do the right thing! Afterall africa keeps begging for aid and the western countries are giving it which means that they're indirectly feeding many countries in Africa. Instead of looking/researching/discovering how they can be self sufficient, they look for the easy way out. If an able bodied middle aged man is always begging for food or money from his neighbours and at the same time is not trying to be self sufficient, will such person be respected? That is the situation Africa finds itself in, and that is why people call Africa names, and that is why Africa is not respected in the comity of nations. It's as simple as that!
Travel › How Did TRAVEL VISA Become A Big Issue In Nigeria? by Ugosample(op): 10:29pm On Apr 07, 2013
I'm just curious to know travel visa became a big "issue" in Nigeria. Arround me, i hear a lot of people saying, US visa hard to get oh! If you get am, you don hammer! I even know some who do fasting, praying and jumping from one spiritualist to another just to get visa. Others patronise fake visa agents that will eventually swindle him/her. And you see people who say are suffering on obtaining this visa, `miraculously raise requisite funds needed for travelling which sometimes is over #500,000. It's so disheartening! If you want to travel, do a little research, apply for the visa with the required documents needed (no fake oh!) and pay the visa fees of course. Enough of story, i would like to hear the audiences' opinion in this matter as this matter don tire me! Thanks.

Politics › Re: The African Economic Revolution by Ugosample(m): 7:14pm On Apr 01, 2013
As an economist, the solution to Nigeria's economic woes is to correct the Fiscal/Monetary policy discrepancy in the country i.e. the government running on a deficit budget (expansionary fiscal policy) and at the same time set intrest rate at 12% to curb inflation, which is caused mostly by the wastefulness of the govt via spending recklessly instead of increase in aggregate consumption accross board (as in the case of Brazil) when the inflation rate rises, instead of tackling the root of the problem, they take the lazy route via increasing the rate of lending which will stifle the economy as businesses will find it difficult to raise capital. And the most disheartening part is that the inflation rate still remains high because they refused to check the real causes of inflation in the country. MY SUBMISSION: for the economy to move forward, all levels of government should curb wastefulness and make capital more accessible by reducing the intrest rate which in my opinion is ridiculous! If you disagree, please state your own points/proffer your own solutions... Let's learn from each other.

There are a lot of funny fellas on this thread. Like i always say, life is a matter of choice. But that doesn't mean the bride shouldn't learn how to do house chores . Since i was born, i've never seen/heard of my mum washing my dad's clothes... But she does some cooking, and my sisters also cook too (if dem no learn for mama house, se na for husband house dem go learn?) and when i'm at home, i do some house chores as well, and the house is in order. Maybe when marriage just start, the wife may be doing most of the chores, but as children enter the equation, the workload should reduce. P.S. MY DAD DOES SOME HOUSE CHORES TOO, BUT MY GRANDMA MUST NOT HEAR THIS. Thank God say she no dey Nairaland.

speedyboi: Really? Okay:

1. you guys don't pay any tax whatsoever! Yet you want infrastructural development. It doesn't work that way sorry.

2. 90% of nigerians don't pay for electricity. No meter, no nothing. You just call on the nearest electrician to do 'direct connection' for you. Mtcheew yet you want light to improve.

3. You engage in all types of unruly behaviour (including the ones i've stated above) without getting arrested.

4. When you contravene rules and unfortunately, an official tries to caution/sanction you guys, you argue with them (and you are the one at fault most times).
When you frustrate them, and they now shoot you, you will be throwing your weight around and publishing one side story.
5. You use browsing cheats openly.....it's illegal peeps.
6. You pirate anything pirateable. And no one catches you.
7. You do your job (civil service especially) without dedication, and no one questions you.
8. Government opens a well-equipped hospital today and next month, the equipments have been stolen one after the other by medical staff (nigerians). 6 months later, the hospital looks like a grave yard due to the mismanagement and poor maintainance culture (-of other people's properties) of nigerians. Yet, no one (the M.D. - A nigerian) cares to investigate the issue.

9. You drive recklessly on roads......and no regard for any rule.
10. Mehn it's a free world in naija and you claim you don't enjoy anything. Oh puhlease! Spare me.

That's why they end up in prison when they travel out of the country. Nigerians don't even know right from wrong again; that the reason why whenever a governor tries to bring back the rule of law, they criticise them. They are so comfortable with their primitive ways. I shake my head.
I agree with you totally. Developed countries got to where they are today through HARDWORK and DISCIPLINE. Without these two ingredients embedded the heart of majority of Nigerians, if they like, let them split this country, or eyen add Benin to Nigeria, there will be no DEVELOPMENT.
