Once again, mods don't take threads to frontpage. They only recommend. Its the duty of the super-mods to take threads to frontpage (unless the rules have been changed lately).

bobthebuilder99: Igbo mods posting tribal threads to the front page to give their brothers an excuse to attack other tribes. It happened to the Hausa when Boko Haram was heating up, with shameful threads hitting the front page, now it is directed at Yoruba.

2. Joe Igbowke wrote a sane and calm appeal to Igbos to be calm and to think rationally about the deportations. Many posters created threads about it. NOT A SINGLE MODERATOR PUT THIS ON THE FRONT PAGE. Yet the next day they post MASSOB calling Yoruba "Alama and red oil".

3. Afam takes up 90% of the 1st page, then promotes it to the front page, so that his viewpoint is heard over the other forumites...

All these accusations, counter-accusations and name calling is not necessary. If you all calm down, you will realize that many things are not the way you presume them to be.

For a start, Mods don't take threads to frontpage, so accusing Afam of doing so is wrong. The supermods and Admin is in charge of threads going to frontpage; the mods just recommend. So if you feel they are being biased in that regards, then take it up with semid4lyfe and mukina2 (supermods) and seun the admin.

The fact that there's variety in selection of mods is an added advantage. If you feel the action of a mod towards you is unfair, then you can come to the complaint thread and seek the attention of the co-mod that you feel will redress the issue. Its as simple as that.

I hope this call for truce really works out; it was more fun when we directed our anger on our leaders at aso rock and the political parties that has no framework for the development of this country. But turning every discussion to a tribal warfare is so not funny anymore.

Good job Mods. Its not easy moderating full grown adults; asking and pleading with them to do the right thing. Its not easy keeping quite and watching forumites insult you with impunity and yet you can't reply, least you be seen as biased and uncouth.

naptu2: I've been a guest on nairaland since c2005 and I can tell you that people, especially the unruly ones, create multiple accounts after they've been banned. I am quite sure that there will be people that are involved in this current war who will create multiple accounts when they get banned and this is one of the reasons why they flagrantly flout the rules.

Preventing new nairalanders from starting threads is one measure that will help to reduce this problem.

You got it all right! New monikers should have to spend a particular duration here before being able to start a thread; if possible, the new moniker should spend some quality time in a particular section before having that priviledge.

Also, monikers that has been docile for a period of time should be deactivated temporarily. When the owner wants to use it, he can reactivate it by just a click, and then spend some specified time before being allowed to start a thread. Some users have many handles waiting to be deployed in cases like this. So, if its not used for some months, deactivate it temporarily.

Also, ban measures should be more strict. A moniker released from ban should be made to wait a specified time before allowed to start threads. We see new monikers starting threads like 'Mod-XYZ is a slut' just because it was registered newly or just released from a ban.

Again, my next recommendation is that the Admin should find a way to dis-allow new members or new monikers from creating new threads. It is obvious that some old members create new handles just to fight tribal wars at this section; keeping their old handles clean and spotless; then later end up winning Mr Nairaland, nairaland politics best poster etc. If possible, let new members be given the guest feature of not even being able to post a comment till a month, and not being able to create new threads till after 3 months; after which they can now be able to create threads.

I have so many examples of new handles created within the past 48 hours that are dangerously endangering this section via bigotry and tribal bashing.

Words loose their actual meaning when viewed through the stethoscope of tribalism. As long as I'm concerned, there can be no meaningful discussion in any thread here as long as we resort to tribalism and bigotry.
