Career › Re: I Sent The Wrong Salary Schedule To The Bank by Validated: 8:50pm On Dec 09, 2015
In managing salaries, on monthly basis, except there are exits, additions you are likely to have the same amount. Not sure if you work in a wage-paying organisation. However, using your information, there would not have been significant difference. Again, perhaps your company uses a Community Bank. Any bank should have a tripartite or worse still a dual verification (Cheques or debit advise from Finance duly signed, Schedule of Employees with amount payable which total should tallying with the amount on the debit advice or cheque (obviously this is soft copy most-times), and/or a hard-copy of the staff schedule duly approved by relevant signatory for record purpose). With any varaition on either of these, the bank ought not to have released the credits (worse case is for your management to advice employees about this error).

Now my advice are:

i. Do not confront your management. If you are debited for the excess (if any), ensure the December schedule adjust for every over-payments. Again, I am wondering why there were no shortages (underpayments). Could it have been you overpaid only?

ii. On receipt of the letter, reply to your HR and copying your Accountant and Auditor that you would expect the corrections to be made in December. Politely ask them to kindly confirm to you where the adjusted difference would be paid to other than to re-imbusrse you for the deficit you will suffer in November. This would definite cause them to do the right thing, as nobody wants a soiled career.

iii. Your bank erred greatly in not checking the different transaction documents they received. On this note, it may be petinent to mention in your reply (again politely), that you suggest that the management meet with the bank to ensure better controls are in place to safeguard company funds. It was good that it is salaries, it could have other bigger payments and would be lost.

iv. Your last paragraph on your reply to the query was very wrong, though written with good intention. Perhaps you answered in panicky mode or was angry. Next time, find an experienced and trusted friend to review your reply. In any case, you may also notify your employee relations officer (if your company has one) to help your persuade management to rescind their earlier decision.

What is fraudulent about tolling major highways to generate funds for its maintenance? Are you not tired of all these potholes and gullies called roads in this 21st century in Nigeria. If tolling will make the highways to be properly maintained then so be it. The money spent of shock absorbers, arms, bushings et al will minimize talkless of the precious man hours that will be saved.

Next should be the removal of subsidy.
What happens to the N1.50 per litre Petroleum tax government collects? Would it not amount to double taxation. Give me a better arguement.
Not even sure you read the post!
Politics › Why FG Toll Intention Is F-R-A-U-D-U-L-E-N-T And Should Be Resisted!!! by Validated(op): 4:25pm On Dec 09, 2015
In removing tolling in 2003, Obasanjo advanced the following reasons:

i. The N63 million which the toll gates generated daily was nothing to write home about.
ii. The toll gates constituted inconvenience to motorists and encouraged corruption.
iii. Toll gates had been known to record serious vehicular accidents while portions of roads near many of them were full of pot holes.

To ensure continuous road maintenance, the Federal Government introduced the petroleum tax of N1.50k per litre. So for every litre of fuel bought at the pump, Nigerians pay a flat tax of N1.50. As at December 2012, Nigerians were consuming average 39.66 million litres of Petroleum Motor Spirit (PMS). http://thenationonlineng.net/nigeria-consumes-39-66m-litres-petrol-daily-2/. Now the estimated daily consumption has hit 40.32 million for PMS alone, not including diesel. So daily on fuel government is receiving N60.5 Million as Petroleum tax on PMS. AGO consumption is estimated to be about half of PMS consumption. That puts the daily Petroleum tax at N30.25 Million (estimated).
So, in total, FG rakes in about N91 Million as Petreum tax daily. For a year, this translates to a whopping N33.2 Billion.

Question for Fashola, Buhari and APC FG is where is the Petroleum Tax going intohuh We complained that PDP was stealing, believing that APC would be more transparent, yet, you have so far proven to be worse.

Fellow Nigerians, this is not the time for party or tribal persuasion. Let us ask questions. Government the world over are accountable to the people. It is only in Nigeria that government wakes up introduce one form of tax, then wait for the people to get use to it and rename it in another format. Just like the dying #SocialmediaBill, let us join the fight to stop this obnoxious re-introduction of Tolls on our roads.

Politics › Fuel Scarcity: APC Senators Frustrate Move To Summon Buhari by Validated(op): 8:04am On Nov 25, 2015
By Henry Umoru & Joseph Erunke

ABUJA—EFFORTS by senators of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to convince the Senate to summon President Muhammadu Buhari to give reasons for the ongoing fuel scarcity in the country, were frustrated, yesterday, by their counterparts in the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

The PDP senators, who berated the President’s handling of current economic situation in the country, insisted that he be made to a appear before the Senate to give explanations on the cause of the fuel scarcity and how he intended to solve the issue as Minister of Petroleum.

Their frustrated efforts came following a motion, tagged: “The current fuel scarcity all around the country and the need to urgently resolve the crisis,” sponsored by Senator Jibrin Barau, APC, Kano North and 23 other senators, which was debated upon.

Speaking through Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, PDP, Abia South, the opposition senators accused the President of mismanaging the country’s oil sector, causing untold hardship for Nigerians, barely six months after being in the saddle as president.

But the Senate, in a reaction to the development, said the President could not be summoned even as Minister of Petroleum.

The red chamber, reacting through its chairman on Media and Publicity, Aliyu Sabi, insisted that the fact that the President was overseeing the Petroleum ministry as a substantive minister, did not make him to be easily summoned like other ministers.

Abaribe had, while contributing to the motion, urged the Senate to summon President Buhari to explain why the Federal Government was yet to find solutions to the continued fuel problem in spite of its claim that the refineries in the country were working.

He said the unnecessary hardship occasioned by the scarcity could only be resolved if lawmakers were adequately briefed on the true state of affairs. Senator Abaribe‘s submission received wide support from other PDP senators, as they all hailed him.

Senator Abaribe supported his call with a prayer for adoption but it was defeated when the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, put it up for a voice vote.

At this point, the APC Senators, who were more in number, defeated their PDP colleagues with overwhelming shout of “yes” against the PDP’s “nay.”

President cannot be summoned —Senate
Earlier, in his motion, Senator Barau regretted that Nigerians were going through untold hardship following the lingering fuel problem.

“We are worried that the scarcity is creating an untold hardship to our citizens who have to pay higher prices for these products especially petrol. We are convinced that the current situation is not in tune with the desire of the progressively inclined government to bring succour to Nigerians in all spheres of their lives,” Senator Jibrin noted.

But at a briefing after the plenary session, Chairman, Senate Committee on Media and Publicity, Aliyu Sabi, explained why President Buhari could not be summoned by the Senate.

He said as the Commander-in-Chief, it was wrong to invite him to appear before the Senate, despite the fact that he was the Minister of Petroleum.

Senator Sabi said in the place of President Buhari, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu would be summoned to brief the Senate on plans put in place by the Federal Government to end the fuel scarcity.

Senator Gbenga Ashafa, APC, Lagos East, while also contributing, called for the approval of the supplementary budget which he noted, contained the amount proposed for payment of subsidy to the marketers. He pleaded that the issue be treated with uttermost urgency.

We must reconsider PIB to stop scarcity —Saraki
Meanwhile, Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, said the Senate must take the issue of passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) seriously if scarcity of petroleum products would end in the country.

Saraki stated this while commenting on a motion seeking permanent solution to recurring scarcity of petroleum products in the country at Senate plenary.

He said with a law regulating the petroleum industry, relevant institutions would function effectively and urged senators not to politicize issues relating to petroleum products production and supply as they affected the live of every Nigerian.

“Scarcity has continued to plague this country and we must find a lasting solution to this problem,” he said.

After debate on the motion moved by Sen. Barau Jibrin (APC Kano North), the senate directed its Committee on Petroleum Upstream to proffer a lasting solution to the recurring problem of scarcity of petroleum products.

The upper chamber sought means of collaboration with the executive to end the recurring fuel supply challenge.

It urged the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to continue its current push to stem the scarcity, and commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his commitment in tackling issues in the sector.

Moving the motion earlier, Jibrin expressed worry that scarcity, whenever it occurred, brought untold hardship on Nigerians.

He said that problem was not in line with the goals of the current administration and as such, urged the senate to liaise with the executive and other relevant stakeholders to solve the problem.

In his contribution, Sen. Olugbenga Ashafa (APC Lagos East) recommended stringent punishment, including jail term for marketers who hoard petroleum products.

He said that such marketers contributed in making the lives of Nigerians more miserable, adding that their stations should not just be shut ‘’but they should be jailed”.

“Some marketers derive pleasure in hoarding petroleum products; if we do not set example with such people, the dastardly acts of hoarding will continue.

“Our regulators must ensure that marketers that are hoarding are not just clamped down on but prosecuted.

“We must assist Mr President in reviving our ailing refineries; if our refineries function optimally, we will not have the problem of scarcity,” he said.

On his part, Sen. Eyinnaya Abaribe, specifically said that the “senior” minister of petroleum resources should be summoned to explain the problems with fuel supply.

The senator questioned why the country still paid subsidies and experienced long queues when the present administration had in their campaign promised to end the problem.

“Many thought there will be no fuel queues under the APC but we see it everywhere; we are seeking the approval of over N400billion for payment of subsidy.

“Change has come but there is no change because we are still doing the same things; the fuel queues are still here; the subsidy payment is still there and there is no hope in sight.

“So we are asking, where is this change?

“We will ask the Minister of Petroleum to come and tell this senate what the ministry is doing to solve this problem.

“I support this motion, but I do not support the part where we are thanking a minister for not solving the problem,” he said.

Sen. Adamu Aliero (APC Kebbi Central) said that the issue of deregulation must be revisited if private investors must delve into local refining of crude.

Sen. Dino Melaye (APC Kogi West) in his contribution recalled that the cost of crude has dropped from about 120 dollars per barrel to about 40 dollars per barrel.

He pointed out that the subsidy being paid was what was owed to oil marketers, and urged that the issues should not be politicized.

In the meantime, the North East Development Commission Bill sponsored by Sen. Ali Ndume and Frivolous Petition Prohibition Bill sponsored by Sen. Ibn Na’Allah passed first reading at the Senate on Tuesday.

Also passed for first reading was the National Youth Service Corps (amendment) Bill, 2015 sponsored by Sen Stella Odua (Anambra North).

It should remain fixed until there is economically viable diversification strategy.
What does fixed Naira mean to the man with five children and no job?
What does a fixed Naira contribute to a farmer that needs fertilizers and implement, most of which are imported?
How does fixing Naira help the importation cost of critical raw materials for ailing industries?
Are you aware that some of the economic indices have gone SOUTHWARDS due to these archaic policies?
Have you quantified the implecation of importing refined products as we fixed our Naira?

The anticipated zero "tagged" budgeting is a modernization of ACN's microeconomic engineering and manipulations meant to rewrite achievements and wow the gullible for which 40% performance is commendable (a case study of Osun State government under Aregbesola) or at best 79% (a miraculous performance of Lagos State Government under Fashola).

The system they want to adopt is meant to subvert accountability and probity in order to indulge into administrative rascality and over spending non budgeted funds (a case study of Stella Oduah, the former aviation minister)

This is the most secretive system of spending public funds akin to what we have over the years in NNPC (the most secretive and corrupt agency of Nigerian government and the worst of any government in Africa).

Our government is not yet matured for this abracadabra system of budgeting and more also with a party that detest transparency and wishes to consolidate on power using every illegal means possible including denials, advance lies and propagandas.
Zero based budgeting is used by most private sector organisations. Not rocket science. All it says is you are not looking at your spend last year, but justify your current plan. In order words, every Naira receipts and payment are justified. My problem with APC is that the Revenue sources are not clear. Rising from N4.4T to N8T as is being speculated is not realistic. Except they plan to borrow as they have done in Lagos and other States. That would put Nigeria in perpetual debt as no one will be ready to forgive us again. It could then mean heading to GREECE,

No parking, please: Car lands on roof after driver loses control on Michigan highway
WOODHULL TOWNSHIP, Mich. - When Joyce Kingsley heard "kaboom" while at her Michigan home, she immediately thought about extreme weather.

The 83-year-old needed to look up: A Ford Mustang was parked on the roof of her home after the driver had a medical problem Monday and lost control on a highway in Shiawassee County.

Kingsley's home about 20 miles (30 kilometres) northeast of Lansing is built next to a hill, and the roof is nearly level with the ground, The Argus-Press of Owosso reported.

"I was just watching TV inside. I had it up pretty loud — but this was much louder," Kingsley said.

State police said the Mustang went through several bushes, trees and a fence before stopping on the roof. The driver was treated for low blood sugar but wasn't hurt.

"The driver is extremely lucky," Trooper Ben Rowell said.

Kingsley plans to put a tarp over the damaged roof until it can be fixed.

"It could've been a lot worse," she said. "I'm glad everyone is all right."

Politics › Re: Nigeria Revenues Seriously Dropping Under President BUHARI, Why? by Validated: 11:28am On Oct 30, 2015
Adminisher:
OP, it is not easy to be a PDP supporter. The brains are usually not there when you are young supporters of PDP.
Let me explain things to you slowly. Jonathan was selling oil at $100 a barrel for six years. During this time corruption was very high and he never thought about the future. He never thought about the youths.
Nigeria did not build new refineries, new power plants, new petrochemicals, no steel plants.. nothing. Even the Brass LNG that he told Amechi was the reason for not doing another train of LNG was not done. Brass LNG would have boosted Bayelsa. Let us be honest , the man was "short one"
Now let us expand the context;
1. Saudi Arabia - serious cash flow problems because of low oil price which they caused to destroy Iran. Saudi Arabia is actually one of the cleverest OPEC members they and Dubai and Qatar have billions invested in refineries and Petrochemicals and power plants. Yet they are having serious cash crunch.
2. Venezuela: Things are so bad this country is already digging into gold reserves to finance it's imports. They have run out of foreign currency reserves they are now selling gold.
3. Iran: Iran is having serious problems in spite of their military mis adventures. To tell you how serious, young Iranians went into the streets dancing when the deal with US was signed. They have agreed to stop nuclear weapons for $100bn dollars US money to develop theiron damaged oil industry.
When we say Jonathan's government was very bad we have facts figures and even more information. It was a highly corrupt government led by a very weak man without strong core values.
It will take at least two years to undo the damage of d8x years that PDP has done but the only way out is to go back to basics of no tolerance for corruption.
The problem of Nigeri a and Nigerians is INSINCERITY. Just read yourself again and ponder on your write-up here. Jonathan and Okonjo-Iweala in their wisdom set up the Sovereign Wealth Fund (SWF). The fund was to hold part of the excess crude receipts against the "rainy day". Your leaders now - Amaechi, Fashola, Oshomole and Fayemi went to court to challenge the decision. The case got as far as they wanted. At the end the funds were shared. I attended ICAN conference in 2010 where the four of them were invited by the then ICAN president (Owoyeni from Osun State) to deride the decision on SWF. Infact, Amaechi said "the windfall is for my generation and we must spend it. Let the future generation make their own money and spend it". I wish I could lay my hands on the CD, I would have shared it.

Even if you hate Jonathan, you would not be so blind not to realise that Nigeria is currently on back-pedal. For 6 months this government appears directionless. As far as I am concerned, the only policy decision by Buhari in 6 months was to relocate military high command to Maiduguri. Even at that, nothing has been achieved. Just checklist:

No electricity
No water
No food
No jobs
No fuel
No security
No healthcare
No or very late salaries
No import or export
No budget or template as of today, ending of October 2015
No ministers
No raw materials while industries are closing down
Democracy and rule of law is jaundiced
No FDI while the existing ones are running away

What is the essence of governance? Is it to make noise and hound opposition? If all you see now is to blame Jonathan, then you are a hypocrite. APC should wake up and provide dividend of democracy.

Yes PDP ruled for 16 years, they did not blame their failure on the military that ruled for 17 years before them. Moreover, most of the gladiators of PDP then like (Audu Ogbe and Gemade were PDP chairmen, Amaechi, Bokola, Kwankwaso, George Akume, Wammako, Sylva and were all PDP governors for 8 years, Obasanjo was PDP president for 8 years, Dogara, Ndume, Milaye, Masari and Tambulwa, (former PDP Speakers), Elrufai, Okorocha, etal were all PDP legislators or chieftains before they became "saints" in APC.
