who will write the regulations when no one cares about doing the right thing. You will want to blame the engineers but how about the client willing to kill people just to save money. Recently a nairalander called me and inquired about the cost of a 7unit 2bedrooms and to my surprise this man isn’t will to do any architectural or structural drawing, he drafted a nonsense infeasible plan from his bedroom and he is hoping to look for a local bricklayer that they can go to site and build the death trap and then you wonder why buildings are collapsing.
My suggestion to mitigate these building failure is to make a law that a landlord whose building collapse should be charged with murder not even manslaughter and that law sho be taken seriously but then this is nigeria where even the president stole the mandate.
