People no dey hear word, the pressure and quest to appear rich is putting people in unnecessary debts in the abroad.. A friend landed Canada some months ago and he was trying to convince me on why buying a car on financing is good. I asked him one simple question, if you were in Nigeria, would u be able to afford this car? He said No, I asked so why do u think u need it now. This was 2 months after he landed in Canada ooo.

Two key words are my mantra:
Delayed gratification
Budgeting

l de tell you....l asked the guy if he has maxed out his £20k ISA account for NYSE stocks as April is fast approaching and he said he has not opened the ISA account l told him to open since January 2022 and cannot save anything because of the car financing taking out £600 per month for the next 4 years. He has learnt his lessons (101)....

Although I am based in Canada, what u have written here applies across board. From the short time I have spent in mapleland, I have come to realise that the major mistake most new immigrants make is financing a car. So many older immigrants have made that same mistake and they keep telling the newer immigrants not to make that same mistake but these pleas often falls on deaf ears. The adrenaline to drive a brand new car pushes a lot of immigrant into untold hardship.

To further buttress my point, in Canada as of today the average salary is $75k per annum which equates to 4K per month after taxes. The average 2021-2023 car costs approximately $800 per month coupled with insurance cost of $400 per month and fuelling costs of $300 per month. Before the twinkle of an eye, you are set back $1,500 per month because u want to drive a brand new car and show off to people that don’t care about what u drive.

I am preacher of the buy a older car cash down ($5k) and move on with ur life. 3 years down the line after u have gathered valuable investments (real estate, stocks, a biz) u can then buy the car of your choice.. This is the approach I have chosen, to each mallam his kettle😂

over sense de worry u grin grin

- How secure is your Job
- How comfortable are to subscribing to vehicle ownership
- Do you want to outrightly own the vehicle, after full payment is made
- Do you want to keep driving a new car, every 3 years (subject to deal )
- Do you fully understand both concepts of car ownership
- Have you weighed the consequences of a default
- Would you rather buy an older vehicle, for under £2000 (and pay cash)
- Once the nostalgia wears off, would you still be happy with your decision

Many more questions, but it's past my bedtime.......

At the end of the day, nobody can advice which option is BEST ...... Arm yourself with the conditions and make an informed decision............😁😂🤣

It’s too late he has already opened his mouth. If he doesn’t go he will be found guilty of contempt of court ( legal gurus please feel free to correct me). If he goes he could be putting his life and family in danger. So he is stuck between the devil and the deep blue sea. If you want to look on the what is the right thing to do. If people don’t come forward how can crimes be solved? If you or your family were involved, you would hope that an eye witness would come forward, in order for justice to be served

May God protect him and his family and may justice be served....

Hello my people,

I need a serious advice please , I made a mistake and I need help in regards with the issue.

There was a fight in one of the 5 flats opposite mine. It resulted into police action which they came knocking at our door. I was about leaving home for work in the morning and I was asked what I can say in regards to the seen. I informed them I saw an hammer with someone I can't really describe except that the person is bald.

Now the issue is that I got a letter to come forward to the court as a withness to the crime committed by my neighbor. My mind has not been at rest since I got the letter cos of the likely public display of me as a withness.

I am thinking of going to the police station that I'm not comfortable doing this as i felt that I might not be safe living in that area anymore.
Kindly advise on this move.

And anyone with experience in such aspect should please advice.

Next time close mouth and move on....

I think going to the police station is fine to let them know your not comfortable and let's see what they will do.

Just making our bucket list for 2023 wink
I am planning of going home with my family at some point in this year, I am from the rural part of South Western Nigeria.

My son is 2 years old and has never been to Nigeria. His Dad is white Scottish .

Please what are the safety precautions for food and water safety? Do I need to go with bottled water from here or just boil water at home for them? What are the dos and don't? Do you think it is wise to go now that he is 2 years old or I should wait a bit longer? What are the necessary immunisations to take? Please kindly help a confused mum. Thank you xx

Normal 'pure water' or bottled water for naija should be ok nah.

Routine immunizations upto date should be ok..

Get anti-malaria medication

I do hope this is not 'village people calling'

Wait a little let the insecurity level and the election tension reduce a beg

But you have the final decision to make......

Can someone above 40 years open a Cash LISA account? If no, what then is the alternative to to go for?

Cash LISA is for less than 40years only.

Can you please advise any other cash saving option with interest on par with inflation apart from LISA? Mostly for people who plan to leave UK after naturalization and do not want to buy a house and be mortgage tied.

Unfortunately l don't know this one. Big ogas like Lexusgs430, Sumotaya, Justwise, Ticha etc may provide answers soon.....

For CASH LISA account holders, do not forget to get the £4,000 into it to get the free 25% ((£1,000) by end of tax year in 5th April 2023. This could be used to deposit for your first mortgage house. Husband and wife less than 40 years could open this account and save upto £10,000 each tax year until both reach 50 years when you cannot save money in the LISA account.

For STOCK & SHARES ISA account holders, do not forget to max out the £20,000 allowance per tax year, 5th April, 2023. When you max out the £20k in stocks and shares ISA account, you can keep putting more funds in your General Investment Account.

There are so many stocks that are quite cheap in NYSE...you can cherry pick good dividend paying stocks with dividend yields upto 6-8%.

Remember that profits from stocks and share lSA account and dividend payments from your stocks and shares ISA account are not TAXABLE....tax man doesn't look into these earnings

Slow and steady win in the market....

HAPPY 2023.....
