@OP, Your story is quite similar to mine.

i actually took half my salary to join an MNC for growth purposes only to get the shocker of my life.
I met harsher Job conditions, longer hours, stress, traffic, rude colleagues, career stagnation and worst of all financial struggle which I never faced at my former work place where I was earning double. Even at my former job I had offers to double the double coming from mid size firms which I rejected despite their pleas. Today, i am filled with regrets everyday I go to work but cant quit because im stuck .

Moral of the story is that the grass is always greener on the other side.
Stay in Abeokuta till the right offer comes. The Lagos job is not the right offer for now.

wow this is shocking. A friend of mine works in a similar position in the company and has spoken to me positively from experience

They have all spoken well, but i never believed in a one man business. What are your growth prospects? If your boss wakes up on the wrong side of the bed can he just fire you? A standard multinational will have structures that don't leave your fate in the whims of one man. 13th month is usually 10% or so of your basic. You also talked about pensions which means your employer is contributing at least 15% of some of your pay for your future use. Finally, your next employer will rate you higher if you are coming from a multinational than if you were coming from an unknown company.

Do not look at the short term, focus on the long term. The multinational won't include trainings in their offer but you will definitely get those. The Abeokuta job appears appealing but if I were to be in your shoes, i will take the multinational. It is easier to get another job in Lagos than it is from ab.

I was in the same dilemma when a telco and a bank offered me jobs. The telco was more one man but paid better. I chose the bank for the singular reason I could move around better with the bank name and experience. Today i am happy I did. The name on my CV still wrought magic. The choice is yours to make, pray and be led by divine direction. I wish you well.
Honestly you have elevated me. Your reasoning is deep and I appreciate it. I may send you a personal message please. Thank you for this. This was the exact same statement a friend of mine made yesterday. Thank you once again

OP, my advice for you is that you stay with your current employer, under him you will learn a lot of skills to apply when you are ready for your own business.

Who knows, you may become managing director in that company when things get better grin

You are very on point like a decimal with your comment. I have my fears of staying with this firm in Abeokuta... Just praying I don't make a mistake eventually

You are a big liar.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There is no job security unless you are employed by Nigerian Government.
You can only be sacked or retired before 35 years due to fraud and new unfriendly Govt.
Moreover, there are no jobs let alone 3 different companies inviting you for interview within 1 week.
Even if you are a specialist.
Oil, Banks, telecom companies, are downsizing and you are talking this... chai!!!
If you don't believe this then I am confident you don't believe in God. No disrespect intended

You should stick with the present job. You are almost a CEO there.....very important to the company. You got good advice from those above. I'll add this.... don't be carried away by the term 'multinational'...their main and only aim is to make and keep increasing profits at all costs. You can be let go at any moment....so don't even be banking on retirement...before you can blink... these companies can shut down and flee with all your retirements and whatever else they promised to keep you loyal and dedicated.

Thank you very much for your candid advise... I pray God leads me to make the right choice

OP, some cogent advise has been given to you above and it will be of best interest you stick to the Abeokuta Job pending when a high paying job comes up in lagos with lot of benefits. Don't make a huge mistake bro. Aside the discouragement in salary which I half of what u are currently (50k) coupled with the juicy benefits as stated in the employment offer, you don't know how secured the job is. Some of these multinationals cannot b trusted hereby downsizing employees anyhow.

Prof Lalasticlala, can this thread grace FP for more advice. Thanks.

A 'multinational' offering to pay 50K as start up in an expensive city like Lagos is probably not worth the stress, but what do I know? Not to talk of how expensive transportation & feeding is now. Perhaps if you state the name of the company, it would help people in giving you better suggestions.

If I were you though, I think I'll stick with the job at Abeokuta, while still searching for better opportunities assiduously. So I'll advise same, for a few reasons:

First, Abeokuta is a cheaper city to live in, compared to Lagos. You can save more living there. Even if things don't end up as auspicious as you'd expected, you could use savings accrued to invest in profitable ventures.

Also, being a precocious company, you stand a better chance to make notable contributions to organisational development—assuming your current employer is reasonable.

The ball is in your court anyway. Regardless your final resolve, I wish you all the best in your future endeavours!

Thank you very much. You have been very helpful

Abeokuta is better.......!13th month and all that summed together is not up to what u earn now,, come to think of it, accommodation in Lagos, stress and all that...remember that the pension contribution is 9+9 =18 employer half and u pay the remaining half.....The current place u work now is it related to geology? if yes then stay....Lagos is good but if the offer is 150-200,i will tell u to take it...but 50 is just not it

I am a graduate of Geology though but the current place is not really related to Geology per se. It's a field I also love

Hello everyone, My name is Victory and I don't know how to tell you this or what format to follow

On 31st May this year, a day after my birthday, I resigned from a mining company where I was working in Jos because working terms and conditions no longer gave me what I wanted in a job coupled with the fact that I was fed up with ONE MAN BUSINESS and promised myself not to work with any again.

Immediately I got home that day, I was excited to receive a mail inviting me for an interview with a multinational organization. To cut the long story short, I ended up doing interviews with three different companies within two weeks in Lagos and I resumed with one of them just last week.
Where I am now the pay is 100k per month for my position, accommodation, staff bus to and fro work daily with no other benefits for now, it is a one man business that is just starting up in Abeokuta and I am enjoying working with the company though the job is tasking and demanding but I am learning daily...

Just yesterday, one of the three companies called for me to resume this Friday in Lagos...Please find some benefits that come with the position below as I was told during the interview and from a source within the firm. Though the start up pay is half what I am getting in Abeokuta;
1. PENSION
2. INSURANCE
3. 13TH MONTH
4. TRAINING AND RETRAINING
5. CAREER GROWTH
6. JOB SECURITY
7. EXPOSURE
ABOVE ALL, IT IS A MULTINATIONAL ORGANIZATION

Now I have between now and tomorrow Thursday to either resign in Abeokuta or reject the offer in Lagos
Please I would like for moderators to help move this post to where it can be seen quickly for advise, thank you

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Posting Of CV Througn Mobile Phone.. by victree007(m): 8:25am On Apr 27, 2016
Please bear in mind that while it is very possible to send CV via your phone, never make the mistake of editing your CV with your phone else it may change the formatting and other arrangements you've made and the bad part is you may not even notice it until you view same on a computer. So always edit your CV with a computer then you can transfer to your phone for sending.

Also, as regards not seeing other folders like sent items, spam and the rest, click on the icon just above the inbox and they will appear.
Lastly, if you have to forward a CV to a totally different employer, always remember to remove the ''FW" on the subject line. I hope this helps

Religion / Re: What Is Your Take On Couples Who Attend Different Churches? by victree007(m): 7:23pm On Jan 24, 2016
Well OP have said it all. This issue has been on my mind for some time now because the lady I intend getting married to attends a different church from the one I attend even though they are both pentecostal but there's no way I'll go into marriage with her without first agreeing on attending the same church. Isn't it biblical for couples to attend the same church in marriage? Attending different churches by couples can lead to the husband having a lesser control over the family, the children may not be properly brought up and it could ultimately make the marriage disintegrate.
I think couples must before marriage discuss a number of issues including this one. If you can agree on attending the same church when married I don't think it will be a problem when eventually married.

dupsil:
Ohk guys, i would try to make this short and simple. Forgive any grammatical blunder i might make though. thanks
So this is my story, am studying a 5yrs course in the Uni and am in my finals, throughout the previous years i wasnt in a relationship, i was so engrossed with school works so i could graduate with with a good G.P, I pratically didnt have time for myself. it got to a stage that my friends started pressuring me to get a boyfriend, not like i didnt have people who wanted to date me, i just wasnt ready nor interested.
After 400l, during the session break, i was on IT and met this guy where i was working,he was working at the company too as a permanent staff though. he was so nice to me and made me feel special and loved, we saw virtually every day, sometimes after work he would drop me at home and even became friends with my siblings. he asked me out and i agreed to date him, things was going smoothly bt then i had to go back to school.
After about a week in school, his attitude changed, he stopped calling, messaging or even chatting me up, i was the one calling, messaging and chatting him up, anytime i complain about his change of attitude he would say he was just busy with work and apologise bt didnt change. when i saw that he didnt change, i decided not to call him, chat him or even message and see how long it was going to last. for a whole week he didnt call and i had to call him wen i cud no longer take it. he wasnt even remorseful, just said he's bin busy and am wondering how could you be so busy and nt check on someone u claim you really care about, i asked him if he wanted a breakup bt he said no dat he cared abt me and wud change but he still hasnt. am going through so much emotional stress and i dont no what else to do. have never asked for money from him and he's never given me anytin so i kip wondering wat i did wrong, we never had sex too. please i need romancelanders help on this issue, should i just go ahead and break up with him? am in love with him and the thoughts of breaking up hurts badly. To think that my first relationship after so long didnt even last 4month
Stick to ur original plan. Stay away from a relationship and all the pain it brings and focus on graduating with a good grade. Hard work has got u where u r right now so don't ruin it now dat u r in ur finals. Relationship is not for everyone in school. This was d same decision I made some years ago in school and it worked perfectly for me. I hope u listen to good counsel eventually.

Hello everyone,

I went for an interview last week. The interviewer enquired about how much I was looking to earn. I said since it was entry level position, I believe there is a salary range and an amount fair to me is alright.

Did I make any mistake? I noticed the lady wanted me to be specific. I didn't want to look greedy.

It is a local exploration and production company.

Your opinions please?

U nailed it bro... If she wanted u to be specific she would have pressed u for it. Ur response is better than giving a figure because if u did u would be feeling way uneasy than this by now. wish u Godspeed though.

These so called nurses must be very jobless and uneducated for not being able to read a practicable meaning to the expression of the senator. I'll advice them to get themselves a copy of any book on idiomatic expressions. I won't be surprised if their stand has been politically motivated. Nigeria is having a hard time educating the uneducated and the educated ones need to be re-educated
