you dont just supply stuff off the bat. if d person u met is a DG, then the question is, what ministry? what are the things they use and need? what are the things they lack which of these things can you get? you might want to take a reconnaissance trip to the ministry to get info about how the place works that way you wont look like an idiot when you drop a proposal to supply stuff not needed by the ministry |
guys, this is still not clear. is there any way one can contact CSCS directly to find out what info they have on you. i have registered with 4 brokers over time and i know they have different alphanumeric numbers against my name |
So why are you selling off if there's so much room for profit makiing? why are you not making the profit for yourself? |
@ Gees & Chaj guys you need to thread cautiously. you dont want to be responsible for misinforming over 150000 members of dis blog. i think there's an error in the page you saw concerning UNIC. the table u guys saw (2nd one) is sayin unaudited half year result for the period ended june 30 2007 but the header is saying 2006 and 2005 . with a turnover that 's 61% more than d previous year, PBT that's 24% more than d previous year and similar taxation amount, there's no way u can have a loss after tax the first table is the 2006 full year result and they made less profit than in 2005, it is not that they didnt make a profit. and they have already declared what dividend they ar giving for last year |
@poster, it might be tempting for you to let this play out but believe me, the last thing you want to do is betray your friend!!! no matter how fine the girl is, let her be! call your friend and ask him wots up? let him know that his babe has been complaining to you that he's cheating on her (leave out the messy details of her crying on ur shoulders, sleeping in ur house etc), whatever you do, make sure you are not the reason they break up if they eventually break up |
skelewagy:if you go to page 1 on this thread and start reading, i can assure you by the time you get to page 10, you shld have a fairly good idea what stocks and company results are about and if you make it to d last page before Dec 31st, you shld be ready to take bold steps in stock investing come 2008happy reading ![]() |
osazeet:technically, you can. the law of demand & supply still hold sway but the price can't move in response to it. you will probably just have a longer wait for the sell order to be executed if everybody is waiting for the reconstruction to be concluded rather than buy d old stock. |
MyPeace:which broker do u use? |
@madeonline you are throwing in more confusion. IykeD said CSCS no- the alphanumeric, you are saying CHN no - All numeric. which one should we run with? i have been using alphanumeric on all my PO forms since 2006 but i have had to get my certs by mail. dont forget the issue of direct credit to CSCS is new, so people need to know which way to go to take advantage of it when it is fully implemented pls guys, somebody should clarify is it CSCS (Alphanumeric) or CHN NO (all digits) |
RoughCut:amen to that bro |
@ALL picked this up from somewhere "The Nigerian Stock Exchange has today placed WEMA BANK Plc on technical suspension following the receipt of its application for reconstruction of the Bank's issued share capital/foreign capital injection." |
UDK:the reason GlobeRe is not on that list is that they are technically supposed to have become one entity with Nigerian-Re. i understand that now that govt has basically revoked the sale of Nigerian RE, Globe RE can de-merge from Nigerian Re and stand on their own |
upward:got your text but i didnt know who it was (u didnt put ur name at the end of the text) 1. some of the other eggheads in d house have expressed reservations about Bagco at the offer price. you might want to review their line of thoughts earlier on this thread. 2. i will suggest you indeed buy ARM Aggressive growth fund if you are interested in mutual funds 3. i wont advise you to sell a stock like GTbank to buy Transcorp. in the short term, GTB will give you more returns than transcorp can give you. GTB has been consistent over the years but Transcorp is just starting out all da best |
UDK: Grouppoint:Gents, Globe-RE is a re-insurance company and have taken steps to meet the capitalization requirement. i expect their name will be on that list that has been released and they should be able to get listed very soon, the industry brouhaha caused by J.I stalled their listing plans but now that things are beginneing to look up for d consolidation, they shld be able to move forward If Nigerian-Re does indeed have a substantial stake in Globe-Re (i dont think it will materially affect the going concern nature of Globe-Re), i will expect steps to be taken to offload Nigerian-Re's holding to another core investor or current investors there's really nothing to worry about |
aquita:the first step is to find out who d registrar to the company is and tell them what the issues are. they will be able to advise you appropriately all da best |
UDK:What ties are you talking about? can you be more explicit so that you can get insightful responses from d house |
Roland E:if you have a CSCS acct already, oceanic will probably credit it directly.they are pioneering that new trend in naija. otherwise, you will need to be patient like someone already advised you and considering tha fact that you said you're new to stock investing, i will advise that you dont sell a stock that has given you close to 100% capital gains in less than a year and even before you receive the certificate to go and buy insurance stocksif you are attracted to insurance stocks, i think you should source a different fund for it rather than liquidating a high performing stock like oceanic. believe me, you want to still hold that oceanic for some time |
ar u sure you read that publication well ![]() they said november 20 is when they will credit the CSCS acct of those who indicated it on their application form and then post that of the others cool ur mind |
dejacrue:the fact that any offer is 80% underwritten by any business entity is not supposed to give u any confidence!!! it is just a regulatory requirement by SEC & NSE gor all offers in nigeria. the only implication of the under-writing is that bagco is sure of getting that 80% of the amount they are asking for even if no single person buys the shares. the fact that zenith is underwriting is not also an implication that Jim Ovia thinks bagco is a business he wants to get involved with, it is just a subsidiary of the zenith group doing their own business and i can assure you, they have negotiated their reward for putting the zenith name on that offer!!! so if u base your decision to buy on the 80% underwriting, you are off by a very long shot if the fundamentals are wrong |
Tanushka, as you have been advised by an earlier post, blood oath is not a nigerian thing!!! it is quite rare in modern day nigeria. it is a universally EVIL practise that can jeopardise your life. do not allow him to force you into such a thing all the best |
@all, i think the take away from this thread is, dont give ur girl friend flowers as a gift (apologies to any babe who appreciates flowers)if you are inclined to give flowers, wait till you have committed to a woman (probably in marriage) and there's no doubt in her mind about your ability to give her gifts and for heaven's sake, buy real flowers!!! dont buy all those artificial flowers they sell at gift shops , the value of giving flowers is first the symbolism and second, the fragrance. artificial flowers have no smell so the meaning is lost on a womanif you must give your girl friend flowers by force, add the flower to the 'gift' to make a single package |
samstone4:@samstone4 you are not wrong. but when u do buy in the secondary market, your money goes directly to the former owner who probably gave money directly to the company when they did an IPO, so in a roundabout way, you have given money to the company to do business and they will share the profit with you at the end of the year. even though you have not given money to the company but you own a piece of the company (represented by your shareholding) and can therefore lay claim to the residual assets of the company at the end of the yr. |
lotex:if there's no will and there's no other person in ur family fighting you for the right to those shares, just get the other things on the list i gave you and go to the registrars office. they dont really need to know if there's a will or not. all they need is a confirmation that your dad is late and that you are the child who can take charge of those stocks |
Step 1. gather all the share certificates no matter how old Step 2. get his death certificate ready and with you Step 3. if he wrote a will, make sure the will states that you are the beneficiary of all those shares (his lawyer should be with you on this one) Step 4. have your birth certificate or a medical proof that you are his offspring step 5. approach the registrars of those companies (written on the cert) and present your case if you have done your home work well, the shares will be transferred to your name in their books\ all the best |
RoughCut:agree with your observation, but you need to factor sovereignty into the equation. yes there are convertible debt instruments but there is a govt directive that will prevent these foreign investor from converting all their instruments into equity if it will give them controlling stake in the biggest banks. the main thrust of the directive is to prevent foreigners from taking over the management of the biggest banks. \ case in point, once IBTC gets into that league, Standard bank will have to give up some %age holding by either selling some of their 51% or diluting by PO i think that will be good for nigeria in the long run. it helps to keep the bulk of the profit in the nigerian economy |
@poster, i noticed that almost everybody who had replied to ur post has said you should let the child hook up wit the dad but from ur story, there was a lot of negative emotions and issues leading up to ur separation from the father. so the question i'd ask if i was u is, why does he want to hook up wit the child after 10 years? what has changed since the day he abandoned the child because you and him cant get along? any duck wit a dick can produce a child but it takes a man to raise one. he has not been there for the child up to now so why does he now want to be a part of his life? if the answers to these questions are clear and acceptable to you, please let them hook up. otherwise, just let the child know the father still exist and have a picture of him for recognition purposes and when he comes of age and is able to make his own decisions, let him decide whether he wants to meet the father or not |
Naijadr:if you are in lagos, you should rush down to first registrars office at iganmu (beside Nigerian Breweries) and give them your CSCS number to attach to your details in their register of shareholders |
@wanaj0 & MyPeace, is it possible to get ones hands on trans express shares? |
not sure they have any problem but i did see in the news on friday afternoon that some people were withdrawing in panic because of the rumor u mentioned. i'm in warri n not sure which channel i was watching when i saw it considering the new size of the bank, i think it's a baseless rumor |
if you have the time, just walk to their office and get them to sign it. then you give d signed doc to ur new broker who will take it to CSCS for action if you send your new broker with the document and ask him to follow up with the old broker, they will just collect the doc, acknowledge collection and leave d doc in a file because the new broker cannot demand immediate attention but as a client, if you dedicate a day to go to the broker and ask that they sign, they have to do it if they still refuse to respect the client relationship you have had with them, then you need to report them to SEC & NSE all da best |
@easimoni, pumpiing777 & wanaj0 can i pick your brains on CAP PLC? in august, they got up to 53 naira, now they are about 50 naira and they have paid 3.25 naira as div for 2006 n 2007 do u guys have anything on the company? and the sector generally |
Rob-roy:as u have been advised, you need to rank d offers and make up ur mind which ones to go for based on the resources available to you. i will only differ on the issue of borrowing money to invest. some investments are almost like a once in a lifetime opportunity e.g. NAHCO PO at 3 naira or thereabout back in 2005, anybody who borrowed money to buy back then should have gone on a vac to the maldives by now. my point is, dont borrow money to gamble (trying to prey on market euphoria), do ur analysis if you're given to analysing and make sure u are convinced the stock is part of ur plan, then if you must borrow to get a leg in, do it. dont forget that there are good debt and bad debt!!! question to ask is, which one are u getting into |
