I have a GA as residence hall coordinator and my start date is July 5th. However my program starts ending August/Beginning September. Since the start date will likely bear the program start date, I am wondering if the consulate will review my GA offer letter and schedule an earlier date for my interview. I'm really open to suggestions of what is likely going to happen and what I need to do from my own end.

I am a quiet follower of this platform. Please, I would appreciate it if someone could assist me with my questions regarding the SEVIS fee. I paid for the SEVIS fee last year in June, and it says in their portal that the fee is still valid within 12 months of payment. This June would make it exactly 12 months that I have paid. My questions are: Is it possible I make use of the I-20 again this year even if my interview date is August? Second: Can I use the I-20 for another course in the same school? Third: Can I use the I-20 for another school?

You have to request for a new i-20 from your school and you can't use the same i-20 for different schools. You have to request for i-20 from each school.

Please did you fill the new form before you got a date-for or you filled after you got a date.it was after l booked the date, that I got a mail about updating the form. The concern I have now is that the code on the ds160 form is we used to book the date, so if I fill new form will it affect the appointment.

After getting a new app number, you will go to your visa page and update it.

I read that you can't reschedule for an earlier date, it would be a date in the future of your initial date. I didn't get confirmation for this info anywhere.

1. You can't schedule a date without paying visa fee.
2. Each applicant going for interview will pay visa fee
3. You can pick a date and reschedule twice
4. You can fill your DS 160 now or before 72hrs to interview date.
5. You pay visa fee together (like same time different slips) and schedule appointment together. When you are ready to apply for a date, you will see instructions to add if you are traveling alone or not.

The NY or TX Consular Centres handles it depending on where you are in the US. I am not sure of DC.
Go to Nigeria Immigration website. Pick US location. Fill the form amd submit. You get a code to use in making payments. After payments, you book appointment at the location you selected.
Go there with your print outs on the day of the appointment.

Thank you for this. I know about all these. What I actually want to confirm is that DC additional charges for each applicant because that's like the closest to me. I'll just call them today to confirm because I've not seen anything on it. Thanks once again

I need help with US Visa Interview Waiver program.

My wife submitted her passport for the Interview Waiver visa renewal at the Lagos embassy on 1st April 2022 but was returned without a visa, but was asked to come back in person to the embassy within one year period. Please see attached paper slip placed inside the returned passport which stated thus: "Come with your international passport. Ensure accurate bio-data and validity"

My question is does anyone have an idea why she's asked to return to the embassy for interview?

1. The appointment date was a week past the 24-month validity period due to the delay in getting a date
2. Never overstayed previous 2 visits, though had a baby during last visit 2 years ago

Going by the additional information you provided, it may be because of the birthing that took place during the last visit. So let her go will all necessary documents attached to her birthing and answer any questions asked correctly.

Yes you can choose a later date. I don't think a new appointment to another country can be made except you apply to that country from the scratch

My brother is currently a citizen and he moved from Nigeria many years ago. He wants to send me an invitation letter but recently discovered the age on my passport is different from the age he filled when making his own applications to/in the US (the part on siblings details).

Does this truly matter or do I have to change my own passport details?

I'm trying so hard to wrap my brain on why your brother will not know your DOB but it's fine. Changing DOB on the passport is a long thing so let him change the DOB on the Visa application. It's easier.

Yes, schools environment are safe. Average 2 bed should range from $1300-$1700 depending on amenities. If you are going to University of Maryland Med, you do not want to move further towards the downtown because rent is on the high side. As high as $2500/room. I'd advise you make use of the outside school housing options from the school. That way you can see fellow students to share with (if you can stay in a shared apartment with your family. Bus ticket is $1.90/trip and $4.40/day. You should be able to get a student fee of $55/month from your school. There are buses everywhere around your school.

You should look out for leasing office around your school, it's safer. Coppin State University has about 3 around it. It's a black neighborhood and not far from Penn station. You may want to look closer to the school environment better than further. It's dangerous. Morgan State has student housing around the school area. Also a black neighborhood. Loch Raven apartment is not far from the school if you are looking for affordable leasing office. You can also get some other ones. Towson University has a lot of leasing apartment very close to the school too. If your school is Downtown Baltimore (University of Maryland-Med school, University of Baltimore) you may want to consider housing options provided by your school because it's expensive compare to other part. There are some students that stays around Hollins (close to university of Maryland hospital) so you can consider that has well. For Johns Hopkins University, they have students housing close to the school, Rotunda and the likes. All schools in Baltimore city have easy access to buses and train so transportation shouldn't be a problem.
You may want to consider sharing apartment (in fact you should) because rent ranges between $1300-$1500 including/excluding utility. If you want to move in with your family (dependants) then you can look at the county areas that have easy access to buses and trains. Houses on Windsor Mill road, Windsor Forest Apartment Gwynn Oak etc.

If you totally want to leave far from the city then consider Owings Mills. Lots of Nigerians, lots of stores, far from all the schools in Baltimore but there are buses and a direct train to the city.

A friend of mine got below message from the US embassy asking him to pay 130 South African rand after a year of keeping his passport. Does it mean he got the visa?


(There will be a payment that has to be made in order for the consulate to release this passport. The fee will be R130. Once confirmation received as to which DHL branch we should transfer, you will receive a link whereby payment can be made.
