Just a bit curious. Do you think this bond at 13.2% beats TBills at 13.2%.

What are the stability in bonds, any risk of capital loss?

Thanks
Sir,
I purchased the bond @13.2% offer price., but the coupon payments rate still remains 16.2499% which is fixed till maturity.

Since am holding the bond till maturity which is 18th April 2034, there will be no loss....so it will be better than NTB.

As for now, NTB will become better than this 16.2499 % FGN APR 2034 BOND if the NTB interest is above 16%.....remember NTB has lots of fluctuations in the interest rate. But once a bond is purchased at a fixed interest rate, the FGN will continueto pay for the coupon rate till maturity. ....that is why it's called BOND.

I may make a loss if I decide to sell it at a higher rate than I purchased it....like 13.5%. But if I sell it at a lower rate like 10%, I will still make gain.

Infact the bond market calculation may be confusing at times.....So I usually hold till maturity

So my best bet not to make a loss is to hold till maturity.....which the 16.2499% will remain my coupon payments till maturity.

I can't do this cos a juicy capital investment can come up at any time....

After all FG securities are a means to an end, not the end in itself.
But the 16.2499% coupon payments every six months for 17 years is good for me.

I still have other investment plans in other securities , stock exchange , real estate etc.........ALL TO AVERAGE UP AND BEAT INFLATION RATES

The price you pay for Bond in the secondary market is kind of trickery. There is what is called CLEAN PRICE and a DIRTY PRICE.

For example if you want to buy a bond worth 10M; if a coupon for the bond is going for 16.5% and the price is quoted at 13%, you will definitely pay well over 10M to secure that bond. Since i dont want to do any calculation now, lets assume you pay 12M for that bond, your coupons will be based on the 10M and not the 12M. The price you pay has other factors that determines it like the number of coupons remaining which gives you the yield to maturity. If you dont want to mess with your head, its not a territory to do your calculations in.

The simple rule you cam apply to the example above is to see the 13% as your interest. If you want to put the bi-annual 16.5% in your mind as the interest you are getting, no problems, but also have it in mind that you paid extra 2M on top of that principal whose coupons u are getting. By the time you net off the extra amount you paid from the total coupons, you arrive at the 13%.

the lower the quoted interest, the more money you pay and vise versa. if the quoted price was 17.5%, you would pay below 10M to secure the bond. Still, the coupon will be on the 10M.

Only at the primary market you can buy at par.
Sir,
Most DMO NIGERIA auction results for the past 5years are not at par
So it's almost the same thing as buying from secondary market

What happens if Nigeria cease to exist?
Na so my friend asked me when I did 5 year FGN BONDS in 2015 to mature Feb 2020.

We know February 2020 is around the corner and FGN still exists .....and I have been re-investing the 6 monthly coupons (Feb and Aug ) into NTB and the cycle continues.......SLOW AND STEADY INVESTMENTS WIN THE RACE

Most times fear is our enemy in investment

Meanwhile. ....if FGN will fail to exist, I will quickly sell my FGN BONDS before the official exist as the FGN Bonds in the secondary market are tradable in the floor of nse.

I invested in 16.2499% FGN BOND APR 2037 at 13.2%......secondary market

I think it's better for now.....stability of 16.2499% coupon payments every 6 months till 2037. ...shikena

I did mine with stanbic today...coupon payments will be every April and October till 2037...

Ask your bank for advice on most FGN BONDS....

Waoooooo

2 days absent and I read almost 7 pages

My observations
1. Mr Healthserve is a scammer. ....NTB members avoid him

2. Oga Ahinbingas ......is very innocent. ...not knowing Healthserve is a scammer

3. Oga Emmanuelwumi. .....still remains an elder in this forum by identifying the scammer

4. All genuine NTB members should be patience for this current NTB issue to be settled. ...otherwise ask your bank for long dated FGN Bonds with good interest rate and log in and seeing your 6 monthly coupon payments

5. Slow and steady investments will always win the race.

As for those scammers typing and responding with speed of light. .....i will not respond to you so don't waste your scamming energy quouting me.

May God save us all from numerous scammers in this forum. Amen.

Not only Stanbic infact theirs is even better.
Last week I was in FBN and Stanbic for TB enquiry after the new CBN policy. I was told nothing is available in the secondary market. Today, I visited other branches of the 2 banks different from the one I went. I asked about TB Secondary Market again and they said it wasn't available. Then I asked about Primary Market because according to the calender they should be an auction tomorrow.

In Stanbic the lady told me CBN has stopped everything TB but I disagreed. I told her what was stopped is CBN OMO and not TB then she asked me to wait and she printed the form for me to fill. However, I discovered that tanbic has added the charges/fees for TB on on the form as seen below;

Transaction Fee: 300+VAT
Commission: N100+ VAT
Safekeep(custody) Fee:0.05% *FACE VALUE*(TENOR/365)+ VAT

Though we have been paying all these charges all the while it was this afternoon I discovered that it's only one of them that was specified on the previous form.

I also saw that you can choose the custodian of your choice if you decide not to go with theirs (Stanbic IBTC Nominees LTD). Before there was no option as such.

Then I noticed the addition of a new form that will require a witness to sign for you before your request can be treated. The lady told me the form was introduced last week and it's compulsory to fill for TB investment so when going to Stanbic for TB investment you will have to go there with someone, consider begging someone in the banking hall to help you or you will carry the form to your witness to fill before returning it which was what I did eventually.

In Firstbank, FBN kubwa to be precise, the lady I asked said the rates are not available for both primary and secondary market. I told her I wanted to do primary and that rates for it are not usually available till after auction. She said they have not sent the advice to their branch and as such she would not give me the form to fill because if she does I will come and disturb her later. I jejely transferred my chicken change to Stanbic instantly. I have been using FBN for my small small TB monthly savings but as it is now I intend to research investment houses to see which one I can flow with. When I am finally convinced about the flexibility of anyone now, I will gradually move my coins there. Hopefully in no distant time I will be eligible to bid for commercial papers myself then I will benefit more from any investment house I choose.
Thanks Sir.

For stanbic. ...I have email indemnity with them ....I will ask them to send the new form to my email so that I will fill it wheneveram investing.

Also, the new DMO office circular of today. ...I will send it to them to know if there are away of it.

I know the treasury bills secondary market will be open again soonest with this new circular from DMO-Nigeria

If you still wish to enjoy secondary market, you can do that by switching to investment houses instead of banks. Like someone explained here earlier, it's CBN's OMO that was stopped and not TB.

This new CBN policy dey sweet banks for body for now. They just dey do shakara because even before now na fixed deposit they want make you do but their brains go reset once better money begin leave dey head to Investment houses.
Please have you bought secondary market from any investment house recently after the new CBN directive?

You can tell me some investment house in can invest in NTB secondary market. .
Thank you Sir.

This is a lie. I did reinvestment of interest in stanbic by February this year (primary @14.9%). I have my cert with me I didn’t collect any interest that month. That was how I knew how to calculate it. They invested till about few hundred naira left. And discounted the few hundred naira from my invested capital. 3M to collect 3.525M by February 2020.
Same with me.....just ask for discount value. ...not face value
