you will need to define what a 'very good area' actually means. if you want a piece of land in lekki and environs, you shld be thinking of millions but if you go to places like Mowe, Ibafo, ibadan etc, you shld be able to get a piece for that amount if you have a 100k until you are ready to venture into private business ![]() |
wanaj0:Platinum declared 1-for-4 and it was effected yesterday, that is where the 3.4b units came from |
Guys, let us look at this issue from both sides. Tax increase is bad for everybody so the 200% increase is not cool, but there will be a simulataneous drop in income tax . what this means is that you have more of your income to take home (especially for people who fall into the high income tax bracket) and you can decide whether you will purchase the goods (luxury goods) that incur VAT or not. the downside is that goods that are not supposed to be incur VAT might be taxed and artisans and people (commuter buses, meat sellers etc) who are not supposed to be charging VAT will increase prices since the govt will not manage the process well BTW: VAT in the US is as high as 8.25% in some states and it is about 19% in the Eurozone but that is not an excuse for us to peg our VAT at the 15% |
Excellent, so you actually found a job that pays you what you ought to be earning. at your age, i agree it might be a challenge to get an entry level job so you might want to start prep'ing urself for leadership roles (supervisor, manager jobs etc) if you ever decide you want to work as an employee again very good, Keep it up |
@Fufu_King i looked at ur post history on the topic and i take it u are uncircumcised. be that as it may, you need to understand that the purpose of this thread is not to criticise circumcision or uncircumcision but to look at the concept from various point of views. there's nothing to be touchy about, it's always better to look at things objectively simply for their own merit. there are so many links on this thread that points you to sites where you can read professional views on the topic to make informed decisions and conclusions and i think that is what you shld do. if you are a professional in the medical field and you made the comment that 'babies can break bones like an adult' (refer to your reply to my earlier post), then somebody needs to revoke ur license because you dont know ur sh-t but i believ you are not in the medical field. i can assure you that if you talk to any WHO official concerning those stats, they will tell you that, it is a best estimate and not accurate based on the data available to them at the time of putting together the report. most of the countries in ur list are third world countries where medical records are not kept, where health services are poor and people believe more in traditional practises for things like circumcision because for them the driving force behind circumcision is either culture or religion not health, so how do u expect this people to have routine medical practise of circumcision? what u saw in the WHO report is talking about countries where circumcision is part of the routine medical service you get from hospital |
1000 units. all comer wanted ![]() |
makemoney:there is no job security anywhere in the world not even in japan that used to give lifetime employment. your 2.1 is no guarantee of anything, i expect that in four yrs you wrote many tests with other graduates, if you were not able to secure those jobs, that shld tell you that maybe you are not as good as you imagine you are and you need to keep working on yourself dont forget the adage that says, 'to continue to be in front in a race, you need to run faster!' |
Well, you have to weigh the pros and cons. ask yourself the following questions do u have a means of sustenance e.g family willing and able to provide you food and shelter while you look for better opportunities? can you do something more fruitful and productive with yourself in terms of financial returns if you dont accept this job? will this job prevent you from looking for better jobs? if your answers are yes to all of the above then you are better off without this job. but if No, then you might want to consider starting from there. there is no shame in humble beginnings. the problem we have these days are young people with BIG wishes instead of BIG dreams. people who start small and dream big are ready to put in the mental and physical effort to make the dreams come true but most people want to have priviledges but are not ready to take the responsibilities that go with those priviledges i started out in 2001 post NYSC as a part time computer lecturer for 5000 naira a month but i knew that was not the place for me and my answers to those questions i posed earlier were even yes at the time |
Nduvic:does she know how you feel and do u think she feels the same way? if your answers are yes to the 2 questions, i'd suggest you think seriously about this and convince yourself you are still going to feel this way about her once you start making money and then commit yourself to her right from now. by the time you're ready to settle down you will both have had a long and rich courtship. then you're convinced she's not getting married to you because you're rich but because of who you are deep inside you (she was there when you had nothing) |
@seun if one story that is probably not a true life story (i agree most of the scenarios happen in Jewish communities where the wife is non Jew) is what you have read and you have already made a decision that will deeply impact your unborn sons, then it's a shame. i dont care about longstanding traditions or religious beliefs influencing a decision. i care more about the proven and documented health advantages of the procedure! heck, the people trying to make a case against male cirucmcision are only talking about the effect it has on the level of orgasm experienced by men and they dont even have clear-cut data to show that a circumcised male enjoys a lower degree of orgasm when compared to an uncircumcised male for the record, a baby feels less pain and heals faster than an adult because the baby is still growing rapidly! nerve endings, organs, tissues etc are all still growing between 0 days - 365 days and probbly more. a baby cannot even break a bone!!! you know why? cause the bones are soft and still growing. so all the talk of the pain the baby will feel is not enough reason to not circumcise a baby if you say you want to leave the decision to your sons and it ever becomes medical necessary for them to do it, you would have contributed to causing them more pain (the actual procedure pain you wanted to avoid and that of the medical condition that necesitated the procedure as a medical remedy) finally, the world has a population of about 6.6billion, active muslims account for over 1.1billion people, active orthodox & protestant christians who also believe in circumcision account for about 2 billion, so where did the data of 3:1 ratio of uncircumcised to circumcised males come from? so, if for long term health reasons, you plan to subject your unborn sons to vaccinations and other preventive health procedures, you might as well go the whole length because, even though circumcision started out as a religious practise, it has been found to actually have more health basis than religious basis and is presently classified as a preventive health procedure |
MyPeace:dont quote me but i will suggest you cautiously put in some money. ![]() you might not get the spectacular returns you're presently dreaming about if they do what dunlop did (delayed release of certificates |
@ temmie & Shigidi, Japaul has factored in this new shares being offered in their calculations of the forward EPS going from 2008 to 2009. it is not unusual for the EPS to reduce (2008) after a new offer because u are dividing ur old earnings projections by a larger number of shares whilst the actual returns expected from the new capital has not started showing significantly @MyPeace the new offer will be listed as soon as the allotment is done and final approval is received from the appropriate body, that can happen from late 2007, early 2008 to worst case; late 2008 (highly unlikely) |
MyPeace:are you talking about JaPaul offer? |
surugede:i will suggest you read this thread from the beginning and also go to the 'Business' section of the nairaland site and read through any thread that mentions STOCKS, SHARES, CSCS, STOCKBROKING, PUBLIC OFFER etc in the topic. you shld be able to pick up a lot of background info from answers to people who have asked the same questions in the past |
the 50k is the nominal value of the shares, that is, a basis on which the ownership of the company can be shared amongst the owners for the purpose of transfer in future. if the company liquidates, it does not mean u will get 50k per share, it means whatever the company as left that can be shared will be divided by the number of outstanding shares of the company and shared amongst the owners. the current market price e.g N17.50k is the amount an average investor is willing to pay to own that 50k portion of the company @MT the words shares and units can be used interchangeably, they mean the same thing in the world of stock investment |
i hope by 'registered' u meant you have completed the online form and submitted, made payment to their designated account and sent in a copy of the teller to them? if not, you have not really registered ![]() |
There is nothing to be afraid of, ur shares in all states would have been converted to Ecobank shares. if you're in a hurry to know how many ecobank shares you are now the proud owner of, visit ESL in lagos (raufu taylor, i think it's off adeola odeku) , ph or warri and find out from them. all they need is ur surname , signature and probably a sighting of your all states cert to confirm u're the owner of the shares bon chance |
yet to receive mine but a colleague has received his and his wife's and i think i have heard of people on this forum who have received theirs. just a matter of time, you shld receive urs if nipost does not do the thing they know how to do most (loose letters) cheers |
Go to First Registrar at Iganmu just beside Nigerian Breweries and make a formal complaints that you have not received your post merger cert. if it has been returned to them as undelivered, they will hand it to you. if it has got lost in transit, you'll go thru the process of requesting a fresh one best of luck |
the guaranteed return is about 20% p.a. |
Atilla, check out the thread on 'stocks that can make you rich in 2007' you should be able to find a post and a link to sterling capital website where you can get the prospectus and read the views of some of the guys. cant drop the prospectus here cause it's larger than 200kb that d site admin allows |
there are no charges to you when you are buying or redeeming your investment. the fund managers fees will already be factored in before the final cash distribution that is supposed to come to you at the end of the financial yr. all you need to worry about is the current value or capital appreciation on your investment. multiply no of units by bid value ![]() |
to go out with or marry a girl who earns more than a guy, the guy needs a lot of patience, sincere love and appreciation of the girl plus a strong and enviable character to earn the respect of the girl. and that is where most guys miss the point, RESPECT is earned. it is not anybody's birth right it is human nature to psychologically behave as if you are better than someone if u have more than them and in the case of women, they need to be convinced that the guy is a MAN who can take care of his business (family etc) and is genuinely interested in being with them, so a girl will naturally throw things at you to test your mental maturity, resilience, sincerity and love it is your duty as THE man to understand the dynamics and earn her respect by loving her |
i hear dangote flour is coming, fcmb, probably afribank too |
if they used to be owned by STB then you should go to the registered office stated on your policy. or go to standard trust assurrance office to make enquiries |
i dont think nigeria's case is as bad as that of Ghana and a redenomination at this time is ill advised. we do not have the institutional structures necessary to sustain what the CBN governor planned and it might not favor us in the long run. after the consolidation of the banks, i was hoping he will push the nigerian financial industry in the direction of sustainable collaboration and support for the productive industry and gradually move the country from a consumer nation to a producer nation dont forget that japanese and chinese yen are priced at about a hundred yen to the dollar and these are countries that came from where nigeria is and have become world class economies, yet they have not moved their zero by 2 decimal places to the left despite the fact that they have the economic and institutional strength to support such a policy, so why should nigeria do something like that? because ghana did it? ghana's economy is a tiny fraction of nigeria's economy even in the sorry state that nigeria's economy is in before declaring support, take time to understand the wider implications of that policy. it is not a bad policy initself but it is not what we need at this time in nigeria. it is like putting the cart before the horse!!! we need to start producing and relying less on oil money and imports from other countries |
Baby Glow, i read your original message and a few other comments from other members and i feel i should just make the following comments: if you are truly a virgin at 28 yrs, it is commendable and definitely not out of fashion, i think somebody said something about it being out of fashion, believe me that is not true ![]() if you give it up now after coming so far, you would be giving up your chances of honoring the man who will finally make up his mind to spend the rest of his life with you, the prestige of being the first and only? man to ever sleep with you and the 28yr wait would have been for nothing. that counts for very serious something with some men ![]() i am disappointed with some of your replies to some comments made about you by some guys in the group, i agree those comments were not gracious but you compounded the whole issue with your unguarded retorts and i feel they are very unbecoming of someone who claims to be a virgin. i know a few ladies who are in your category and i hear and observe them respond to challenges and comments, they dont sound the way you sounded in those posts at all i think you should kill this thread and continue working on making yourself a woman who deserves to have a real man by her side. |
until you are ready to venture into private business
is bad for everybody so the 200% increase is not cool, but there will be a simulataneous drop in income tax
