This is not a new phenomena, I've seen it in the US. A minister is gay? No biggie, he is still influential and reaching to millions. He impregnates several women? But he is mighty in scriptures! He has repeatedly physically assaulted his wife? He is a 'presidential advisor' to President Obama.

And long before US, Jews had this similar notion that eternity belonged to those whose good deeds exceeded their bad deeds. Judgement was a matter of balancing. If good was weightier than bad, you win, else you lose

I was disappointed by the way the book started in the prologue. A child becomes an atheist and so his family begins to fall apart, and his pious christian mother commits suicide. How absurd. The pious mother is so distressed by something as trivial as her son losing his faith (granted it isn't trivial to her), that she ends up violating the tenets of the faith herself as a solution. And the fault isn't the parents' who weren't mature enough to handle the situation as adults but allowed their family fall apart because of a single black sheep. No, the fault is the atheist's. Then he goes on to tell us this story is fiction. Here, Ravi betrays his true feelings. He would definitely love it if this macabre fictional story of his played out in every home where someone became an atheist. For that would at once prove his point that atheism is detrimental. But thankfully, this isn't the case.

He then accuses Harris of appealing to emotions. Tell me, if the fictional tale in his prologue isn't an appeal to emotions, then what is it? In fact, he ends the book with another appeal to emotions.

His arguments are the same generic apologetic ones atheists are familiar with. How morality is the exclusive preserve of the Judeo-Christian god. How man is incapable of building a moral framework because man is totally depraved. He then cites examples to show man is inherently evil. He ignores cases that appear to prove otherwise. He keeps rehashing bromides and tries to convince his reader that Harris is such a terrible person.

I stopped expecting anything serious from this book after reading that prologue. I've read better christian apologetics than this. C.S Lewis comes to mind.

BTW, I thought this book was a response to "The End of Faith", judging by the title.

This is an incredibly ridiculous excuse for shunning Ravi.
He s quite clear that is hypothetical on the prologue. Then am pleasantly surprised that you know the contents of his book enough to critique it yet you never went beyond the prologue....

But why do I begin to address a work as serious- minded as that of Harris with an imaginary scene like the one above? Because realities that are far from imaginary are enveloped in this story, and I wonder what Harris would say to those possibilities.

He may argue that the grief his book may cause families such as this one is justified and even nec- essary sometimes if the young student in the story and others like him are going to stop believing and living a lie. Does this sound familiar? He may well justify any amount of grief to any number of people because of an insistence that the value of his “truth” is greater than the destruction of a family. But to do so raises a huge question, doesn’t it? If in the microcosm of this one little episode Harris were to justify the devastation he has caused for the sake of what he sees as the truth, why does he deny God the same justification for allowing suffering in all of the intricacies and possibilities of a lifetime?

When you read 'Moses suffered', 'Moses commanded', 'Moses said','Moses is read' in NT, it does not mean Moses the man gave instructions, that is an idiom; Moses is an idiom for the Laws God gave to Israel through him. These are called Law of Moses or Law of God

In the subject verse, do you think it is logical for Moses to invent his own rules on divorce overruling God?
What Jesus is saying is He created marriage institution ORIGINALLY without room for breaking it,but He LATER,THROUGH MOSES, gave concessions because of man's sin.

Of all the silliest arguments I've heard this tickles me endlessly;
'Anita filed for divorce, therefore Anita is to blame for divorce'

She was PUSHED to that option by Oyaks. She cites infidelity in court. Gombs denies this and hopes to sell us his version, which should not be questioned. Why should we believe your crap which is more ludicrous? Anita was totally ignorant of the fact that Oyaks owned zilch while you a distant sheeple knew this all along?

The funniest bit is that the most Anita's most rabid and voracious attackers actively denied the divorce proceedings.. They clung on to hope that it would stop. They appealed to Oyaks ring finger as proof that the marriage was still on. All this while, Anita was a woman of God. Now that the divorce is as public as you can get, she is suddenly an irrational myopic and misguided self-centered prick.

Now it's irreplaceable, and can be short at times (there's the word again). At such periods, when time is short another fancy word comes into play. The second word is priority. We tend to do the things ranked highest TO US on our priority list. It may be a better use of my time to count my teeth with my tongue than to say, read a free "mere" 145 page book. It's MY TIME!

I was interested in the book but had to make sure I wouldn't waste MY TIME, so I invested a little time in looking up reviews and in doing so, I saved myself the anguish and I posted here to help others save their time too.

You have wasted far more time avoiding it by chewing through reviews that are several times longer and confused as the book. Obviously you have little time for Ravi because he scares you. If he scared me, I'd not even furiously google the reviews , I'd be too busy with other stuff

And you speak about Pastor Yemisi's achievement as though it is a common feat. For your information, Rhapsody of Realities is the most translated book in the world (after the bible). Read in every nation and territory of the world in 672 languages (and still counting). An intelligent, annointed, seasonsed minister of God who has given all for the gospel is the one you deem fit to bring into this discussion? And you think the Lord Jesus and the angels that work with her will be smiling and congratulating you?

There are others like her whom Dr. Chris has raised and they are taking nations for Jesus. There is Pastor Deola Philips, a trained medical doctor who gave up her medical profession to serve the Lord in the ministry. She is the director of the world renowned healing school. There is none like it anywhere in the world. Ministers from almost every nation on earth visit and recieve impartation and fire for their ministries. She is also the director of the International School of ministry and the pastor of Lagos Zone5 one of the best performing zones in the ministry. This very annointed woman recently organized a crusade at the TBS that witnessed a very huge crowd and divers miracles in the open for all to see. There are several other giants of faith that the Man of God has raised. I just took time to mention a few of those who have been with him from the early days because someone may read your posts and begin to imagine one church down the road. No we are talking about a global movement. These are the people you want to go against? And you think the Lord will stand by and watch you?

And it doesnt matter whether you claim to be a member of the church, you are treading on dangerous path. I also hope you too have packed your bags and moved on from the church?

People love lies and would always prefer it to the truth. When a Pastor in CE is transferred, depending on the capacity (I.e) zonal, group, local etc. the wife is automatically transferred with him. That Pst Anita had to manage r international churches didn't separate them, Several other Pastors and their wives pastors different zones/groups. And they all submit to their respective heads.
Well, I'm really not aware of PST Anita was ever 'second in command', I knew she had senior Pastors to her in the ministry e.g Rev Tom
