How to Make Nigerian Puff Puff

“Puff Puff” is one of the most common snacks on the Nigerian streets. Unlike other confectioneries, you don’t need any special occasion to grab one of these delicious ‘puffy balls’ and sink your teeth on the go. Wondering how you can make one at home? Then try following the instructions below.

How to make Nigerian puff puff: Ingredients
*. 500g of flour
*. Cooking oil
*. Salt
*. Ground nutmeg
*. Warm water
*. Granulated Sugar
*. Yeast

How to make Nigerian puff puff: Instructions
1. Pour the flour into a deep and wide bowl.
2. Add in half teaspoon of nutmeg, yeast and sugar, salt and lukewarm water.
3. Start to mix till you get a really smooth component, (if it’s too dry, add the lukewarm water/ if it’s too wet, add flour) you can use an electric whisk to save time and energy.
4. Cover the component with foil paper and make it air tight. Place it somewhere like an oven which is NOT on for around an hour.
5. After an hour, the mixture would have risen and it means it’s ready to be fried.
6. Pour your cooking oil into a deep pot and when it’s hot, scoop in small portions of the mixture into the vegetable oil.
7. Fry till it gradually turns golden brown. (Note: the mixture is supposed to fry at the top of the pot. If it hits the bottom and stays down, it means the oil is too hot.)
8. Flip to fry on every side and once it’s all looking golden brown. Pick it out and place in a sieve to help you remove the excess oil.
9. After draining out the excess oil, your puff puff balls are ready for consumption.

Notes
*. The procedures are the same for either personal consumption or party/event.
*. You might decide to add a little bit of chilli pepper during the mix to give the puff puff balls a little bit of spicy taste, although one must be extremely careful in attempting this particular one so one doesn’t spoil the whole taste with chillies.
*. Pressing the hot balls to squeeze out the oil can deform the balls and is somewhat unnecessary as the oil will sieve out itself when the puff puff balls are still in their hot state.

The Nigerian agricultural policies have undergone metamorphosis at several stages of the country’s development, starting from the colonial era to the post colonial era of 1963.

In the early part of the post colonial era, the country had a policy based on surplus extraction. This was later transformed to an export-led policy, which brought about an improvement in the economy of the nation. The western region was exporting cocoa; the northern region was exporting groundnut, while the southeastern region was known for oil palm.

Fast forward to the alter part of independence, the Nigerian agricultural policy inclined more on import than export, since the government has not really made convincing efforts to implement many of its rules and policies on agriculture.

• Provision of more rural employment opportunities through agricultural development towards increasing farmers’ incomes and bettering the lot of rural dwellers. This equally provides employment opportunity towards reducing unemployment rate.
• Improvement and protection of arable lands useful for farming and protection of all resources on and under the ground. Preservation of the farming environment to ensure sustainable production in agriculture.
• Establishment of all necessary institutions to cater for needs of farmers and promote farming. Creation of necessary administrative organs that can help facilitates the realization of all agricultural potentials of the country.

What needs to be done
In order to fulfill the dictates of the Nigerian agricultural policies as highlighted above, there is need to provide the right equipments to farmers and make machineries available to help alleviate some of the challenges encountered in the farming processes. The government is to improve on husbandry and also make seed stocks available.
Provision of improved seeds that can develop fast and also resist disease will equally go a long way.

Mitigating factors
Establishment of the Agricultural Development Program (ADP) is one move that sought to provide answers to the questions and worries of farmers. However, the ADP is presently a ghost of its past self.

Lack in the area of biotechnology, development and research is the bane of agricultural development in Nigeria. Biotechnology opens the door to new ways of doing things and ensures improvement in quality and quantity of food production.

Political unwillingness is yet another factor that has been acting as impedance to agricultural development in Nigeria and preventing full implementation of the dictates of the agricultural policies.

Points to note
The Nigerian constriction, for one, makes provision for environmental protection and management in sections 12, 20, 33 and 34. Section 33 and 34 guarantee right to land and human dignity and it is said to associate with the necessity for safe and healthy environment.

In the national environmental standards and regulations enforcement agency act of 2007, there are emphasis in sections 7, 8 and 27 on the need for strong environmental protection. Section 27 specifically bans the discharge of hazardous or toxic substances or items into the environment. Anyone culpable can be made to pay One Million naira along with 5 years imprisonment.

The National Effluent Limitation Regulation equally gives strong indications regarding environment protection. Section 1 for example bans the release of any form of hazardous or toxic substances into water body, on land or into the air. Other relevant sections are sections 3, 4 and 5.

The Federal Solid and Hazardous Waste Management Regulations (1991) is yet another environment policy of the Nigerian government. Section 1 of this document places compulsion on industries to identify and isolate solid and hazardous waste materials that are dangerous to the environment and public health. It also compels the industries to implement possible recycling process on these hazardous products. Other relevant sections of the regulations are sections 20 and 108.

The governor of a state is saddled with the responsibility of managing and controlling all lands in the state. The governor is recognized by the Land Use Act of 2004 as the owner, manager and controller of all lands in the state. The governor is free to decide on which piece of land to allocate for agricultural, residential or commercial purpose.

Ingredients
*. 2 cups parboiled rice (regular rice)
*. 1 tbspn Coconut oil
*. One 400ml can coconut milk (preferably Thai premium)
*. 1 small onion .
*. 2 medium tomatoes
*. Spices: 2 bay leaves, 1tspn white pepper, 1 tspn minced chili, 4 sprigs fresh thyme (or 1 tspn dried), salt – to taste, 2 heaped tbspns crayfish powder, 1-2 stock cubes (optional)

Direction
*. Finely chop onion – set aside cut tomatoes into large chunks – set aside.
*. Mince chili pepper – set aside .

*. Place a wide cooking pot on medium heat. Add in 1 tbsp of coconut oil (subvegetable oil). Add in onion. Cook untiltranslucent and fragrant.

*. Add in tomato, minced pepper and spices. Stir. Cover and leave to simmer on low-medium heat for 10 minutes.

*. Add in coconut milk and one cup of water into the tomato mix. Stir. Cover and bring to a rolling boil. Stir. Taste and adjust for seasoning. .

*. Add in washed rice. Stir. Reduce heat to low-medium (4 on a marked cooker).

*. Place a sheet of foil over the pot. Place the lid over it and properly seal the edges with foil (this is a very important step).

Set a timer for 30 minutes and let it go! You have done all you can, let Jesus take the wheel here. Leave it alone! Don’t open the pot until time is up.

*. By covering the pot with foil & then a lid, you are able to get away with using less liquid. The rice grains are gently steamed & infused instead of being boiled. End result is perfectly separate & delicious grains.

Gaetana Stimoli, of Aderno, Sicily, was the architect of the killing of 23 children. Her style was to lure the unsuspecting children to her home with the promise of treats, once she had convinced her victims, the innocent children would go to her home and she would give them some wine with traces of undiluted phosphoric acids, which is incredibly poisonous to the human body.

This occurred in the late 19th century, when witchcraft was a somewhat prevalent belief in secluded communities. Indeed, when her home was eventually searched, authorities found all the stock-in-trade of witchcraft they needed to confirm her extensive crimes.

2. Katherine Knight
She is known as the first Australian woman to be sentenced to life imprisonment without parole, Katherine Knight was the brain behind the gruesome murder of her partner, John Price. The story behind his murder tells of how Knight stabbed the man to death, skinned him, and put his skin on a meat hook.

She cooked his head and various other body parts, placed them alongside vegetables on plates next to place cards containing his children’s names. Knight was planning to serve Price’s cooked body parts to his children.

Knight could have succeeded in serving the deceased cooked body to his children if the police did not immediately catch her.

The police found her knocked out on pills amid the horrific murder scene. During her trial, Knight eventually pleaded guilty to Price’s murder, though she never directly acknowledged the crime. When shown footage of the murder, she reportedly grew hysterical and had to be sedated in court. She is currently serving out her sentence at the Silver water Women’s Correctional Centre in New South Wales.

3. Mary Ann Cotton
The motivating factor behind Mary Ann Cotton seemed to be money, but it was surely not the final motive of her evil deeds. Mary Ann Cotton was responsible for the deaths of three of her four husbands, and she is thought to have murdered 21 victims in all, which includes eleven of her 13 children as well as her own mother.

The main instrument she used for her murders was arsenic poisoning, which caused great gastric pain and the speedy decline of life force in her victims. After a 20-year long spree of mysterious murders surrounding Cotton’s life, she was eventually arrested and put on trial in 1873. Mary Ann Cotton was convicted of the murder of three of her husbands and was sentenced to death by hanging.

The execution was not a smooth one; Cotton’s trap door proved to be too short, and she writhed wildly at the end of her rope until she eventually choked to death.

4. Myra Hindley
Myra Hindley’s acts of violence describes the sexual assault and murders of five victims, ranging from the ages of 10 to 17.

She connived with her evil husband, Ian Brady, and together they kidnapped, sexually assaulted, and murdered their young victims.

In one case, they visited a playground andasked a 10 year-old girl known as Lesley Ann Downey to help them carry some packages to their home. On getting there, they grabbed her, stripped the young girl nude, took photos of her before full-on sexually assaulting and murdering her.

The couple’s spree was eventually put to a merciful halt. Their trial began in 1965, which was quite lucky for them, since capital punishment had been abolished in England just a few short weeks prior to their arrest. They were sentenced to life in prison. Myra Hindley died in 2002 of bronchial pneumonia, while Ian Brady is still alive, carrying out the remainder of his sentience.

5. Mary Bell
The case of Mary Bell is uniquely horrifying in the context of this list, since she committed her murders when she was just a child. In 1968, when she was 11 years old, Mary Bell strangled two little boys to death in Scotswood, a suburb of Newcastle upon Tyne, in England.

The two boys were 4-year-old Martin Brown, and 3-year-old Brian Howe. Although the murder of Brian Howe had been allegedly committed by Bell and an acquaintance named Norma Joyce Bell (no relation), Mary Bell was the only one tried for the murder, as court-appointed psychiatrists declared that she displayed “classic symptoms of psychopathy”. Bell was given an indefinite prison sentence and was released in 1980, at which point she was granted anonymity and the opportunity to start a new life.

She would go on to have a daughter, who did not know about her mother’s haunting past until reporters eventually discovered their location.

Fundamental human rights in Nigeria are the inalienable rights that are without presumption or cost,a privilege to all human beings under Nigeria.

What is Lesbianism?
It is a form of homosexuality among females. Some are of the opinion that it is a normal thing, but the truth remains that there is no biological, physiological or anatomical support for this idea.
