"The group urged the Federal Government to take the matter before the international community to compel world leaders to always beef up security around Nigerian leaders on foreign trips."

This statement from the concerned youths really got me laughing. They are submerged in Illusions of Nigeria not knowing the outer world has left them behind.

Germany clearly stated that IPOB violated no rules and didn't bow to Nigeria govt. None of these countries regards Nigeria as an entity.

Nigeria Government already knows that they will be heavily Ignored if they try such plea.

toyosilawal12:
Fatai Ganiyu Abass was more than self-sufficient, practising as an auto-electrician and moonlighting as a Fuji musician. The future looked rosy for him until tragedy struck a couple of years back.

He developed problems with his eyes and eventually lost sight in both eyes. His world seemed to fall apart. Without his eyes, his means of livelihood literally dissolved like ice cubes in the sun. He could only move around with the assistance of his 10-year old son, Abdulateef. The job of fending for the family fell on the laps of his wife, a petty trader.

According to Abass, depression was setting in, but he kept consoling himself that things would take another turn for the better for him.

Sure enough, one day, he was sitting in his house when he received a call from Globacom customer care representatives informing him that he had won a grinding mill in the ongoing Glo Recharge and Win Big Promo also called My Own Don Beta.

He initially thought it was a prank or a case of wrong number. But when he showed up at Glo Office in Jos and the news was confirmed to him, he regained his old effervescent self.

“I have got a new lease of life. With this grinding mill that Globacom has given me, my family has a new stream of income. My wife will add it to her petty trading. At the very least the cost of buying drugs for my eye condition will be taken care of,” he said.

At the prize handover ceremony to prize winners in Toro community, Bauchi State on Friday, a grateful Abass rendered a Fuji song he composed to show gratitude to Globacom for a gift that he said would transform his family.

At the ceremony, graced by the traditional chief of the region, Hardon Toro, Alhaji Mohammed Inuwa, Nollywood comic, Saeed Mohammed and other dignitaries, five other winners were given their prizes.

Thairu Abubakar, a business man and Onyekwelu Chinenye Doris, a UNN Accountancy graduate received a tricycle each. Fatima Kabir a Youth Corper and her husband, Murtala Kabir, showed up to collect an industrial sewing machine, which the wife said she would use to further her ambition to sow wedding gowns.

Abdusalam Musa Mamman also collected a grinding mill, while Abdulfatai Shittu, collected an electricity generator at the community presentation at Toro, Bauchi State on Friday.

Some 50 winners had been presented their prizes at the Jos Terminus Market the previous Monday. In all, over 700 winners had won tricycles, industrial sewing machines, grinding mills and generators. Globacom subscribers need to recharge their lines with a minimum of N200 to stand a chance of winning a prize in the promo.

TravelRe: FRSC To Introduce N50,000 Fine For Traffic Light Violators In 2020 by VanSARS: 6:27pm On Dec 07, 2019
joshcaleb200:
The Corps Marshal of Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Dr Boboye Oyeyemi has said that traffic light violations by motorists will attract a fine of N50,000 beginning from next year, lamenting that the offence was taking a worrisome dimension.

Dr. Oyeyemi, who disclosed this while speaking at the first ‘ember month stakeholders forum’ organised by the FRSC in collaboration with the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, in Abuja, said he had proposed to the Joint Tax Board that the traffic light violation fine should be increased from N4,000 to N50,000 to deter erring motorists.

The Corps Marshal vowed that his men would continue to arrest and sanction motorists using phones while driving.

He explained that drivers were free to use google map but said the phone should be placed on the dashboard with both hands on the steering wheel.

According to him, “You can’t hold the phone with one hand and drive with the other while using google map. That is distracted driving and the law is clear on that. When you stop people for traffic violations, their lawyers would write to you and threaten to sue.

“FRSC has 120 lawyers and I would recruit more next year; The level of violent reactions in this country is alarming.”

“We have noticed the rising incidents of traffic light violations and so, we are going to increase the minimum fine to N50,000 from N4,000. Offenders would also undergo an emotional psychological test at the hospital to determine if you are fit to drive.”

Oyeyemi, condemned in strong term a situation where people would veer their anger on officers of the FRSC and personnel of other paramilitary agencies and violently attacked them.

In his remarks, Chief Executive Officer, FCCPC, Babatunde Irukera, said his agency would ensure that fleet owners in the country took passenger insurance to better protect their customers during trips.

Irukera also revealed that the commission would also roll out a policy on ageing vehicles owned by fleet firms, noting that” prioritising protection of people will not be negotiated.”

According to him, “We succeeded in putting outpatients bill of rights last year; we will insist that the vehicles be in good condition and operate in a good and safe manner”.

Governor Akeredolu, who announced the immediate employment while delivering his address on the occasion of the 9th Convocation ceremony of the AAUA on Friday, said the best graduating student deserves to work in the institution to enable him contribute his knowledge to the growth of the school.

Arakunrin Akeredolu, who noted that the state manages three Universities and a Polytechnic, assures that his administration will continue to exert necessary efforts to sustain the tempo of development in all the State-owned citadels of learning.

He said despite stiff competing demands, his administration has ensured prompt release of subventions in order not to jeopardise the delicate balance of running a modern university.

The Governor also disclosed that his administration has also done its best to grow the physical infrastructure in all the state-owned institutions.

He said: ”As part of our administration’s understanding of the running of a 21st century-compliant university, we have continued to give the management of all state-institutions the free hand needed to run their affairs.

“Plans are on to ensure that we leverage the research efforts of academics across our institutions while also not failing to tap from their wealth of experience and research when occasions demand.

“Our educational policy thrust is clear, to make our institutions of higher learning independent and well-funded with a view of making tools of positive changes in the society.”

The Governor noted that with the 20th year of the existence of the university, it has continued to do exceptionally well nationally and globally despite its young age.

"Within such a relatively young age, the university has consistently emerged as the Best State-owned University in Nigeria, and it is currently ranked the ninth best out of the about 160 universities in the country,” the Governor said.

CrimeRe: Awuzie Duru: Policeman Shoots Boy Dead For Retaliating After He Slapped Him by VanSARS: 6:23pm On Dec 07, 2019
oshozondii:
Tension has now enveloped the people of Njaba local government area, following the gruesome murder of an 18-year-old boy, Awuzie Duru by a trigger happy police officer.

The incident, which happened inside the premises of a new generation bank branch at Umuaka, saw the policeman shooting the boy for retaliating a slap from the policeman, whose identity could not be ascertained.

https://tan.org.ng/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/Top-Naija-Songs.jpg https://tan.org.ng/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/New-Naija-Songs.jpg
It was gathered that the incident occurred on Sunday, December 1, when Awuzie (aka Aboy), who hailed from Isiozi Aka in the town, had gone to the bank to withdraw money from the bank’s ATM gallery.

One of the villagers, who witnessed the killing, told The Nation that when Awuzie joined the ATM line, other persons joined the queue behind him.

“They were on the queue when his (Awuzie’s) phone rang, he stepped out of the line to answer the call. When he came back the other person behind him took his position on the queue and tried to stop him from joining the queue again.

“This action was happening in the presence of this killer policeman and caused hot exchange of words between Awuzie and the guy that took his position on the queue while the policeman was there watching.

“The exchange of words between the two degenerated to fighting and in the process, the policeman who has been watching the scene came and started scolding Awuzie who was trying to maintain his position after answering his call.

“The boy told him, ‘you were here watching while we were exchanging words. Why scolding me now it has led to fighting?’ The policeman slapped him and the boy retaliated. In the process, the policeman cocked his gun and shot the boy, who died instantly”

The death of the boy, it was gathered, has stirred up tension in the town as the youths in the area are said to be planning an attack on the police station.

According to village sources, the youths had mobilised to attack the police station when some elders appealed to them to allow the police hierarchy handle the matter.

An elder in the area said: “I can tell you that the boys were not happy with the matter is that policeman killed the boy over an altercation. So, they had mobilised to burn down the station to show their anger and loss.

“But, some of us had to intervene because this kind of thing has happened here before about 15 years ago when some policemen caused the death of some people in Umuaka here and our youths burned down the police station. So we don’t want this kind of thing to happen anymore.

“Some of them are still planning to launch an attack but we’re still appealing to them”.

The state police commissioner, Rabiu Ladodo confirmed the incident, saying the command was doing everything possible to contain any further crisis that might arise from the incident.

Ladodo, who disclosed that the killer policeman had been arrested, said appropriate punishment would be meted out to him if he was found guilty.

The CP said “Yes, I’m aware that the youths mobilised to the police station, but I told my men that we must handle the matter community policing and professionally too. That’s why when the villagers came, we allowed them to express their grievance and we addressed the matter. We were very professional in handling the matter”.

https://headlinenews365.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Screenshot_20191101-161503.png

Anytime you visit a police station in Nigeria, you're most certainly drawn to an inscription boldly pasted on their walls that "The police is your friend". But the weight of that inscription is mostly thrown in serious doubt by the conduct of personnel of the force.

The sight of security agents, anywhere, should bring comfort and a high sense of safety for citizens but in Nigeria, the scenario is different. The impunity of men in uniform has stirred so much distrust in the minds of citizens, that the average citizen has serious doubt if the police exist for their safety. Whether on the road or elsewhere, the police are becoming dreaded by citizens, who have seen those who should protect them turnaround to be their tormentor.

That is something that has been going on for some time now and public outcry has received little or no attention from the authority. Last year, the brazen abuse of privilege and unethical conduct of some Policemen ignited calls from Nigerians that the Nigerian force should be reformed to restore the lost confidence of the public.

It got more intense early this year when men of Special Anti-Robbery Squad, infamously known as SARS, riddled the body of an armless citizen, Johnson Kolade, with bullets and ended the life of the promising young man. That incident worried almost every Nigerian and I recalled penning an article where I joined calls to #EndSARS 'for all of us to be safe'.

But here we're today and nothing seems to have changed. Wednesday, December 4th, 2019 was yet another show of impunity by men in uniform, who not only failed in their duties to keep citizens safe but abducted me and several other Nigerians without any justification.

With the abduction and infringement of our fundamental human rights, policemen who unjustifiably harassed us and hounded us in detentions without probable cause demonstrated a new low in the depravity of the attacks on citizens. That was one of the most terrifying moments of my life as I was left stupefied that people who are paid to keep us safe turned themselves into vicious elements.

Before my unpalatable experience, I've heard stories of Nigerians unlawfully picked on the streets, beaten and extorted or maimed by the Nigerian police. On the spurious excuses of fighting crimes, police officers swoop on citizens and subject them to unwarranted assaults just in their usual practice of extorting them. That was exactly what transpired last Wednesday when police officer abducted me and colleagues without probable cause.

As usual, they refused any sensible explanation and even turndown several attempts to present our identity cards. They moved from street to street and round up anyone in their sight when there was no reason to suggest any wrongdoing. It was the most despicable thing I've ever experienced and it became so apparent that the impunity and uncanny attitude of the police have reached its peak.

Right in a Black Maria, I could count not less than 25 people who were in the same ordeal as me and my colleagues. It was a rough experience and one that I would never have thought would come from the police. This shocked me very much as I was vibrating right in the vehicle and when we finally got to the Lagos Task Force, it dawned on me that this was recklessness taken too far.

From the ludicrous claim that we were "miscreants" as justification for abduction to the terrible condition of the cell we were forced to pass the night, it was clear that Police isn't our friend. The maltreatment we suffered for doing nothing has once again brought to the burner the disturbing trend of impunity by police officers.

That police officers 'raid' streets for law-abiding citizens and hauled them in detentions when no crime was committed is something that should worry Nigerians. Quite disturbing that rather than securing Nigerians, the impunity usually displayed by policemen has posed them as the dangerous evil they are initially meant to curb.

It also makes clear that the authorities have failed to end impunity in the police force despite public outcry. This year alone, incidents of police harassment and brutality of citizens are too numerous to mention and more of such may still be happening as you read this. Yet, there has been little or no reprimand to serve as deterrence.

While it is an accepted fact that the police can make arrests, the habit of using their force strength to oppress citizens without justification is an overreach that needs to be curbed. Brutality is a barbaric tactic that has no role in any civilized society and the Nigerian police should ease itself of people who went overboard in their unreasonable quest to extort Nigerians. The Constitution, which is the grundnorm of our society, very much confers on citizens, the freedom of movement and exercising such should not be a crime that put one in detention.

Understandably, my plight and those my colleagues suffered in the hand of policemen, had intensified calls to end impunity. That is the necessary thing considering that Nigerians could no longer rely on their tormentor for their safety. Security should be done with responsibility, not becoming the same threat the people are running away from. Even as I write, the fate of many Nigerians who are hounded in detention is still unknown. We must end the impunity with the Police before it is too late.

Rochas Okorocha, the Imo West Senator has declared that the South East alone can’t make themselves President in 2023.

The Senator disclosed this while addressing newsmen on Wednesday, in Abuja.

Okorocha reiterated that the southeast needs the support of the North and other geopolitical regions to achieve its aim of producing Nigeria’s president in 2023. He stated that Nigeria needs a president who would continue with the efforts of uniting the country, create jobs and also guarantee security.

He said: “The Igbo alone cannot make themselves the president. The quicker they come together and start shoring up support from the North and other parts of the region the better it is to realise the dream.

“I know we shall come up to that point one day when who becomes the president would not be based on tribe or religion. For as long we keep promoting tribal and religious sentiments, we are not getting it right.”

Where was Wole Soyinka when Nnamdi Kanu and Sambo Dasuki's bail were ignored, where was he when Nnamdi Kanu's family house was being desecrated by the military?

Why is Soyinka even complaining against a government whose emergence he actively worked for?
The chicken has come home to roost and they've begun whipping up empathy.

I refuse to buy in and it is simple.
I won't weep for you when your house is on fire if you didn't weep for me when mine was.

No way,

Sowore should pay the price for inciting a revolution against the government of the day out of animosity for not making the ministerial list.
The APC made it clear that they were not going to run a Government of National Unity, so what is Sowere's grouse?

Is it also a coincidence that his call for revolution came after the ministerial list was released?
How come he didn't call for a revolution when the Python danced unchecked in the hinterlands of the SouthEast or speak up when innocent people were thrown into captivity without trial just for having a Biafran insignia on them?

We have better things like Allen Onyema and Air Peace to worry about and I find it rather paradoxical that our dear Professor has not made a comment on the ordeals of Allen Onyema.

Soyinka dines with the people he criticizes and laughs to their faces, accepts their awards and shows up for their invitations.
Visits their official residences and takes happy photographs with them. Worse even, he allows his children to serve under them.

Aside not being as literarily sound, this two-faced nature is one of the reasons he will never be half the man Chinua Achebe was.

Chinua Achebe made his stand on issues unequivocally clear without any hues of grey, he turned down National awards based on personal principles, he never fraternized with people he believed made the country worse off and most importantly, he spoke out irrespective of whose ox it was that was being gored.

Wole Soyinka may have the unmerited award, but Achebe is the laurel itself.

How can the same people who said they couldn't trust Nigeria in the hands of Atiku "the looter" and "Made in China" Obi now complain that Nigeria is finished under their Mr. Intergrity and his Professor of Law vice?

No way.
Lalasti.clala please tell them that we must get to our Next Level, nobody is jumping off this ship.

Wife of Omoyele Sowore, the convener of the RevolutionNow protest and publisher of Sahara Reporters, Mrs Ope Sowore, has sent a message to President Muhammadu Buhari that she and her children are waiting for the return of her husband.

She said she had no clear roadmap on how to handle the situation but that she had sent appeals to the United Nations and had been working with Amnesty International and many other organisations to help raise awareness and “hopefully help to secure the release” of her husband.

Speaking to PUNCH on the telephone on Friday, Sowore’s wife said, “I’m concerned about what happened to my husband. It’s less than 24 hours that the Nigerian government has basically turned around and shown a gross abuse of power. I am praying and hoping that it will be resolved so that he can come home to meet me and the children.

“No clear roadmap or script on how to handle a situation like this. The reason why there is rule of law is because it protects people’s basic rights and the fact that Buhari and the DSS have refused to do that is a matter of great concern.

“We are currently working with many international organisations to help advocate on his behalf and we have sent several urgent appeals to the United Nations.”

Sowore was arrested on August 3, 2019 over a planned protest, which he tagged ‘RevolutionNow’. The DSS accused him of planning to overthrow the government with his planned protest, the basis upon which he had been detained.

Officials of the Department of State Services had on Friday invaded the Federal High Court in Abuja to rearrest Sowore, who was released alongside his co-defendant, Olawale Bakare, on Thursday after they had spent over three months in the DSS custody.
