there is this story in the bible.
someone went to hire some laborers. the first set started work 6 am, second set started work 12pm and third set started work 3pm. all closed work 6pm and were paid the same amount. is that fair.

sometimes life is not fair. some get what they dont deserve. u may call it grace or favor or whatever.

That's selfishness. they don't want to die. when are they going to pray against the corruption and wasteful spending that is killing millions of nigerians.

well, my church- First Baptist Church, Umuahia is quite different. not less than 5 youths are currently sponsored to acquire skills in fashion design, tiles fixing, computer repairs and basic computer training by a member of the church. but the majority of other churches have failed woefully in this fundamental responsibility.
and until pple speak out against this nothing will change.

and btw individuals in the church must not wait for the church pastor b4 the sponsor the youth because the pastor is more interested in spending money on building more beautiful edifice and other matters.

maybe this NAUG pple should put this matter in their agenda

Miss EZ: Haha...well i am a practicing Christian so i am not in support of abandoning skydaddy as you put it. But the bible is clear that faith without works is dead. As Nigerians, we can pray all we want, but if we do not begin to actively partake in the reformation process, nothing will happen.

Nigerians have the "leave it to God" mentality. A belief in God does not automatically mean failure to take action. I look forward to seeing every citizen, especially the youths who are greatly affected by the state of the country join hands to be a part of the solution. It is highly debatable that such will happen.

It is a fact that man should no should not shift all responsibilities to God in the name of prayer, faith, seed sowing etc. but take actions to improve his life.

i doubt if Aliko Dangote's success in business has as much to do with prayer as it has to do with making decisions to take profitable actions. he is not even a christian. so which God is blessing him? yet today he has more useful influence on the society than 1000's of the so-called men of God.

yet, prayer is very important. God is in charge of this our universe and it amounts to waste of time and energy to work against His will

so, how much to register a business name now?

Nigeria: Dangote Plans U.S.$34.7 Billion Fresh Investment In Economy

The President of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, has said that the Group is poised to make an additional investment totaling $US 34.7 billion in the economy by 2017.

He also said the cement arm of the group will commission an additional 10 million metric ton capacity in Nigeria by mid 2014 with an additional plan to also invest US $4.7 billion over the next four years in order to ensure that cement supply stays ahead of demand.

In a keynote address during the just ended Nigeria'53rd Independence Anniversary Lecture, organised by the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, LCCI, Dangote said, the Nigerian financial sector has demonstrated its ability to support big ticket industrial projects - the most recent being the US$9 billion refinery project by Dangote Group and is poised to invest $US 34.7 billion by 2017.

"Private sector participation is growing in areas such as fertilisers, petrochemicals, etc. "Indigenous entrepreneurs now dominate some sectors that were at inception controlled by foreign firms, federal and state government, namely, financial services, cement, petroleum marketing; the upstream oil & gas sector," he said

Continuing, he said: "Agriculture continued as the lifeblood of the economy (accounting for 65 percent of GDP and 70 percent of exports).

Cocoa, cotton, groundnuts, oil palm products, and rubber were the principal export crops in the 1960s (and early 1970s). Agriculture largely provided the foreign exchange that was utilised in importing raw materials, capital & consumer goods; as well as funding basic infrastructure needs. Food security was achieved - not just because peasant farmers were able to produced enough to feed the entire population (but also because Nigerians had not yet developed the palate to consume what they did not produce."

Dangote said in setting an agenda for the next decade, government should improve the business climate and continuously benchmark our business environment against "best-in-class" investment destinations, implement the recently unveiled Nigeria Industrial Revolution Plan, support the new investors in the power sector to ensure they "hit the ground running" and provide the kind of outcomes Nigerians desire.

He said their investment in agriculture is driven by our desire to create jobs for thousands of Nigerians and that It will increase their workforce from its present level of 26,000 employees to 750,000 employees .

Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa State has said nobody is stopping President Goodluck Jonathan from contesting for the presidential election in 2015.

Lamido made the assertion when his colleagues, former members of the House of Representatives, who served the nation in 1979, paid him a courtesy visit in his office Monday.

According to the governor, "No one is stopping him from contesting. Jonathan is free to contest in 2015 but the process must be very transparent, it must be credible so that by the time we are through, it can be owned by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)."

He said there were two issues at stake, one was the PDP government of Nigeria and the second was the PDP as a party.

In his words: "As far as the federal government is concerned, under the presidency of Jonathan, the government is a PDP government, and we are ready to defend it no matter what because it is a government we elected to last between May 2011 and May 2015."

The governor pointed out that "between that time span it is our government, therefore, we will stand by our president, we will defend his policies to secure him from opponents who will like to cheapen our own government."

He said the "governors are going to stand by the government to remain solid till May 28, specifically 2015 at midnight when the tenure expires."

The governor said for that reason, the "government of the PDP is their own government and the president of Nigeria is our own president," adding that the members of the party would defend him till the end of his tenure and that is guaranteed.

"But the political party called PDP is our main concern because they say Soja go, Soja come, president come, president go. Obasanjo came under PDP, Yar'Adua came under PDP, Jonathan came under PDP, and therefore more will come under PDP in the next one million years.

"So, our worry is the party, the PDP. It is purely a PDP affair. It is not a Nigerian affair because there are about 60 political parties in the country.

"In our own party, we feel there are a number of things going wrong and because we are the major party that formed the government we must have what is called due process, rule of law, transparency and integrity," he said.

Just to mention but a few, and these are some of the factors that help a people to develop.

pro01: Well, I think university education is somewhat overrated, especially in a country like nigeria where most lecturers cannot tell left from right. This why I scoff at these clowns that call themselves ASUU. They have a ridiculously overbloated sense of their own importance. Holding Nigerians to ransom and demanding billions and billions for doing what exactly?

I don't remember learning much from my lecturers per se during my university days. Most of them spent half the time lamenting everything lamentable and the other half clowning about and discussing trivial issues irrelevant to the subject at hand. Much of the actual academic content I learnt (and know to this day) was self-taught - largely courtesy of the internet. Indeed, with benefit of hindsight, it is clear to me that one could easily have learnt all there is to learn about virtually any academic subject taught in the university without any input by any lecturer - thanks to the all-knowing internet. Practical knowledge can also be acquired by hands-on application and repetition - outside the Four Walls of higher institution classrooms - as demonstrated daily by our mechanics, construction workers, electricians, plumbers, and other skilled but non-certified 'professionals'.

On the other hand, I think primary and secondary school teachers (NUT) are underpaid and grossly under-appreciated. Theirs' is the most important work of all. Once one receives effective formal education grounding at the primary and secondary levels, then the rest is a matter of orientation, aptitude, attitude, and fortitude. . . .all of which have little to do with higher institution certification.

Naturally, the 'ONLY' way to curb this filth is by forming national unions devoid of tribal affilliations. All union must be national, no state unions. Look at what the carnegies did in The American Steel. The Truck Drivers Union, the film makers union, the estate and biulders union,the crop farmers union,electrical engineers union, mechanical engineers union, computer engineers union etc. All these unions must be formed and headed by graduates in the relevant fields with the ability to issue certificates for each project to be carried out by these illiterats. These unions will be completely different from what the government runs, they will be answerable to graduates assigned to them as supervisors and shall have a minimum pay nation wide for these supervisors.. The UN Security Council unanimously passed a landmark resolution Friday ordering the destruction of Syria's chemical weapons and condemning a murderous poison gas attack in Damascus.

The major powers overcame a prolonged deadlock to approve the first council resolution
on the conflict, which is now 30 months old with more than 100,000 dead.

UN leader Ban Ki-moon, who called the resolution "the first hopeful news on Syria in a long time," said he hopes to convene a peace conference in mid-November.

Resolution 2118, the result of bruising negotiations between the United States and Russia, gives international binding force to a plan drawn up by the two to eliminate President Bashar al-Assad's chemical arms.

The plan calls for Syria's estimated 1,000 tonnes of chemical weapons to be put under international control by mid-2014.

International experts are expected to start work in Syria to meet the tight deadline next week. Britain and China offered to finance to the disarmament operation.

"Should the regime fail to act, there will be consequences," US Secretary of State John Kerry warned the 15-member council after the vote sealing a US-Russian agreement.

But Kerry hailed the resolution.

"The Security Council has shown that when we put aside politics for the common good, we are still capable of doing big things," he said.

Human Rights Watch however was not impressed with the deal.

"This resolution fails to ensure justice for the gassing of hundreds of children and many other grave crimes," said the watchdog's UN director, Philippe Bolopion.

Efforts to destroy Syria's chemical weapons "do not address the reality that conventional weapons have killed the overwhelming majority of the estimated 100,000 people who have died in the conflict," Bolopion said.

"If the killing of civilians by conventional weapons continues unabated, the chemical weapons resolution will be remembered as an effort to draw red lines, not save civilian lives," he said.

Bolopion renewed HRW's call for the UN to "refer the situation in Syria to the International Criminal Court (ICC), and adopt targeted sanctions against those responsible for mass killings."


No automatic punitive measures
Russia, Assad's main ally, has rejected any suggestion of sanctions or military force against Assad. It has already used its veto power as a permanent Security Council member to block three Western-drafted resolutions on Syria.

There are no immediate sanctions over a chemical weapons attack, but the resolution allows for a new vote on possible measures if the Russia-US plan is breached.

Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov said that the council would take "actions which are commensurate with the violations, which will have to be proven 100 percent."

The resolution also applies to the Syrian opposition, Lavrov said.

The resolution "condemns in the strongest terms any use of chemical weapons in the Syrian Arab Republic, in particular the attack on August 21, 2013, in violation of international law."

Washington has blamed Assad's government for that sarin gas assault on the Damascus suburb of Ghouta that US officials say killed more than 1,400 dead, and threatened a military strike over the attack.

Syria has denied responsibility.

Syria attacks must be 'accountable'

Should Syria not comply with the resolution, the Security Council agreed to "impose measures under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter."

The charter can authorize the use of sanctions or military force, but new action would require a new vote, said Russia would likely oppose any use of force against its ally.

Russia also rebuffed calls by Britain and France for the Ghouta attack to be referred to the International Criminal Court.

The resolution expressed "strong conviction" that those responsible for chemical weapons attacks in Syria "should be held accountable."

It formally endorsed a decision taken hours earlier in The Hague by the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) to accept the Russia-US disarmament plan.

Ban said the resolution "will ensure that the elimination of the Syrian chemical weapons program happens as soon as possible and with the utmost transparency and accountability."

Ban also told the Security Council he wanted to hold a new Syria peace conference in mid-November, and said that the foreign ministers from Britain, China, France, Russia and the United States agreed to make sure that each side negotiate in "good faith."

A first peace conference was held in June 2012 but splits in the Syrian opposition and the international community have thwarted a follow-up.

Ban will start contacts with his Syria peace envoy Lakhdar Brahimi next week on setting the firm date and who will attend the new meeting, diplomats said.

He also noted that the resolution was not "a license to kill" with conventional arms.

"A red light for one for one form of weapons does not mean a green light for others," Ban said.

The Security Council resolution gave backing to the 2012 conference declaration, which stated that there should be a transitional government in Syria with full executive powers.

It also determined that the new peace conference would be to decide how to implement the accord.

British Foreign Secretary William Hague said after the resolution was adopted that the international community must step up efforts to help those caught up in a humanitarian crisis.

In Brussels, European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton said the resolution represented "a major step towards a sustainable and unified international response" to the Syrian crisis.

"This decision should pave the way to the elimination of chemical weapons in Syria, and set a standard for the international community in responding to threats posed by weapons of mass destruction," Ashton said.

The EU would provide "forceful" support in the case of non-compliance, Ashton said in a statement.

Meanwhile in Syria, a car bomb north of Damascus detonated Friday, killing at least 30 people. Eleven more deaths were reported in a government air raid, highlighting the continued slaughter in Syria's long-running civil war.
