Amnesty for illegal immigration is still many light years away.
You'd be very surprised to know that over the years there have been several limited amnesty schemes.
e.g overstayers regularisation scheme and the Family ILR scheme. Thousands upon thousands of once
illegal immigrants have benefited and I can definitely see some sort of amnesty being introduced at some
point.

You're both right and wrong at the same time
We, the Flemish, share a language with the Dutch. Standard codified Dutch is based on a Bible translation (de Statenbijbel) that was written by Marnix Van Sint-Aldegonde, someone that fled Antwerp during the religious wars in the low countries for Holland.

Flemish (Dutch spoken by the Flemish) differs less from Dutch spoken in Holland than American English differs from British English, so it would be crazy to call them different languages. What is different though is the pronunciation, some grammatical constructs and choice of words.
thx
Thanx for clearing that up.

Btw, where did you learn English?
You write it better than a lot of native
English speakers I know.

Nferyn,

I thought the two major languages in Belgium were French and Flemish.
Is Flemish the same as Dutch or a completely separate language?

Your kidz are lovely btw.
TravelRe: Pictures of Lagos Skyline (City-Scape) by VOR(m): 10:58am On Jun 01, 2007
Nice pics DBLOCK.

I would however like to make a couple of observations, both positive and negative.
On the positive note, and I have mentioned this before, It is good to see that the roofing
materials used in Nigeria generally no longer are corrugated iron. If you had taken these pictures
about 20 years ago or so you would have seen this mass of rusted brown roofs which
made the city so decrepit looking.

And here is the negative. These pics though nice looking at first glance do not tell the whole story.
e.g  a nice aerial shot of the National Stadium at S/Lere you might think. But on the ground we all
know the stadium has been abandoned and is now a shadow of its former self.
The building next to Union Bank looks like it could do with some serious renovation. Notice how
despite the airconditioning units all the windows are open. Looks like PHCN have struck. You will
also notice a symbol of a lot that is wrong with Nigeria; the ubiquitos generators.

All the same DBLOCK though I have often disagreed with you as to whether the presence of
nice high rises is indicative of real progress I still always check out this thread, so keep them coming.
TravelRe: Experience With Immigration When Traveling With Our Nigeria Passport by VOR(m): 10:39am On Jun 01, 2007
I take your point, the airport security authorities at that airport
were probably not following procedures properly. I fly a lot in the UK
and I know that the checks here are 100% on everybody, all
travellers.

Afterall the Oklahoma bomber was not black, Arab or Asian.

In some Airport in America, I was asked to take my shoes and socks off, while other passengers walked by. I shold have sued them, but nahhh
In most airports in the US and UK it is standard procedure to take your shoes
and socks off and undergo a security search whilst passing through security.
though not immigration. It has absolutely nothing to do with your passport
or the colour of your skin. It is all a sign of the dangerous times we live in.

Even members of staff at the airports are subject to limited security searches.
TravelRe: Uk Visa Application (advice Needed) by VOR(m): 8:06pm On May 28, 2007
@ Sasuyi

I am speaking as a former UK home office employee so I think
it would be fair to say I have a reasonable idea about the way
things work. I can tell you that your chances of getting any kind
of visa are next to zilch.

What you did is first of all a criminal offence, it shoots your credibility
to pieces. And remember the admitted fraud was committed just 2 years ago
not twenty.

My advice? Save your money. If you are really determined to study outside
Nigeria then I suggest you try another country. It might also be an idea if
you wish to go down this line to obtain a new passport because I'm sure
your current passport would have been endorsed which might lead to questions.
Different countries don't routinely share visa refusal advice with each other
because of legal implications.

LC,

Thanks for your insightful contribution, I think however
that if Shobabay rebuts all the grounds given for refusal
she stands a good chance of having the decision reversed
even before appeal.

And if it goes to appeal I am 95-99% sure she will win.

Shobaby,

How far with your letter?
Make sure you file your appeal before the deadline.

Good-luck.

@ VOR
thanks for replying i was actually. i'll do d letter tomorrow and take it to them. i just received a scanned copy of a letter written by my husband's landlord stating that the accomodation is occupied by him alone and it is a 2 bedroom aprtmnt. do i attach this letter to what i'm writing to BHC?
Shobaby,

No harm in attaching this letter, but your husband's tenancy agreement would
probably carry more weight. When is the deadline for your appeal to be filed.?
TravelRe: Uk Visa - Visa Appeal Process by VOR(m): 10:49pm On May 24, 2007
Shobaby ,

Sorry about the refusal, from the information you have provided it would appear that
it is a very weak refusal and one which you would almost certainly win on appeal.
However, as you no doubt know appeals are not the quickest way to resolve matters
and in your case separating you and your child is particularly unjust.

I personally would advise you at this stage to appeal and at the same time send a covering letter in which
you ask them to reconsider their original decision, they do have the power to do this.
Most importantly address all the points they raised in their refusal letter, obtain another
letter from the bank confirming you are a bona fide customer, also the High Commission
does not normally check the suitability of UK accommodation, the onus is on you to satisfy
them that suitable accommodation is available to you, so you will need to do this.

When you write the letter be calm and measured in your tone. Do not be rude just state
the facts and why you think the decision is wrong. Hopefully this should bring a positive response.
One other thing, there is no visa quota as claimed by Bigboy lary.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

London Cool

I know you have inside knowledge on procedures etc. Is there anything you can add
or amend to the advice I have given?

Uk immigration have every right to refuse entry if you don't meet the visa requirements.
Regardless of whether you are a national of a commonwealth country. It has
always been the case.

I drove to England for the first time and without visa, I was delayed for almost 4 hrs, I was pissed, we talked, and talked, and yelled at each other, I told him I was from a commonwealth member nation and he had no right to refuse me entry, until after a very long time of talking, arguing and yelling, at a point I told him to give my pali back to me I wasn't going to go to their country again, I asked what's so special about them? he later stamped my pali to enter for 6 months. That was a long time ago, don't try it now.
Did this happen before or after the visa requirement for Nigerians was introduced?

I'm sure the poster uses nothing other than moisturiser.
There is nothing wrong with that Slimnike. I have always
used a little astral cream to keep my weaponry well honed,
supple and good looking.

Just don't allow things to get out of hand grin(no pun intended)

The answer to this thread might not be unconnected with sayings such as: every beginning must have an end; what goes up must come down, no condition is permanent etc, etc. But remember that, the essence of religion is to seek solace when one begins to experience some of these odd-times. Run to God for help via prayers. You must definitely be heard and answered.
Why does everything with us Nigerians have to be about prayers, god and spirituallity?
If it was so simple we'd have the greatest country in the world. Especially taking into
account the number of churches and therefore prayers that must be said in them.

Sorry I know I have gone off topic somewhat. embarassed embarassed

Try not to settle into routines, that becomes a habit and thus become hard to break.

mrpataki:
OK @ VOR & Omojeje,
Internal consideration is something that is not regularly included in the books. It comes as having an intermediary who takes up your case with the ECO or better still the ECM for a reconsideration. It is faster than the appeal, but most people do not know about it.

Just incase you have supplement documents you do want to include in your application after the refusal, you can include it. Dont have too much knowledge on it, but it has worked perfectly for some though.

Even though there are times, it could be outrightly refused, you can then go on with the appeal.

Basically it is faster than the appeal, and it is only peeps who have a relationship with the ECOs or ECM that can handle it with them effectively.

To your case, I think you could go on with the appeal. But I must say the AIT have loads and loads of student refusal cases at the moment that it is rather slow handling student visa refusals at the moment.

Awaiting further questions.
Thank You.
Mr Pataki,

What you have described is nothing more than making further representations.
Anyone can do this it doesn't have to be an intermidiary.
Jeje him/herself can even do it. All he/she has to be mindful of is that
the ECOs original reason for refusing the visa is rebutted and then asking that the
case be reconsidered.
As you said even if this approach is unsuccessful the appeal can still go forward.
In fact there is nothing to stop an applicant asking for a reconsideration and filing
the appeal at the same time.

TravelRe: Uk Visa - Visa Appeal Process by VOR(m): 11:29pm On May 01, 2007
Jeje

Basically you have to rebut the claim of the ECO.

As I said the refusal appears to be based on two grounds.
The fact that your sponsor hasn't shown he has the means
to sponsor your education and that the money in the business
account can be used for your education.
