No.

The oil price in 1999 was $20 when OBJ assumed office.

Even at his departure in 2007, the max it achieved was $65 or so. Despite that, he left foeeign reserves at $60b and excess crude oil accounts at $20b. It was Jonathan's profligacy that was a problem

In Year 2,000, the oil price shot up to $35 but later collapsed to $20. Despite the fall, there was no scarcity of forex or a recession because the economy was in more capable hands (technocrats) and also those at the top were ready to listen to them. We were still even receiving Western Union in dollars!

Buhari's mismanaged the fall in the oil price. There are seasoned economists available who were ready to help him out bit decided to depend on head knowledge.

If you were asked an economic question in WAEC, would you use head knowledge to answer it? You know you'll fail

How much more when handling an economy, especially an economy facing a downturn.

One thing I have observed is that Economics is not as straightforward as laymen think .what you do and think is good in the short term can end up being disastrous long term.

Unfortunately for you, the elephant in the room isn't Atiku's corrupt past but the incumbent perceived incompetence.

Economic growth rate under his watch has been barely 1% yearly which isn't enough to create enough jobs for entering the labour force yearly.. The country needs to grow by 7% to achieve that.

From 1999 to 2013, the economy grew by 6.7% yearly despite high levels of corruption. Atiku said he appointed 7 PHD holders, that he preferred ploying people smarter than him.

Buhari's introduction of senseless econimic policies upon assumption of office was his Achilles heel. Even Lamido Sanusi was strident in condemning these policies and even advised his ministers to speak truth to power.

Buhari's has no one but himself to blames. People aren't ready for another 4 years of lamentable growth (Even the Abacha years were better). The man doesn't listen to anyone just as Amaechi said.

PMB blew his massive Goodwill away
Wasn't this just merely due to the relatively high oil prices of that period ?

That's not true cos you are underestimating the amount of huge investments in that sector. And mind you oil is not only the source of revenue Nigeria has but corruption and accountability is an issue as there are so many leakages in the system.

Agree because it is being stolen. Do you know that Nigeria itself does not know how much it's making from oil. That's how bad it is
Even if no money was being stolen , the money we make from oil is damn too small for a nation of our high population.

You have just contradicted yourself by admitting that corruption in Rwanda is not as it is in Nigeria so what exactly are you talking about. If Rwanada has oil money like Nigeria, do you know what it will mean for that remote country in your own words.

You guys are underestimating corruption in Nigeria. A country with so much oil money yet can't have a national air carrier like Rwanda. Let's continue to tell ourselves lies
Nigerians like you make me laugh, we don't have much oil money , looool, our oil money is just like peanuts

I understand your general point, but the Bahamas is a bad example. I never said you said you were from the Bahamas. I am from the Bahamas, though, and felt the need to correct the impression that it is somehow a country where the average person is not benefiting from the tourism sector.

I also agree with you that it is a very expensive country. But, although the minimum wage is only $5.50 an hour, very few people make that little and those that do are generally illegal immigrants (from Haiti, Jamaica etc.) the average wage is $14.00 an hour.

Because of its small population, tourism has done the Bahamas very well (it has the highest human development of any black country and - together with Barbados- is the only black country that is ranked by the UN as "very high human development). Bahamians can travel visa free o anywhere in Europe, North America, Japan, China etc. because of this, and inward immigration is massive.

Also, it is not only tourism but international shipping and financial services (banking) that dominate the economy.

I am not attacking your greater point, which has some validity. Am just pointing out that my country hardly fits the bill of your generalization.
I heard because of Bahamas small size , it's very easy for immigration officers to fish illegal migrants , how true is that ? grin grin grin

Doctors successfully removed the little girl's dead sibling in an hour-and-a-half-long surgery on Monday.
SWNS
A baby girl born with her own twin inside her stomach has had the dead sibling successfully removed.

The newborn was born with her 1-pound, 1-ounce sibling inside her after a medical condition called “fetus in fetu” developed during mom Pooja Kumar’s pregnancy.

Despite her swollen stomach at birth, the 6-pound, 9-ounce unnamed girl was discharged from the hospital and returned home to Bhakrodh Sherwan, north India, with her parents.

But after several weeks of colds, stomach ache and stiffness the baby girl was readmitted to Sir Sundarlal Hospital.

Doctors diagnosed fetus in fetu — an abnormality which happens only in one in every 500,000 births.

Surgeons successfully removed the underdeveloped embryo from the 1-month-old girl during an hour-and-a-half operation on Monday.

Images show the surgeon removing a large object with hands, feet, stomach, chest and spinal cord in early development.

The baby girl, who is due to be named next month, is said to be healthy after surgery.

Lagos have always been a shiiit hole

Went there as a Bini boy last year. In fact it was the day that tanker explosion happened
And i must tell you Lagos is overrated

When i entered Abuja same last year November because i wanted an instant passport because there was no booklet in Edo state that was when i knew the difference between Abuja and Lagos

It was even more obvious to me that Edo was actually bigger than Lagos. It took like forever to leave Edo land when you are going to Abuja. All those Edo north was like forever. So Lagos is just one small shiiit hole place that is overcrowded

Abuja is too good to be compared with that shiiit hole called lagos

Recent reports about pant thefts make me ask the question of whether we overestimate the power of juju.

It is reported that female pants are used for money ritual, but is it really true?

If only we do not overestimate the importance of African juju, then it is an African man that will be the richest in the world.

When I participated in an election in Kwara as a corps member, a guy brought out a nylon filled with juju and was threatening voters, but when the soldiers chased him, he ran.

I can go on and on but let me stop here.

What do you think?
No evidencce what so ever .

Very ridiculous to think that just because you haven't gotten married , then it's the handwork of your villagers.

Or just because u can't find work, it isn't because of the economic situation of the country, but the work of your villagers.

Nigerians will hail Edo state as the hq for juju but yet oba of Benin will never employ this juju to bring back our stolen artifacts from obodoyibo.

With so much jazz, why didn't the Edo people make the white men run mad when they came ?

Instead they were destroyed by the whites , their oba was even sent on exile , they kicked the Edo gods with their left leg , packed their artifacts and sent them abroad.

British people attacked the ijebu.

The ijebu performed human sacrifice to their gods and yet the British decimated the whole place with ordinary Gatling guns.

Guy , if I start to list all the reasons out , we go sleep here.

1. Nigeria is not even the most corrupt country in Africa. Heck it's not even among top 10 most corrupt countries. Check Transparency International Corruption perception index.

2. While there is no approved metric for measuring internet fraud, it is generally believed that countries like US, UK and Switzerland, Russia loses more to internet fraud than Nigeria.

MrAkata:
As the title suggest I am an Akata. I intend to relocate temporarily for various reasons. I basically would like to explore different opportunities and build a network in Nigeria. I have a background in IT and was considering enrolling in an University to further my studies and build a social network. I was wondering are Nigerian degrees recognized in America or would it be a waste of time ? I have a decent knowledge of IT and programming mostly self taught and certs. I am not too considered w/ school but rather the network it would provide.

I also have done some limited research and was torn between Lagos and Abuja. I am wondering which area would better suit my interest. I understand Abuja is more affluent but Lagos is a commercial hub with a lot going on. Im not timid or scared , I've lived in NY in rough parts so high density areas of black people do not intimidate me ( Im no tough guy ,either). What I am not interested in are any forms of "pan africanism" or any village experiences and wearing dashiki's ( no disrespect ) I just find those type of endeavors a waste of time and laughable. I've been to Ghana and did not enjoy it because of that reason . Too much emphasis on " cultural " shit , I respect African culture and can appreciate it , but it is yours . I do not seek to be something I am not. Too much tribalism and other political bullshit only confuses me and Im too old 4 that shit. My ONLY purpose in being in Nigeria is purely economical . I don't have time to waste on endeveours which will add no value to my life or the people i come in contact with.

I would greatly appreciate any feedback which I could take into consideration b4 making my move. I intend to travel there by March for 2 weeks just to touch the ground 1st b4 I make a decision. I tried searching YouTube but all of the Akata youtubers seem to be naive clowns to me so I take their opinions w/ "a grain of salt" as far as NIgeira.

I dont mean to come off disrespectful because I hold Nigerians in high esteem its just rather the narrative of the returning Akata which I hold in disdain. I don't want to be confused w/ some lost puppy looking to return and find his long lost culture and heritage. I have a culture and background o my own ( carribbean descent) so I can appreciate yours as I hold onto mines.

Judging from your right up you may not be mentally ready for Nigeria my "Akata" brother. If your whole mindset of coming to Nigeria it "economical' then you better come as other economically minded "Oyinbo" people come, with plenty of cash and an already established business or Idea as you seek to exploit the country. If not you are wasting your time.

Many a Nigerian who are returnees have attempted what you are seeking and a very little percentage find what they are looking for.

I would suggest you come and get a goo feel of the country as a tourist, learn the ins and outs and the two cities you are attempting to do "business', make contacts and go back and then re-evaluate.

As for your "Pan African" comment, understand that all black culture are inter-connected from the Caribbean to the Seychelle islands so rather than hightlight the differences, use the similarities to your advantage. You don't have to ear Dashiki's or pray to Olodumare to accomplish that.
Baba doesn't understand that no one gives a feckk about where he tries to understand Nigerian cultures or not. No one really gives a flying feckk
