Romance › Re: Are The Men More Emotional Than The Women? by vescucci(m): 2:29pm On Jul 01, 2010
In a few words I'd say humans are humans. Men are emotional just as women are. An average man only has more control over it than an average woman. So a man hitting his wife is probably a coward and a woman hitting her husband is probably spoilt.

Firstly I don't think any body can be ready for his coming. Some people may be prepared but certainly no one is ready. But in any case the anti-christ is supposed to come before Christ, no? So you ought to be more prepared for that one. And that one I don't even think it's possible to be prepared or ready.

Acidosis. Don't get defensive Acid. The very fact that I mentioned hypocrites presupposes the existence of genuine Christians. All I'm saying is there are more hypocritical Christians than there are any other group and not that any way is right or wrong. If a suicide bomber believes he is doing the right thing, he is not hypocritical but he couldn't be more lost.

Jenwitemi. I don't understand you. Are you saying God does not exist because He has no name. God is a name for God is it not? It means nothing but God. You're Jenwitemi. If I know you and call you, Jen, you might argue that that is not your name or even that you have no name but does that mean you don't exist? Hydrogen is called hydrogen because we chose to do so. Hydrogen doesn't complain. I don't get. Do you believe in an entity that governs the workings of the universe or do you not?
Christianity Etc › Re: Obama's Unbiblical Declaration by vescucci(m): 11:41am On Jul 01, 2010
At the birth of the U.S. everyone was Christian or Christian like. So it is only natural that it be founded on Christian terms. Not many would have imagined that the nation would be so diversified in the future. In fact, if the population of the United States were analysed one might say it was oppressive with its Christian themes. Why don't other religious groups get their own holidays etc but you seem to want an Aryan state or something. You're trying to safeguard the integrity of the ideas of the founding fathers who didn't have a problem with slavery or a mini ethnic cleansing of Native Americans. I submit that the founding fathers are more occultic and anti-christ like than Obama or even Bush can ever hope to be
Christianity Etc › Re: Disbelief In Yahweh As The Creator God by vescucci(m): 11:29am On Jul 01, 2010
I forgot. Some of you talk of Jews as if you talk of Aboriginals. Jews were not Jews until Jacob and their worship of God cannot be likened to idol worship for they had already seen the futility in that. As far as I'm concerned, when one has an abstract notion of a being that is all-powerful and beyond and doesn't liken it to an object or man, this concept is God. It matters not what you call Him or how you came about this concept. So in essence the reason why Jews are Jews is because they believe in one God and nothing else. Whether they attribute myths and legends to Him doesn't make Him non-existent. I don't think anyone has a true and accurate picture of God. But He is there. Simply there

I'm sorry but I have to say this is just semantics. You cannot judge Hebrew by English lexis and structural terms. You may be correct but there's no basis for comparison moreso, this is a language that existed before reading and writing was common.

Validator has a valid point. But if man's perception of God is always subjective, does that not mean it would be impossible to ever really know Him then?

Pastor AIO made a point also that I find very cool. It's really worthy of note that the Yoruba God is as such and that is why a Yoruba Muslim or Christian has no trouble substituting Olodumare for Jesus or Allah as the case may be

Many people say many things that are very ambiguous but enchanting but they say it as if it were fact. Deep Sight has apparently a deep sight, lol. He is very introspective and won't believe a thing simply because it is easy to believe or because it is cute and cuddly to do so either. I just had to say that.

As regards your musings, I have thought of similar things and I won't bore you with them but the ultimate bus stop is that it would appear a Hindu or a Muslim or a Christian with sufficient faith juice would be capable of this feat and it is nothing but spirituality (another entry into the esoteric handbook) and has nothing to do with communion with God and that frankly is all I am concerned about.

I remember when I read Foucault's Pendulum. I started to think that the 'supernatural' is not supernatural but just natural that we have not found out or have little control over and has nothing to do with God. In other words, supernatural powers do not necessarily have to come from God or the devil. One can simply attain such a state. I unfortunately am not interested in this.

Christianity Etc › Re: Jehovah's Witnesses: the only true religion? by vescucci(m): 12:54am On Jul 01, 2010
I used to like this version of Christianity best mostly because of their simplicity and their practice-what-you-preach nature. Some people find them intrusive but I find them quite nice and I've read and own some of their major publications (Mankind Searchs for God is a very good book and they manage to be as objective as possible). I always read Awake (beautiful source of information) but politely decline Watchtowers cuz they are too, erm, how do say? Pat?

Later I found that other Christians hated them with a passion almost rivaled by their hate of Muslims. They call them things like cult and heretical mongrels. Even my ex had a few bad words for them. This is an unfair position and apart from their don't take blood transfusions even if death stares you in the face bit (reminds me of Sagittarians Battlestar Galactica) and the 144 000 thnigie, I find very little to take offence to. Their positions are lucid and clear and not mind boggling and apologetic.

I have many friends that JW and if I were to recommend a version of Christianity to an alien friend, it'll be JW. The only thing I find a little unsettling is the way it seems as if they're setting things up for the arrival of the anti-christ maybe? Lol, just kidding.

Christianity Etc › Re: Disbelief In Yahweh As The Creator God by vescucci(m): 12:35am On Jul 01, 2010
I dunno about Yahweh.

I know there is God. I know many civilizations recognize this and call him by many names. If you say God did something He didn't do, it doesn't make Him go poof! I as many people have issues with God of the OT but this is where my train of thoughts go radical.

You have just asserted that God should be benevolent, nice, awesome etc. But what if He is not? What if He is absolutely everything the OT says He is? I do not think this is true but I just wonder why people who say we project the worst of us on Him do not see the other side of this reasoning. He coulda swooped down and shown Himself and I can bet you that will stop all (or most of evil). I think God is so far above us that someone cutting off the neck of someone else, though evil, is so minute when compared to the bliss the dead person will enjoy. We eat animals, don't we? Nobody gets teary when eating a burger. You say they don't have souls. Who says so. How do you know? I don't think they have souls either but I just want people to stop thinking in a box. If you think God ought not to be anything but pure love, I'd tell you that if he were pure hate, the world would not be much worse. Some people like to use bacteria to describe how we must look to God or vice versa. Do you really care which pathogen is killing which? No you don't

So, I don't know if Yahweh is God but I know that there is God and He ought not to be changing His character all over the place. It makes Him hard to follow when He is murdering people in one page and delivering people in another.
Christianity Etc › Re: Obama's Unbiblical Declaration by vescucci(m): 12:26am On Jul 01, 2010
Lol. I thought it was a stand up comedy joke that Obama was the Anti-Christ. Lawd have mercy. Obama is the American President and as such his interest is America and not anyone's religious views. If he were hindu, would that make him less American. What am I even saying. If he were gay, does that make him more or less American? He would not then become President and impose his views on everyone. If he truly thinks there should be a gay pride month and declared as such, fine, he's a good President. If he doesn't think homosexuality is cool but declares a gay pride month regardless, then he is a great President.

Anti-Christ. Obama. Wow

I have issues with homosexuality sef. I'll find a thread to address them

Lol, Debosky. I can tell you with certainty that it is only on Nairaland, religion section that people make crazy claims and ask you to prove them wrong. It's amazing!
Christianity Etc › Re: Christianity Or Hypocrisy by vescucci(m): 12:18am On Jul 01, 2010
Well, I am very reluctant to say that I find this very true. I used to live with a friend of my dad's in Abuja for a spell. He had a wife who (as I later confirmed could bear no children) but she lived far away because his job takes him around. He is quite frankly a bible-thumper. An obsessed girl that used to bother me and him will harangue me to make me accept Jesus etc but I'd just smile cuz they're not even the type to reason with. Later girls would come to spend the night and he'd move to my room to give the girl privacy. Later he would move to my room and I would think nothing of it. Maybe he is too tired or they're catching up. Later another girl would come and another and another. I think they were about 5 and two of them were regulars. By this time, I think, he didn't care what I thought for he wouldn't come to my room. Funny thing is I kept making excuses for him because I just didn't wanna accept that he was cheating and not only with one but multiple women and he'd also not care what I thought. My obsessed girl friend got friendly with one of the regulars and she told me that the regular told her that they have sex all the time. I thought my friend likes to back bite and I continued to create silly excuses in my head. One day, I found a condom wrap and I couldn't make any excuse around that one. You don't need condoms to masturbate, I thought. I soon after moved out and I couldn't tell my dad anything of course. Later I overheard my mum discussing with someone else that this dude aborted a pregnancy. I'm sorry for I'm getting besides myself here but this guy never misses church, offerings, tithes, cassettes and videos of baba preaching, his olive oil and magazines, many conventions and revivals and vigils. The problem is Christianity (as least the version bandied around) gives the impression that as long as you do some things (most of them that the pastor says) you can get away with other things and someone has died for your sins and what's the point of that sacrifice if you were sinless. You might as well sin to the high heavens to really take advantage of that offer.

Hypocrisy cuts across all people and all religion but I find it steeper in Christianity for the born again dude now will most likely be a tithe collector in a decade.
Christianity Etc › Re: Win Asia For Christ by vescucci(m): 12:01am On Jul 01, 2010
Funny thread. I was gonna get all preachy till I read Akwasi's response to some people. In short, if people were like you, Akwasi, there'd be nothing wrong with the world. I just hope it's not false modesty though. I hate that even more. Akwasi, yours is a daunting task but a very naive one (no offence at all as that seems to be the MO here). Point your efforts where it will be more fruitful. I do not think God will punish anyone for being ignorant of something but I think it makes more sense to make 'Christians' real Christians first than to bother with the ones that'll probably ask Vishnu to visit you or want to cut off your head or roll over your house with a tank. Good luck though, as someone said, you'll need oceans of it.
Christianity Etc › Re: Do You Belief In Wichcraft? by vescucci(m): 11:55pm On Jun 30, 2010
I sort of believe in 'witchcraft' but I'm afraid not in the same sense I suspect here and not even as hard. Any belief in God sort of requires the belief in negative spiritual forces. So in a word, if you believe in God you ought to believe in 'witchcraft'. Witchcraft is overrated but it is not non-existent.

If you put 'ebo' in my room, I'll pick it up and throw it in the trash can and apart from wondering who put it there, I'll sleep like a baby that night. However, I will not enter any shrine for no reason. Why take the chance, eh?
Christianity Etc › Re: How Do Religion Lead Nigerians Backward ?. by vescucci(m): 11:47pm On Jun 30, 2010
You should substitute Nigerians for humanity. It makes it sound as if we were a separate case though there is credit to this reasoning also. Religion can be defined many a way but it is only harmful if you can't keep your delusions to yourself. And I say delusions because we are all deluded depending on who's looking. Nothing can be proven. So as long as you accept that one man's delusion is not inferior or superior to your own all will be well and the world will be a better place but unfortunately this is not the case.

Also your thread title says how. Well, Mr. Yerima (the ) married a 13 year old and some of us are outraged, some are defensive and some are indignant but the buffoon has gotten away with it if I'm not mistaken. Cozy somewhere laughing at us all. That is an example. It can be debated the legality of his marriage in Islamic terms and even in Christian terms and certainly in Jewish terms but the fact of the matter is that the scallywag is a Nigerian senator and should respect the Nigerian constitution and put his 'religious' belief on the back burner or wait at least till his tenure is over. He should be punished to the full extent of the law and perhaps even more sternly by virtue of his position. But is this the case? I am not aware. Who will watch the watchers?

I heard of a debacle involving the murder of kids accused of being witches. This reminds me of stake burnings. I never heard of anybody getting punished. I hope such people were brought to book.

These are good examples of the wrong religion does to a people (Nigerian too)
