gamaliel9: I registered with Chaka with full name as in my bank account...know your customer kyc...including your bvn... When you deposit in naira, cash or online...it will hit your account in naira. Then if you want to buy US or other countries stock, they have an exchange option on the site. Just click on it and wait for some minutes...it will become dollar .....then you can buy stocks with it. When you want to withdraw, you hit the exchange option again...your dollar goes to naira...then you withdraw to your bank...savvy? But it takes Trove App more than 5 hours to convert my naira funds to dollars. ...still pending. Oga Oakperl, do you experience this slow exchange of naira wallet to dollars wallet? |

YerYer: Oh those are the stocks I own. I think it depends on your risk tolerance and time horizon. Meaning how much risk can you tolerate. If you think you will panic or get depressed by a 10% sell off, then you might want to invest in large cap value stocks like Costco, Home depot, Goldman Sachs. If you want growth and have the patience to weather volatility, then invest in tech stocks like Tesla, Virgin Galactic, Beyond Meat, Microsoft etc. Thanks so much..... Any link to share on US stocks dividend payments history like dates of payment, amount paid etc Thanks |

OakPearl: I guess you were trying to fund your account that's why you were asked for your debit card details being a Nigerian resident. This comes with additional charges.
I advise you rather do a direct transfer from your bank mobile app using the USD option. This way you avoid charges and get your funds converted to USD automatically. Always screen grab your transaction ID for quick processing though. Thanks boss. Just that it was one of the spaces to fill...after BVN and Documents. ....next is Bank debit card details. .. .....so i will not fill the debit card details? Since it is not compulsory. .... How many days will Trove take to verify my documents before I will fund and start trading US stocks? Thanks |

OakPearl: Your scepticism is in order. No one wants to be a victim of loss.
However, if I may throw more light, the companies behind these apps are like agents commissioned by US licensed brokers to serve as reliable source of broadening market participation to parts of the world where the typical American broker has no presence and can't do due diligence on potential customers.
So even if Trove goes under, your stocks remain in your name in the books of the registrars of the companies you have and that of the stock broking house Trove works with.
It's similar to what happens in the Nigerian Stock Exchange. If a stock broker goes out of business, your stocks remain in tact with the CSCS depository. All you need do is change broker and get CSCS to do your transfer to a new broker. Thank you Sir for your response. Please I still need more clarification Sir. So what is the USA version of our own CSCS? Did trove or their USA stock broker open an equivalent CSCS account for Trove App investors? Do you have an equivalent CSCS account statement like we have in Nigeria from the shares you have bought? Thank you. |

gamaliel9: Yes,they take fees fro trades. Local trades is 0.5% whether selling or buying. For global trades,it is 1%,buying or selling, either way the same.
I only use them for US stocks. Locally i use ARM Securities and Meritrade. They have calculator too on their platform. Calculate to authenticate Who regulate the activities of Trove Finance and other fintec applications please? Just been curious? |

OakPearl: My brother, they are the only app I use. They recently updated the app that now allows you to put a buy limit price so you don't over pay beyond what you would have wished to.
I communicate with them via phone and whatsapp as well.
I asked how I can get my dividends if I invest in dividend paying stocks and they assured that any stock you have that pays dividend, your dividend comes straight to your trading account from the registars. That one sweet my bele though. But how safe is the App? Any possibility of getting your money back if Trove App goes under? Which regulatory body is regulating Trove Finance App? Just skeptical and want to know more before testing the waters Thanks |

gamaliel9: Can Nigerians buy US STOCKS from Nigeria?Possibly yes... I heard about Chaka and decided to check on them....registration was difficult....i could not input my password.. Then somebody mentioned Trove...but you have to register with your international passport....i also saw an advert of Bamboo Investment App...all these are fintechs that try to bring global stocks to Nigerian residents...From my research,THEY WORK WITH STOCK BROKERS IN THE US AND YOU CAN BUY ANY STOCK YOU WANT, NOT SELECTED STOCKS.
Again, my interest in US stocks is that the market is very developed and efficient... can you believe that there are stocks that pay MONTHLY DIVIDENDS? Even QUARTERLY DIVIDEND....those stocks are sure salaries....they pay up to 90%,80% of the profits because they are exempted from paying certain type of taxes,so they must pay the dividend...This is done mostly by companies in property management and REITs,utility[electricity companies],pipeline companies etc...
Is this not better than what we have here? What are the demerits of investing in US stocks from Nigeria? Are there problems with that? What do you think? Please is Trove App good? Which stocks are the high dividend paying stocks in US? |

Barrytone: Am trying hard to refrain from saying "it's a lie". My success story comes from my early exposure to the streets. The reverse I'd rather the case. Rich kids rarely succeeds, 90% of the Benjamin's are from poor background. Awolowo grandson was busy looking for few millions months back. The abiolas, iwuanyanwu and their likes, first generation will still meet up the stored wealth of it was enormous like the abachas that still keep coming, certainly by second generation it's squandered because they failed to learn the art of making money simply because they were already in the comfort zone. The poor in the other hand strives to break even at all cost including his life. As I speak, I owe my kids only their education and it's the reason am not into landed property, don't want to give them that feeling that everything is on place for them to flex rather than hustling through strife to break even. If my parents were rich, I would have died by now or been useless. My motivation was the poverty staring at me every day, I knew I can't live that life for long. Well done Sir. Am motivated by this write up. |
