More Highliths On Throwback ....

ENYIMBA AUTOMATED SHOE COMPANY LIMITED: EQUIPMENT INSTALLATION COMMENCES

It will be recalled that upon assumption of office as Governor of Abia State in 2015, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu took up the challenge of projecting the ingenuity of the Aba shoe and garment producers by launching a massive Made in Aba Campaign.

The Governor personally led the campaign and showed great examples by wearing only articles of clothing produced in Aba from inception of his administration till date.

In the course of promoting the campaign, it was observed that Aba Producers could not expeditiously handle large shoe supply orders due to the absence of automation in the shoe production process. All processes were manually-driven which leads to delays and inconsistent batch production.

The Governor took it upon himself to solve this problem by setting about ensuring that large-scale shoe production equipments are installed in Aba.

The first step in the process of automating shoe production in Aba was capacity building which saw the Governor sponsor 30 Aba Shoemakers to China to be embedded in a shoe factory for one month and learn machine-based production.

After the return of the China trainees, the Governor placed an order for the full range of shoe production machines that the Aba Shoemakers used in China. The machines have since arrived Aba.

Contemporaneous with the placement of the order for the automated shoemaking machines, the Governor also directed the building of a special purpose shoe factory where the machines will be installed. The factory is also ready.

The Engineers from the company in China that supplied the machines have arrived Aba from China and today, Tuesday, November 26, 2019, the Governor has handed the machines over to them to go and commence the installation.

The 30 Shoemakers the Governor sent to China to learn the use of the machines are also on ground to work with the Engineers from China as they will form the nucleus of the workforce of the shoe factory upon commencement of production.

The installation process will take one month and the Chinese Engineers will be in Aba until installation is complete and production has begun in earnest. They will also ensure that the Aba Shoemakers fully understand the process before they return to China.

The dream of an automated shoe factory in Aba has come to fruition. Aba is now well placed to handle any quantity of orders for shoe production and they will deliver expeditiously and according to specification.

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu is a transgenerational leader as the effects and significance of this investment will last far beyond his administration. He does not just build. He builds to last.

Politics / Re: Senator Omo-Agege Introduces Bill To Amend Electoral Act by VanGap: 7:33am On Dec 10, 2019
CastedAyo:
Igbere TV reports that Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege says he has introduced a bill for comprehensive amendment of the Electoral Act No. 6 of 2010.

Omo-Agege revealed this on Monday at the Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room Stakeholders Forum on Elections organised by the coalition of more than 70 civil societies in Abuja.

He said the bill, co-sponsored with Senator Abubakar Kyari of Borno North Senatorial District, was now making its way to public hearing, having scaled second reading with overwhelming bipartisan support in the Senate.

“It is a decisive response to a plethora of our Supreme Court’s decision inviting the National Assembly to make sensible amendments to the Electoral Act,” he said.

“And I believe it is responsible for us to take the apex court’s constructive guidance on issues that fundamentally affect our democracy.

“This apart, Section 153 of the Electoral Act, 2010, as amended, specifically and expressly empowers INEC to issue regulations, guidelines, or manuals for the purpose of giving effects to the provisions of this Act and for its administration thereof.

“The pervasive non-compliance with the Guidelines, Regulations and Manuals, would carry clear consequences for people who think violating electoral due process is a rewarding exercise.

“The proposed Bill to amend the Electoral Act would focus on resolving issues surrounding INEC’s introduction of modern technologies into the electoral process, particularly accreditation of voters.”

Omo-Agege said that the bill would also mandate the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to publish the voters’ register for public scrutiny at every registration area and on its website, at least seven days before a general election.

According to him, it also mandates INEC to suspend an election in order to allow a political party that loses its candidate before or during an election to conduct a fresh primary to elect a replacement or new candidate.

He said the bill would grant agents of political parties the right to inspect original electoral materials before the commencement of election, define over-voting to include situations where “total votes cast also exceed total number of accredited voters’’.

INEC chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, was represented by the commission’s head of information and voter education, Festus Okoye.

Politics / Re: AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq: EFCC Saved Us From Inheriting Empty Treasury by VanGap: 7:29am On Dec 10, 2019
LocalChamp:
December 9, 2019
Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on Monday said he would have inherited an empty treasury if the account of the state government had not been frozen on the eve of his inauguration.

He recalled that only the N4.8bn tax refund seized by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission was inherited from the past administration.

“That N4.8bn is in our cash reserve. We have not touched it. It will be used to balance the budget for next year. It will be invested in our schools, road infrastructure, among others,” AbdulRazaq said at the International Anti Corruption Day Rally organised by the EFCC Ilorin Zonal Office in Ilorin, the state capital.

“We thank the Ilorin Zonal Office of EFCC for the recoveries they’ve made. When we came into power, there would have been nothing to inherit. The past government told us that they left a debt of N30bn but so far we are looking at the debt of almost N100bn.

“We don’t see this march as that of the law enforcement agency (alone). It is a march for everybody and the important message for all of us is, if we don’t kill corruption, it will kill all of us.”

AbdulRazaq said corruption is detrimental to socio-economic development of any society as it reduces government’s capacity to deliver on campaign promises.

“Corruption is killing us in our schools and hospitals; it hinders infrastructural development. It is therefore important that we work hand in hand with the anti-corruption agencies and be part of the processes to develop our society,” he said.

AbdulRazaq also thanked the EFCC for the recent recovery of N111m from some past government officials.

He also said whatever recoveries made from the ongoing probe of the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KW-IRS) would be invested to secure the future of Kwarans, especially through the upcoming Social Investment Programme, assuring the anti-graft body of maximum support for its operations in the state.

AbdulRazaq urged Kwarans to continue to support the anti-corruption drive of the Muhammadu Buhari administration as part of the overall strategy to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Zonal Head of EFCC in Ilorin Isyaku Sharu said the body has recovered over 10 properties and cash worth over N3.6bn from “treasury looters” in Kwara State since February when it began operation in the state.

“These properties include two in Ikoyi, one in Lekki and the recent one is over one billion naira worth houses in GRA, Ilorin,” according to Sharu.

“It is pertinent to know that at the eve of the last handover, the commission saved the Kwara State Government over N4bn of tax refund. Currently, ongoing investigation into the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service led to the recovery of about N50m while efforts are in top gear to recover the remaining of about N4bn from some notable individuals fingered in the KWIRS saga.”

Sharu said the rally was an advocacy to further create awareness for the world to unite against corruption.

Kwara State House of Assembly Speaker Salihu Yakubu Danladi commended the anti-graft body for its advocacy against corruption, adding: “It is important for all of us to partner with the EFCC to kill corruption and save our state and Nigeria in general.”

The rally was attended by hundreds of people, including top public servants like the Deputy Governor, Kayode Alabi; and the Secretary to the Kwara State Government, Professor Mamman Saba Jibri.

Makinde is one of the best governor from the south west.

He is highly transparent and administratively focus leader.

After his years as governor, I would want him to aspire more to the senatorial seat and the Presidential.

Makinde is the "Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi" of the south west.

Like governor Ugwuanyi, he is a very humble man.

His wife is from the Niger delta.

And Yesterday ......

I was honoured to deliver the Keynote Address at the 65th Anniversary Celebration of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ibadan Branch, this morning. I spoke on ‘Law, Probity and Good Governance: Practical Approach to Making Nigeria Greater.’

In my address, I stated that for Nigeria to be greater, state actors cannot act with impunity. And that we must understand that to build strong institutions and achieve good governance, everyone must act within the law and be accountable.

I noted that the checks and balances provided by the three arms of government; the Executive, Legislature and the Judiciary makes democracy the best form of government. I urged members of the NBA to protect the judiciary from interference.

I ended my address by reiterating the important role of the judiciary in the process of making Nigeria greater. And that, we have confidence in the judiciary as the last hope of the oppressed.

Politics / Re: Seyi Makinde: We Inherited An Almost Bankrupt State From Ajimobi by VanGap: 7:08am On Dec 10, 2019
osifoblessingme:
Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde has said his administration inherited an almost bankrupt State from his predecessor, Abiola Ajimobi.

He urged Nigerians to join hands with anti-corruption agencies to fight corruption and stamp it out of the country, stressing that without eradicating corruption, no Nigerian citizen could experience dividend of democracy.

Makinde stated this on Monday in Ibadan during a rally organised by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibadan Zonal Office to commemoration the International Anti-Corruption Day themed, “Zero Tolerance to Corruption”.

The Governor, who pledged his support to EFCC in fighting corruption in Nigeria to a standstill, said that he inherited an almost bankrupt state due to the poor management of the state’s resources by his predecessor, pointing out, “Oyo State was almost bankrupt when we took over”.

According to him, with corruption ravaging the country, it may be difficult for the good old days to come.

“Do you know what corruption can do to you? Do you know what corruption can do to a nation? If you want free health system, free education, good road and infrastructural development, then fight corruption and kill it. Let me tell you, we have been able to achieve something because we are not corrupt.

“If we are corrupt, we cannot do what we are doing right now. If you see anybody engaging in corruption, expose such. My government will fight corruption down to the local level. We will tackle corruption even at the grassroots level”, he added.

He stated further, “Oyo State is happy to join EFCC to fight corruption. We are the first state in Nigeria to domesticate anti-graft law. We will ensure that whatever we do during this administration, we do it right”.

Earlier, the Zonal Head, EFCC, Ibadan, Mr Friday Ebelo, who sought collaboration with the state government to fight corruption, stated that in 2019, the commission in Ibadan secured convictions for 171 out of the 268 prosecuted for financial crimes.

He said, “Our investigations also led to temporary fixing of 1044 bank accounts, while 56 automobiles and 14 houses were impounded. We equally have several laptops, android phones and many other electronic devices confiscated in compliance with court orders. In the period under review, the zone also recovered on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria huge sums of money in both local and foreign currencies. These include a total of N211, 134,927.26. For the foreign currencies, we had $136,289 and €2000 and £765”.

By appointing Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi as chairman of the so-called Council of Chiefs, the governor is playing foul as he is waiting to see if Emir Sanusi will call for the inaugural meeting. By so doing, it means Emir Sanusi has accepted the new law establishing the new Emirates and if Emir Sanusi refuses to accept the chairmanship and do not call for the inaugural meeting, the governor will query him and institute a disciplinary case against him.
