PoliticsRe: We Won’t Apologise To Nigeria, Says S-africa by Vavavoom(m): 10:44am On Mar 08, 2012
Nayah:
Point!
But Kokoa I personnally think Nigerian brothers have to wonder why a lot of countries are in tension with them, and I'm nopt talking about economy and so on because I know some will talk about "envy, jealousy" but seriously even in Cameroon people used to talk about Nigerians wrongly and I don't really like it because I know a lot of sweet and welcoming Nigerians, so I'm asking you don't you think Nigerians (not all of course) but FG or the population need to think about why all of this is happening to them?
@Nayah, seriously which country will respect another whose leadership or lack of it continue to keep it in jeopardy? The acts of a few is rubbing bad on all of us - Enter Ibori, Alameseigha, Dariye and co. Know their UK stories? How many leaders within the period under consideration can you point to and say same thing about? It makes no sense that while a mjority of our people are in want we have a few people who connive with outsiders to squander our commonwealth living us in limbo.
PoliticsRe: Mass Deportation From South Africa: Another Sign Of Nigeria’s Fading Glory! by Vavavoom(m): 10:06am On Mar 08, 2012
South Africa committed diplomatic gaffe in turning back those Nigerians, but we must ask ourselves some salient questions:

Our People-in-position children go to school in Ghana & SOuth Africa, I presume we know why.
Our big and thieving men register their private jets in SA
Of recent our video productions for musicals and movies are mostly shot in SA huh
What of election materials huh
I could go on but the bottomline is we don't like our own even when we manage to produce what majorly is substandard so our thirst for the good things of life while not producing/manufacturing anything of worth has made us consumerist sitting duck undecided

My sympathy to the kids and other travelling deportees with genuine documents - but to that olofofo Senator, dpeort his a*se ALL THE TIME I say!

Bravado no go solve this row o!

lol, after our so called leaders loot and stack it up in SA you need me to turn off my phone as a form of protest because a senator was affected this time and he complained to his be-in-co looters in the house. I feel pity for the other 124 caught in the diplomatic row with that dishonorable ''sinator''. When we are ready we will TURN ON our phones and call people within to protest against a government that cares nothing about her people. Until then let SA continue to deport thieving ''legislooters''/executhieves/governors and council men.

tunde1200:
seconded odiaero post is not easy to set up an airline in this kind of nigeria government.
More like Nigerian environment. I quite agree it is dauning to do business in a clime where operators are subject to changing govt. policies at will. It is also true that the effiiciency of the airlines will improve if the basic infrastucture is there, but what is not excusable is for an operatot to allow a passenger(international /local) travel to the airport check-in and piror to boarding cancel a flight. The working/bussiness environment is challenging and of you as an operator has agreed to do bussiness then you must be proactive in dealing with the short-comings of the system. No be kalokalo bussiness dem dey run na Airline! And as such shouldn't be subject to the dictates of ''if we get, we fly -if not, we just tell una sorry'' . It is hurting people on a daily basis and one day when one person no fit control himself e go do the unthinkable. Internationally scheduled flights should be ascertainable 72hrs( fuel for plane/take off gates/check-in counters cum screens etc) before take off so that in the event of such aviation fuel challenges a refund could be made to the passenger in time to make alternative arrangements for their travel.
TravelRe: Fuel Scarcity: Passengers Stranded As Arik Air Cancels Us Flight …passenger Caus by Vavavoom(m): 11:49am On Mar 07, 2012
While all the blame should not go to Arik, alot resided in their power to have changed  - not only Arik but the other airlines -Aero/Air Nigeria.

For one, in a bussiness like air transportation proactivity is utmost as it affects travel plans ( connecting flights/appointements) - the signs of the impending fuel scarcity has been with us since the marketers discovered less money will be coming into their coffers with the decision to remove the subsidy juice.
What alternative plans do/did any of these  airlines have in place in the event of experienced scarcity?
[li] Why wait till check-in to inform international passengers? Smirk of mischief.  Perhaps the optimisim of hoping to get the product from an unscheduled source while keeping hold of the customer?

Matters have come to a head as regards the poor infrastructure bedevilling the air/road transportation in Nigeria. Every day from one apology to the other because of absent fundamentals. The problem is a cascading at the moment - because we can't refine enough we import. Because we import a large dose of what we need we are left at the mercy of the importers, so when they sneeze everything gets grounded for lack of an alternative.
PoliticsRe: Did Our Past Leaders Believed In One Nigeria ?, Hear What They Said by Vavavoom(m): 4:18pm On Mar 06, 2012
By their actions - No! But I choose to speak of the current. The Status Quo.

I don't think looking back just now we face a different problem - contempt for kind still exist widely, sustained conceit by class abounds within a chosen group; fear-wrapped in the burden of tomorrow's offerings most of us are likely to turn out as those in privileged positions. What difference would I be if given a chance? Will I be different from what aspersions I cast?

History for me is repeating itself, we haven't made conscious effort to move away from the failings of the founding fathers instead we have continued to potray and push forward what differences that separate us. We continue to be bunched together without any realization of a common purpose.

I don't know how, but I see the lack of a national spirit as a major drawback - and the danger is what we as adult don't have we hardly can pass on to a watchful teenager/youth to imbibe. Nationalism '' no be wetin dem write for book, na sacrifice, conscious sacrifice made today to help sustain people of tomorrow to go in the right path''.

Until we become such men who cease to potray self first (region/ethnic sentiments/religious sentiments/class sentiments) - we will continue to hover and puff around with no sense of collective accomplishment as a unit.

The burden which comes along with being married and sharing one's life with another aren't easy. Tough luck Amy, but you'll need to be strong and with the help of your in-laws be able to make the transition you seek - of course after coming down first with your hubby ( @ the least a year's trial run) to forerun and put things in place. Water the ground, test and self-criticize the various comments you would have gathered herefrom.

Coming from where you are it may not be smooth more likely discomforting at the beginning but there's a kind of fulfilment you just may discover - a reward far reaching than self. Your narrative sounds like one that will end well if well managed at the outset. Unfortunately I don't have all the answers you seek but I do hope whatever direction your decision(s) take you, your hubby and children you do find hope in the things you'll learn in your sojourn.

P.S: Keep and walk your faith, Amy

BusinessRe: Can A Nigerian Become A Billionaire Without Patronizing Corruption Or Politics? by Vavavoom(m): 2:31pm On Feb 23, 2012
The road to great wealth is fraught with many hurdles/ - those who choose honesty nearly all the time never get over the barrier of breaking even in business in their life time. Think of any business in existence, search its foundational soul, rip it and what you'll find will oustand you. From Coke, to Apple, to Shell, to GM to Dansa group of companies the trend is similar- people climbing on the sweat and back of others to amass this great wealth. It is an offer given to a selected few, people who have the ''SMART'' tag before their name, but under whose care the great many employees toil in want and care for many many years till they die.
What I normally ask about billionaires: How and what is the welfare of their staff like at the foundation stage? One thing is for sure, if one is ready to scheme people( what some tag ''SMART'' ) and offer ridiculously low wage pay and no welfare in producing a product they are more than halfway to that club. It is the reason for job outsourcing, contract staffing (Nigerian style) - low pay for similar output.

FamilyRe: Should A Wife Join Cash And Effort To Build House/business With Her Husband. by Vavavoom(m): 12:20pm On Feb 23, 2012
The two strange things in this debate:
* Women give birth to men(boys) who themselves posses the underlying factor (Y-chromosome) responsible for a male child at conception.

Something tells me a reversal of role would be fun to watch. Listen, the ACT of marrying another and giving birth cannot happen by either sex, it is a JOINT effort requiring coupling of characteristics shared by both. So even in the act of procreation the business is jointly held.
The ignorance of the laidback is to hide under the desire of a male child when knowledge abounds as to improving the child sex prior to conception. This is bewildering. I mean why work so hard and not take interest in the small details? It ain't about consumating all the time but giving oneself the best possible chance at getting the desired progeny.

*Women, knowing the society from which you descend is paramount in forestalling all such dictates under which the all-conquering MIL lie in wait.
Before you say ''I do'' CHECK all the boxes ( luv no dey belleful) and be sure you can live with them - remember most mothers in-law are likely to move the goalpost mid way into the union to bed-in with societal demands. Strange but true. How women(mothers in-law) got to be brainwashed into believing as right that a man MUST by way of remaining relevant after he is gone have another (son) bear his name is beyond belief. It gives grief thinking about it - and for another woman to be championing that line against her kind is dumbfounding. When we die those held in positive light are they who leave godwill in the hearts of many they shared a common space while alive. No be weda u be boy or girl

People(society) should rise above child sex and other societal malice against women and think how best both sexes can help shape society positively.

I watched the whole charade and while he, Bussagol looked pitiable by his countenance a discernable person could tell he knew much more than he was letting on. The guy was caught between deals cut with the high-and-mighty NNPC-PPMC fraud train and transacting legit biz in the country. For all the supposed ethics hogwash these IOCs harp about alot of handslapping and elbow greasing goes on beneath the table. The excess cash of 2.6 Billion or thereabout must have been deliberately paid by NNPC-PPMC-PPPRA tower chiefs with Total Nigeria Plc as the account conduit until disbursement time. In periods when no one cared to check these ''overpay'' was the free windfall for a selected few - the come-and-chop cabal.

If you press mr. Bussagol harder am sure names will be revealed of the benefactors in high places. The same is true for all the other Major/super Marketers in the business of fuel imports and subsidy remittance.

my fear is nothing will happen after all the revelation, except of course we the people go on another strike - the real strike and demand for heads to roll.

I perfectly understand you. However, this is not the place for the in-depth discussions

What then was your bluff about mentioning operator's fault when in your thinking the forum wasn't right? I can only hope the RCA doesn't go the Macondo way as espoused by ''integrity'' BP. And while your claim to know about the whole shebang makes you an insider, anyone with ears to the ground in this industry knows that operating cost tends to sway bias in times of critical decision making. This is what we would like to see in Chevron's RCA, maybe an insider you just might help pass this concern. No hard feelings bro.

There's enough blame to go round The One - from drilling contractor to operator to hired & owned equipment plus personnel on the job. I could build my own theory based on while-I-was-there experience and it won't be far from that carried out by an unbaised investigator but in all the buck stops with Chevron as overall supervisor to make informed judgement based on feedback got from service personnel and drilling contractor in line with acceptable drilling practices as spelt out by Chevron prior to job commencement.  The Blow out didn't just happen. It occured in series as unscheduled events culminating in the fatal disaster at the end, there were pointers but as with humans we carry on thinking we can get through before suituations get out of hand.

Here's a cue, an installed BOP is about one of the last lines and most effective means deployed to combat fluid kick. From what we know it didn't shut out the fatal kick. The question is why? Failure to deploy in time because of human error( panic station) from ground feed. It is the most reason why the OIM didn't make it out alive from sources on ground. He raced to the other side when human instinct prevailed otherwise, seeing from his office opposite the rig floor I can picture him blaring out the abandon vessel signal for others to escape while he raced down to try and halt the almost out of control event. I could picture the overwhelmed driller, the fear evident on his face, such hoplessness. Such frailty. On the brink of life and death is such tiny margin of separation. I did share brief moments with both men - worthy men I would say. But the error didnt start with the BOP, it started after we took the first mild kick. Basic instinct kicked in. Control the well first, off course  with every kick nobody had an inkling of how big it would get, but when the BHT( bottom hole temperature) started rising, a phase change was on the way, pump seals began melting, pumps went offline and came back on, all the while gas seppages building while men toiled for days in guise of primary well control. Mud weights was reviewed and weighed in between. But intermittent failures of the pumps was the cue for departure that wasn't heralded. The primary line of defence was gone, and while men dreamt in their sleep few were to wake to an accustomed sound of abandon ship. The heroes stayed just one last time to save their Endeavor but their fate was sealed and time stopped for them.  Tonight I go to sleep with their faces in my dream. Beautiful men I hope to work with in the afterlife.

and how do you know this for sure? Your comment in red font above applies to you too.
Jacob123, Dermeister is spot on in his assessment. The well in question is Funiwa Deep-1A drilled on OML 86 as exploratory. While I wouldn't want to hinge all the blame on Chevron, they could have done more to forestall the suituation. Investigation will go on in the coming weeks and I hope lessons learnt will be implemented and not cast aside. We had Macoondo in APril of 2010, just 3 months shy of 2 years we have Funiwa only fewer casualties. A lot happened on the well -safety-to-operating cost assessment will help nip such catastrophe in the bud. I hope everyone involvedwill come clean.

please refrain from commenting when not in the know, the rig in question is the KS ENDEAVOR owned by AOS (Atlantic Oilfield Services). It was at max capacity, still burning and going down. As i write two persons were unaccounted for and for the OIM and a driller on tour. I know this because I left the rig on sunday afternoon and left behind handworking men who went in search of a honest means of livelihood. Hardworking men sweating to keep the cars/planes/ships running. Hardworking men toiling to give most who comment the good life that we take for granted. As I key I can still picture the faces of both men stil missing, the driller that Sunday morning I was over on the other side in the mess while we had breakfast, just across my seat, opposite me, and to think that he may have died during the possible gas blowout is, I can only hope and pray for their families. Please lets refrain cos we never know who might be reading our comments.

That is the only way to move the system made of up of people whose choice isn't limited to bad but also have the option to do the common good.
