PoliticsRe: Northern Political Leaders Ask Jonathan To Resign by Vavavoom(m): 10:52am On Oct 09, 2010
There is a gathering cloud in Nigeria. It will bring harm to all of us if we are not careful. I write as a Niger delta woman, and am not sorry about it. We have been apologetic all our lives.

My grandfathers were made to feel inferior. My father had to beg for his rights. I do not plan to toe their line. I know my responsibilities and obligations to the entity called Nigeria, and I happen to know my rights within it as well. My Holy Grail in life is moral authority, fairness and equity. I expect nothing else from others. I believe I speak the mind of the majority.

This evil storm threatening Nigeria is a fall out of that recurring decimal June, 12. It is an unfinished business. It is something that will hunt Nigeria forever, except we take bold steps to correct the injustice in the land. . Where moral authority is sacrificed on the altar of expediency, then there is trouble. I have watched in horror and dismay the belligerence of Northern leaders towards Dr Good luck Jonathan. They have threatened war, hell and brimstone if they are not allowed to tie the progress of Nigeria, the well being of 150 million people to their big gowns if zoning is not effected.

I looked at the list of all the people threatening chaos for Nigeria if they do not get their way, I saw the name of Mallam Adamu Ciroma, a man who had been in government long before I was born and am pushing 50 years of age. In all those years, Mallam did not have the presence of mind to add quality to the lives of Nigerians. He was the governor of our Central bank at one time. He did not get that position because he was the most qualified for it. In fact, were we to be a Nation where merit counts, Mallam would not have been a mere executive officer in the Central bank, but he got that position anyway because of he was a Northerner. At this time, our fathers were made to keep quiet.

Then he became a minister of Finance, and still, he was appointed to that position because of his place of birth. Still, he did not add quality to the lives of Nigerians. H did not even do anything for his own people in the North. He did not have a clue as to the importance of that office. As far as Mallam and his fellow leeches are concerned, the position in public service is meant to enrich only a few. Mallam had been a major player in the affairs of Nigeria long before our independence in 1960, yet his home state cannot boast of 100 medical doctors. It is one of the most backward states in Nigeria by all standards. Yet he held the keys to the central ban of Nigeria and was Minister in about 3-4 administrations.

I am writing because I see the drama over zoning in Nigeria has become a sectional issue and the gloves are off. Much as we may not care about the man Jonathan Good Luck, we will line up behind him if these people continue to pile on him. I then saw the name of a once respected leader, Mallam Shettima Ali Munguno joining the fray, threaning the corporate existence of Nigeria if the North is not allowed to debase Nigeria for another 4 years. The saddest was from Balarabe Musa, a man who benefited from the good will of Southerners when his own people tore into him as governor of Kaduna state. Did I read of his support for IBB? I was aghast. It shows Nigeria is a nation of absolutely no morals. Who would have thought the day will come when people like Balarabe Musa will support IBB as president of Nigeria. Any how, we will put all their talk down as acts of verbal recklessness. If these people are living in the past, the rest of us are not. We know that violence is the first refuge of the incompetent and the shameless. They feel their threat will make Dr Jonathan recoil into his shell just as our fathers did in past years. Fortunately, those days are gone, those days when we were treated as second class citizens in Nigeria are gone. No one region has the patent to violence. Their threats portray them as lairs. After all violence can only be “conceived by lies and lies can only be maintained by violence” Nigeria has been a lie, and to maintain the status quo, these people feel they can effectively threaten violence.

I will like to ask these people talking down at Good luck Jonathan where they were when Umaru Yardua was comatose in Saudi Arabia and all the letters of our constitution were broken. I see their attitude towards Jonathan is one of patronizing him. Why did Shettima Ali Munguno not call for the impeachment of Yardua for running away to Saudi Arabia while Nigeria was left rudderless? Who could forget the irresponsible and senile threats issued by Lawal Kaita or whatever his name is over Yardua? Question is, does Nigeria belong to the North?

One thing these people forget is that they cannot make us stay in that entity called Nigeria. If they for one moment feel they can have a repeat of 1966, then I will say they are more deluded than we thought. It will not be a cake walk this time around. They have exhibited a weird sense of arrogance that is unacceptable to the rest of Nigeria. Not one of this people whimpered about the sanctity of the constitution of Nigeria while Turai Yardua was ruling by proxy. The reasonable ones amongst them like El Rufai who spoke up was demonized and now they threaten Goodluck.

We see they have upped the ante. They want to impeach the man. We wish them luck. I will not be surprised if they get their people in the 2 houses to carry out that act of suicide. They may be able to get some of our people in the south to join them in committing hara-kiri. But after that, then what? The loot they covet, I assure, will elude them. The love of power operating through greed and personal ambition will fail. Before these clowns lose their minds and plunge Nigeria into chaos, I hope they will pause and have a critical rethink.

Who in his right mind will support any of the people the North has presented. As it is, the only decent person amongst the presidential candidates will be Mallam Ribadu. Yet he is not threatening the corporate existence of Nigeria. The Apostles of do or die Northern domination are rapacious thieves. Their management skills resemble that of Al Capone. If they are all the North has to present, I fear for the future of that geographic region. In the 50 years of our independence, their sons have held sway over Nigeria for 38 years, yet the North has nothing to show for it. They have the largest number of illiterates in the country. They have millions of Almajiris. Children whose parents are held down by their own people to be raped and debased. So much so that their children have no hope for the future. They have the highest and largest number of illiterate women. They have the worst cases of VVFs. They have not been able to provide water and basic amenities of life for their own people. Yet these same people have the moral shamelessness to send their own children to the best schools abroad. They run out of the country for common cold and dislocated foot, (read Abubakar Atiku), they have properties in Potomac, Maryland where the least property come for US$ 10 million and they pay cash for it. They buy private jets, and have 300 million naira wedding to a fourth wife who is also a juvenile. Yet their children study under trees, they have no water and are killed in hundreds by cholera. They convince their people not to immunize their children while their own wives live abroad with their babies for the first year of the babies’ lives for proper immunization. They are not able to graduate enough doctors after 50 years of looting the country and so they fall back on unlicensed and uneducated Egyptian doctors. It was babangida who closed universities in Nigeria for one year while his own children were in schools in Switzerland,

I completely disagree, as a matter of fact this is a sign of great days ahead. There never has been a time in recent decades where the political elite have been this divided over an issue. Usually the folks that comprise "shareholders" of Nigeria plc agree across all ethnic groups and that’s why it’s easy for them to take the rest of us for a ride. Now that their insatiable greed has separated them along ethnic divides then we are certain the end is near for this class of political rapists that has been plundering our resources over the past 50years.Its a good sign remember "divided we stand united we fall" I would rather this than a scenario where IBB,OBJ,Edwin Clark,Atiku,Anenih and co all agree, that will mean more looting and eventual transfer of power to their children and upcoming protégés.Now all we need to do is sit back and let dog eat dog, then tame the exhausted and outnumbered dog that survives with people power.
While I agree it is a welcome development to have them divded the cabal dear Mohid won't go without a fight, if it means throwing Nigeria into anarchy to keep the status quo then we will witness more and likely get to a threshold before things stabilize. To think otherwise is foolhardy. Atiku, IBB, SARAKI, Ciroma et al have shown by their utterances and possibly October 1 strike action that they won't relinquish power without a fight even if it means pushing us to the brink of another civil war.

MEND was never disbanded, they only changed luietenants. they never claimed they were closing operations, they only said that since tompolo et al. accepted amnesty, that they are launching new guys as commanders.
if JRC was approached earlier by IBB why are they not on trial for aiding and abbetting, conspiracy to commit murder since they did not bother to report to the authorities? so they knew who was behind warri bombings? and they didnt come forward? yeah right!

Lagos — The last has not been heard on last Friday's bomb attacks in Abuja during Nigeria's independence anniversary celebrations which killed 12 persons and injured 36 others, as the Joint Revolutionary Council (JRC), an umbrella of major militant groups in the Niger Delta yesterday said former military president, Ibrahim Babangida, contacted it to carry out the bomb attacks.

In an electronic mail to Daily Champion by Bakabio Walter, JRC's spokesman, the group alleged that the attacks were carried out by Henry Okah with the support of IBB, and that the aim was to assassinate President Goodluck Jonathan and Vice President Namadi Sambo among other top government officials.

However, IBB reacting through his spokesman, Kazeem Afegbua, said: "That is a blatant lie. General IBB is too disciplined and patriotic to be drawn into this deliberate blackmail. Please ignore them."

Part of the group's statement said: "While we were reflecting on the journey so far, some counter revolutionary elements launched two terrorist attacks in Abuja that took the lives of several innocent people and claimed it was for the Niger Delta struggle. Our intelligence report revealed that those attacks were planned by Okah and executed by the terrorist group he formed with the support of Babangida.

"It was formed with the sole aim of fighting against President Jonathan should he forge ahead with his plan to contest in 2011 poll.

"The attack had two main goals. Firstly, to assassinate Jonathan, Sambo and others in the line of succession who were all present at the golden jubilee celebrations at Eagle Square.

"Secondly, if the President and those in the line of succession survive the attack, the insecurity arising from that would be used as excuse for the military intervention."

JRC took a snipe at those claiming to be members of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), saying they are not, as MEND was disbanded after all of their leaders accepted the federal government's offer of amnesty.

It said: "The attacks were a mercenary job done on behalf of Babangida and his cohorts. We know this because we were approached earlier by agents of IBB to carry out attacks in the Niger Delta and Abuja to demystify Jonathan and show that he does not have the support of his people, but we declined.

"It was because of this that we suspended our armed campaign this year. We realised that IBB was going to use our genuine agitation to his own selfish, unpatriotic and over ambitious advantage. It was when we declined that they approached Henry Okah who is a mercenary by nature, and they started with the Warri bomb blasts followed by the anniversary attacks. For now we can say authoritatively that Okah heads IBB's terror machine and they are more sophisticated than what they have done so far.

"The recent events in the politics of the Nigerian state further expose the ethnic and national contradictions and justify our agitations for self determination and call for a sovereign national conference of all the nationalities that were forcefully conscripted into Nigeria. This is the only peaceful way of getting out of this barbarism that is threatening to create the biggest refugee problem in the world," the group said.

It warned politicians not to "drag our region and its genuine struggle into their muddy water of politics. Also, those who are planning to organise a coup de'tat should know that they would have us to contend with as we will never allow their authority to extend into our region. We are watching keenly as the drama unfolds, knowing that after this mad dance of macabre we shall meet at the barricade."

I weep for this nation, miscreants who once had no place in our affairs now reign supreme. Each one protecting his interest even to the detriment of Nigeria. What people won't do to stay in power, it is bewildering that street urchins and gun runners are now in the equation as regards 2011 election. Folks it is a sgin of things to come, the foot soldiers are being recruited by their feudal lords to cause mayhem. Once there was a bed which accomodated Henry Okah and his associates( Asari and co now supposedly rehabilitated and pro Jonathan), the MEND bed. Okah's business boomed, supplying arms to Asari and co all in the name of ND struggle lipsrsealed Then there was a common enemy of the associates, the ruling UMYA governement, interest perceivedly different from their suppose struggle, Henry sold his guns until pacification came in the form of amnesty. Of course like every businessman Henry kicked into survival mode instinct and refused the amnesty- the cake sharing for him must not end. After all he and his associates have come to know what the high and mighty have been enjoying from the looting of Nigeria's oil wealth. Imagine being rewarded for being a recalcitrant angry. Then came the UMYA saga, his death and the subsequent enthronment of an ND son, the wall which united Henry and his associate gave way, for them one of theirs was on the throne, the solidairty we now see glaringly between them and Jonathan. Of course with the big masquerade E. Clark directing the troops from behind the scene. Sighs. So the rally cry has begun so too the finger pointing. Of course with each party only concerned about its interest. I shed tears because none of these bandits, JEGA, ATIKU, IBB, SARAKI, CIROMA and their lot are concerned if Nigeria burn. To them we the people are a means to an end. I fear the break-up cloud is gathering and the storm of disunity brewing would unhinge the remaining screw that binds us together.

It is troubling times indeed. What people will do to fulfill a prohphecy, remember Campbell's warning, John Campbell? And people who are supposed to be intellectuals(Odein Ajumogobia and co) took his assertions with a pinch of salt. The US have got a dossier of all electronic and voice recordings exchanging back and forth between all the players involved in this charade. And so when they proactively but subtly warn we fail to heed and dismiss it with a wave of hand.
We are at a precipice and even some contributors here can't see the danger of self-annilhilation that brews right before their eyes. Chinua Achebe was right, he said, '' things are falling apart the centre cannot hold'', it is a prophecy that is coming to pass, the regions of Nigeria constitute young Ikemefunna, weak but loved by his tribes men. Okowkwo is being played out by a power loving elite, people who have used tribe & religion to cow their lot into submission. Add a gun runner, whose daily meat and mode of survival has been taking away by a supposed amnesty and you have a cocktail of gunpowder waiting to explode. All the actors with their interest to protect, not bothered if Nigeria survives another harmattan or not, it is indeed troubling times as we have half truths, sometimes outright lies being bandied for our consummtion. Of course we have made progress, small progress but against the backdrop of what should have been then we can't say monies being spent for this jamboree is justified. The benchmark countries are Singapore, Malaysia, even Japan, countries who had had to build from scratch the last 50 years and in whose shadow prints our names couldn't be hedged development wise. If you can't see this picture then you can run your mouth like a headless chicken and celebrate not having the most of the basic human indices development requirements after 50 years!

@ topic,

Dear Mr. IBB your proposition is as obvious as one plus one equalling two! The problem is your cronies never geti moni like u have amassed so dem no go gree. But you IBB don't need to be president to enforce this change, after all it is in the hands of you and your select few padi-mis who continue to plunder our wealth without any considerate thought for the wellbeing of your nation. When a man sees the end of his life he'd want to know there had been some purpose to it. IBB don reach that point and all reflection he sees from the mirror are purposeless and meaningless, imagine when all ya moni no fit save ya wife life sad lipsrsealed. Imagine being wished dead by millions unseen, being cursed by mouths uncountable, then picture Mandela, the Madiba of africa, imagine what his end will be like, imagine his passing, he'd seen his purpose fulfilled, can we say the same of IBB, other pdp charlatans?  The first step to true remorse is to endeavour to give back what wasn't yours that you took, start from there IBB and who knows in the remaining years that you've got aggrieved people of Nigeria may just hand you that purpose that you badly seek.
PoliticsRe: Pdp Never Zoned Presidency -jonathan by Vavavoom(m): 11:54am On Sep 29, 2010
While it is morally corrupt to shift the goal post midway into the game it is all too familiar that ours has always been the politics of opportunity and hardly service delivery based. Jonathan is being schooled about the principle of gentility and honour by people with the ''wrong foot''. Atiku, Saraki and IBB are hardly different from who they condemn. Saraki and his family have Kwara state locked down as a family business. Father-to-son and daughter in the frame to take over. Wither zoning in Kwara guber, Saraki? Abi gentleman agreement no follow for that side?  huh. Now on to Atiku, he tells whomever has ears to listen that the slot belongs to the north according to the pdp constitution, good, but ''ungentlemanly'' fails to acknowledgeabi na purposefully forget sef cheesy the same pdp constitution prevents a deserter to immediately seek elective position upon readmittance into the party-in fact it clearly states that a minimum of two years must pass by before any such deserti be allowed to contest for any elective positionGEJ & Nwodo even give bros waiver grin. Now for one who has been involved in political prostitution and pdp name-calling to preach about morality and gentleman conduct as it concerns obedience to pdp constitution smacks of hypocrisy. Zoning to his likes mean, an opportunity for me, myself to actualise my dream to be president under a dubious party even if it means going back to my vomit. I ask, Atiku, why not zoning to the North West? At least UMYA didn't finish his 8 year term so why not pick someone from pdp within that region to complete the NW term? Ah! I just realised Atiku is from the North East cheesy. There you go, a man who wants to abide by a constitution selectively as it suits him. The same holds true for IBB though not a deserter but on grounds of regional zoning im no qulify. Clearly all of these charlatans, Jonathan inclusive are opportunists and are not different from each other.  Take away the squandered wealth being shared recklessly by the centre and you have men bereft of anything resembling a people-centred idea capable of delivering service to the people they govern. Like someone said they won't leave voluntarily unless credible men with progressive ideas join forces to lead the many who desire change but are indifferent and caught in tribal sentiments that last until their champion is dethroned. make we think.

Enormous amount of the 12 billion dollars oil windfall IBB heartlessly stole from nigeria went into spinning. Most of the new genration media outlets in nigeria today were financed with the blood money.
Like you, am sure if someone followed some trail about the gulf windfall they will come up with a brief- The Gulf Wind Brief. It surely will reveal a lot about the nouveau-riche of the media houses, banks and oil corps et al. Surely a payback time by Dokpesi, other proxies and financial marabouts will soon emerge. Wish we had the freedom of information bill, I for don start research to write a classic novel like the Pelican Brief cheesy

@vavavoom
If you've ever seen money on the ground, picked it up and put it in your pocket and felt happy firm in the belief that God gave you the money, without being a good and responsible citizen and putting yourself in the original owners shoes (what if i dropped my money here, how would i feel if someone picked it up and left) and you never actually go investigating and hunting for someone that dropped his wad of cash (rarely). Why do we expect some sort of higher morality of public officers when they are simple men with as much weaknesses as anybody. My point being, never underestimate the length a man will go to justify a wrong that furnishes his self interest. (Mr. governors logic: Power belongs to God, God gave me power, God must surely want me to be rich, since nobody will say much if i take this money, after all, everybody else is doing it, its not just me)
This is an underlying philosophical argument im giving you to put across to you the idea that there is no such thing as good governance without responsible followership.
Strange that you hold the highlited view and expect Jonathan to in your own words, uphold his party agreement. Do I expect a higher morality from these thieving pdp bandits? Hell NO! That's why in my book they all are dishonourable men, everyone of them. But I do agree with your view that they are helped in no small measure by a sitdon-look docile followership waiting for change to happen. Now the line you and me should be towing is one that sensitizes and awakens the docile public to demand for changeand thus effectively build the harped on civic institutions that checkmate brazen corrupt practices in government not defend the club of the insatiably greedy by harping on a gentleman's agreement that fleece the weak amongst us.

Of course he has a right to be president. I respect that right. But he should uphold his party's agreements which came to be from a desire to ensure equitable distribution of power among the different interests in our country. Had Yar'adua not died, nobody would be ask him to hand over to Jonathan in 2011. Everybody would expect that he stays till 2015 then switch zones. But you're capitalizing on an unfortunate tragedy, see how dishonorable that is?
Mr. Gadogado you amaze me when you talk about agreement and principle with regards to the ruling pdp. Am astounded simply because in a country where trust amongst ethnic regions is non-existent , where Abubakar Rimi, a northerner of the same pdp extraction ran against OBJ after this same much purported zoning formula shocked for the primary ticket huh, am i missing something here? Honour? Amongst thieves? In this dubious game of instant opportunity and checkmate you choose to be hypothetical and say ''had Yar'adua not died'', huh allow me to let you in on something; had my mother been my father I would have had lesbian parent cheesy. Politics is about opportunity and seizing the moemnt when in your grip. It is contradictory that persons like IBBfailed to honuourably handover power to an elected democratic president and Atikulook up the meaning in a dictionary and you'll find entries such as: unprincipled, satnds for everything and nothing, dishourable, are championing the doctrine of honour and fair principle tongue, blabbibg about gentleman hogwash and what-have-you; as far as am concerned the whole of them lot in the pdp stink and no amount of image laundry will give them any semblance of credence nor honour. From IBB-to-Atiku-OBJ-Jonathan down to their party chair, all of them are dishonourable men and can't be looked at with the compass of honour. You also astound me with ''Its about maintaining a delicate and fragile balance of power'', I ask, power for what purpose and for whom? The ordinary man on the streets just desire a life where he can have access to the basic neccessities for survival and cares less about power balance. Don't you think the north can present better and people-centred credible aspirants that can hold their own against the south? Shouldn't that be the position of one who enjoys the freedom of good governance-accountability, justice and equity in good Ol' USA? I hope you are not offended but you come accross as elitist- a status quo keeper sad
