Guys, Guess what?

The last Arsenal Player to wear the Number 18 jeresey to be worn by Silvestre was Pascal Cygan. smiley grin cheesy

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only (Old) by vicade(m): 10:57am On Aug 21, 2008
Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger said: “We have a strong squad but a young squad and Mikael’s versatility, experience and calibre will provide the extra depth we need to reinforce our challenge for honours this season. His defensive adaptability will serve us well and it’s a big plus that Mikael has top level experience and a great understanding of football in the Premier League.”

Where else can you find a defender who has all of the following

1. Nine years premier league experience with a Top 4 club
2. Can play anywhere acrross the Defence except right back
3. Does not mind warming the bench
4. Actually cost £750,000 acording to all the newspaper reports i have read

This deal was not planned and i think wenger only hijacked him from manchester city who were closing in on him. We have only two players over the age of 30 which are gallas and Almunia. We need a cool head when things go rough and all the reasonable united fans know silvestre is a decent defender who is far better than senderros and cannot be any worse than pascal cygan.

I trust wenger on this one.All those overage ,one year contract policies should be kicked out.

I think wenger will still sign a defensive midfielder(HOPEFULLY) and i think Silvestre is a great signing if for nothing else to give the squad a balance.

"Okereke-Onyiuke, in a telephone conversation with one of our correspondents, however said that the fundraiser was not for Obama.

“At no time did we say we were raising money for Obama. What we are saying is that Obama is for the world and he has been getting support from Europeans, from Arabs and from all over and Nigerians should not be left out,” she had said.

She added that no one was forced to attend the concert, adding that if there is a surplus from the event, at would be used to sensitise voters in the US.

“I want to make it clear that I am a Nigerian and I have the right to do anything I want with my time and money,” she argued.

Where exactly has she broken the law or done wrong? and i think she is a green card holder though i am not 100% sure.

Hannibal:
@ Vicade,

Silvestre earns 80k a week at Man Utd. . . . . .
He has a contract till 2009. . . . . .Arsenal have to buy that out to prise him away(thats 4 million pounds already).
Mikael was bought for 2 years. . . . You can do the math!!!!
Looking at it critically, he cannot cost less than 8 million. cheesy grin
I agree with you sir and that means the over twent media houses quoting £750,000 are wrong and you are right?

Well based on your KKK comments, i cant take you seriously but you might be right though to give you a benefit of a doubt and i think Sir Alex will definitely buy another left back
and what happens to ferguson's statement during the heinze saga,he said he WILL never sell to any rival club, so what happened or is arsenal less of a rival now.I jsut hope our gaffer gets us a good dmf as we need one.inler esp @ least hes jsut 24 and cost within 10 million pounds.i wish i cld be happy but something in me tells me we are done in the transfer market.i pray it aint so though
Amen oooooooooooooooo.

We actually need someone like inler or veloso but the defence was my greatest fear not the midfield.

Imagine all those games we lost and drew due to poor defending and lapse of concentration even when hardworking flamini was playing.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only (Old) by vicade(m): 10:37pm On Aug 20, 2008
I am celebrating because wenger buying silvestre is better than wenger not buying anyone at all. I  STRONGLY agree we need that central midfielder but all through the summer my problem has been with the defence and i said this over and over again if you check my previous posts. Silvestre can cover for all of our starting back four except sagna and when he is fit he is quality(Even Hannibal confirmed this)

Hopefully, we can get Inler or veloso and that will be excellent. But if there is no Inler or Veloso , that will be just okay because Denilson/Diaby/Song will have to upgrade their game. If diaby can stay fit, he is capable of doing the job. i can't say the same for senderros and djorou.

@hannibal

I think his contract was supposed to expire next year so how can he cost 6 Million pounds? All the major newspaper sources quote £750,000. Check it out yourself.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only (Old) by vicade(m): 10:24pm On Aug 20, 2008
Hannibal:
You forgot to add he paid 8 million pounds(according to MUTV) to get Silvestre. wink
He was even given a 2-year-contract. . . . .The same Wenger who never gives more than a year contract for over 30s.
How trustworthy is this Le Prof when it comes to French players.
Is he insane??
Come on Hannibal, the united website said undisclosed fee and over fifteen media sources i have seen quoted £750,000 so how far with this your £8 million figure. Any way, fair play to Sir Alex. it is well appreciated.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only (Old) by vicade(m): 10:18pm On Aug 20, 2008
Hannibal:
Seriously, this is the dumbest transfer i have ever witnessed.
Ferguson needs Silvestre. . . . . .Who would deputise for Evra if he breaks metatarsal??
Mikael Silvestre is better than O'Shea in that position so i think Fergie is playing God with this transfer. . . .

On the other side of the coin. . . . . . Why would Wenger buy Silvestre at 31??
I thunk he champions the "youth policy" shiznit. . . . . Why sell Gilberto, Flamini and many others who clocked 30 and was hocked off?
There's no consistency in Wenger's philosophy. . . . .His solidarity with his kinsmen is disgusting. . .
I am still laughing at you  grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin

At least you are not slamming the quality of silvestre like some naive united fans are.

You see if clichy breaks his leg, we have Armand Traore an Silvestre as cover.
What happens when Evra gets Injured ? I think united have one silva guy who plays left back and John Oshea tongue

WELCOME TO THE FRENCH REVOLUTION PART TWO

All our defenders speak french and Diaby,Nasri,Sagna,Clichy,Gallas and SIlvestre are all french.

I just hope wenger now gets that midfielder he promised and we are good to go, good to go, good to go. cool

I am so so so excited about this signing.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only (Old) by vicade(m): 10:05pm On Aug 20, 2008
Guys on a serious note, with the likes of senderros, djorouh , traore and  probably song in the defence line, silvestre can bring in some experience that we need. I mean, silvestre wont mind playing second fiddle and he has 9 years of premiership experience. If clichy gets injured now, we have two possible options and silvestre can also play in the centre of defence. Come on guys, i think it is a shock signing but we , all of us from debosky to cesc04 have been clamouring for a boost in the defence. I think wenger have finally heeded our plea.

SIlvestre will encourage mre competition and his experience will be useful sooner or later during this long season and he was cheap too.

SO, who is next? yaya Toure cool

By the way, silvestre will wear the Number 18 Jersey

You have a better chance joining KKK than Silvestre moving to the Emirates.
Fergie n Wenger cannot do business. . . . . . .Put a cock in it.

Man Utd is actually Manchester United. . . . . . not MEN UNITED. . .
We aint ass-busters like ARSEnal or ARSEne.
Why do u think Wenger loves signing young kids?? He is a paedo!!

We got silvestre. smiley smiley smiley smiley

I think it is a good signing. I will rather see silvestre as a cover for clichy than traore. His experience will also help the younger players.

Come on wenger, Now give us that midfielder you promised and let us play ball

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only (Old) by vicade(m): 9:16am On Aug 20, 2008
Well, if Silvestre is injury prone, He might as well fit into the squad easily by spending quality time with the likes of Robin Van Persie, Diaby and Rosicky. Silvestre might also be the sixth french national at arsenal.

French Revolution Part 2? undecided
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only (Old) by vicade(m): 8:47am On Aug 20, 2008
common guys, who would you feel more comfortable with on the bench ?

Senderros or SiIlvestre ?
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only (Old) by vicade(m): 7:25am On Aug 20, 2008
Unexpected but worth it. At least a fit silvestre cannot be any worse than senderros and i dont think traore is completely ready to be a left full back in case of any injury to clichy.

If wenger pulls this off then i will be shell shocked and very glad at the same time.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only (Old) by vicade(m): 11:09pm On Aug 19, 2008
There is this article on the sun about silvestre interesting wenger.

http://www.mailonsunday.co.uk/sport/football/article-1047102/Gunners-shock-steal-Uniteds-Silvestre-noses-Sunderland.html

But is silvestre better than senderros and djorouh?  huh

Anyways,Silvestre has played as a centre back for manchester united and can act as cover for kolo toure and william gallas and can also cover for gael clichy. Not a bad signing perhaps? undecided

How can you say Rooney is the key not Ronaldohuh Rooney has never ever ever in his entire career scored 20 league goals for any club.I am an Arsenal fan and i have to say Ronaldo is the best player in the world now. Rooney barely makes the Top 10.

Rooney is a Gra Gra kind of player. Look at the stats and check who is key for united afterall, they say the stats dont lie. tongue

So y'all shut ya respective traps tongue Its only the first game of the season. Not a wonderful start, but its fair.United isn't dead yet grin
United team today was more complete than Arsenal's team considering injuries and Absentees.Eboue in a fabregas role tells the whole story. grin

Pompey is a shitty team but knocked out united in the FA cup last season

whether united is dead or not, we have to wait till after the pompey, liverpool and chelsea matches all away. This is a new season. No time for fooling around, EVERY POINT DROPPED ESPECIALLY AT HOME COULD PROVE COSTLY. tongue

Just gimme TEVEZ and we shall beat Pompey, Liverpool and nick points off Chelsea.
I disagree with you. United without ronaldo is a farce. You remeber ronaldo was suspended beginning of last season when you guys were playing rubbish? what about thee bolton match you lost when Sir alex put ronaldo on the bench? Tevez is good, Ronaldo is Great.

Manchester united have to face portsmouth,Liverpool and chelsea in their next three league games and they are all away matches. Pray,Red Devils to whoever you pray to that ronaldo should be back by then or else.

By the way chelsea was smoking hot and dont mind me i am just teasing. At least manchester united fumbled at the beginning of last season and look at where they ended up.

Nasri and clichy were class/ Adebayor and Eboue were trash. Adebayor needs to improve on his finishing and decision making . Based on todays performace, he was awful.Eboue was just been eboue but since when did he start taking shots? He took over 7 shots and they were all off target.

Clichy and Nasri are the key. I can Imagine Nasri,Rosikcy,Fabregas and a new defensive midfielder. Great. cool

Day 1 and three points in the bag. Job Done.

It was a dreadful game but a great result by all means considering all the midfield players missing.Hopefully,Arsenal has learnt how to win ugly.

Did anybody see the Liverpool game? Terrible. Liverpool were very lucky but the press will spare them as usual and focus on why Arsenal won only two nil.
\i dont know if the press is unaware of all the players that were missing for Arsenal compared to Liverpool. But the press just love to hate Arsenal. Imagine if it was Liverpool that won 2 nil while Arsenal drew, wenger would have been crucified.

Now, can wenger give us our one more experienced midfielder he has been talking about? At least we know Xabi ALonso will likely stay with liverpool because he played today for them and will be cup tied if he comes to arsenal. I hope Miguel Veloso will come to Arsenal.

The injuries may be a blessing in disguise Vicade - it may force AW to buy more players, or cause those 'regulars' to have to fight hard to regain their places when they get fit. This is a huge opportunity for the fit players to make a strong claim for a first team position.

The injuries are worrying, but apart from Diaby, they'll be back in weeks at most.
I hope so because it is as if when one player gets fit, another two players get injured. And don't forget that the world cup qualifiers will soon begin and players also get injured in international duty for example Robin Van Persie. The problem is that even if wenger buys now , when all the players get fit or if they ever get fit there will be too much competition which is what i think lead to lassana diaras exit.

Imagine Eboue Ramsey Denilson and Walcott Midfield based on tomorrows likely line up facing a Deco Lampard Ballack and Essien Midfield. huh

And who knows the kind of injury Rosicky has? At this Rate Rosicky may spend more time on the injury list than Eduardo!!! undecided

Fabregas (hamstring) joins the likes of Kolo Toure (hip), Abou Diaby (thigh), Philippe Senderos (hamstring) and summer signing Samri Nasri (knee/thigh) on the sidelines along with Tomas Rosicky, Birschoff and Eduardo
