Politics › Presidency, N/assembly Should Obey Federal Character Principle – FCC by Validated(op): 6:32am On Jul 29, 2015
The Federal Character Commission, a parastatal of the Presidency, on Tuesday advised that the Federal Government and the National Assembly should abide by its principle in the sharing of positions and political appointments.

The organisation also said that henceforth, no funds shall be allocated for capital projects to any Ministry, Department and Agency of government that fails to sit with its appropriate committee and obtain a “certificate of no objection.”

The Chairman of FCC, Alhaji Muhammed Bello Alkali, and Secretary, Mr. Jude Rex-Ogbuku, stated these while responding to questions from journalists on the political logjam in the National Assembly over the sharing of positions and perceived lopsided appointments by the Presidency during a press briefing in Abuja.

The commission said that although the federal appointments and sharing of positions in the National Assembly were contentious issues, the FCC in its Act anticipated appointive and not elective offices.

Rex-Ogbuku said, “The National Assembly, as you know, is elective and as the chairman has said, it is an institution and we just hope that they would pay a little attention to the federal character principles. But to say we cover them, no. We do not think that we have control over the elective positions, as it is only in the areas of appointive position that the FCC seems to be respected.

“If it is election, as it is in National Assembly, they are actually at liberty but we will enjoin them ordinarily to do the right thing by following the federal character principles.

“I think the same question was asked on the appointments by the Presidency. Yes, of course, it is a constitutional provision and ordinarily and naturally, we are also to be adviser to the Presidency on the appointment of officers.

“Mind you, the Presidency is actually at liberty but it is enjoined by the Constitution to follow the federal character principles. We expect that in the appointments, the Presidency must ensure that no part of the country feels alienated. Therefore, in the distribution, it is expected to take into cognisance all the geo-political zones in the country, the states, and where necessary, the ethnic affiliations such that no part of the country feels that it has been alienated in the appointments.”

hary4luv:
I encountered an act in the office some days back and since then it seems things have taken an awkward turn in my office.

I work in an organization as an assistant consultant, which by implication makes my office very close to my boss who is the senior consultant in our department.

On a fateful Friday after work, I decided to stay behind in order to tide up some office works. After about two hours I started hearing some strange moans/voices coming from the office directly opposite which happens to be my oga's office. I was curious so I decided to take a look to see what's going on, when I got to the door, I didn't hear any voice so I thought maybe it was my imagination. I gently pushed the door expecting it to be locked only for the door to open and lo and behold my boss was banging our newly employed secretary on his office table. our both eyes jammed, I stood frozen for some minutes (I guess) before I heard his voice "Young man what are you looking for in my office?"

Since that event things have been very awkward between me, my boss and the secretary. ( Don't know what to do)
Just go and talk to HR about it. If you do not, you are a goner. It is called "The Prisoner Dilemma", they are two against you so, the earlier you report it the better. If you delay and he starts dealing with you, no-one will believe you.

Buhari is just ranting and it was honourable of him to have been silent since. Now that Baba has dragged himself into the matter, he should use his executive power to muster 2/3rd Senators to impeach Ekweremmadu if he can.

Baba, abeg go face your work jare! Dollar is already N227, you are talking of irrelevant matters. If you do not like Ekweremmadu, please BOYCOT the Senate or mobilise for his impeachment if your party will not scatter. A president that cannot control his party men want to fight corruption and fulfil 91 promises in 4 years. I pity gullible Nigerians APC supporters.

Sir what are you saying?? $4.4b in 30days bawo?? is that how revenues are being remitted?? What about other production costs and expenses??

Moreover Nigeria LNG Limited is jointly owned in the following proportions: Nigerian National
Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) owns 49%,
Shell Gas B.V. owns 25.6%, Total LNG Nigeria
Ltd owns 15% and Eni International owns
10.4%.

So they share the revenue daily now abi??

Please lets not create unnecessary tensions while staying vigilant.
Thought we all disputed the PwC report on $20B because of the "production cost and other expenses"? Are we going back and forth now?

Apples And oranges..

When people cannot read and comprehend simple English words.
Not sure what you mean. Are you implying that this government has not been exporting oil since may 29, 2015?
It is worrisome for someone to claim "empty treasury" when $5Billion was left for you and your government has been exporting oil since inauguration to the tune of about $4.4Billion.
Politics › Re: $3.4billion Already Missing Under Buhari? by Validated: 4:01am On Jun 28, 2015
The $5Billion NLNG remit may not have included the oil sales in the last 30 days that this government has been in office. A simple analysis would show that this government may have sold about 72.3 million barrels since inauguration at the average daily production of 2.41 million barrels. At the current price of between $58 - $61 per barrel, Nigeria would have earned about $4.4Billion (i.e. 2.41*30days*$60), under Buhari's watch. Since there is no minister, no clear structure as NNPC Board was said to have been dissolved with Deziani, one would hope that Buhari is taking records because, Nigeria belongs to all of us.

We must be vigilant as Op noted to avoid being robbed by those who claim to be saints. Long live Nigeria.

Another COMMITTEE to review Ahmed Joda Committee Report. After, a new committee to advice on the committee's report. Then another committee to report on the white paper. Then a new committee to implement. Another committee will review the implementation committee job. By the time all the committees finish, Nigerians would be confused, while the political jobbers (committee members) are smiling to the bank.

Oshomole should stop blaming NOI. I was in ICAN conference in 2010 when Oshomole, Amaechi, Fashola and later Fayemi took turn to lambast NOI and Accountant General of the Federation over the Sovereign Wealth Funds. They later went to court under the aegis of Governors' forum. Oshomole specifically said that the Funds being saved by NOI was for his own generation and so let the future generation fend for themselves when the time comes. Let Oshomole deny it, I still have the recording at that conference.

Arm-chair analysts are everywhere in Nigeria claiming empirical evidence grin

How did you arrive at 5 million? That is approximately 140k people per state. Do you know the population of Almajiri, poor and destitute in Kano metropolis alone (no harm meant as Kano has the highest census-population in Nigeria)? They constitute at least 40% or about 4 million (using 2014 estimated population of approx. 10million). What about area boys, beggars, unemployed, under-employed in all the major Nigerian cities? One local government area alone will swallow your 140k in some states. FG is grappling with the issue of Ghost workers and you are talking of N5000 for the poor that people will shove astronomical numbers on you. If FG tries it, all the poor in Chad, Niger, and other adjourning states will flock into Nigeria for the booty.

Your empirical evidence has not considered the inflationary impact of such a useless policy. APC is really an unserious party to say the least.

If FG/Buhari so love the poor, let them declare free education up to Secondary school level and adjust tuition downward in Federal Universities and Polytechnics, instead of another useless "subsidy-scam" political charade.
