But all those scenes couldn't be more than 5minutes altogether na. Did you hate the rest of the film? I've not seen it sha but I've loved all the mutation films I've seen since Regeneration, The Fly, Hollow Man etc. I don't Splice to be any different

I heard about this movie. Didn't think the idea was bad. Maybe it was too graphic for you? Telling a story accurately doesn't have to please you na. Lol. No vex. Genetic manipulation is a real real thing. It won't be long (if it's not being done already) before they seek to better the human genome and do away with our weak links, if you know what I mean

A look the U.S. Box Office now

1. Despicable Me
Starring: Steve Carell, Jason Segel, Russell Brand, Kristen Wiig

It gets favourable reviews but I'm not that interested in it. And it's first. Americans love their CGI.

2. The Twilight Saga: Eclipse
Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, Ashley Greene

Fans will always tell you it does the book no justice etc but I don't I'll read even the book. They should name this thing "You can't eat your cake and have it". Won't bother seeing it even if I get the chance to. Someone described it as the least laughable of the three installments. I dunno how many more they have in their banks but I heard they agreed to split what could have been one installment into two movies next year. Can't blame the actors na. Everybody in just reaching puberty loves them.

3. Predators
Adrien Brody, Alice Braga, Danny Trejo, Topher Grace

It doesn't flop as resoundingly as I thought it would. Even though I didn't think the new adaptation would be as closely related to the original. If Arnold doesn't talk, he's still an ageless and iconic action hero.

4. Toy Story 3
Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, Don Rickles

Toy Story 3 has been around a while and is giving Wall-E a run for its money as an emotion laden movie. I just stopped to think, I have never seen Tom Hanks in a movie that I didn't like. Not since BIG. NONE. And I've seen many many of his films. Remarkable!

5. The Last Airbender
Jackson Rathbone, Cliff Curtis, Dev Patel, Nicola Peltz

My younger brothers watch the cartoon but I don't. They say it sucks to high heavens and it is a disgrace to 3D (like they've seen anything in 3D). M. Night is reaching his twilight.

6. Grown Ups
Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, Rob Schneider

Look at the cast. Look at the cast. Look at the cast. Look at the CAST!

7. Knight & Day
Tom Cruise, Cameron Diaz, Peter Sarsgaard, Viola Davis

Bleh. Cruise and Diaz do well together. Sw something about this movie on E! but I don't hang around that channel long. Bleh still.

8. The Karate Kid
Jaden Smith, Jackie Chan, Taraji P. Henson, Han Wenwen

Everybody loves Jackie Chan and I somehow managed to watch The Spy Next Door and I thought that was a silly movie even for silly Jackie. This is not bad but everyone loves the 1984 version better.

9. The A-Team
Liam Neeson, Bradley Cooper, Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, Sharlto Copley

I only started watching re-runs of this show like last year and Mr. T (?) is just hideous. I don't really like it and I wouldn't even check the trailer out if not for Liam. I dunno what to expect from the movie really. Trailers are like healers.

10. Cyrus
John C. Reilly, Jonah Hill, Marisa Tomei, Catherine Keener

Unfortunately, I don't like the kinda humour John. C. offers. Only liked him in Magnolia and Boogie Nights, two closely related and not really comedic films, which is kinda what this film is like. Hmmn. . . .

Highly anticipated movies next (by me anyways)

Opened in theaters but yet to land naija is. . . . .

Inception!

"Dream a little bigger" will soon become a mantra, a small movement, I'm sure of it. Chris Nolan people. Leonardo People. Who's this? Watanabe? Enough said.

Sorcerer's Apprentice.

People say there's a spark of life back in Nicholas Cage's eyes. I've had a tiny spot for since The Rock but seeing Bangkok Dangerous hasn't helped his cause much. I watched Bad Lieutenant halfway but gave up. If what they say is true, I might just see this for old times sake. Plus I'm a sucker for magic.

[flash=400,400]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K7ZL3XjwL0E&hl=en_US&fs=1[/flash]

Valhalla Rising.

To be perfectly honest, I only really just like the title of this film. It seems it will be worth it though. Gory but I'm skeptical about the theme. We'll see.

[flash=400,400]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DhcaLsVB4dw&hl=en_US&fs=1[/flash]

Paranormal Activity 2.

I was surprised the last time about what they achieved with such a low budget. I'm amazed they're attempting to do it again and critics are saying the movie is sheer terror.

[flash=400,400]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9qt_002jXjs&hl=en_US&fs=1[/flash]

Resident Evil: AfterLife

Normally, I'd say they were pushing it but I liked the first two, the third one was like Legion (not so good) but let's see how the human race picks itself up, no?

[flash=400,400]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HM_gl76O328&hl=en_US&fs=1[/flash]

Salt

This is another one that got my attention not because of the usual suspects. I just like the way Jolie set her face on the covers. Welcome back to your haven baby. Welcome back

Sorry soulless wraiths want to get the worst outta me. Stupid mosquitoes think I'm Jesus and they need my blood for salvation. I'm not a little pissed. I'm a fire breathing dragon but y'all are small fish to fry, unworthy of my breath. I'm too old for all this shitty play acting.

Ariblaze, the next composition about committing suicide better be from heaven, sorry, hell. Grow some cojones and tell Sisi you don't sleep without fantasizing about a white picket fence surburbian life with her. It reminds me of Stephen King's Misery. Good luck

Kay, you're now officially Blaze's screwbuddy. Enough said. I don't have the heart to yab you, only console you. Wear diapers. But just for dessert, slap the first mopol you meet and come back to tell me how tough you are.

Bluespice, you want to marry a super gay (recessive jealous of Sino type) whose bisexual, heart broken and suicidal partner fantasizes about Sisikill (your heartthrob's secretary) and creams himself. And the olive in the martini, he doesn't even want you. You have a major cretin/vermin fetish

All others, Jesus loves you. Use a condom if you must play. Don't drink and drive. Go to school and actually graduate. Don't look V in the eye.

Christianity Etc › Re: Four Noble Truths by vescucci(m): 5:06pm On Jul 15, 2010
All because of staggering. And doctrine. From frying pan to fire. Pastor, you sef bad o. Inasmuch as I perceive a sense of futility about Deepsight, I'll attempt to put some things in perspective.

Staggering is after all a relative term. What is staggering to someone might not be so to another person. It has to do with background knowledge.

Doctrine to me is a belief or set of beliefs on which a set of practices, conduct or state of mind is based and in which lack of belief compromises or totally dismisses one as a follower in the faith that propagates it. It is what separates Muslims from Jews and Catholics from Protestants and not whether you should turn the other cheek or not.

Beliefs are things that are borrowed and exchanged among many civilizations and cultures of old. It is not altogether unexpected that there should be similarities in myths, legends and doctrine provided it is among religions that have been in contact with one another. Except you think the similarities in mythology between the Greek and Romans are surprising. In my opinion, doctrine by its very nature presupposes an aura of exclusiveness such that anything two religions have in common is likely not doctrine. This is not to say there are no cases of this, I just think there aren't many and certainly not staggeringly so.

In conclusion, if Columbus got to America and found Native Americans going to some sort of mass and taking communion, that will count as staggering similarity. If in 500 years, a new religion is morphed in Brazil with Exu as the centre of worship, I won't be surprised at any similarities it has with traditional Yoruba religion.

As far as I'm concerned, the only puzzle in similarity is how Mayan pyramids look like Egyptian ones.

Christianity Etc › Re: Is Everyone Born With Original Sin? by vescucci(m): 10:13am On Jul 14, 2010
Na wa o. I think I need to rephrase. I'm just getting misunderstood all over the place. What I was saying is that even atheists, who have no concept of God who can either punish or reward them, still do good when they have nothing to gain and desist from evil when they have nothing to lose. What I'm saying is that we have the same capacity to do good as to do evil.

I cannot believe that such a concept as original sin can be reduced to biology. So there sin in our blood. Our actual blood! Unbelievable. And this sin is gotten from the male only. So original sin is in effect a sexually transmitted disease. Wow. If Matthew was resurrected today, modern Christians will teach him a lot of new things. No doubt about it.
Christianity Etc › Re: Is Everyone Born With Original Sin? by vescucci(m): 1:55am On Jul 14, 2010
Don't burst a gut. If I wasn't communicating clearly, it's my fault. But you should have asked for clarification. Instead, you were reading the opposite of what I meant as if it were definitive and lucid.

Some atheists who believe they have no God to answer to refrain from evil even when they can get away with it[b],[/b] from the good of their hearts.

Happy now?

Christianity Etc › Re: Islamic Militants Again: Kill 64 Watching World Cup by vescucci(m): 1:24am On Jul 14, 2010
Your first four paragraphs would have sufficed.

You cannot blame the Christians though. People are generally more pliable than they are willing to admit. And daily doses of Islamophobia and propaganda doesn't help a bit. Someone sees a news item and first instinct is to rush to inform his brothers as if they can hate the religion any more. It's a condition of the mind

No Abrahamic religion has a moral high ground. If you wanna call people names, go become a Buddhist. It's the human beings that have problems.
Christianity Etc › Re: Is Everyone Born With Original Sin? by vescucci(m): 1:08am On Jul 14, 2010
aletheia:
Why would they need to refrain from evil, only when they can get away with it? Is there some penalty that will accrue if they cannot get away with refraining from evil? Why not refrain from evil all the time?
You were too much in a hurry to make a point that you saw the opposite of what I said and meant. Do you suppose anyone does evil only when they will get caught and refrain when it's like taking candy away from a baby?
Politics › Re: New Attacks On Christians In Kaduna State by vescucci(m): 12:29am On Jul 14, 2010
People spread rumours for no other reason than the silly sensation it builds. Some cattle farmers in one outskirt village had a dispute about something and some people died and it is suddenly a religious war? In the north, the 'Muslims' are mostly from a certain set of tribes and the 'Christians' are mostly from another set of tribes. When they fight, it looks like it is religious but it is actually tribal. And the 'Christians' kill as many of the Muslims as the other way round. They're not sitting ducks minding their business.

It's just as if Tutsi people were predominantly Muslim and Hutu (?) were predominantly Christian. It won't be long before they start seeing their religions as extensions of their tribes. And it won't be long before people call if religious warfare. It's the same with Arabs and Jews.

Northerners are generally very violent and temperamental. Why don't Muslims kill Christians in other parts of the country? And vice versa?
Christianity Etc › Re: Is Everyone Born With Original Sin? by vescucci(m): 11:47pm On Jul 13, 2010
I have huge problems with the original sin doctrine but I'll be succinct and won't get into expletives.

If Adam wasn't suffering from original sin syndrome, how come he sinned?

If God loved/loves us that much, I think we all wouldn't mind if he stopped him from procreating and He created another prototype without the freaking blot of sin. I believe we're all unique and sort of equal and parents and offspring is just a matter of who came first. I will exist if I came through other parents. I might have different looks and predicament but my spirit will be the same. So I don't necessary have to come from Adam.

To cut a long story short, if we have a sinful nature, it is not because Adam disobeyed God. It is because we're created that way. We have free will. Someone said why do kids naturally gravitate towards being naughty. Do you suppose God came down from heaven to teach their parents the good they in turn teach their wards? It is a ridiculous argument. Man gravitates towards both good and evil and the dominant one determines whether you're a good person or not. Some atheists who believe they have no God to answer to refrain from evil when they can get away with it from the good of their hearts. Falling in love, if you believe such a thing exists, is enough to disprove original sin. Sometimes, you just love someone no matter how much pain he/she brings you and sometimes it is illogical.

No original sin. Just freewill. No one is free from sin so I accept everybody sins but I'm sure even Hitler can point to one act of kindness he did without any hope of reward or fear of punishment.

[size=3pt]And I said, I'll be succinct tongue[/size]

Lol, Nuke.

Una dey make me fear. I think the major problem stems from the use of too many big words. It's easy to get mistaken and to get manipulated with those. I don't think it is anybody's desire to actually lie though there may be a dubious penchant to call other people liars. We should understand each other better. When one is misunderstood, one should explain his position. When a position is explained, one should not contrast it with a previous misinformed position for it makes no sense for anybody to hold two contrary views. There's nothing to gain or lose by lying here. Nothing to gain by misleading anyone. So I don't think anyone deliberately sets out to do this. Our talks shouldn't be competitive but simply informative. I might think someone's view is utterly stoopid but it remains that person's view.

Pastor is averse to being boxed in. I noticed that in a thread long ago where the main participants were Deepsight and Pastor. But it is not a crime. One cannot submit to a title one has no control over. You cannot allow yourself to be called a Christian, for example, when you have no control over the connotations the word carries. Or you'll have to be explaining yourself over and over again. It is a sensible position.

Deep_Sight likes to be a lawyer and forgets not everyone double checks the dictionary meaning of the words they use. I have to say some people have been careless with their choice of words and a simple recant or correction might have saved a lot of trouble but they instead choose to illogically defend their position. Curious. But Deep_Sight sort of sees things in black and white. Logic driven. I like that. I'm comfortable with that but that does not go down well with 'religious' people. He doesn't take things personal but people seem to think he does. For instance he might say "that is a stoopid conclusion" and the person he is addressing might think "he thinks I'm stoopid?". Deep_sight is not very diplomatic.

So far, I'm comfortable with Nuclearboy. Rarely if ever, ambiguous. MyJoe doesn't get agitated. A tremendous quality here. Dunno MavenBox except that either he/she and everybody seem incapable of deciding whether he/she is male or female.

Mad_Max is very religious and sensitive to tone. M_Nwankwo is gentle and practices what he preaches, if he preaches. Vesc just likes to learn and ask questions and psycho-analyse people

So let's get back on topic shall we? No offence everybody.
