Nigerian fried rice is one of the most familiar ‘events-associated’ meal and carb as some people eat rice in one form or the other as frequently as on a daily basis.

Fried rice is an interesting and delicious form of rice which is perpetually prepared in many Nigerian kitchens. Consider following the steps below if you want to try your hands on making it.

How to Prepare Nigerian Fried Rice: Ingredients
*. Fresh water (straight from the tap)
*. 1 tablespoon of plain yellow curry powder
*. 100g cow liver
*. 1/3 Tin of mixed vegies (peas, carrots, green beans)
*. 1 teaspoon of chilli sauce
*. Chicken (whole chicken or chicken drumsticks)
*. ½ teaspoon thyme
*. 2-4 seasoning cubes
*. 1 medium sliced onion
*. 1 teaspoon white pepper
*. 1 teaspoon curry powder
*. Salt

How to Prepare the Fried Rice: Cooking Directions
1. Cut the chicken and cook with curry and seasoning cubes. Add sliced onions and thyme.

2. Grill the chicken in an oven to give it a golden look.

3. Cook the cow liver and chop into tiny cubes when done. The liver and chicken can be cooked together.

4. Parboil the rice (this would see to it that the rice doesn’t stick together) rinse and drain the water.

5. Put the chicken and liver (with all the content) in a sieve to get out the water.

6. Heat the chicken and liver water to boil; add the parboiled rice.

Add salt to taste and 1 tablespoon of curry powder.

7. Stir content vigorously for 2-3 minutes; cover it up and leave to cook on medium heat.

8. Transfer the cooked rice to another pot (to avoid it sticking together).

9. Divide the rice into 4 or 5 batches (depending on the size of your pot/frying pan).

10. Divide the diced cow liver and chicken into the same number of batch you divide the rice to.

11. Add a minute quantity of vegetable oil into the pot/frying pan for around 30 seconds. Add the diced liver and chicken, add some onions then follow up with one batch of the rice.

12. Repeat step 11 for the 4 batches of rice. Add more salt or curry powder if necessary.

13. After all the batches are done; heat the fried rice together with the mixed vegies (peas, carrots, green beans) in medium heat for 1-2 minutes.

Your fried rice is ready to be served.

Note: This is a simpler method which can be used instead of using a wok.

Be sure to serve or refrigerate quickly as fried rice gets spoilt very fast. As fast as losing its taste the same day it was cooked.

In some situations when they know they cannot help, instead of telling people straight away, they demand for even insane items like the front tooth of a herbivorous lion, the sperm of a dinosaur, etc which are impossible to find.

Juju is on the rise in Nigeria because many people want to become rich and escape the poverty trap. Those who perform juju for people or the overseers of Juju are mostly traditional worshippers like the voodoo worshippers in Benin Republic, Haiti and Togo who worship ancestral spirits and lesser gods.

Even though most middle and upper-middle class Nigerians prefer cooking with gas,the need for kerosene has not been completely eliminated. This is because a number of low-income earners in Nigeria surpass the middle and upper-middle class and for this category of people, cooking with kerosene is much more affordable.

A lot of middle class citizens still use kerosene for cooking alongside gas. So, if you are thinking of going into kerosene retail business, demand is certainly not a problem.

Requirements
Some of the things that you would need to start your kerosene business include-:

1. Certification
You cannot just start kerosene business without proper registration and licensing. You need to register your business with the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) and the Petroleum Products Marketing Company (PPMC).

Upon registration, you would receive a certificate which would permit you to buy your kerosene in wholesale directly from the NNPC. This makes it possible for you to have access to products cheaply. However, this process takes time and of course, would cost you money.

But if you want the easy way out, you can become an indirect marketer. As an indirect marketer, you would source for your products from registered marketers. Although, you would get products at a more expensive rate compared to buying directly from the depot.

2. Location
You need a strategic location to sell your products. Some kerosene marketers own filling stations which they use in selling kerosene alongside other petroleum products but if you cannot afford to build yourself a station, you can just set up a depot in a safe place.

I have even seen people set up kerosene mini-depots in front of their homes. However, you must take issues of safety very seriously if you decide to go with this option.

3. Dispensing Pump
To make it easy for you to sell your product, you should get an automatic dispensing pump. You can easily get them from dealers in major Nigerian cities.

However, if you still don’t know where to get one, you can try to ask from people who are already into the business; they can easily point you in the direction where they got theirs.

An automatic dispensing pump would make your job really easy as you would be able to easily measure your products and charge your customers correctly.

4. Petroleum Tanker
This is only necessary for people who are starting kerosene business on a large scale. If you have registered with PPMC and DPR and want to be buying your products directly from the depot even start supplying other kerosene sub-dealers, you would need a petroleum tanker to move your products around easily.

5. Capital
The amount you need to start a kerosene business would depend on the scale you wish to operate. With about N200, 000, you can set up a small-scale kerosene business in your neighborhood or somewhere close. But if you want to operate this business on a large scale, you should be ready to spend at least 1 million naira.

Also you can turn off the Bluetooth if it is not being used as the Bluetooth continues to search for new devices in vicinity and adds load to the processor by continue to keep the smartphone awake.

6. Fake Battery –Is your phone battery original or fake? If it is fake, it can wreak havoc on your smartphones operations, overheating and excess charge and discharge. When it is fake, it drains faster.
Always get the genuine batteries either by contacting the service center or buy it from an authorized dealer for the mobile brand.

The applicant is expected to meet up with the requirements highlighted below
*. The Applicant must be of Nigerian origin.

Another student from the same polytechnic, Adeleke Abiodun, shared photos of the student entrepreneur on his Facebook page, admiring the student's sense of style.

He wrote: “This guy dresses cool and cute. He sells snacks. He inspires us with his dressing and mode of speaking fluent English."

Abiodun who added that the entrepreneur is an HND 2 student expressed that he saw student and decided to take a photo because he looks good in his corporate attire.

He said: "We both school at Kwara StatePolytechnic, Ilorin. He’s an HND 2 student, but I dont know his name. I saw him in school today again and I felt like oh this guy killed it again!!!.”

Poverty is a great problem in Nigeria and it had been with this country for decades. Many think lack of proper plan by progressive governments is one of the factors that lead to entrenchment of poverty in the country.

Several governments have made efforts to fight against poverty, but none of these efforts had been as effective as desired. At a time, the government was thinking of poverty eradication. After a while, the government thought it was not possible to eradicate poverty and they therefore changed the slogan to poverty alleviation.

These programs set up to alleviate poverty would have been effective if there had been more seriousness on the part of the government to make these programs work. But it is unfortunate that many of the organizers of these programs and those who help them in implementing the programs were never serious about influencing the lives of the Nigerian populace positively; they were too selfish in their reasoning to make anything tangible out of such programs.

Now, lets read the possible causes of poverty in Nigeria. They are discussed below.

Income inequality
Income inequality worsened from 0.43 to 0.49 between 2004 and 2009. This is correlated with differential access to infrastructure and amenities. In particular, there are more rural poor than urban poor in Nigeria. This results from the composition of Nigeria’s economy, especially the oil and agriculture sectors.

Oil exports contribute a lot to government revenues and also contribute about 15% to the GDP. However, it only employs a small fraction of the population. Agriculture, however, contributes to about 45% of GDP, and employs close to 90% of the rural population.

This is compounded by the fact that oil revenue is poorly distributed among the population, with higher government spending in urban areas than rurally. High unemployment rates render personal incomes even more divergent. Moreover, the process of oil extraction has resulted in significant pollution and this further harms the agricultural sector.

Long-term ethnic conflict and civil unrest
Nigeria has historically experienced much ethnic conflict. After the return to civilian rule in 1999, militants from religious and ethnic groups have become markedly more violent. While this unrest has its roots in poverty and economic competition, its economic and human damages further spirals the problems of poverty.

For example, ethnic unrest and the displeasure to local communities with oil companies has contributed to the conflict over oil trade in the Niger Delta, which threatens the productivity of oil trade. Civil unrest might also have contributed to the adoption of populist policy measures which work in the short-run, but impede poverty alleviation efforts.

Political instability and corruption
Nigeria’s large population and historic ethnic instability has led to the adoption of a federal government. The resultant fiscal decentralisation provides Nigeria’s state and local governments considerable autonomy, including control over 50% of government revenues and responsibility for providing public services.

The lack of a stringent regulatory and monitoring system has allowed for rampant corruption. This has hindered past poverty alleviation efforts, and will continue to do so, since resources which could pay for public goods or directed towards investment are being misappropriated.
