TravelRe: Which Country In Africa Has The Most Beautiful Women? by VOR(m): 3:58pm On May 01, 2007
In general?

Then I've got to give it up for:

Eritrean, Ethiopian and Somali girls in no particular order.
A lot of them have prettiness which is just out of this world.

But I also love my Nigerian and Ghanaian sisters.
TravelRe: Nairobi Photos (kenya): A Beautiful East African City by VOR(m): 2:35pm On May 01, 2007
I have not had the good fortune to visit Nairobi, but my brother has visited twice
and he can attest to the fact that it is a beautiful and civilised city. These pictures
appear to confirm what he has said.

I hope DBLOCK  will take note, that a nice city is not about having lovely tall
buildings it is more than that.

Does anyone notice that most of the pictures of Lagos in this section are of buildings,
hardly any pictures of what life is like on the ground for every Lagosian.

The bank statement was in my sponsor's company name, with a letter from the two banks stating that he is the sole signatory to the accounts.

How do i go about the appeal based on the single ground i was been refused.

Thanx.
Jeje sorry to hear your news. Is this your second refusal because you posted another refusal letter in February which is different from this one.

This particular refusal is in my opinion down to two factors.

1. They are not satisfied with your sponsors financilal ability to fund you based on the account and evidence you submitted.
2. Even if the account funds were satisfactory you have been unable to show that those funds would be available for
your use.

I addressed point two in a previous post to you, have a look at it here:
https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria?topic=40828.msg912356#msg912356

You really have to remedy these points should you consider an appeal or re-application.
I'm not sure what Mr Pataki meant by having an "internal consideration" of your case.

Good luck.

Ubamu

I have my doubts whether or not this is true.
Firstly, correct me if I am wrong but the 20 hour rule
only applies during term time so during holidays there is
no limit. Also the information provided by your NI will not
say how many hours one has worked. It will only say how
much tax and nat. insurance has been paid. I agree that
a large amount of tax would suggest one is working more than
the stipulated 20 hours.

I just don't think there is sufficient manpower for the Homeoffice
to start checking all students work status. I think they will only
pursue an individual student if that student gives them cause
to suspect which has always been the case.
RomanceRe: I Wanna Be Single Cos Am Gamophobic, Is It A Big Issue? by VOR(m): 3:48pm On Apr 20, 2007
There ia a big difference between being a single lady and a single parent.
If you choose to be a single lady, fine, as it only concerns you.Being a single
parent however is different because you have to consider the well being of not just
yourself.

In my experience kids ordinarily would benefit from the love and security of
a two parent family. Obviously there are exceptions but to deliberately go out
to be a single mother from the off might not be in the best interest of the child.
TravelRe: Uk Student Visa And Fake Bank Statements by VOR(m): 12:02pm On Apr 20, 2007
Jeje

I think it simply boils down to manpower.
The British HC cannot check each and every
document submitted in support of each and every
visa. It takes time and effort and I doubt they have
the staff to do so . Invarably some forgeries will slip
through the net.

People who get turned down even though they present
genuine documents, I'm sure are not being turned down
because the ECO believes they are fake, but for other reasons
e.g sudden large dposits or maybe the amount in the account
is not consistent with the earnings of the account holder and
no reasonable explanation has been given for this inconsistency.

How far with your application?

Thanks for the information,i really do appreciate. From your reply,it means that my younger ones would have to apply for visas but does being born in England give them an added advantage?
Glad I can be of help Lili.

I'm afraid the fact that your siblings were born in the UK
does not necessarily give them an advantage. Each application
for any visa is supposed to be considered on its merits by the
British HC.

However, if they can show they still have close ties to the UK
this should be taken into account. How old are they?

@VOR. You said her siblings that were born in the U.K. after 1983 wouldn't be eligible to live there permanently only to visit or study? What kind of useless country is that!
K2
Prior to that date almost everyone born in the UK, even if they only lived there for a day after birth
automatically qualified for British citizenship. The British Nationality Act of 1981 changed this in 1983.

Until quite recently Ireland was in the same position as the UK was in 1983. They then found themselves
with a massive influx of pregnant women coming to Ireland from all over the world just to give birth so the child could obtain Irish citizenship. In virtually all these cases the parents then qualified for Irish residency as well through the child.
Nigerians were of course at the forefront of this exploitation of the system

I believe the Irish too have now blocked this loophole.

I don't see it as the British or Irish being stupid but just being prudent.

If you are satisfied that you will get the passport than that is fine.
As a British national they don't really need an address from you.
It certainly isn't a pre-requisite prior to them issuing you your passport.

Once you have your passport you should have no problems entering the UK.

Your younger siblings will not be entitled to settle in the UK, but that does
not preclude them visiting you or applying to study.

Hope this helps and good luck.

@VOR
I was born in the Uk before the 31st of Dec.1982
Guess that makes me a citizen, right.

As I said, yes, unless your parents were here on diplomatic service.

I have visited the embassy twice, was given an application form on the 2nd visit and a list of supporting documents which i should get which includes my results from primary school till date. The one that is most outrageous is "mother's original antenatal/postnatal/delivery notes or certified copies from the hospital+letter from hospital confirming birth".how d they expect me to get this?

Try and write to the hospital, you can do this under the freedom of information act. They will still
probably have your records.

Now,please let me know what u presented to them before they granted your application.
How long does it take for the passport to be ready?

I obtained my passport in the UK a longgggggggggg time ago.
I don't know how long it would take to get your passport in Nigeria.
It would depend on how straightforward your case is.

Since i am a citizen,what rights do i have?
what are my entitlements?

You have the same rights as any other UK national once you
have established this to the satisfaction of the High Commission.

Do i still need the ROA and Certificate of entitlement or does having a british passport cover all these?

You don't need a ROA once you have your UK passport, although if you have a Nigerian passport
you may still wish to get it endorsed into it.

What kind of job do i get?Government job?because i blieve i shuld be given beta trtment even if i am second class.

You don't get a job here just because you are a citizen, first class or not. You have to apply for the job like everyone
else. As regards government jobs, some will be closed to you at first because even as a citizen you still have to meet
residency requirements. E.G THE FOREIGN OFFICE AND MINISTRY OF DEFENCE.

i was asked to pay 31,000 naira at the embassy.infact the lady at the lagos embassy asked me to bring that amount for the passport on my next visit.

A first issue passport in the UK I believe costs about £40. So you do the maths.

Assuming i do not have a place to stay, are they not supposed to provide one for me?

No they aren't, once you come here you are on your own. Make sure you have good friends
or family you can stay with initially till you find your feet.

Do i still need a Nigerian Passport?

That is entirely up to you as to whether you need one. My personal opinion is nothing
wrong in having one. It will be useful when you visit home.(Nigeria)

@mrpataki,@Akolawole,@londoncool and others, please your contributions will also be appreciated.

Thanks while i await your replies.

@ Lili
Ordinarily you will be a citizen, if born prior to 01/01/83, unless
your parents were Nigerian diplomats when you were born.
I assume you left the UK at a very young age.

Unfortunately for you, you are applying for a UK passport
at a time when fraud, fraudulent applications and identity theft
by our nationals and those of other countries I must add is very
prevalent. As a result the British High Commission has to be very
careful to whom they issue passports. Indeed even in the uk, it will
soon be mandatory for anyone applying for a first UK passport to be
interviewed. This never used to be the case.

Any information you can provide to prove your place and date of birth
will assist them in dealing with your application. These can as they say,
include hospital records, doctors records,(I assume your mum was registered with the
NHS), school records and even pictures of you in the UK.

If this fails, there are other legitimate ways around it which I will let you know.

TravelRe: Pictures of Lagos Skyline (City-Scape) by VOR(m): 3:37pm On Apr 17, 2007
I must admit the one thing I'm glad about with regards to the Lagos skyline is that
most new build residences seem to have done away with the corrugated
iron roofs. These had a tendency to rust and from the air give the city a
rather run down and dilapidated look.

Most roofs are either green or red and make the city, at least when viewed
from the air, much more modern.

Here is  the link to where this picture originated from.
There are several other interesting pictures depicting
various places in Nigeria taken a long time ago.

If you can take the time to read the whole diary
it is really interesting and gives a view of Nigeria
through a racist colonist. If you read the sentence
immediately above the first picture you will know why
I call her a racist. Sad I know, but nevertheless
you get a sense to some extent
of what Nigeria was like in those days.

I'm going to play devil's advocate here, set the cat among the pigeons so to speak.

But man, Nigerians are so easy to please. Why the hell is there so much fuss about the
opening of  a glorified shopping centre/mall? Because to me that is all Tinapa appears to be.

Can somebody please explain.

TravelRe: Why Do People 'Disrespect' London? by VOR(m): 11:47am On Apr 13, 2007
dblock:
It's a figure of speech wink.
I mean, I've being to London's top attractions, like Hyde Park, London Bridge, Trafalgar Square, Big Ben, London Eye, Greenwhich etc. And the maintenance isn't all that. The subway which is for all people those who live there and those who visit 'Rich and poor' is pathetic for a developed country. The trains need replacement. Even the majority of shopping centres and department stores have poor architecture. London should be renamed Brickdon. A city is not judged by the North part of it, or the south part of it. A city is judged by every corner and every bit.

Economic Status, is not perception. It's like saying rich people can't see the flaws in Ghettos, and poor people can't see good things. Every city has it's good and bad, but generally London isn't Hype. I can wite a detailed thesis as to why that is. This is not personal.
Exactly my point, the places you have mentioned form only a small part of London,
probably encompassing a radius of no more than 3-4 miles excluding Greenwich.

What is wrong with Hyde Park? It is a great place to relax especially in Summer.
And unlike Lagos or even Abuja practically every district in London has parks. You
see Dblock enjoying a city isn't just about having tall buildings.

You mention London Bridge, I don't think anyone who lives in London and
knows the city will tell you to visit London Bridge as a must. I can only assume you
are getting mixed up with Tower Bridge. Which is an imposing piece of
architecture, not to talk of the history behind it.

The London eye is the most visited tourist attraction in London and this is
within 6 years. Have you ever been on it yourself. In my work I often come
into contact with tourists and the number one place they want to go is the eye.

Cant understand what you mean by lack of maintenance of these sites. If you mean
they should be modernised then this will take away a lot of their attraction in the
first place, that is their age and history.

You complain about the MAJORITY of shopping centres. I wonder how many you
have actually been to to consider you have been to the majority. I hope you didn't
just go to Elephant and Castle shopping centre and consider this to be reflective of
all shopping centres in London. Have you ever heard of Bluewater or even Centrale
in Croydon?

I would agree with you to some extent about the underground. Yes service can be poor
it is expensive compared to other European systems and on some lines it is well antiquated.
It is still however a reasonably reliable means of getting around and certain parts of it are as modern
as you will see in any place in the world. Understand that it is the oldest metro in the world and I think
the most extensive. Over the years improvemens will take place.

London aint perfect (which city is?) but it has a lot more going for it than against it.

I have been to every corner of London, and the city is more like a heritage site than a city with Hype. London is just a typical british city, with too much brick. but with that said, London isn't half bad.
Yeah right, every corner indeed, people have lived here all their lives and still
don't know the city that well.
You who just passed through claim to know all there is to know about London.

At the end of the day, London is different things to different people. All depends
on your status and why it is you live or visit London.
