ProsperChild:
We can easily prove this equation.

Here,

0/0 = (100–100)/(100–100)

Solving R.H.S,

= (10)^2 — (10)^2/10(10–10)

= (10–10)(10+10)/10(10–10)

= 10+10/10

= 20/10

= 2

Clearly, 0/0 = 2
This mathematics is invalid and contradictory.

But for fun only , it is possible. not only 2, whatever you want, 0÷0 will give you. Check this workings below.

You know, if 0/1=0, 0/2=0 , 0/3=0 then 0/0=0

Again

6/3 means, which number is multiplied by 3 is 6 ? Answer: 2

30/5 means, which number is multiplied by 5 is 30 ? Answer : 6

now 0/0 means, which number is multiplied by 0 is 0 ? now your answer will be 1,2,3,4…… any number.

Again 2/2= 1, 8/8=1, so 0/0 = 1

But in all honest we cannot determine 0/0, so it is undeterminate.

Bro ..simply open this thing and read now. You're making this thing tire me. Academic web presence. You can't claim to be teaching well if you're not researching and you can't claim to be researching well if your papers ain't getting published and cited by reputable journals (which are all available online). Do you understand now?
Nearly all german uni are not well ranked .This is because in Germany most top level research is done in Institutes like the Fraunhofer Institute, Max-Plank Institute etc. The universities as such are involved mainly with the teaching.. So basically they just don't get the credit for most of the work that is done even though its the University Professors, Students and Researchers who are doing the research. So will you say because of this British and american university are doing better than german uni because the ranking says so.

If you argue that prestige isn't quantifiable then there is neither need for benchmarking nor comparison ..how much more a debate.

Different organizations with different perspectives as is the case with ranking bodies is the reason why different schools top different rankings and a particular school can outshine another in a ranking (ranking A) but become outshone by the same school in another ranking (ranking B). But In a case where a school trumps another in ALL the rankings (which is the case with CU vs Ashesi), then differences in the ranking methodologies makes no case for the lowly-ranked school.

At the emboldened. False once again! Heard of University reputation rankings? There are many schools (Caltech, MIT, Stanford, etc.) "better" than Harvard as it stands now, but Harvard still competes favorably with them in global rankings because of reputation score. In the stand-alone reputation rankings - none of these unis come anywhere close to Harvard.
Hardly at all. Rankings will sell books, magazines, and advertisements. They “feed the beast” of college anxiety. Every ranking uses its own methodology, and some of the metrics are always suspect in which i have given enough prove above.

Again rankings depend upon parameters that can be manipulated easily. For example one parameter that defines ranking of a university is the percentage of candidates accepted to the university. Lower acceptance rates mean the university is more sought after. Most high ranking universities keep their application criterion low and approachable so more people are eligible to apply but select the same amount of top few candidates that they normally would. This artificially reduces the acceptance rate by a significant amount. Additionally if they are selling prospectuses they can make a lot of money by doing this so it’s a win-win scenario for them since most universities are often revenue focused.

A good non for profit university cannot be tied down with this structure.

i do get your point but you miss the whole premises. Ranking of UniversIty is biased in scope, the methodology adopted is not objective. Different organization with diffrent perspectives. Why don't you check on prestige instead of ranking. .University prestige is a bit different from university rankings. Prestige is not quantifiable, so it can’t easily be gamed like rankings. What rankings do is structure university admissions and research to maintain or improve each school’s rank, so quantifiable publication and admissions data become central. Stupid. So very stupid i must say.

Fair enough.

Ashesi is also ranked below Covenant by Webometrics and 4ICU (UniRank), so by what parameter(s) do you draw your conclusion of Ashesi being better than the former?
firstly understand how ranking system work, 41cu and webometric are only after web traffic. Which means the more you input a particular school into a search engine, the more the webometric database capture it and uses it as an evaluator. Convenant uni is more populated than ashesi and therefore more student are expected to use the search engine. Giving more recognition to covenant.

And to be sincere with you , there is so much bias among those doing the rankings or defining the algorithms, combined with the fact that universities vary in their areas of competence (MIT is a lot better than Harvard at producing engineers but Harvard is a lot better than MIT at producing physicians, for example) so that rankings are of very limited value

Do you realised many ranking organizations also ranks legon higher (i mean university of Ghana) bro, No single set of rankings is sufficient. Times higer does a good job of capturing high level reputation scores i agree , but are fairly easy to game if you're willing and able, because many of their metrics are game able and focus on campus level statistics which are malleable. It is just a matter of playing the game well. Will love to show a particular university in the usa that was rank between 168 but moved to 48 position in the consequent year.

You yourself can evaluate those school yourself without relying so much on the ranking system. Visit legon yourself and come back to compare it with convenant or perharps ashesi. Also try to look at global reputation. Legon command the highest respect in west africa and ashesi is gradually moving up. Legon had produce four Ghana sitting president( who are either economist or lawyers) Even UI can't pride himself on this.
Culture › Re: The Osogbo War Of 1840 by vaxx: 10:36am On Nov 06, 2018
aremuforlife:
THE OSOGBO WAR OF 1840

After the Fulanis systematically captured and made Ilorin their territory, they sacked the old Oyo Empire in 1835/1636 .

They were still not satisfied with their victory; they wished to extend their rule deep into the heart of Yoruba land. Thus in 1840, they set to capture Osogbo , a Yoruba town. The Fulanis, under the command of Ali , the Hausa balogun of Ilorin, laid siege on Osogbo.

When the king of Osogbo realized that the Ilorins were too strong for the Osogbo army, he summoned the Ibadans for help. Ibadan immediately sent some auxiliaries to Osogbo under the command of Obele alias Mobitan , and Alade Abimpagun. As this force could not stop the Ilorins, another contingent was sent to Osogbo under a more experienced leader. But still the Ilorins won every battle and gained more ground.

When Ibadan realized that the Ilorins were becoming more threatening to Yoruba land, they sent a large and stronger force under Balogun Oderinlo to crush the intruding forces and Jammas of Ilorin . When Oderinlo and his men arrived at the battlefield, they realized that things had gone worse than they thought.

They could not show their faces in the open field for the fear of the Ilorin horses, and for about 20 days after their arrival at Osogbo, they could not fight outside the town thickets. Oderinlo suggested that Elepo, a brave Ibadan warrior was badly needed at the war-front. Elepo had been rejected by the war-chiefs of Ibadan for his actions at the late Agbamaja expedition.

As soon as the message from Oderinlo reached Ibadan, the Bashorun wished he could send Elepo to Osogbo but could not go against the wish of other war-chiefs. The Bashorun gave Elepo a cow to worship his god, Ori , and pray for the victory of Ibadan at the war-front.

At the war-front, the Ibadan could not attack the Ilorins during the day because Osogbo was practically in a plain and the Ilorin horses might have advantage of them with disastrous results.

They decided to attack at dusk when the Ilorins would no longer be able to use their horses. About 2:pm, the well prepared Ibadan army left the gate of Osogbo for the battlefield. They were to keep a strict watch and arrest anyone suspected to be a spy.

About a mile from the Ilorin camp, they halted and arranged the order of the attack.

The Osogbo army and the earlier auxiliaries were to handle the center of the battlefield, chiefs Abitiko and Labuju were to command the right wing, Balogun Oderinlo with the rest of the Ibadan war-chiefs were to form the left wing of the army. The Ilorin camp was then attacked at midnight. The watchword was “ Elo ni owo odo? ” (How much is the ferry fare?).

The reason this watchword was chosen was because the river Osun had to be crossed in entering Osogbo from the south, and anyone who could not tell this was likely to be an enemy.

Stampede engulfed the Ilorin camp as the Ibadan army set it on fire. The Ilorins could not offer the slightest resistance; they were smoked with the gunpowder of the Ibadan guns.

This attack was a success for the Ibadan. Some Ilorin war-chiefs were captured in the attack. Prominent ones were:
1. Jimba the head slave of the Emir;
2. One of the sons of Ali the commander in chief;
3. Chief Lateju;
4. Ajikobo the Yoruba Balogun of Ilorin.
The first two were released while the latter two, being Yoruba by birth, were regarded as traitors and were executed. This was a huge victory for the whole of Yoruba land. After the Osogbo victory,
Ibokun, an Ijesa town not far from Osogbo was taken by the Ibadans for being an ally of Ilorin.
After this war, Ìbàdàn later became a force building a formidable war machinery than later prosecuted many other wars with resounding victory.
Notable among the wars was the KIRIJI WAR where the Ibadan warlords formed a historic alliance with the Igbajos. Even though Igbajo became the war front for many years that the war lasted, it was never captured by the raging Ekiti parapò warriors. Rather it was a place where many of them met their Waterloo.
Notable among the warriors were Fabunmi Okeemesi, Ogedengbe Agbogun gboro of the Ijesas, Apasikoto pasigegele of Igbajo and Latoosa of Ibadan to mention a few. There were many more great warriors of the time.
It's worthy to note that the KIRIJI WAR was the last war in Yoruba land. It's also recorded as the longest native war between in Africa.
Since then the Yoruba people have continued to build strong bonds among themselves and they have sustained the peace.

We must continue to tell our children the history of the Yoruba people and the bond which our father had built so that we can continue to see ourselves as one. If the Ibadan people can sacrifice their lives for the people of Osogbo in other to safe other towns and villages in Yoruba land and in essence the carnage of innocent people were prevented, then, we the modern Yorubas have no reason to divide ourselves for political reasons or any reason at all.
Our leaders must continue to put their lives in the forefront to safe the land from all aggression.
And we have the responsibility to support, to advise and to pray for all our leaders irrespective of political divide.

God bless our leaders,
God bless Yoruba land
God bless Nigeria.
Permission to copy this work sir. You just made my day....

And where can i get more profound history regarding the oshogbo war. It is very important.

One of the reasons Oyedepo is a role model to me is he has a way of identifying successful things and replicating it.
His thought process can be summarised into this "if that man can do this to get that result then i can copy what he did and get his results" Case study: his replication of Yongi Cho's 1 million congregation operations. The resemblance between Covenant and ORU is extraordinary, from compulsory chapel attendance to corporate dressing, the entrepreneurial drive of stanford. Till today Covenant doesn't take transfer students - even from the USA and never awards honorary degrees(deliberately cultivating prestige).

He followed Harvard's principle of not venturing into programmes they were not prepared for. Reason, why CU(richest private school) has never never ventured into Law or Medicine. It is not fear but strategy-A strategy that works for Harvard till tomorrow. When he declared Vision 10:2022, i'm sure NUC must have thought Oyedepo has actually gone mad grin No the man went and printed the vision everywhere on campus and kept repeating it to NUC anytime they visited. He led the management team to keep looking at the vision. I felt sorry for him that day he declared the vision. My lecturer was alarmed and felt insulted by the declaration of that vision, but today he is busy jumping telling everyone that CU is doing well. Now i don't feel sorry for him again. I now understand ridiculous ambitions are part of the 'Covenant Spirit'.

Oyedepo once said on visiting ORU, Texas. "If Roberts can build this here, then it can happen anywhere in the World". Today CU has surpassed the University on which it was spiritually modelled after-at least by Times Higher standard - very soon i would complete a book titled Oyedepo: A Man with an Asian soul becauae i am convinced he is a visionary radical.

Lee kuan yew of Singapore rarely did anything new to advance Singapore. In his words we simply copied other people's template and finetuned it to our own local need. This is the same brain power behind China's rise to prominence, they identify a problem, they study solutions of others and they go after it with everything they have. Case in study: China discovered its universities where lagging behind on all fronts. The country declared the "double first class mandate" which mandated 42 of China's best university to overtake western ones. Today, for the first time Tsinghua university China has surpassed Ntl Uni of Singapore as the best Asian institution and is coming close to Harvard and the likes while surpassing many other ivy leagues.

You can see what they are trying to do with their football league. China doesn't wait for the wind of positive change, they force it to blow in their direction.

That JF Kennedy's visionary spirit which says "Russia sent a man to the Space then America must send a man to the Moon" is very absent in Africa's leadership, dying out in Europe and on standstill in USA. And when few people try to stir the waters here in Africa we tell them many reasons why they can never succeed because we are too familiar with serial failures in govt.

Ifelola Olaleye
Do you know that no german university is in top 10 university ranking? Yet American and the rest of the world know that a graduate of german educational system has received quality education.

These rankings are weighted heavily towards research performance, which technically is irrelevant if you are just looking for a quality education as research quality and teaching quality are not the same (if anything there is likely a negative relationship between these.

The university should set it's gaze on Economics. Economics is a good place to start. The only problem would be in the area of policy adoption...

Africa is a fertile ground for Nobel Prizes because of the many challenges bedeviling the continent, so if the school can nurture specific young lecturers in Economics to pick up a problem and go after it with maximum vigour propelled by a funding pool larger than what they need, they would definitely come back with that coveted prize.
Then oyedepo is not realistic or maybe he has myopic mind on what it takes to win nobel laurel. Usually what it takes to win a Nobel in economics is to write the seminal paper in what will eventually become a vibrant subfield. If other researchers consistently cite you as the originator of the research program they are working in, that puts you in the running for a Nobel.

People typically win their Nobel about twenty or thirty years after making the contribution that will eventually win it for them. The work needs to stand the test of time.

New HIV drug kills 99 per cent of virus during first human trial

A new HIV drug created by Israeli researchers has passed its first human clinical trial.

At end of the trial, it was discovered that the drug, named Gammora, created by Zion Medical, an Israeli biotech company was capable of wiping out 99 per cent of HIV infected cells in the human body.

According to a statement released by the company and available on PR Newswire, Gammora was able to eliminate up to 90 per cent of the virus during the first four weeks of the trial.

Zion Medical developed the drug Gammora in collaboration with the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and the Sirion Biotech in Germany.

The drug is designed to attack and kill the HIV-infected cells in the human body without causing damage to the healthy cells.

In the study, researchers randomly assigned nine participating patients from the Ronald Bata Memorial Hospital in Uganda to receive different doses of Gammora between four to five weeks in July and August of this year.

While the new HIV drug is still in its first stage of exploration, the results have already offered hope that a cure for the dreaded virus is possible.

“Most patients showed a significant reduction of the viral load of up to 90 per cent from the baseline during the first four weeks,” said Dr. Esmira Naftalim, Zion Medical’s head of development.

I am sure in the next few years we will get vaccine for HiV that will permanently prevent it. It is in the pipeline. My worries now is diabetics, it does not even free we the younger one.

Understood - but the point I was making is the very wide definition of who may be called a teacher. You are OK to extend this to kindergarten teachers. How far are you willing to go? Baby sitters nko?
it is not about how far i am willing to go , it is what shouild be reasonable. Ok what if i extend to nanny that should be lower than baby sitters. They are all into child care which is very important because their care is the reason for your child's behaviour and culture which will question your parenting or will appreciate your parenting and it's a responsibility of every parent to teach their children about moral ethics and behaviours etc. So child care is very important because an ugly childhood will produce a beast in the society

Why?
Because they are in a profession that will make you who you are. Everybody is somebody because of their parents, mentors and teachers. I feel they deserve it and their position demands immense respect.

24hoursreporter:
We are in a political period again! As usual, we tend to heard different stories and scandals. For certain reasons, some Nigerians have decided not to vote again. In fact, these people only register for their Permanent Voters Card to have a means of identification not voting purpose.

In this article, 24hoursreporter has come up with the top 5 reasons why some Nigerians don’t vote. The reasons stated here were arrived at after a survey of voters in different regions across the country.

Top 5 Reasons Why Some Nigerians Don’t Vote

#1. When Both Candidates Are Terrible

When both candidates are terrible, most voters may end up not voting any of them. They believe that it is better they don’t vote any candidate than voting for the available ones on ground, especially when they have bad records in the past.

#2. They Believe That The Election Will Always Be Rigged

One of the reasons why some Nigerians don’t vote is their belief that the election will always be rigged. Many Nigerians out there believe that their votes may not really count as the election will always be rigged by the highest bidder.

Well, this is not always true as voters votes still count. The fact that you refuse to vote for this flimsy reason may pave way for an undeserving candidate to rule you.

#3. When Their Candidates Of Choice Wasn’t Nominated

Sometimes, the result of parties primaries can make people be politically apathetic especially when their candidates of choice weren’t nominated. You must agree with me that voting in Nigeria is really very stressful especially if you are in a populated environment.

So, some people may not want to undergo the rigorous process of accreditation and voting, especially when the candidate they love so much was denied party ticket.

#4. The Fear of Violence

The fear of violence is among the reasons why some Nigerians don’t vote. Ordinarily, there are people who would have loved to vote, but the fear of violence in polling units prevent them from going out to cast their votes.

There are instances were Youth corpers and other innocent citizens are killed during elections. You see, somebody whose close friend or relative is killed in an election violence will definitely not smell a polling unit. Those who have been there before can relate.

#5. The Country Is Screwed My Vote Will Not Fix it

This is also one of the reasons why some Nigerians don’t vote. They believe that from time immemorial leaders have always been self-centered.

From unemployment, hardship, some state not paying workers and many more, they always blame these situations on leaders in the past. For this reason, they have decided not to vote again as politicians will always disappoint.

This is not true, to everyone. I choose not to vote because i cannot face the hectic system.. Believe me the registration/voting process is hectic. You need to register for a voter's card and it is only if you can endure the rigorous process of staying on a long queue while standing in the sun for hours and i found that as a big waste of time. Not even good for my health .

It occur to me we could develop a voting system using the blockchain technology behind Bitcoin which is a decentralised peer to peer money transfer system. I hope cryptographic experts can brainstorm on this possibility to allow transparency, integrity and more participation in our elections.Till then count me out.

Look at the system you want me to be part of. Thank God i am not even at home.

Why do so many people just carelessly say "Teachers?"
There are so many levels and types of teachers that its ridiculous to simply just say "Teachers".
Would you consider that that a nursery school teacher for example should earn more than a neuro surgeon? ? ?
probably Yes.....
