For a second time I agreed to worship in her church even though I didn't honour the the first invitation
citing various reasons which she unexcused and
termed flimsy. She inisisted on following me to
my house, so that she could come the next day
being sunday to pick me. We walked from Sapele
road into GRA, Benin city where I'm currently a 3
week old resident. I opened the door to my
apartment and ushered her in but she refused to
go in insisting she would come early the next day
and that I should get dressed before 7am since
service was for 7:30am. I walked her back to the
road while we chatted heartily getting further
acquainted with each other. I got back home
picked the clothes I was going to wear and went
to bed. I didn't immediately sleep off as I was
responding to chats and updates on social media.
The last time I took note of the time, it clocked
12:22am. I finally woke up at about 6:48am. It
was a bedroom apartment with bathroom, toilet,
kitchen ensuite. So I always left my towel in the
room while I bathed then dry my body with it in
the room. I Hurried into the bathroom, brushed
and took my bath. I dried my body and got
dressed. I picked up my phone and looked at the
time, it was 7:07am my guest cum host was yet
to arrive, then I uttered "this winch wey say make
I ready by 7 never even reach here". "I'm here",
came the response from a corner of the room. I
was startled. She explained further, "when I got
to the door I knocked and there was no response
then I pushed the door and it opened. When I got
inside I noticed you were in the bathroom so i
helped myself to this chair. I didn't want to cause
you any embarrassment when you came out from
the bathroom naked by announcing my presence
so I faced the wall". Hmm if I hear say you face
the wall. I was embarrassed but I didn't know if
it's because she heard me call her a witch or
because she had seen me stark naked. We walked
quietly to the road without saying a word to each
other. We had a very silent ride in the taxi that
took us from Sapele road to Christ embassy off
Ekenwan road. I could sense she was feeling
sorry for making me feel embarrassed due to her
seeing me butt naked, afterall we just met and
are seeing for a third time within 12 days. I guess
that informed her silence. My silence was
informed by a feeling of guilt of calling her a
witch which she heard. We got off the taxi and
went into the church still not speaking to each
other. I was very absent minded throughout the
service, I only came alive when it was time for
the final grace. We walked to Ekenwan road and
waited for a taxi, still maintaining the silence.
when a taxi showed up she instructed the driver
to take us to ring road. I couldn't bring myself to
ask her why ring road and not GRA. We sat
behind and still maintained the silence. We
alighted at the Oba market, she got down and as
I made to follow she signalled I waited behind. I
watched her disappear. I was beginning to feel
irritated when the taxi driver finally spoke, "e be
like say madam don annoy you, dis wan wey two
of una silent since". Was he expecting an answer
from me to that statement? I opened the door
and walked towards a newspaper stand. I noticed
the taxi driver alighted as well and charged
towards me. " Una never pay me" he shouted.
Another embarrassing moment. I whispered to
him we never go I just wan buy paper. He
followed me just to make sure. When we got back
to the taxi my friend was there carrying a bag
containing stuffs that looked like shoes. She paid
the taxi driver and he drove off. I finally
questioned her rationale for doing that knowing
fully well that I am still far from home. She
apologised and said she was not just happy.
Then I asked was it because I referred to you as
a witch? She was surprised and asked when did
you call me a witch? Damn so she didn't even
hear it. See as I koba myself. She asked again
when did you call me a witch? I finally opened up
and told her. She said I heard but I thought you
said this Chic.All these happened yesterday and
she hasn't responded to my calls since we said
bye to each other at about 1:15pm yesterday.
