Spanishmario: Can I wear a coloured fancy shoe(wine) wiv a native attire

By all means. smiley

Tip.
For a coloured shoe on a native attire like Ankara prints try not to keep every one dizzy by putting on a pair of shoe with prints as well ,like snake skin , leaopard print and the likes. Just keep it cool and simple with whatever colour you pick for your shoes(bright or bold).

For a coloured fancy shoe , i will advice you pick a simple pair of loafers (without lace) if the colours are really bright.

For a plain native like the brocade,Linen or even a plain lace fabric ,you can try doing a patent colour pair of shoe.

i've seen a guy in a pair of royal blue loafers and white brocade (Up and down, what the yoruba's call Buba and Shokoto). it was really cool because the white was plain (no prints) and what this did was to draw people's attention down wards to your shoes. wink
i think its a modern and stylish way to dress a native attire which usually leaves the guys with not many options when coordinating it.

CELEBRITIES THAT HAVE A PEAR SHAPED FIGURE.

Fashion / Re: Don't Know What To Wear ? Look In Here by uzoo: 10:19pm On Sep 19, 2013
Sorry guys , i have been so busy , and hardly had time to come on here for an update.Anyways thanks everyone for your appreciations and do remember that you can send in your questions here or through my twitter handle @P_A_T_W if you wish to remain anonymous.

So i was browsing through my old files and i just wanted to share this particular tip on how to dress A pear shaped figure.

HOW TO FLATTER YOUR PEAR SHAPE

A pear shaped woman or person is one that looks more like a triangle where the region around the waist, abdomen, hips and upper thighs have more of the weight or size of the person concentrated. Here the shoulders are more slender in size than the waist area, the bust region is lesser in size than the hip region and the legs are usually skinny or slightly equal in size with the arms and shoulders.

Tips.
When getting a pair of pants/trousers , try to get the ones that are straight cut or wide leg jeans/trousers,this will help to balance the areas around your hips and waist by giving you a flattering figure.

When putting on a top or blouse try to get them fitted around the waist to give an illusion of an hour glass figure.

For an hour glass figure do the same with the dress.

The picture below should be helpful in making the right decisions when going shopping for clothes.

@kaza4blues
Quite on the contrary ,Bow ties can be worn to any formal event , and that includes interviews. Quite a lot of people believe that the Bow tie is only meant to be worn for occassions and parties , this is not the case ,the Word here is ''TIE'' ,so whether its a bow tie or your traditional tie its still a tie.

Now having said this , you have to consider the suit when putting on a bow Tie to an Interview, i would rather you check what you have in your wardrobe to see that the suit is the right one for the Bow tie.

Here's a Tip.

For a small Bow tie (the ones that are not too wide ) you have to wear them with the type of jacket that has smaller Lapels.
And for a bold Bow tie with wider wings,a jacket with a wider Lapel will be best suited for it.

A bow tie often gives a more conservative look ,and this look is what you will find amongst people in the Academic circle ( Professors, Lecturers and the likes).

If you are on the bulky side i would advice you go for the second tip and for a slimmer neck sized male the first tip works well.

@Yield
I see you too smiley

@maingwaest
hmm... traditional weddings are all about Glam ,you can look as glamorous as you want with just a dress with or without the signature Traditional head gear. Quick question though, are you going for a western styled dress , or you are referring to skirts and blouses and dresses you would like to make by your self Using (laces,Ankara print, e.t.c).
in the mean time , i will come up with some suggestions ,while i wait for your answers

@idadaniel
Going for a Tom-boy look depends on 2 things , 50 percent is the Dress , and the other 50 percent is your mannerism.(the way you carry the dress on you) I could come up with a pair of cargo pants in army print (camou) with pockets all over as a casual look , but when you pair it on two different ladies.the interpretation will only come out the way they walk or sit in the pants, the way they carry their hair do in the same pants, the facial look e.t.c.
But since you are gradually trying to make the switch ,it should be easy.

i would appeal to you all to hang on till i can sort out my files and get back to you on pictures and co-ordinations.

thanks.

Goat's Milk is excellent, but what i realised about the ones i see a lot in stores is that they come in one whitening brand name or the other like

ABC Goat milk whitening shower gel,or Tricia Goat's milk lightening shower cream etc. ,these are just examples , i can not say how effective they are in their lightening and whitening claims. But goat's milk itself is a good nourishment for the skin.

I use Dover shower Gel because of its moisturising content, i'm yet to see a shower gel like Dove that will not leave my body (not my face) dry as soon as i step out of the shower.

Tnx so much for d info I also use it on my stomach cos of d stretchmark caused by pregnancy, I just wanted 2 b sure that I was doing d right thing.

I also want to ask if its compulsory 2 use a cleanser cos I got neutrogena oil-free acne stress toner n its changing my complexion so fast n making me feel lyk I'm bleaching or is there a better one u can recommend 4 me.tnx

The Neutrogena oil-free acne stress toner DOES NOT bleach ,it's main function is to restore the normal Ph balance of your skin after a facial scrub and facial wash. If you read the Ingredients properly it contains salicylic acid which is its main ACTIVE INGREDIENTS for treating acne ,i have an oily skin which is prone to acne and other blemishes ,This is what i use as well and its doing a good job for me so far.
If your complexion is not even or your face is extremely uneven with the rest of your skin , then try reading the content of the rest of your facial products to find out if its got any bleaching agents or steriods that may be responsible for this.

Below is the list of ingredients in the Neutrogena oil free Acne control Toner.

Active Ingredients: Salicylic Acid (2%) (Acne Treatment)

Inactive Ingredients:

Water, Alcohol Denatured (40%), Butylene Glycol, PPG 5 Ceteth 20, C12 15 Alkyl Lactate, Cetyl Lactate, PEG/PPG 20/6 Dimethicone, Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract, Cucumis Sativa (Cucumber) Fruit Extract, Cocamidopropyl PG-Dimonium Chloride Phosphate, Disodium EDTA, Sodium Hydroxide, Sodium Citrate, Sodium Chloride, Benzalkonium Chloride Solution, Sodium Benzotriazole Butylphenol Sulfonate, Blue 1 Lake (CI 42090), Yellow 5 Lake, Green 5, Fragrance

I am so loving this thread@uzoo I av bin luking 4ward 2 it but pls I want 2 know ow long u leave apricot scrub on d face or body 4 it 2 be effective. Tnx

You dont have to leave it on , wet the face with some water ,get a pea size mount of the scrub from the tube on to your fingers or palms, and rub vigorously on face and neck in a circular motion .Use the palm of your hands on cheeks ,fore head and chin ,then use finger tips around corners of your face to rub (under eyes where you have dark circles,in between your nostrills just beside your nose bridge and other corners)
Rinse off with water , and feel the skin with your fingers , the areas that haven't been scrubbed will feel rough and oily so here you can repeat again and rinse off the second time.

If you want to glam things up you can also shop for swing dresses.

They are styled by giving a perfect fit around your neck ,shoulders and arms but starts to flare from your bust area and swings around your entire body up to your knees or thighs. Like the shape of a bell. They also come in halter neck.

its a fashionable way celebrities such as Halle Berry and Amber rose like to dress when they are pregnant. It looks really good on Petite sized pregnant ladies, and it was worn a lot in the early seventies and late sixties, i have old pictures of my mom in them... smiley

Prettyberrys: Hi, I am using neutrogena light sesame , netrogena acne -prone skin formula facial bar soap for my face and extract whitening herbal soap for my body. I've been using it for 2 weeks now but not seen any sign of change in my sign of change yet. I need an even toned treat for my skin.

Like i said you should start on a skin regimen , Exfoliate, cleanse ,tone and moisturise.

Exfoliation helps reveal clear and smooth skin that tends to be covered in dead skin cells , this may be why you have an uneven skin tone, concentrate on the areas of the skin that are dull and darker than the rest of your skin tone.

Your whitening soap or cream will not work if you do not exfoliate 2 or 3 times a week to get rid of the dead skin cells that prevent it from penetrating in to the skin.
Get a skin brush and an apricot scrub ( try St. Ives Naturally clear Apricot scrub) for the entire body,do not use the brush on the facial skin use the scrub with your hands when you wet your face.

Another Trending wear which you can also incorporate into a maternity wear is the Peplum Blouse/Top

The thing with Peplum tops is that the waist line where the fabric is joined is not expandable so its best to wear them early in your pregnancy ( say first 4 or 5 months depending on the size of your belly bump)

They make a good cover up when worn on a pencil skirt or a pair of work pants.

Again when shopping for dresses (A-line or Flared) you can shop for dresses with an empire waist like the picture of yours truly in a floral print dress below. ( the empire waist is exactly below your Bust sitting above your belly) This look can accommodate a really big belly even at 9 months. I paired it up with a white boy-friend cardigan and some flat shoes.

i am loving the yellow cardigan with ankara print skirt .

some thing i would wear even if i am not pregnant. the colour of the cardigan just makes the ankara look great.

You can try this with any colour of cardigan/shrug you have and then make an ankara skirt which has the colour of your cardigan/shrug in the ankara print.

soledadd: Thanks so much. I like your collections. Can you help me with good pregnancy outfits. Finding it a bit difficult shopping for clothes. God bless you.

Hi,

shopping for maternity wears can be a bit challenging and very frustrating too, i have to admit though its a time in your life where you are free to wear sizes that are quite bigger than your regular size but having said this there are certain ways to dress an over sized out fit on a pregnant lady with out making her look Drab especially for work or business.

Here are some tips when shopping for maternity wears

1. Tops ,Blouses, and Shirts. - When getting any of these you have to ensure that they are not cropped ,they have to cover your entire belly and sometimes even go as low as your Pubic area. The only top that you can wear cropped is a shrug or a jacket and in this case you are either wearing the tops first of all before the jacket or you are layering them.

2. Dresses - Short dresses can be really cute on our pregnant ladies if coordinated well. The trick for flared dresses is to get a tiny belt or a lose fabric belt to tie loosely around your upper waist ,just above your big belly ,This is a good option because as you increase in size during your trimesters the flared dresses are can still fit and you can adjust the lose belt as your belly increases to give you comfort.
Also ensure that if its a plain coloured dress then make the colour of the belt a contrasting colour, say blue dress with black belt , black dress with red or pink belt, green dress with a yellow belt . That way you have created a stylish look for a plain maternity dress.
If you dont like using belts try shopping for colour blocking dresses like the ones in the picture, they create an illusion of a waist line even for a pregnant belly.

2b . Maxi dresses are also a comfortable wear for maternity ,especially those who like to hide their legs when they get swollen during pregnancy. With this type of dresses is best to do them in sleeveless or strapless for a more updated maternity style of dressing. If you are not comfortable showing off your arms ,then you can get a shrug or a simple cardigan that will hit just at your natural waist line. ( for a big belly this might be difficult to find..lol. so the best way to know is to look behind you through a mirror to make sure the cardigan is not stopping at your bumbum but slightly above it). flat shoes or simple T-STRAP sandals like the ones in the picture are best for the maxi dresses.

3. Jackets, Shrugs, Blazers,Cardigan. - no matter how big your belly is , it doesnt matter if you wore a jumper or a long sleeve shirt to work or even a simple ladies short sleeve T-shirt just for you to be comfortable all day ,The moment you throw in a Blazer or a jacket ,then you are excused . It is always important to put your breathing space around your body first before fashion.

If you've got only a few jackets and skirts or pants in just black or grey for work then your inner wear is a good way to bring in some colour so you can still look beautiful without looking tired or without make up or a bad hair day. Say a flashy pink ladies T- shirt with a round or V neck,or a spaghetti strap yellow chiffon top with some frills in the middle The colours have to really Pop, ( Yellow , Red, Orange etc).

4.Skirts , Trousers, Bottoms. - If i am right , most ladies prefer to put their non maternity bottoms under their bellies for better comfort, they do this and then let the tops do the covering up. So i will advice that if you do not have any maternity bottoms that are specifically made for pregnant women ( the ones with the extended band attached to the waist of the skirts and trousers that you can pull up as belly grows) Then pls always place the waist of the bottoms under your waist line and cover up with the blouse or top.

5. Bags , purses, clutches - This is up to you really , but personally i prefer dressing up a pregnant lady in large or medium sized clutches, like the ones in the picture . You'll look really classy with a pair of trousers, blouse/top , and blazer when holding up a clutch under your arm. Trust me.
And besides with the little one in there ,you dont want to carry any heavy Tote bags . Just a tip.

6. Shoes - Flats all the way , Nigerian roads are not heels friendly , how much more for a pregnant lady. But make sure your flats come with an edge. ( leopard prints, metal embellishment ,studds, glitters, any thing really, but not dull).

Finally if you want to be a hot mama try some really nice lip colours (Pink ,Red, etc.),even if you're not having any jewelry on ,try to make your face look less tired. If you are not the make up type you can achieve this using some shiny glosses it puts the glo in glowing. wink (you know what they say about pregnant women glowing)

i hope this helps . Please feel free to post any questions you have as you enjoy your blossoming months ahead. cheesy

maxiflexi: Uzoo, my 8 month old has long hair on the top of her head but very little round the back & most of the front too. I've been told to chop it all off after her 1yr bday but I don't wanna!!! cry
What can I do to encourage her hair to grow? (I use a mixture of sheabutter & coconut oil on our hair)

This happens a lot to growing babies, and three reasons for this could be because of the position they are frequently placed on the bed,buggy,car-seat,or the way the tender hair is being pulled when making the baby's hair and lastly when there is lack of sufficient nutrients.

Unfortunately ,that advice is the same i would give , because it will continue to grow that way (unequally)if it is left that way. There is no amount of treatment or hair care that will quicken the pace at which the shorter areas you mentioned grows to catch up with the rest of the longer hair.

What you could do is probably cut it a month or two after her first birthday to the same level as the rest so they are at the same length
Once you've done that ,then follow this tips to a healthy hair.

1. wash her hair with baby shampoo (Johnson's ,Aveeno, e.t.c which ever suits you)

2. moisturise the hair morning and night with baby oils, and massage the scalp every day with it.

3. DONT MAKE HER HAIR WITH EXTENSIONS(ATTACHMENTS) i say this because children at that age still have tender scalp/hair

and hair dressers are always pulling it to make it look smooth by the time they are done.
just be gentle to the hair when you start making it.

4. GIVE HER LOADS OF MILK ! ( S.M.A,COW & GATE e.t.c. whatever baby formula you are nursing her with) this will supply her with all the nutrients and proteins for hair growth.

Number 4 is really essential, and you will start to see an improvement in everything else, nails, skin ,stronger bones.

This is something I really wish that Nigerians will embrace - Having a culture of giving milk to their kids every day (especially fresh uht milk for ages 2 to 10).

you can take a look at this write up on importance of milk in growing kids. http://productsthatactuallydowork..com/p/health.html

I hope this helps . do let me know if you have any more questions.
