All of una eulogising the dump that is Ibadan have you not seen the thread on this board showing pictures of Nairobi? Or the pics of other African cities like Durban, Abidjan, Abuja even Lagos, Cape Town etc? You all really need to stop wallowing in your ignorance and mediocrity and realise what a dump the place is. |

Hero: Wow, this is a damn shame. While other major cities like Lagos, Port Harcourt, Enugu, Abuja, Calabar and even smaller ones like Katsina, Uyo, and Umuahia have seen good improvement over the past 10 years since I've last visited Nigeria it looks as if Ibadan is still the same ol dump it was way back then. It's a shame that the nations second and third largest cities (Ibadan & Kano) are 2 of the most crappiest looking and seemingly slowest developing in the nation. Thank you Hero, so glad to know I am not the only one who thinks Ibadan looks like one big cesspit. To tell the truth if I was from Ibadan I would keep it quiet, or at least not brag about it. |

I'm going to set the proverbial cat amongst the pigeons here. Ibadan looks to me like one huge corrugated dump of a sh**t hole. Even the "modern" buildings look like they are straight out of the fifties or sixties. 1950/60s that is, but I could understand if some people thought I meant 1850/60s. Are there no new buildings in this sorry excuse for a city? I have my tin hat and shield for the abuse I know is coming my way. |

mrpataki: There is nothing stopping you from applying for another class of Visa even when you have an appeal going on in respect of a visa you had applied for earlier.
@ Akolawole, VOR, LC, et al, Will also be doing an on and off situation here on Nairaland. Lets keep the good work going though. True, there is nothing to stop you applying but you can be 99% sure your application wil be refused or at best you will be "advised" to withdraw the application pending the resolution of your outstanding appeal. |

VOR i can see why you are mad at me for one i didn't say i took epic pictures or something sooo cool all i said was that i took a trip and i wanted to show some pictures of course i didn't want to show pictures that might violate the rules of this site but you got mad and by the way i took a look at the picture on your profile. That is the actual waste of bandwidth you should take that down no body wears their pants above their navels anymore also wearing a khaki green long sleeve shirt in the heat of Nigeria is not a good look. You can always take someone to a big city but the villager in them can not be removed. what a jack off in a kleenex.
I wasn't mad at you. I was just pointing out a fact ( a little too sarcastically perhaps, apologies for that) But I do note that you have taken on board what I said by getting rid of some of the pics. As for my pic well I haven't had any complaints before about its size or nature. In fact I would go so far as to say all the ladies on nairaland love it. Many of them have described me as looking a bit like a sex god. If you know how many e-mails I have got from many female admirers here wanting a date with me you go weak. Btw the pic was not taken in Lagos, Nigeria but Lagos, Portugal look at the map closely. Anyway, I do hope to see more "interesting" pics of your time in Costa Rica. |

I'm highly impressed by your posts here. I doff my hat 4 You.
@ Akowale and mrpataki and VOR
You guys re just good 2 go. Highly motivated and wonderful consultants! Thanks all 4 keeping the thread alive.
I applied 4 a study visa last yr but was refused on grounds of my ability to follow the proposed course, and the ability to fund my stay, then forgery of my BSc degree award certificate. In fact, the said certificate was withheld by the ECO. After my receipt of the refusal form, I wrote them expressing my feelings about the withheld original document, and in the letter, I stressed that as an employee of one of the biggest financial institutions in the country, the documents I presented to them has been verified by my employers before they offered the job 2 me. And that I considered their judgement a serious slight on my integrity.
To my utmost suprise, I got a call from the ECO apologising 4 withholding the said document and explaining the grounds of the refusal, and requesting that I pick it up immediately from their office in VI. So I did just that.
This time around, I intended reapplying again 4 study visa, but later resolved 2 visit the schools I have in mind first, then apply for a study visa next yr. I wish to state in my application that I intend to visit some schools in UK (which I mentioned) so as to compare their available postgraduate courses with my intended course of study, and that I also intend to attend a University's open day.
What do You guys think? Shld I still tackle the other reasons for the last refusal? How do I link this application to the former one I made?
Thanks for your contributions !!!!!! @Presjany I don't think there is anything you can do now about the previous refusal. The time for you to appeal has almost certainly expired and though in theory you can request for an extension of time within which to file the appeal you must have very good reasons for not filing it on time in the first place. Turning to your proposed visit. There is nothing to stop you applying to visit for the reason you stated. Contrary to what Funky said the immigration rules do not outlaw visits for this purpose. The obstacle you will face is satisfying the ECO that you are a genuine visitor. This would depend to a large degree on your personal circumstances and whether or not you meet the criteria as a visitor eg adequate accommodation and funds and possibly a sponsor etc. Bear in mind also that although each application for a visa is decided on its merits, the fact that you were refused previously will certainly have a bearing on the current application. Personally my advice would be to conduct your research about the school you wish to attend in the UK from Nigeria. In this day and age of the internet it is not so important to attend open days etc. A lot of the info is on line. By doing it this way you can then channel all your energy and resources into submitting a solid student visa application. I mean the money you spend on fares to visit would be better utilised as a deposit to a university. Good luck anyway. |

Funky I think Londoncool was just talking generally about UK immigration procedures and wasn't specifically applying them to your sister in this instance. Pretty much all he said is true. Just understand UK immigration can't be expected to catch every one trying to subvert the immigration rules, definitely some people will get away with things. What I do know however is that sometimes a person can be getting away with illegality for many years and think they have cheated the system but one dayy is all it takes for them to be caught. I hope you know that the fact your child is born in the UK or Ireland and many other countries in Europe does not automatically confer nationality on that child? It still does in the USA so perhaps that is your best bet. Finally it is NOT against the rules to come to the UK on a visit and look for a school. It would however be against the rules to enrol and attend classes on a visit visa. Although having said that there is a grey area where your course is a short term course that is less than six months. For instance you might come as a visitor and wish to attend a language school for a couple of weeks. Strictly speaking that is not against the immigration rules and an Immigration Officer could in those circumstances excercise his discretion in your favour. But like I said it is not clear cut so don't try it. |

Travel › Re: Dutch Police Raid West African Migrants' Club by VOR(m): 10:29pm On Jun 23, 2007 |
chichimma: This was a very inhuman and racial act of the Dutch police. It has also been condemned by Dutch parlement parties as Groenlinks and D66. In a so called civilized country one can't go to a social event and arrest people just on suspicision or assumptions. Just because they know that half of the vistors do not have papers it does not automatically means that they are into 419. They even arrested 'Osuofia' and later let him go. Those of us here are quite aware that police are controlling people with no papers often in areas but for them to come and do it at social events is extreme and contraversial.
It baffles me how these people think that we are stupid. This had nothing to do with 419 but with arresting people without papers, arresting Africans, in particular Nigerians. They wanted to arrest as much as possible. Kill to birds with one stone, let me tell you people something they have been monitoring Grand Cafe for a long time if not almost two years . This is the only place in Amsterdam where many West- Africans, South Americans come together and party, A place they play makossa, Nigerian and Ghananian music besides the mainstream sounds. A place that makes a lot of money in the weekends. Yeah, some of our people that go to Grand Cafe come to boast, show off and spend lots of money on the girls. They talk loud how they made this kind of money and dupe this kind of person in a public place not knowing that a lot of undercovers and snitches are there monitoring, checking, controlling and reporting. However that is not why the Dutch police should arrest 111 people. Just because they have a suspicion of one or two people. By the way , who says that people with papers or Dutch nationalities are not into 419 ? They use 419 to cover up search of illegals (I hate that word) because for the last few months this has been on the media constantly and the police think they can justify their acts by pushing it on 419.
We know better, I hope we do! The police commissionar has to justify this week the raid of last week to the Dutch parties. I hope something good comes out of the meeting such as releasing the 111 detainees. Otherwise I think that we Africans, (blacks) people living in the Netherlands should protest heavily about this inhuman and racial act. It is a pity that we don't have such organizations here , that will stand up for the Nigerians and Africans in this part of the world. Officially, Grand Cafe is over and if I was one of the organizers or managers I would bring the police to court. It is a big disgrace and offence that the so called abiding law officers implemented on that day. I can't really see why you are complaining. If the majority of these people arrested are truly illegal immigrants and in Holland without papers then they are breaking the law and the police and immigration officials are doing the job they are paid to do. As for the arrests taking place at a social event, so what. I am quite sure the police would not have just raided the place on a whim. It would have been based on prior intelligence. You even suggested as much. (see the bold portion above) |

@Funky
What it all boils down to is credibility.
If you state on your visa application form that you are going to the UK for a two week holiday and you end up spending four months or the whole six months, next time the ECO will wonder why this was. You might have shown on your form that you had sufficient funds for a two week stay. Since you stayed for 6 months the ECO wil suspect in the absence of any other evidence that you might have been working. Having said that the fact you have complied with the conditions of the visa and have not actually overstayed would be in your favour. But no do am to often.
If you are found out to have backdated your entry stamp then you can forget about any further visas for the forseeable future. I'm not sure whether the BHC check with the airlines about passenger departures as a matter of course, but I would suspect that if you give the BHC cause to suspect you then this information can be obtained from the airline by the BHC. However, they would need to know which airline you travelled by before they can start any investigation and this would have to be provided by the passenger. This makes me believe it would be in exceptional circumstances that they would do this. They would be unlikely to go on a fishing exercise unless they are sure they could get the info. |

i filed December 2007 i sent it by fax
they returned the appeal forms saying it was not complete(they didnt get all the pages of the fax)
so i filled a new form and sent appeal through my cousin to mmy uncle in the UK( same people i would have stayed with) he's a lawyer( but does not handle immigration cases per se) so he then sent it to the appeal court. I asked for a oral hearing where uncle would represent me
Since february neither of us have recieved any communcation from them.
The previous appeal was in May 2004 but that was for WHM visa @Salsera I assume you mean December 2006 rather than 2007. Did you receive communication from either the AIT or the ECO in Feb 2007 and if so what was the nature of this communication? Have you tried chasing them for an update? @Ako I'm not sure any benefit can be derived from concentrating on issues/appeals which have already been adjudicated upon. Let us start from the basis of the current refusal and appeal. So if Salsera can upload this refusal and her grounds of appeal (GOA) we will be able to advise further and possibly add suplementary GOAs. Over to you Salsera. |

Imani: LondonCool has said it all. Not quite. If you are getting married in the Church of England(Anglican) then strictly speaking you don't require a marriage visit visa. You will however need to obtain a visit visa to come to the UK in the first place and it is probably better that you are upfront and declare your reasons for coming to the UK to the ECO. It really depends on your personal circumstances as to whether or not you will be granted a visa for whatever purpose you apply, be it settlement or visit. Good luck. |

where are you, don't go on vacation just yet.
Anyways MY CASE
I travelled to the UK in 2003, before that i had gone in 1991 and lived there as a child from 1984-1989 Applied for WHM visa in 2004 was refused, interview was horrible the ECO 'insulted' me all sorts of things, as at then I was employed but salary wasn''t it so iused mum's acct as sponsor I appealled, the date for hearing was 2005 JAN, it was refused , appealed again it was refused. So i continued with my life. Got a new job in 2006 and in November I applied for 2 years, used mum's acct, submitted my employment letter with salary stated, photocopy of company ID CARD
It was paper application, was refused ECO wrote this long page insinuating amongst other things that the stamps of previous travel on my passports were fake, that I didnot show evidenceof funding the trip( i did- submitted my mum's acct) or evidence of economic and family ties( i di , submitted ID card and employment letter where salary is 6 figures)
I appealled again and I have not heard from them till date, not even an acknowledgement that it was recieved
So I throw this open to the house
What do I do? When was your last appeal and to where did you send it? |
