A TRIP TO BEKWARRA. The Bekwarra locally baked delicacy. By Ushie S. A We have heard several stories of how people troop into this land called Bekwarra just to purchase their locally made delicacy (ikwan). Sometimes it keeps me wondering why someone stays in Abuja, Lagos and as far as northern part of Nigeria and will still send home travellers to buy this baked food for him or her. It is on this note that I had to undergo a very imperative research to get details of what this is all about. The importance of the local food called ikwan in Bekwarra cannot and can never be over stressed because of its enormous benefits ranging from health and financial elevation. Now, in Bekwarra local government of Cross River State. There are two types of this local food. One is called ikwan umo (water moi moi) and ikpachim. The ikwan umo has several compositions like cray fish, onions, pepper and it is majorly made from bambara nut (ashi) either fresh or socked in water. But this same ashi can be converted to Ikpachim when it becomes dry, you ground it into flour and use it for same purpose but it will not taste same. The ikpachim is stronger than the ikwan umo that is soft. While preparing this, it can either be tied using waterproof (waterproofu- it is Bekwarralized) or you use a fresh leaf to tie it. Beans can also be used. It will be soackin water then the chaff remove after that, you cook it and then spray it on a pefurated iron and then remove the fire and allow only the heat to dry it. It is historically significant to note that the Bekwarra people have long histories attached to this local food. No average man or woman in Bekwarra that doesn't taste this food. It has also helped in reducing the rate of malnutrition in Bekwarra because of body food like Fat and oil, cray fish, protein etc. This has reduced the rate of kwashiokor in the community because as early as possible in the morning, the local food is ready and families used it as breakfast to prepare them for what to prepare. It has also helped in financial elevation of our women because they used their profit for daily contribution and also age grade meeting every Sunday and also has sent and sponsor their children to higher Institutions, build bungalows, etc with this business. Our ladies take pride in doing this because it is part of the Bekwarra culture. Just a trip Bekwarra will end your malnutrition. Just have a taste of it. Proudly Bekwarra. Ushie S. A Historian

OUR BEKWARRA OUR PRIDE The Bekwarra Cultural attire out. Written by U. S. ASHIWERE Finally the anticipated cultural attire of the Bekwarra Nation has been unveiled by his Royal Majesty HRM. Linus Ogbeche. Ushie Katpa I of Bekwarra. Any Nation that refused to identify with themselves culturally is falling blindly into the future and generation upon generation will have to suffer it. Now Bekwarra Agba cultural celebration will look more colourful. No need going to Tiv, idoma, Igede Agba, Igala, Igbo for cultural attires during our traditional marriages, reception, ipiem ihihe, celebration in schools and carnival. Now I can see ukpah man and point at him as my brother. I can now see a Gakem woman and say she is my sister when I see her in her Bekwarra cultural attire. The significant of this cultural attire cannot be over stressed but I must say a big thanks to the Ushie katpa of Bekwarra Nation. The unveiling of the cultural attire took place on Saturday the 25th of may, 2019 with highly respected HRM from Obudu, Obanliku, Yala etc. Rush now and grab your material. BEKWARRA: The voice that need to be heard By U. S. Ashiwere Bekwarra language is the language of the people and the name of the ethnic group. Bekwarra is the most dominant ethnic group in Cross River State and the other major languages spoken in the state include; Efik which is spoken in Cross River South, Ejagham which is spoken in Cross River Central and Bekwarra in Cross River North. The language is becoming very dynamic and dominant as it is being universally spoken and heard by many nations in Nigeria. The language has developed into written form and is taught in primary and secondary schools in the state, churches that is, the bible has been translated into the Bekwarra language and is used by the Roman Catholic Church and indigenous churches in the area. Also, the language is also spoken in many other institutions where their people gathered to impact knowledge. The language is used for news translation in Cross River Broadcasting Corporation (CRBC), Cross River Television Authority, Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) in Calabar, Ikom, Ogoja stations. This made his Royal Highness of Ikaa-Ichia chief Edward Odey Abua (Aka Odabua) in his book: The Grand work of the culture and history of Bekwarra. He said, Bekwarra needs to be heard publicly despite they are minority in Nigeria. The Bekwarra people are pre-dominantly Christians and are majorly Catholic while few attend their indigenous churches like; Rapture power Outreached ministry, Soldiers of Christ, Holiness and power church, etc while others are pagans and few who are still devoted to their African Traditional Religion (ATR). They have several government hospitals cutting across all the wards in the area, it also has both government and private schools like Rochris, Unique, cornerstone,Paradise,Model college,High tower Polytechnic,Owoiche school of health etc, hotels etc. it also has other social amenities like pipe borne water, electricity, both trunk A, B, and C roads, street lights etc.. Nigerians are not fools and the great people of kano state are not fools. bringing transformer to the market to create the impression that he I'd working. for how long bow that that area has been experiencing blackout but immediately after the bribe release video he began to be saint and provide transformer for them. vote out APC. Kwankwaso will give you the right candidate. |
APC knows that atiku will be a threat to them come 2019..lets forget sentiment and vote for atiku comes 2019 |
I always like saraki. I know he has planned ahead with his tricks. but this time he shouldn't because Nigerian needs someone from the far north to pull bubu out of the office. but even if he still wins, he will lobby his way into presidency. let the best candidate win |
any worst person can become the best governor in Lagos state that is why I don't just know what to say because Ambode tried just that he outshines his master which is allowed. he is a charismatic leader, a young fellow but we Nigerians are busy clapping and jubilating as these political oligarchs, these political criminals keep on recycling and recycling within the frame of politics. Ambode you are a good Democrat. go and rest for your generation unborn will not smell destitution. |

am not surprised and Nigerians are not surprised as well. what do you expect when this neutral body has been hijacked by this present administration. the labour president and the minister are all dancing to the tone of this administration. that's why I still accolade Adams oshomola when he was the NLC CHAIRMAN.. THIS Ayuba wabba is incompetent. |
my handwriting is like that... but if I may ask, how many hours did he cover with one page? most technical students can write better than this |
Chris in me. He has been faithful to me the very day I was born. 27th September. I don't have much to say but to worship his holy name. Words can't say it all but I use this day the 27th of September, which marked another year of my birthday to appreciate God for his mercy toward the life of my family, friends, well wishers and myself. I thank mom and dad whom God used as an instrument of making this day a significant one in the history of my life. I pray for more mercy, grace, long life, divine Favour, open door and abundant blessings both now and forever. HAPPY BIRTHDAY USHIE SUNDAY ASHIWERE AND DAVID Oyedepo OF THE WINERS CHAPEL.

this is the only diction the federal government comprehend faster. going to strike is the best mechanism to be employed to ensure the federal government come to a dialogue with the NLC. the minimum wage should be increased without compromise. |
Chris Ngige should not compromise with the federal government of Nigeria. they promised is September and this is September and nothing has been done about it. Nigeria is fill with civil servant everywhere and this minimum wage should be increased to help the parent to Carter for their children, send them to best schools, accommodate them and feed them well. we can't wait for the federal government to do all these for us.. so the civil servant are the grassroots where these money should be disbursed to enable parents maintain their homes. by so doing, it will reduce poverty, crime, and all kinds of social vices. This government should tackle this as one of their major thrust.... and Nigerians will accolade them. Chris Ngige shouldn't compromise. thank you. USA BEKWARRA L. G. A |
stay away from cultism it doesn't pay rather the end result is death... if you are not killed by ur fellow colleagues, you will surely reap it in hell. |
but Anambra state is still the best in terms of NYSC. no doubt bcuz the level of maturity, accommodation, and care given by the host community cannot be over emphasised. |
IMPACT OF GLOBALIZATION ON BEKWARRA NAMES BY USHIE SUNDAY ASHIWERE Renaissance of the Bekwarra culture. We tell our greatness to the sky that our cultural value is unshakable like the Gakem hill. We have a unique history, we are people with distinguished culture, customs and tradition, with an enviable population, with a unique language, highly intelligent, with good national profiles and hospitable. An average Bekwarra person will always welcome you with accommodation, food, give you water to take your bath irrespective of your identity. We are peaceful people. Though, it was because of our leniency that made our culture to be taken away by the white man's culture. Today, an average Bekwarra man doesn't bear Bekwarra name anymore. we choose to bear borrowed names like Idagu, Ogbeche, Onaji, Anyor,Otumahana, Okpleya, Inayi, Okpe, Okpene etc these are not Bekwarra names. What happened to Ukwun,Inung,Irinen,Ebeyin,Ebeshi,Iripia,Ashikem,Ushang,Adah,Eshidenang,Ashiwere,Ejimne, Ukang etc?? Today, an average Bekwarra born even finds it hard to speak Bekwarra fluently, can't cook Bekwarra food, can't greet properly in Bekwarra, can't even dance nor sing the Bekwarra songs. We need to rise up or else, our generation, our children children and our generation unborn would wake up one morning and see that nothing like Bekwarra has ever existed. Let's be proud of who we are... Bekwarra culture is better than the white Man's culture and would always be. Today in fuwukari, we have started operation show your Bekwarra culture and we are really creating awareness here...and you know what? You need to do same either in CRUTECH,UNICAL,FCE OBUDU,AKAMKPA,FIDEL POLY, any anywhere we are that Bekwarra culture is better than the white man's culture. USA 2018 |
