Angel,

Then the authorities in Ethiopia were most understanding to you.
Perhaps you are really one hot babe. wink

In most jurisdictions that would not happen especially if
there is the option for you to obtain a transit visa prior
to travel.
TravelRe: Application For Uk Student Visa. by VOR(m): 12:16pm On Jul 25, 2007
Swifty,

You can travel prior to the commencement of your course
but not prior to the commencementof the start date of your
EC. If you look at the EC closely there are two dates on it.
One is the commencement date and the other is the expiry date.
It is normally at the top of the EC around the right hand side.

Swiftycool,

All the best, which part of Scotland will you be studying?
One piece of advice I will give you is not to travel to the UK
PRIOR TO THE VALIDITY DATE OF YOUR VISA.

house, i forgot to mention that what they did was to call all nigerians together and asked us to bring our passports and connnecting tickets. we were all hopeful that ,ok we will get a transit V. next thing, on the tickets were written not allowed into Qatar by immigration. next thing, people started screaming and cursing amd saying all sorts like i will slap u, etc. when they were even trying to give the passports back in the whole chaos, the nna's were like the Qatari babe should pronounce d names written on the passport. How nowhuh? I volunteered to help because they had already started getting violent.
Well this would appear to confirm what I was saying. No visa, no entry.
Qatar airways can't be blamed for that as they are not responsible for the
immigration policy of Qatar.

I disagree with most posts here. Were are treated shabily abroad because we allow it. Deamnd your just rights and u will be treated differently.

@poster
u should have demanded to be treated properly. Like u said they were just trying to save money and as such would not offer what ought to be standard.
You missed the connecting flight for no fault of yours. It was their fault and theyought to take responsibility. It doesnt matter what airline it was. My sister got a less than satisfactory treatment from virgin Nigeria and she complained. She was offered an upgrade for her next flight.
I have missed a connecting flight on Ethiopian to Dubai and i was put in a hotel and properly catered for but some people on the same flight spent the night in the airport!
Angel,

What you appear to forget is that if you miss your connecting flight,
regardless of who is to blame, and you don't have a visa for the transit
country where one is required. You ain't coming out of the airport and
that has nothing to do with the airline but everything to do with the
immigration authorities of the country through which you are passing.

Hi all, any Man Utd fans actually based in Manchester?

I'm travelling up from London for the Inter-Milan
game on 1/8/07 and need recommendation for a
good but cheap and cheerful b&b for one night preferably
within good travel distance of Old Trafford.I'm looking at a
double room(£40-50).

Alternatively, I don't mind crashing on a fellow reds sofa for
the night.(FOC) grin grin grin

Folanusi,

If I were you I would write to BA customer services and complain.
Don't let them get away with it. You will be surprised with the compensation
they will offer you.

On a BA flight from Tampa-London we were delayed on board the airplane at Tampa airport for
three hours due to a faulty on board computer. I wrote and complained and they offered 50%
reduction on any BA flight for 12 months.

P.S @VOR

How far with help on reapplication. I posted some things i intend to take add with this fresh one, tats has commented how about you.
I did comment on your re-application. See my post number #646.
In addition to that it would probably be a good idea to enclose a
covering letter as you have suggested to address their doubts
about the stamps and any other issues they may have raised
in your previous refusal and which you think can't be addressed
in the application form.

I don't wish to impugn your integrity in any way, but are you
being totally honest. By this I mean have you done anything like arranging
backdated stamps with Nigerian immigration which gives the ECO cause
to doubt the validity of such stamps?

Also you do know it is illegal to work in the UK on a visit visa don't you? wink

thanks a lot for the timely advice i was about to book a flight with them to the uk i think i willl have to think twice . i must confess i was attracted by their low rate . well i think not all that glitters is gold anyway .
@Onatsi

I don't think you should shelve your plans to fly Qatar Airways
because of deezle's experience. The problem arose only because
he missed his connecting flight. Chances are that is a rare occurence.

And for peace of mind why not look into getting a Qatar transit(not airside) visa
so if it does happen you will be able to leave the airport?

I also believe it will be too late to appeal especially after such a long time. Re-applying will be best.

With regards to the issues with the entry stamps, I suggest she puts in supporting documents such as airline ticket/boarding passes if she still has them or get the airline(s) to give her a letter confirming that she flew with them on the said dates into Nigeria. May be a tough one if it has been a long time, but that is an option.
@Tats

Well said, this may be a way out.

But remember in the refusal notice the ECO only referred to anomalies
and inconsistencies without specifying what they were.
So providing airline tickets or stubs may not be enough.
She needs to know what the anomalies were and then
address them specifically.

mrpataki:
@ Salsera,
Also i suggest you appeal against the decision of the ECO too.
@Mr Pataki

With all due deference and respect to all the enlightening contributions you have made to this and other threads
I don't see how she can successfully appeal now. If I am not wrong she was turned down for the visa late last year.
She would have had 28 days from then to appeal. The deadline has long since passed. So unless she has very strong
grounds to lodge a late appeal any such appeal will be opposed by the Presenting Officers Unit and in all likelihood
the objection will be upheld by the judge.

Her best bet really is to apply again and try to ensure all bases are covered in accordance with the rules.
i.e a good sponsor in the uk, every reason to return to Nigeria e.g a solid job, strong finances, letter from employer. etc.
I am unsure why the ECO took issue with her Nigerian entry stamps and if she is refused again for this reason it is something which may only be given consideration at appeal.
TravelRe: My Trip To London With Qatar Airlines by VOR(m): 12:13pm On Jul 17, 2007
Entry into Qatar may have nothing to do with the airline,
the question is do Nigerians require visas to enter Qatar?
If they do and you and the other Nigerians didn't have them
then the Qatar immigration authorities are within their rights
to refuse you entry.

Although having said that you may have qualified for
a twenty four hour transit visa, but in most cases the grant of such
a visa is discretionary.

@VOR

I called AIT they said they do not have any record of having recieved my forms undecided
Sorry to hear that Salsera.

I did kind of suspect this might be the case and that is why in my previous
post I said: "if there is a valid appeal pending" Six months even by AIT standards
is a long time without even an acknowledgement of receipt.

I think you need to question your UK sponsors. When and how did they
send the appeal? Meaning was it by registered post and have they kept
the receipt of postage?

If not then I am afraid it is now too late to appeal. You will then have to
apply afresh and hope that this time you have a lot more luck.
Let me know how you wish to proceed and I will try and assist with the application.

Akolawole:
@VOR

She can always apply for visa at any time even if she has a pending appeal but may be asked to withdraw the appeal when the ECO intend to grant the visa.
Ako

Yes, nothing stops anyone applying for a UK visa at anytime.
However, one would be throwing away good money if you applied
knowing that your chances of getting it are next to zilch.

Salsera has not had much luck so far, so if she applied now, especially
in light of the pending appeal, why would the outcome be any different?
Especially if her personal circumstances have not changed radically for the better
since the last application.

I would bet my bottom dollar that if there is a valid appeal pending she
would be told to await the outcome of the appeal first.
TravelRe: Uk Visa - Visa Appeal Process by VOR(m): 10:11pm On Jul 15, 2007

@VOR

wow, so its advisable to find out the status of the appeal first

Okay

I'll just call the number in the AIT appeal form guide

I actually filed the form through a relative who is to represent me at the hearing but i'm surprised that i nor him have heard anything till date.

But i heard that there is a backlog of appeals now do u think that's why its taking this long
That is quite possibly the reason, but rather than sit and speculate there is no harm
in giving them a ring and letting them tell you that is the reason for the delay.
I would also ask them at the same time whether they can give you an indication as to when
it will be heard.
TravelRe: Uk Visa - Visa Appeal Process by VOR(m): 7:20pm On Jul 15, 2007
Salsera,

What efforts have you made to obtain feedback regarding
your appeal from the AIT?

In my opinion it is highly unlikely you will be granted a visit visa
whilst there is a pending appeal against the refusal of such a visa.
You really need to resolve the status of your appeal first.

As I am no longer a student I am not sure what entails
with regards to fees etc. I'm sure if you use one of the
search engines freely available you will be able to get an
answer to your question.

Alternatively why not pose the question on the nairaland

Good luck.

@VOR

i think you've kind of misinterpreted lilian's question or maybe i am the one that has gotten things mixed up.

From her posts, i guess she is a british citizen that has just recently applied for her british passport(she is still yet to collect it from the home office). she intends studying for her masters next year. from the little i know, you can't just carry your ' british pali' direct from naija and then claim you want to study for masters and still pay the UK citizens' fee without having stayed in the UK for at least 3years. Am i right or wrong?
Funky

You may well be right.

But I have not offered an opinion on this aspect
of her question because it is not really immigration
related and I don't know the answer.
TravelRe: Uk Visa - Visa Appeal Process by VOR(m): 12:11am On Jul 08, 2007
Liliana,

I was just joking with you.

But on a serious note there are a lot of
degree holders in the UK and a lot of them
work in jobs which they may consider not to
be commensurate with their educational attainment.
That is the way of the labour market.

Do not expect to walk into a job on the basis that you
have a first or even second degree. In general It doesn't
work like that here. Employers are more interested in what
you can do and what life skills and work experience you have
rather than how many paper qualifications you possess.

My son is fine thank you. Have you met him? Or how do you know
of him?

Anyway good luck. Let me know when you are travelling so I can
arrange a reception committee befitting your status. wink grin
TravelRe: Le Méridien Ibom Hotel & Golf Resort Uyo, Akwa Ibom by VOR(m): 12:04pm On Jul 07, 2007
No problem with that but let the private sector pay for it.
Govt. other then creating a conducive atmosphere for such
projects shouldn't get involved.

It should concentrate on providing basic facilities like schools,
health care, roads and infrastructure for all citizens. Not just
an elite few.

Good to see our govts have their priorities in order.
First a glorified shopping centre, then a holiday resort
and now a golf course.

For whose benefit are all these govt projects?

Please does this mean that i would pay the fees for international students or will i pay the fees for citizens but in full?
I am kind of confused here.

Thanks for the advice though i am yet to collect the passport.I would do that next week.I am currently doing my NYSC so i hope to travel by Feb 2008.Just need to get the facts into my head so that i can plan ahead.
How possible is it for me to get a job that befits my status? Is there any thing i need to do?Do i have automatic resident and work permits? If yes, please what are the benefits?
I intend to apply for my Masters now against february next year(even though i do not have the funds now and may not resume till september next year). Is it a wise idea or do i wait till i get there?
When deferring admissions are u charged for it?
