Another master-piece show from President Goodluck's Aide

A renowned Enugu-based Catholic priest, Rev. Father Camillus Ejike Mbaka, blasted President Goodluck Jonathan over his helplessness in the war against corruption and inability to stop killings of innocent people in Nigeria.

DailyTrust reports that the cleric, who used to be a supporter of the incumbent president, expressed criticism during a sermon with the topic “From Good luck to Bad luck” at the Adoration Ground, Emene, Enugu, in the night of December 31, 2014, Wednesday.

According to Rev. Mbaka, the president has surrounded himself with very corrupt public officials and keeps turning a blind eye to their corrupt activities. As a result, millions of Nigerians live in abject poverty and endless insecurity.

“Jonathan has ruled for six years. We need change. NEPA is not working because of corruption. The privatization of public companies has not yielded any fruit because of corruption. Nigerians are sick and tired of wasting innocent lives without government doing enough to stop the destruction,” he said.

Rev. Mbaka, who is also a Founder of the Adoration Ministry, Enugu, reminded the congregation of more than 30,000 worshippers about the abduction of the Chibok girls, saying that the tragedy proves the government “cannot guarantee the welfare, safety and security of the citizens”.

In general the cleric is known for his good attitude to the Jonathans. He anointed Dame Patience Jonathan as the next First Lady in 2015. The First Lady and the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, worshipped at the Adoration Ministry where Jonathan’s wife admitted that she experienced “a spiritual rebirth.” The founder of the Ministry on the same day released some birds which, he said, would go and fight for Jonathan. However, his rhetorics was not too friendly during during the end-of-year mass.

Rev. Mbaka recalled that one of the birds released during First Lady’s visit, had refused to fly. He thinks this could signify that Jonathan was going nowhere after the February elections.

“All the other birds I released flew away but the healthiest of them which is Jonathan’s bird could not fly. I tried to make it fly but it could not fly,” he said leaving the congregation confused and excited at the same time.

The cleric added that in 2011 he was happy, like millions of other Nigerians. Unfortunately, the bad luck which the nation had faced since Jonathan entered the Aso Rock was “quite disturbing”. Therefore the masses desire a change.

“Nigerians are calling for change. We need a change.

“We don’t want to move from bad luck to bad luck; Nigerians want to move from bad luck to good luck,” he said.

Rev. Mbaka condemned some of his colleagues who, according to him, visited the Aso Rock, other Governmental residences in Nigeria to hold “Breakfast Prayer” with the politicians only. He is sure they do so just to collect “fat envelopes of money” rather than to talk about the problems of the poor:

“The men of God only go there to dine and wine with the leaders for their own welfare without telling them the truth. But I’m happy that I, Fr. Mbaka, I’m not that type of priest. If you want money, I dash you money because the God I serve has blessed me abundantly.”

The Adoration Ministry Founder further expressed his opinion about Jonathan’s opponent, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.):

“I don’t know Buhari. I have never sat with him before. I am not being partisan, but I want total change in Nigeria. 

“Buhari cannot make Nigeria an Islamic country because we are in democracy. It was IBB government that dragged Nigeria into OIC. When Buhari fought corruption, people became careful about their actions. Anyone who says Buhari will Islamise Nigeria is not being fair.”

A public affairs analyst, lawyer and entrepreneur Bunmi Awoyemi reminds that there is a place for politicians with rather conservative and strict religious views not only with the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), but with the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) too.

In his piece published by SaharaReporters, the author presents some disturbing facts about the past actions of the current PDP National Chairman Alhaju Adamu Mu’azu.

The author tags Adamu Mu’azu as an Islamist and an unrepentant Sharia advocate, reminds that nothing has been done by the politician when Christians were slaughtered in Bauchi State in 2001.

The current PDP Chairman, as the Governor of Bauchi State, adopted Sharia law as a part of the legal system of Bauchi State and signed it into law in 2001. At the same time a former military Head of State, Muhammadu Buhari, with immense power did not adopt Sharia law as the national law. The retired general also refused to register Nigeria as a member of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC). It was General Ibrahim Babangida who later registered Nigeria as a member of the OIC after his successful 1985 coup against Buhari.

But, back to the topic. According to a statement signed by four leaders of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), no fewer than 30 Christians were killed during a June 2001 outbreak of violence between Muslims and Christians in the Tafawa Balewa and Bogoro areas of Bauchi State. Over 158 Christian-owned houses were burned, along with two churches and a Bible school belonging to the Church of Christ in Nigeria

The religious clashes began on June 18, 2001, after Bauchi Governor Alhaji Ahmed Adamu Muazu declared on June 1 that Islamic (Sharia) law applied to all persons in the state, not Muslims only. On June 4, Muazu assigned an Islamic court judge to Tafawa Balewa and Bogoro Local Government Areas to enforce the Islamic law in the predominantly Christian villages.

The four Christian leaders, Rev. Markus Musa, Rev. Canon H.A. Eluwa, Michael Lulu and Yunusa Manzo, accused the governor of masterminding the Christian killings.

“He knew well that Christians were slaughtered at a roadblock at Zwall and Burgel villages by Muslim jihadists. Yet, to date he did nothing about it,” the Christian leaders claimed.

“The fact that Governor Ahmed Adamu Muazu, as the chief security officer in the state, did nothing to prevent the slaughtering of the Christians at those roadblocks means that he actually helped in the planning and execution of the jihad against the Christians in Bauchi state,” they concluded.

The author also reminded that President Jonathan has recently attended an OIC meeting. Such a development happened for the first time in 15 years.

Therefore, the author makes a conclusion that that the long-standing allegations against Buhari that he is a Sharia advocate and an Islamist are diversionary, wicked and hypocritical. One may recall the PDP National Chairman, Adamu Muazu, who not only advocated that Sharia be widely adopted in Nigeria, but also adopted and enforced it in his state.

There is an audio file being shared all over the social media that you have endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan for re-election.

You know that is not true, you just need to listen to the 49-minute clip that is on the Internet that said I am supporting Jonathan. There is nothing there. Even in the said audio, it is crystal clear that I said I am 100 per cent in support of Buhari.

In that same audio, you said you were waiting for the outcome of the Osun and Ekiti elections before commenting on some issues. Now that those have come and gone, what should Nigerians expect?

That shows you how old the audio clip was. It was sometime in England, among global pastors that I explained to them what was going on in Nigeria. The comment was made just immediately after the Ondo State election. So, that was my considered opinion about the happenings in Nigeria at that time as I explained to them. But the Ekiti and Osun elections have come and gone and we thank God that there was no widespread violence; whether there will be elections in 2015 or not is another kettle of fish because Section 135 of the constitution that stipulates that the presidential election must take place all over the country at the same time. Will they be able to do so in the northeastern states? If they are able to do so then there is no cause for alarm but if the emergency rule − which has not yet been extended or the uproar and constant barrage of attacks by Boko Haram is still taking place− then it might be difficult to conduct an election there.

A close ally of yours, Mr. Yinka Odumakin, seems openly predisposed to President Jonathan’s re-election. Wouldn’t that compromise your position?

Yinka Odumakin is who he is. He is an adult, there is freedom of association. He cannot say anywhere that he and I are in a particular political party. I am not in the PDP and everybody knows that. When President Jonathan sent for me because of what we had done in the past, and wanted us to forge a new course for Nigeria, I told General Buhari before I went to see the President. I do not double-deal and there is nobody in the world who can say “he took this from us so that he could deliver this message.” I love my country; I will contribute my quota regardless of party affiliation to see that Nigeria is at peace and that Nigeria is making steady progress. When it comes to partisan politics, I know where my loyalty lies. First and foremost, I fear God. Secondly, I do not betray those who trust me and thirdly, you will never find me in any game of double-standard. I am not double-faced that you will not know where I stand. My conviction is so deep that you will always know where I stand on issues and before the year ends, I am going to clarify all these issues and let people understand when I do my state of the nation address either before the end of the year or the first thing next year.

You have said you are not in the PDP. Does that mean that you are in the All Progressives Congress?

A house divided against itself cannot stand. I ran an election with Buhari on the platform of the Congress for Progressive Change. My concern has been expressed to him in private and some of the things we said in private are coming out in my book, “Strategic Intervention in Governance” that will be launched on January 23, 2015. In the book, I stated why I find it inconceivable to jump into bed with certain characters. Outside of that, I know that with trustful give-and-take, if Nigerians will priortise the development of our nation, the anti-corruption stand definitely, he (Buhari) has all the things going for him in that direction. The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, December 24 posted an exposing document on the alleged Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) “Plan B”, apparently, in case of failure in the February polls.

It is not clear however where the paper was obtained from. It contains neither dates, nor signatures hinting on the origin of the “document” containing 11 steps.

The politician shared the photo of the paper and tweeted:

It would be recalled that El-Rufai, who has been on several occasions involved in the war of words with the Presidency, earlier today accused Goodluck Jonathan of having broken “the law in all ways to raise his 21 billion naira”. The said sum was gathered during the Fund Raising Dinner.

El-Rufai stated on Facebook:

In Benin City, GOVERNOR Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State says Nigerians must reject the PDP at all levels in next year’s general election, saying for as long as the PDP remains in power, Nigerians will remain in darkness.
Speaking Wednesday when he received about 2,000 defectors from Oredo and Egor Local Government Areas of the state led by Mr. Festus Osaretin Oviawe and Igbe Kingsley respectively, Oshiomhole said the choice before the people in the next election is very clear, a choice between darkness and change.
According to him, “in 16 years, Edo has gained nothing from the PDP besides the resurfacing of the Ofosu-Benin road and the attempt at the dualisation of the Okene-Benin road, with all its imperfections, which they were forced to embark on after we cried out that how could they dualise the road from Abuja and stop abruptly in Okene without extending it to Edo.
“In 16 years,after spending over $25 billion, yet we have no light. Now they have shared the electricity company to their friends and associates. For as long as they remain in power, Nigerians will remain in darkness. Our companies will remain shut and the economy will be subjected to the vagaries instability of the international oil market.”
Accusing President Goodluck Jonathan of abandoning Edo, Oshiomhole said: “he got 95% votes from Edo. What has he done in Edo, what has he done in Benin City? The Queen Edo erosion was caused by the Federal Government and I have written several letters to them to come and fix their mess, yet they ignored us and gave money to Delta, to Kogi.
“See the newly refurbished airport in Benin, I was there and the roof was leaking during the rain. Is that the kind of government we still want in Nigeria, no way.
“For too long across Nigeria, PDP has buffeted us with untruth, lies, deceit, empty promises, both at the political level and economic front and every day they have run short of lies and they have run short of excuses.
“It is not possible for a he-goat to live long to become a sheep, it can’t become a ram, a he-goat will always be a he-goat. PDP can never change and I think you all will also agree that they themselves are aware that they need to change but the more they try to change, the more they remain the same.
“You know before my election in 2012, I remember they were shouting, ‘this is new PDP and I was saying what is new? The head is the same old PDP and it has become even older now, almost approaching a hundred. So the head has not changed and so the body couldn’t have changed but they know they have nothing to change.
“We will sweep PDP away from Abuja and the way we are repairing Edo, the way APC is repairing Lagos, Osun, Oyo, Imo, Ogun, Rivers and other APC states is the way we will repair Nigeria.”
Speaking to the decampees, Oshiomhole said “with you joining us, we are having a renewed encouragement and a renewed determination to even do more for the people.”
Leader of the decampees from Oredo Local Government Area and two-time aspirant to the Edo State House of Assembly, Mr. Festus Oviawe said, “We are leaving PDP because of the injustice done to us and we have decided to join APC in the state”.
He said, “Let me thank the governor on behalf of my supporters for creating the enabling political space in the state for participatory democracy to strive. APC is not a party like our former party where if you don’t have someone behind you, you don’t have a businessman as a leader of the party to stand behind you to influence the election, even when you have your own personal money to do so, without having anybody behind you as your leader, you are not going to be nominated in any election at all.
“Unlike APC, we have seen you through the media where you went to Iyamoh and queued up to vote for the person of your choice whereas in PDP it was not so”.

Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has begged God to do something new in Nigeria in the coming year, 2015.

Addressing the crowd at the 2014 Ogun State Christmas Carol and Service of Nine Lessons which held yesterday, December 22, at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta, Obasanjo said Nigeria is in need of divine intervention.

The former president became a praise worship singer as he prayed through songs to God to intervene in Nigeria’s woes, PM News reports.

He said: “I and the governor have agreed that all what Baba Adeboye said here tonight is what all of us have said.

“There is no more word. But you will assist me to sing this song, Nigeria needs something new this time around.

“The song goes thus, Do something new in my life and do something new in this country.”

As Obasanjo continued in his song, the whole hall was said to have gone into jubilation as shout of “Sai Buhari” rent the air.

The Christmas Carol message was delivered by the General Overseer, Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye.

In his sermon, he pointed out that only God can engineer a way out of the present predicament the nation is going through, advising Nigerians to seek God’s way which is the only solution.

The event which lasted for over five hours had in attendance popular spiritual leaders in the country who prayed for the State, the nation and also called on God to take control of next year’s general elections in the country for peace and tranquility to reign.

Also in attendance were traditional rulers led by State Chairman, Akarigbo of Remoland, Oba Michael Adeniyi Sonariwo. Others were Alake and Paramount ruler of Egbaland,Oba (Dr.) Aremu Adedotun Gbadebo, the Olu and Paramount ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle.

Politicians, market men and women, various social, religious, cultural and political groups from across the State, students groups and artisans were also present at the event.

The former Majority Leader in the Edo State House of Assembly, Mr. Frank Okiye, has reportedly led 20 leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and hundreds of supporters to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

ThisDay reported that Okiye, while addressing the leaders of the APC, comprising the state governor, Adam Oshiomhole, expressed delight to reunite with his ‘ideological friend.

“We have walked into the centre from various directions and I have found out that in life, the only thing that is permanent is change and that the wind of change has taken off. This wind of change has been epitomised and demonstrated in the aggressive approach to liberate our people. It is my pleasure to come out straight to identify with those things that have come from the Oshiohmole’s administration, that today, we are now freer than we were before,” he said.

The defector also stated that there was no need for trumpet blowing that change has taken place in the state whether anybody likes it or not, and pointed out that old order has become dilapidated and uninteresting, as ideas are no longer generated, but hinted that he was elated that the state has a governor who has fire in his bones.

“He came and believed that there is need for change and there are evidences to demonstrate that this man has a focus and he is aggressively pursuing it. It got to a point where people realised that this man has a goal and they are with him with all seriousness, and that is the train of change. I want to be part of that change before it gets to its destination. My leaders and I who are here have resolved to make our little contribution to this process of change. History will not pardon us if on the road to the destination of the Nigerian project, our names reflect somewhere else,” he said.

Speaking also at the occasion, Oshiomhole, who received the defectors, remarked that the addition of Okiye to the APC family will further strengthen the party.

The governor assured that the free political environment being enjoyed in the state will continue to give room to the progressive-minded individuals to team up with the party, adding that he hopes and pray that when the political environment is liberalised, people will join parties that reflect their values, and not because there is no alternatives.

“When people have alternatives, people of the same ideas will flock together on the same political platform. I want to appreciate you for recognising that the worth of a politician is not only in his eloquence but also in his capacity to connect, to relate and work with your leaders and there is no better proof of that than the fact that today, you are here not just by yourself but with your own leaders from your area in the state. When people ask me what  I consider to be my most important contribution to the development of the state, I am quick to say it is the impact we have made in our political environment in the state that we are used by God to reorder our environment such that the people cannot be enslaved. So I am happy that by working together with others, we have liberalised the politics of the state,” Oshiomhole said.

The governor also promised the people of Esan North-east Local Government Area of the state that his administration would continue to do more in its bid to deliver the dividend of democracy to the people.

Meanwhile, it is been speculated that the membership of the PDP in the state has continued to deplete.

It would be recalled that on December 12, Oshiomhole accused the PDP of failing to facilitate major infrastructural developments in power, education health and other sectors in Nigeria.

In the same manner, former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, while  commissioning a new 60-bed Specialist Hospital, built in Ewohinmi, Esan South East Local Government area of the state by Oshiomhole’s administration also advised the people of Edo State to use their votes to sack incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan.

“President King Nebuchadnezzar also known as Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, received a new anointing this week when no less than his spokesman, Mr Doyin Okupe, declared on national television that the president was “just like Jesus Christ”. Even though quite a few people I know were outraged, I respect this. Let me explain.

You see, when all the prophets were on earth, people doubted them. Their followers tried to convince people but most thought they were liars and refused to follow them. I have read the history of most of the prophets. I will not be caught in the same mistake. Because of this knowledge of history, I never question claims to divinity or prophethood. That is how many Jews missed out on heaven because they refused to believe that Jesus was sent by God. There is no way I am missing out on heaven – I have nothing to lose from taking Doyin Okupe seriously.

Let me examine Doyin Okupe’s assertion and the few ways that Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is like Jesus Christ.

1. Jonathan is persecuted. Everyone hates him. I am not sure why. The same way I am not sure why the Jews in the time of Jesus hated him so much. Look at the life of Jonathan. Since he emerged as president, it has been one insult after another. From clueless to bigot to corrupt to divisive. There is no reason for this. It is not like he has not shown remarkable leadership. It is not like he has not led by example: he refused to give into the pressure of his detractors to declare his assets or to fire corrupt ministers in his government. This surely makes him a strong president. It is not like he has been wicked: he has shown mercy to many repentant criminals by granting them pardon. This takes me to point two.

2. Jonathan is forgiving. Do you remember when they came to arrest Jesus and one of his disciples cut off the ear of one of the soldiers? What did Jesus do? He healed the ear of the man who came to take him away and said that he who kills by the sword will die by the sword. Mention one top criminal that Jonathan has successfully prosecuted and imprisoned? He has no time for such wickedness. And remember when Jesus said about the harlot, „he who is without sin let him cast the first stone“? Yes. That is what Jonathan was trying to say when he said that stealing is not corruption.

3. Jonathan came from humble beginnings. You remember how Jonathan didn’t have shoes growing up? You remember also how his father was a fisherman? Ok. Jesus’ father was not a fisherman, but a carpenter is not that different from a fisherman. In fact without a carpenter, who would make boats for the fisherman?

4. Jesus went from being born in a manger, to riding into Jerusalem in nice robes on a donkey. Goodluck Jonathan has gone from being shoeless and riding in a canoe to being Nigeria’s number one public officer riding in bullet proof cars. Let’s just say that donkeys were the bullet proof cars of the days of Jesus. And I strongly suspect that if you do the research, you will find that the place in that fishing village where Goodluck was born was just as lowly as Jesus’ manger.

5. Jesus changed water into wine. There is no evidence that Jesus drank the wine that he produced. Just as there is no evidence that Goodluck is given to a lot of wine. Wicked people will spread rumours about the president liking his drink but who can provide proof? Red eyes alone mean nothing. Lack of sleep can cause red eyes.

6. Jesus was a teacher from the time he was twelve years old in the temple until he started giving sermons on mountains. Goodluck Jonathan was a teacher in Rivers State College of Education. Yes a college of education is no temple or mountain but the key word is teaching. The venue is immaterial.

7. Jesus had an overzealous apostle who on one occasion even chopped off the ear of someone who tried to arrest them. Jonathan has Doyin Okupe.

8. Jesus had patience. Goodluck Jonathan has Patience.

There are many more reasons I can give to make people stop getting angry at Mr Okupe for comparing Jonathan to Jesus. Buhari can attack this Nigerian prophet at his own risk. But as an old man, Buhari should know better. If the people campaigning for him are insulting this man who is just like Jesus, he should be like Pilate who came out publicly when the Jews wanted Jesus dead, to wash his hands clean of the blood of Jesus. Buhari should address a press conference with a bowl of water and do this. What you don’t want is bad luck at a time of elections. A word is enough for the wise”.

THE Rivers State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, has dismissed claims by the Peoples Democratic Party that he was funding the All Progressives Congress with the state’s resources.

The PDP in Rivers State had maintained that finances of the state had become inadequate for executing development projects because the governor was using a large chunk of the resources to fund APC campaigns.

Amaechi had defected from the PDP to the APC after a lingering political crisis that threatened the governor’s control of the PDP structures in the state.

But Amaechi, who spoke at the launch of the campaign of the State APC governorship candidate, Dr. Dakuku Peterside, at the Liberation Stadium in Port Harcourt, insisted that he was not funding the APC.

He challenged those accusing him of using state resources to fund the APC to show any proof or bank account through which he was sending money belonging to the state to the party.

Describing the APC as a political party capable of funding its activities, the governor explained that the state had no money to fund any political party.

According to him, “Rivers State Government has no money to fund the APC. They have been accusing me of using Rivers money to fund the APC. The APC is a big party. So, it can fund its activities.

“I do not fund the APC with Rivers money. I challenge all those who have been accusing me of funding the APC to show just one account through which I fund the APC with monies belonging to Rivers State.”

Amaechi, however, urged members of the party from Port Harcourt Local Government Area to collect their permanent voters’ cards and vote for the APC presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, on February 14, 2015.

“Buhari can win the presidential election if you vote for him. Your vote can make the needed change in Nigeria. Buhari will make sure that the thieves amongst Nigerians do not steal your money again.

“He will then use the money he has saved from the thieves amongst Nigerians to build roads, infrastructure and fight poverty and create jobs for millions of Nigerians,” the governor said.

Describing Peterside as his successor, Amaechi, who introduced the APC governorship candidate to the crowd, expressed dissatisfaction over the turnout of the party supporters for the rally, adding that the exercise will be repeated on January 2, 2015.

He said, “This stadium has a capacity for 16,000 people. You promised us you were going to mobilise 20,000 supporters to the rally, but you could only mobilise 10,000, which is not good enough. Port Harcourt Local Government has over 106,000 registered APC members. So, you must repeat this rally.”

In his remark, Peterside urged the people of the state to vote for their destiny and that of their children, adding that the 2015 governorship election was not about ethnicity.

“The 2015 governorship election is not about ethnicity; it is not about our individual tribe; it is not about where you come from; it is about your destiny and the destiny of your children. It is about our collective future,” the governorship candidate added.

Peterside added that his administration would focus on four key areas, describing them as security, respect for the rule of law, infrastructural projects, the development of human capital and wealth creation.

Also, the State APC Chairman, Dr. Davis Ibiamu Ikanya, explained that the party would organize rallies for its governorship candidate in the 23 local government areas in the state.

Highlight of the occasion was the decamping of some members of the Rivers Mainstream Coalition to the APC. The coalition is formerly a platform on which the aggrieved 16 governors expressed their views against the PDP’s refusal to embrace the rotation of the governorship position.
