There is camera.
I abide by this rule as well but the light didn't change till I was almost crossing.

I just read online now that there is a one second delay before the camera flashes. If that is true, then I should be fine because my front wheels crossed the line on amber but not sure of the back.

You should be fine if that's the case....meaning you crossed on Amber colour

Do humans review the camera or it is automated from capture to penalty. Something tells me if someone reviews it I will be forgiven.

It depends if there's red light camera at the junction.

Wait for 2 weeks to see if you will get letter....palpitations period for any brown envelopes.

You may likely escape this scenario. Reflect on it and don't break the red light signs.

The rule for me is from far distance, check the traffic lights and if green has been for a long time before l reach the junction, I reduce speed as l am approaching, knowing that it will soon change to Amber to red.

So I got a response from the police and was given one of three options
1) Attend a Speed awareness course
2) Fixed penalty charge
3) Going to magistrate court
Abeg which option is the best o. From my little research, looks like option 1 is the best as there will be no points deduction. But I thought I should still sample the opinion of the elders in the house. Thanks

Option 1

Maintain speed limits all the time, otherwise, no more speed awareness course for you.

Its either points or fine or court or combinations

The three phases of Japa/Moving abroad.

I have lived abroad for a number of years now and I have come to understand that there are typically three phases that defines the Japa experience.

1. The lag phase (0 - 2 years)

The newbie phase is where most people question their why for moving abroad. The initial struggle to secure a job. The apprehension of not getting a good job particularly if you sold off your properties to move abroad, are the befuddling realities of this phase. In this phase, many ask questions and make videos or write stories that suggest abroad is tough and unwinnable. Those on student visas grappling with the hustle of 20 hours shift seldom push this narrative, while they grind on minimal wage with hopes of securing a work visa in the mid-term. Those that left Nigeria on Residence class visas in this phase are equally culpable, as they allow the saddle of not securing a professional job trigger an imposter syndrome that taints their perception and vocalization on japa.

My experience has taught me that this phase is transient. Many that make videos painting japa in gloomy terms are typically juggling this phase. For some the lag phase may stretch for longer depending on the country, available opportunities, their visa class and the wealth and quality of information at their disposal. For others this phase typically last for less than a year. Realities differ. It is imperative that whatever sound bite about japa you get, ensure it is coming from someone who has exited this phase.

2. The steady phase (3 - 6 years)

This is the phase where people land their first professional job. Move up in visa class. Earn more than the minimum wage and have liquidated most of their personal debts. They can afford the little luxury of regular travel to a few nearby countries. They have more savings. Live in better houses and can afford to upgrade their cars. Those with Residence class visas are more settled in this phase. They have secured their first professional job or even changed jobs that earns then their first six-figure salary in a Fortune 100 or 500 company. Abroadians or Japarians at this phase have a re-purposed definition of abroad. They are more oriented to think big picture. Less inclined to make videos that cast a gloomy portraiture of the state of nature overseas. Those that sold their properties to move abroad are now slowly recouping their 'investments'. This phase is essentially the stability phase and defines the next phase of the abroad experience.

There is however no clear timeline for how long people stay in this phase or step into it. Getting a good job is usually the first sign. It is profitable to listen to people at this phase but ensure they are the ones that have shown working and have walked the talk. That is individuals that have successfully hacked how to win professionally in the abroad and are willing to share from the repository of their experience and wisdom. Most people that move abroad, secure a job and stay without a criminal record, would eventually and inevitably get to this phase. Some land here and stay in perpetuity. It all depends on individual choice.

3. The acceleration phase (7 years and above)

This is the cruise control phase of staying in the abroad. Those in these phase understand that abroad is broad. It is the phase of earning well in six figures. Professionals at this stage are now Directors, Senior Executives or Partners in top firms. A few have started their own companies and are now employers of labour. They have secured their citizenship at this stage and can flex travel with ease. Many that sold their properties in the lag phase have now bought better properties in choice places in Nigeria and elsewhere. Owning a property abroad in this phase is easy flex. Infact many have few properties on rentals. Professionals here have a different story of what abroad is. They are not fazed by IG or FB stories of some abroad newbies. They have come, seen and conquered.

There is however no timeline for this phase and reality may differ depending on individual experience and destiny.

The kernel of this post is that often the portraiture of japa as an experimental reality is skewed. Abroad or Japa is mostly what you make out of it. Arming yourself with the right information and people is often the most important and basic step. Having the doggedness to navigate the lag phase to the acceleration phase would mostly depend on you.

In the end, abroad is broad and Japa is part travel and part determination.

Hi everyone,

So quick one. Landlord issued a notice two months ago for a friend to leave their property at the end of the six months initial tenancy. No reasons given.

The letter issued bore a date 7 days after the normal rent payment. Say rent is due on the 10th, the letter said they have to leave on the 16th.

So, their new place will be ready on the 17th and they called the letting agency to inform them of what they can do about staying a day more. The agency then stated that they'll have to pay for the 7 days extra. Okay, my friend said they'd just leave on the previous date as the letter stated. But the agency still said they'd normally have to pay for the six days extra which was mentioned on the letter as their last date.

NB: the letter never mentioned that they would expect any form of payment for those six days.

My friend assumed that was just a free window for them to move out. Meanwhile, they found other properties that would have allowed them to move in earlier but they decided to wait cos they assumed they had to see their current tenancy through and probably wouldn't get a refund if they left earlier.

Very weird situation and they're sad about it.

Na all these kind things de make oga Lexusgs430 de talk to have your own house mortgage

No, your SIPP can be a standalone portfolio. See it like your S&S ISA but with a benefit of a tax rebate at your marginal tax rate as highlighted by jedisco and lexusgs430. It has no flexibility like your s&s Isa though, as the standard pension rules wrt withdrawal applies, and the income you'll draw from it outside the 25% lump sum will also be subject to tax at whatever rate you pay your income tax.

Thank you.

The benefits from NHS pension is more than the SIPP in long-term. Prefers additional contributions to the NHS pension

You don't have to move your pension contribution over, to a SIPP.......

A SIPP can stand alone, whilst you decide the destiny of your investment...... Claiming 25% from HMRC, on each contribution.....😜

You pay £9.99 each month, even if you put only £100 per month, you are still quids up .....😁

thank you.

Thinking of doing additional contributions into the NHS pension instead of opening SIPP

then open another S&S ISA for my wife

happy with the dividends l am getting from my S&S ISA NYSE stocks using my freetrade and trading 212 accounts

A SIPP is also a good investment vehicle. Yes, you'd have to wait but it's highly tax efficient. You get 20% tax relief initially. And if you're a higher or additional rate payer, you can claim an extra 20 or 25% respectively.
For a higher rate payer, youre effectively putting Β£12 to get Β£20 which is then invested.

For S&S ISA, what are you invested in - stocks, bonds, funds or a mix?

l do NYSE stocks with S&S ISA

I am already on NHS pensions.....won't SIPP want me to take my NHS pension contributions to SIPP?

l am currently happy with the NHS pension contribution

The total ISA allowance is 20k. It's cumulative of all forms of ISA held.
Hence if 4k is put in a LISA, you can only put 16k in a S&S ISA

I am putting the amount l stated in both for the past 3 years...

l will ring HMRC for adjustments next week.....

thanks

Still into Tbills and property in Nigeria?

Just to highlight: The 4K LISA benchmark is part of the 20K ISA allowance every tax year. So, once you've saved 4k in LISA, you'll only be allowed 16K more across other ISA products.
