Ask yourself , if you were a petrol marketer , what would you do ?

Would you sell petrol at a by far lower price than you bought it ?

So what about the earning power, do we earn as much as other countries.

I think we pay more for fuel than other OPEC countries
Earning power has nothing to do with how much we should be paying as the marketers have to stay in business

Britain didn't "kill" anything, the oil boom did. Look up Dutch Disease: the influx of huge sums of petrodollars after 1970 made domestic agriculture uncompetitive with imports, which destroyed the commercial basis for groundnut farming in the north (as well as the textile industries in the region). Unfortunately, Nigerians were too busy scrambling for their share of the windfall profits from oil to know or care about how the domestic economy was being hollowed out by the "strong" Naira people love so much - until the oil boom ended and reality slapped them hard in the face.
Wow , this was really insightful.

Meanwhile sensible countries like Netherlands just used the oil boom to their advantage to create a sovereign wealth Fund

Thanks for the compliment! There are large numbers of intelligent, highly-educated Nigerians who would do a much better job than any of the buffoons and kleptomaniacs who have been at the top, but between Nigeria's money-driven political campaigns and the extremely tribalistic and religiously sectarian attitudes of ordinary Nigerians themselves, such candidates simply don't stand a chance. Jut look at the reception given on Nairaland to all the 2019 candidates who aren't Buhari or Atiku.

Nigeria has no effective campaign-finance laws to limit the expenditures of individuals, nor are the parties required to be transparent about either their sources or the scale of their spending, which gives a major advantage to corrupt "godfathers" with easy access to nearly-limitless funds, while reducing the influence of grassroots party members to zero - indeed, most such "members" are little more than hungry acolytes looking to be favored with jobs or contracts they aren't qualified for. On the other hand, few Nigerians give a damn about political manifestos or ideologies, to the extent they even understand such concepts, and all that matters to them is whether a candidate is "our kinsman", "our daughter", "from our sect", etc., consequently they will never give their support to candidates who don't meet such ethnoreligious criteria, no matter how qualified they may be. How then are better leaders supposed to rise to the top, in a country with 250+ ethnic groups which is nearly evenly divided between Christianity and Islam?
Infact the matter sef Don Taya me.

All the Nigerians have talked with say that they can't vote for anybody from small unpopular parties.

So credible people like oby ezekwelisi will never be given a chance. angry And another bad thing is that Nigerians don't vote for people that dont share money and small rice to them.

Give your honest opinion , can this country ever become developed like Japan and Singapore , or at least Poland ?
PoliticsRe: FG Allocates 4.3bn For Revival Of Ajaokuta Steel Company by urahara(m): 12:48pm On Dec 13, 2018

No. It would be better if our private companies bought steel on the international market from the cheapest producers, while we used the little money we have to fix more important things, like our electrical grid and our transport infrastructure. Would you think it better to raise your own cattle and grow your own vegetables, instead of getting a good job that would allow you to buy those things? It's exactly the same reasoning at work here.
Why can't people as intelligent as you rule us ? smiley

This is 100% correct: the only reason for the continued existence of the fiction called "Nigeria" has always been the dependence of the less productive, less educated northern part of the country on subsidies from the south. Nothing else has ever held this sham of a nation together.

That's why classifying people by the color of their skin doesn't make sense. Race is largely a social construct .

so China, The US, France, the UK and Belgium that make a ton of money are fools, or that they sell at a loss, Nigerian youths = stupidity. Dumb people that import even tooth picks.
This countries you are talking about are not on the same level with Nigeria. Do you know how much they spend on military research ? Do you know the level of expertise they possess ? Do you know how they are able to find such research ? You think making weapons is like making buns and puff puff.

In the financial aspect , france alone has a gdp surpassing that of Africa combined !!!

California has a gdp higher than that of west Africa .

We can't spend on Military research the same way they do.

And meanwhile , this things take a lot of time and a high level of expertise.

Last year China made headlines for producing what ?

For being able to produce an ordinary ball point pen after 5 years , they had to pump millions of dollars in researching how to make a ball point pen ?

Ordinary ball point pen , not to talk of advanced military weaponry .

it doesn't make any business sense. I never knew Nigerians can be thus stupid. So those people that sell the weapons do so at a loss, oh boy see sense na.
Do you know the amount of money that goes into researching how to invent or at least reverse engineering those weapons ?

Buying is actually way way cheaper

The world is a mysterious place with so many vibrantand varying cultures.

However, in this day and age, when everything is controlled by technology, it is easy to contact anyone from anywhere in the world.

With over 7 billion people on this earth, there are still some tribes that do not support nor understand our modern living ways, and their secluded lives remain untouched.

Despite all of this, one human trait remains the same, and it is the need to explore and unravel the unknown.

So it only makes sense that humans sometimes do all they can to contact the most isolated tribes in the world, just to see how different they are from us.
Even after everybody knows that contacting that tribe will lead to their extinction due to diseases they are not immune to.

The Northern elites are just wicked. I will not fault Buhari's government for this but I'll blame these Northerners who will give birth to many children without proper care, they'll put them in Arabic schools without sending them foods and the Arabic teachers will send these children out to fend for food on their own.
Most of them are poor yet they keep marry small girls and keep producing children thy can never take proper care of.

Northerners are one of the biggest P we have in Nigeria if not the biggest.
And quite unfortunately the northern masses are not even bothered

Interestingly, it is possible to substantially improve the power situation in one year in this country. Indeed I spent the period of this fool's election and the inauguration trying to make this point to his people so they could pass on to him. The very process by which it would happen would make people like me solar entrepreneurs successful, it would create massive job openings for thousands and it is different from this model which has pipeline vandalisation and few centres of massive power generation as its Achilles heel. Nigerians and black people have a problem. We're not capable of managing modern life. We are suited for our pre-colonial savage existence. Nigeria happens to be one of the best examples of black backwardness - all spheres of human progress
I have been noticing the bolded and I have found it very true. This problem is not only blacks , even austarlian Aborigines and melanesians seem to have these problems

most times the idea of juju and similar belief is just a mental lazy way of explaining things, something I call the theory of everything.

now if for instance you know a guy who maybe made his money from an unknown source, instead of the government and other relevant authorities should be looking for his source of income, they will just jump into conclusion. now if he is giving type as in he likes giving cash gifts, they will say that is what he was told to do by his occultic group, that he wants to collect your destiny lol. if he is the stingy type, same explanation goes but this time if he gives out money he will be doom.

also African have this belief of sleep paralysis as act of witchcraft attack, they said magun I don't know if the spelling is correct is an act of spell casting but you will be surprise that it also happened to white who don't believe in such and it has a medical name for it vaginismus
I once had sleep paralysis , it was weird . I just decided to sleep off and close my eyes and sleep.

The next day , it was like nothing ever happened.

A friend of mine had sleep paralysis and he said it was demons.
