Saw Transamerica.

You're most welcome.

Religious people do many things that make no sense. Most religions are very old and worse, utterly detached from any form of science and I believe they only had a limited understanding of how infathombly big the universe is. They can not be entirely absolved of the folly in believing they're the be-all as far as the universe is concerned but I think their wrong is a little exaggerated for it's easier to believe there's life out there than to believe in God at all. Copernicus, himself a member of the Church, dared not put forth his discoveries of the simple fact that the earth revolved around the sun and people who simply believed him were subjected to endless scorn if they were not outright tortured or killed. So I see your point in saying there's a haughty way about religious people. But it is not really the fault of religion. It is the fault of people because they just have to dress up beliefs about infallibility of a book or books and insistence on a way of life that is clearly outdated and such. It is the human nature that's at fault here. Also I might rephrase your statement and say we believe we're the only creatures who has a concept of the universe because we haven't met any other similar creature. I don't believe in aliens. I concede they might exist but not that they'd come here and hence become aliens and I think their 'existence' was borne out of the desire for galaxial company. Even though there's 6billion of us, compared to just the milky way, we are lonely.

Tudor. You old o, lol. As I've said before, it's only possible to prove that something exists. It's virtually impossible to prove something doesn't exist. The onus of proof lies on the person that wants to force his own beliefs down my throat. I don't care if no one believes in God and you can't convince someone to believe. It's impossible. It's not a prerequisite to being a good person.
Christianity Etc › Re: Atheism And Religion by vescucci(m): 2:33pm On Jul 03, 2010
Lol. Tudor. I apologise but that was just a hyperbole. Ya know, for effect? Almost everybody with an opinion is egotistic.

@Homer. First, when I used the term 'atheist', I meant atheists on nairaland and not atheists in general. I've only met like a half a dozen in real life and the common denominator with them is a good brain. Sorry. However among the ones on nairaland you're one of the other types who are truly concerned about the negative effects of religion. I've never seen you lose your cool or act condescendingly. Right now is an example. If it were someone else. . . . . .

Meanwhile religions don't really lay claim to be the object of most importance to the whole universe, merely the earth. Correct me if I'm wrong o

Christianity Etc › Re: Atheism And Religion by vescucci(m): 1:22am On Jul 03, 2010
Sadly atheists have the biggest egos man has ever encountered. There is nothing that motivates them other than the normal human desire to win other people to one's way of thinking and the haughty desire to look down their nose on other people. I think postings on forum games and celebrity etc are stupid but I don't go there to tell them so. That'd be more stupid. But not all of them are like this. Some rightfully think religion is a terrible thing and desire to wake people up from their delusions.

I'm not gay. In fact I'm homophobic but I respect people's right to do what they want if it's not in my face or to any other person's detriment.

The declaration of independence or some other national document has a phrase that includes 'the pursuit of happiness'. Why is this extremely hard to understand for people?
Christianity Etc › Re: Christianity Or Hypocrisy by vescucci(m): 12:33am On Jul 03, 2010
Na wa o. It may be a ridiculous conclusion but it is mine and mine alone. I didn't say accept it or I will cut off your head, did I? I am using my own reasoning and because no one told me doesn't mean it is not so. Besides, I made provision for the alternative that if they indeed came together to create the world together, so please do not kill me sir.

Believe it or not, I find it ridiculous to believe that God exists. But I believe He does (or they do if you like). There is reason for this too. I find it even more ridiculous to believe that God doesn't exist. So it is like choosing the lesser of two ridiculous things. If your poser will be for me to prove God exists, I'll ask you to prove He doesn't. The reason why people use the term 'believe' is because it cannot be proven. Otherwise, people would go about saying I know God exists but these people are just those that are overly sentimental. The type that will give God credit for every good that befalls them and blame the devil for every evil.

Calm down, mazaje, I am not your opponent. All I have are opinions. Awesome mazaje

I understand you Jenwitemi. I agree with you even. But that is simply human nature that once we think we're right about something, the next course of action is to convince the whole world of our convictions. That is the reason why atheists bother with other people who believe in God even though there's nothing in it for them other than gratification and the euphoria of being right. World power shifts throughout the ages and the way of life of the world powers is dominant on earth. If the Yoruba people were so powerful, George Bush would be Gongo Bale or something. Anyways our discussion is moot. No point continuing.

@Mazaje. Lol, calm down na. Since you don't believe in God, I could say it was a ridiculous claim cuz not everything you don't see doesn't exist. Mathematically, even, it is impossible to prove something doesn't exist. It is possible to prove something exists. And according to you, it would be as ridiculous to believe in one God as it is to believe in numerous Gods, no? So why get antsy. In any case, even if there were many beings that transcend our mental grasp, they surely cannot agree to create this world together and the one responsible for nurturing our universe is the one I refer to as God. And if they all agree and form some kinda council to create our universe, then this collection is what I refer to as God. It is immaterial. Do you understand me, awesome mazaje?

Christianity Etc › Re: Disbelief In Yahweh As The Creator God by vescucci(m): 2:06am On Jul 02, 2010
Now I understand you perfectly jenwitemi. I should have asked you what you believed in the first place instead of being a pain in the backside.

I'll just say this though. Your means of determining these attributes of the creator God are no different from the fella that said a burning bush was talking to him. If you say it is all-loving, I want to know the consequence of that love since this world sucks. Then if it doesn't care to be worshiped or even acknowledged, what is the point of its existence? It would seem we have more purpose than it.

I respect your views entirely but I will discontinue with trying to pick your brain because we won't agree on much and in this section that is cause for serious alarm. I wish to make no nemesis. I might read though.

JeSoul! Chai! Wetin I do you na? I be the altar boy among cardinals here o. Wetin I know?
Christianity Etc › Re: Christianity Or Hypocrisy by vescucci(m): 1:42am On Jul 02, 2010
Screw the topic. It's banal anyways.

Yes, God is a term. That really is what I meant. Sorry for the poor choice of words. But my point is no matter how hard you imagine Sango, he probably only exists as a human and died and poof. He does not exist as a god and so do all other false deities. There can be only one God. We have to call Him something and we don't all have to agree what we call Him either. We may say He asks us to do things He didn't but that's irrelevant to His being.

Ok, I understand you small. You think God may or may not have a name and if He does, it isn't any of the ones which we have tagged Him with but perhaps something He calls Himself. Am I right so far? What I'm saying is that God is God. A Jew won't accept that Allah is his Yahweh and a Christian won't accept that God the father is Allah and this can be extrapolated across all religions, yet God is. How then do we know which one is the true one since He doesn't think it is necessary to show Himself to us clearly. Who do you think it is or you simply have a personal communion with Him? I'm just curious here o. I'm not one of the hot heads

So Jesus is coming to kick ass on his second coming? No mercy, no prisoners taken, no more He loves me? I've been wondering why he seemed to contrast so sharply with the god of the OT.

God, I'm so confused. Why doesn't he just put me out of my misery?

Christianity Etc › Re: The New Testament Is Based On Belief In The One And Only God. by vescucci(m): 2:58pm On Jul 01, 2010
Religion, religion, freaking religion. Hate words all the time. Is it not possible to be different without being hated? Christianity and Islam have too many things in common for anyone to think he has a moral high ground to point fingers and call one satanic. If my belief in God wasn't so ingrained and I can't escape it, I'd opt to be atheist. Or maybe Buddhist. Good Muslims or Christians won't use cuss words or hateful tones. The only people I've met in this section that show a true representation of what they claim is JeSoul and Mnwankwo. Jeez. So much hate in the world. It's even infectious.
Romance › Re: Break-ups: Who Is To Be Blamed? by vescucci(m): 2:40pm On Jul 01, 2010
Guys also want the perfect girl. People who break up rarely just break up instantaneously. Most of them will be harboring the notion for quite some time and will look for some ridiculous thing that ordinarily should be worked out and use it as cause to break up. They'll act so hurt and uncompromising and the other fellow will be defensive not knowing that he or she was done for ages ago. No one is to be blamed from your perspective. People do what people do
Romance › Re: Can This Marriage Work Out? by vescucci(m): 2:37pm On Jul 01, 2010
Personally there is a problem with the words husband and wife. It connotes a role. I don't very much like the term partner for it makes it seem like a contract that can be ratified any time but it is still the best term in my opinion. Maybe life partner.

My point is that we've conditioned our thinking that a man must be the bread winner and must earn more than the wife and when he achieves this, it is alright for him to get all high and mighty and demand for food like a king and demand for his laundry to be done etc. Also women who complain that a man treats them badly won't marry the one they love but the one they feel can take care of them at the expense of their dignity. I don't wanna ramble too much but love is the paramount ingredient in a marriage. With that anything can be worked out. No one is inferior to the other. It doesn't make you less man to cook for your wife but it shouldn't be your duty. Nothing should be a duty in a marriage.
