Oceanic released their end-of-year result declaring N1.02 dividend per share, please will investors that participated in their last public offer benefit?
oceanic made it clear that the subscribers to the new PO will only qualify for dividends in the business year ended 30 september 2007 if the proceeds from the offer is received by them at least 3 months before that date. they factored in the regulatory bottlenecks and made that statement to encourage investors.

so, i dont think the new PO will qualify for dividends

egoldman:
I do not know how u got by this info , but my broker went to gtb and they told here its must that i have a domm account , in any case i suspect leaving the domm account block empty might mean my allocation might be rejected and money returned to me only when God knows , so i would prefer to buy another stock that has rather few complexities .
yes, you must have a dom account to enable them remit your dividends but dont forget that the GDR is easily tradeable, if you have not received your return money, then probably you can get the GDR at the lower price right now as opposed to those of us that received the allotment at the initial price.

i have received the excess portion of the money that i paid, so if you have not received yours, you might want to open a dom account and ask them to purchase for you. if you dont have a dom account, just open one with GTB. i think if you open a savings or current account with them coupled with your interest in GDR, they might waive the 6months incubation period for you

all da best

@fatherOf2, ololufemi et al,

i have quoted my CHN number (alphanumeric) on all POs i have subscribed to since 2006 and not one has been credited directly to my CSCS account, I have had to wait for the certificates to come before sending them in for verification. i have just started quoting the CSCS no (numeric) and i am waiting to see if it will be any different
BusinessRe: So Much For The MTN Private Placement Offer! by walcolm(m): 4:10pm On Dec 20, 2007
babareketaiwo:
When I got the info about Mtn's private recruitment, I thought within myself that it was a practical joke but I manage to put my friend's name down but he failed to do as he was directed to do (PR). Surprisingly, the gother guy that complied with the instruction was taken for immediate employment. When my friend who did not do as he was directed to do heard of his appointment, he felt sober because he too was contacted through the recruiting agent to do the same thing of which he refused to comply. I still have the detail of the agent in case you may have interest in contacting him for further clarification.
this thread is talking about a private placement not RECRUITMENT!!! are u sure u're on the right thread

not sure they will extend. it closed on friday but if you walk into any zenith bank with cash in hand, they will accept it from you. note the emphasis on cash in hand
BusinessRe: Zenith Bank! What Is The Minimum Amount by walcolm(m): 5:09pm On Dec 14, 2007
you will still pay the 36.90 but u have no guarantees that you will get the extra. the extra is supposed to come from those shareholders who dont take up their rights at all or partially

so in a scenario where there's massive over subscription, everybody will probably take up their rights and ask for more, that makes it kinda messy

my advise is, take up ur rights and dont ask for more. at least u are guaranteed to get ur rights
InvestmentRe: Looking For A Buyer For Your Shares? by walcolm(m): 5:04pm On Dec 14, 2007
@frankirri,

the major challenge to what u are trying to initiate on this thread is that there's no individual tradin portal in nigeria yet so u cant sell shares to someone based on gentleman's agreement etc

some stockbrokers like IBTC will not even want to hear that they should sell ur stock to a particular person because they are supposed to deal with brokers like themselves and they usually do bulk sales and purchases.

i think what we should do is let people align by stockbroker and then arrange intermember transfer, that will reduce the push back you get from stockbrokers since they stand to make all the commission

just my take

kayusfemo:
Hi people can u tell me more about mutua fund and ordinary share.
Thanks huh
mutual funds are created by fund managers to help people who dont want to or who dont have the time to manage their own investments. mutual funds are a pool of funds from many people that is invested according to a pre-determined investment philosophy and plan.

ordinary shares represent the minimum units of ownership in companies. mutual funds invest in ordinary shares and other investment types

does gtb run it`s own mutual fund
no, GTB does not run a mutual fund yet. they were party to kick starting the ARM discovery but after sometime, they opted out of the ownership and ARM is now stand alone
InvestmentRe: Best Nigerian Mutual Funds To Invest In? by walcolm(m): 4:24pm On Dec 14, 2007
first bank heritage fund is an open ended mutual fund that gives returns to unit holders via capital appreciation & cash distribution. you can get in and get out at any time (but you must stay in for at least 6 months after your purchase). the N100 value is just the starting value, they could have started with N1, or N20 etc

it can help u diversify your investment portfolio so that everything is not just in stocks or real estate or bank savings

we all need to realise that this is a public forum and the opinion(s) expressed here are personal to each individual and the onus is on us as individuals to verify the info we come across and we are each solely responsible for whatever views we choose to adopt.

now that the possiblity of unscrupulous use of the forum to take advantage of undiscerning members has been brought to the fore, i hope regulars on this thread especially those who are just starting out in stock market investment, will be cautious of what information they act upon

BusinessRe: What Defines A Millionaire? by walcolm(m): 8:44am On Dec 11, 2007
@ALL,

i think the issue of currency reference should not come up. if you are a nigerian, your reference currency is naira!!! if you live inanother country and conduct ur business in that country, you should work with the currency of that country, more often than not, by the time you achieve millionaire status in that country, you are already a millionaire in naira terms.

to define a millionaire, your networth (the fair value of what you own less the fair value of what you owe) should consistently be more than 1 million over a period of time.

anytime your networth falls below that 1 million mark, you stop being a millionaire until you turn things around again.

@aylala2002,

great write up, well done.

i think we should stick with 'Stocks that will make you RICH in 2007' (you have a typo in the present topic, you typed RICK instead of RICH)

when you say 'Hot Stock, ' it dampens the incisive and well thought out contributions of the members

well done again aylala2002 and a very merry christmas to us all

InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by walcolm(m): 7:13pm On Nov 28, 2007
@oshkosh & Samstone

i think if the sale of NITEL is reversed and Transcorp gets a full refund, it will be a major plus for the financials of transcorp!!! (note that i emphasise full refund): full refund would mean, initial cash outlay plus all incurred cost in attempting to revive NITEL

gents, believe me, the NITEL deal has been the bane of transcorp, if they had not gone into that deal and had started a fresh telecoms company of their own, their story would have been way different.

have u guys wondered why you have not seen the top transcorp echelon commenting on the nitel sale reviewhuh it is because these guys know that if they get a second chance to buy or not to buy, THEY WILL NOT BUY. getting rid of NITEL from the transcorp portfolio will be a major boost.

so i beg to differ with the school of thought that still believes the NITEL deal is vital to transcorp survival, that is now old thinking based on the current realities.

if that sale reversal is concluded today and the terms are that transcorp get a full refund from the govt, you will be shocked that the share price of transcorp will probably double within weeks

AdvertsRe: CHILD MONITORING SECURITY GSM PHONE - DISTRIBUTORS WANTED by walcolm(m): 8:47am On Nov 26, 2007
this is a great device but the down side i can see immediately is that kids and their friends will play with the buttons because it look like teddy and children love to play with toys consequently, parents phones will keep ringing non-stop even when there's no emergency

a different shape or massive orientation of children will be needed to avoid this.

People (Wanajo, Pumping777, Easimoni, Yodiyokun, Fatherof2, Emaachille,Aktopgun,shigidi,timoni, other fellow Nairalanders)

remember, wherever there's a will, there's always a way & IMPOSSIBLE IS NOTHING

i agree trust is a major issue in matters relating to money but if we put a proper legal framework around the investment club such that any member who becomes aggrieved for amy reason can seek legal recourse to protect their capital and earned returns, that should help allay fears as far as trust is concerned.

a transparent management that truly answers to the members should also help to keep excesses in check

what say you all?

you are free to hold any belief you like but be careful what you say about other people. angry either you probably did not bother to read the story from the link seun provided or u did not understand what was in the story.

it was obasanjo who gave the directive, after his trip from tunisia, for the government company (galaxy) that will remove the monopoly this guys are trying to force to be created. so why you are giving somebody else credit for another man's initiative is what i  dont understand

Mycece,

pls, dont get me wrong. i'm not tryin to be hard on you but you have to agree that there are many unscrupulous people out there who have a lack mentality and believe the only way they can get ahead is to cheat and deceive other people out of their possesion. angry

you put a post on a public blog and you expect people to just fall for it, just like that? when a huge amount of money is involved?

you said someone just made a million bucks but u conveniently neglect to say who!!! maybe someone just lost a million bucks and you, made a million bucks undecided

InvestmentRe: Great Deal On Afribank Shares! by walcolm(m): 9:21am On Nov 19, 2007
@mycece

your story is that people can sell of immediately after release from TS and make a fast profit. if these stocks belong to you, y dont u want to realise that profit for yourself?

ur deal sounds too good to be true and thus smells fishy. it does not make a credible business sense to big boys. only hungry and greedy small time players who want to get rich quick will fall for this type of disconnected logic
BusinessRe: Contract In Abuja by walcolm(m): 9:15am On Nov 19, 2007
you don't just supply stuff off the bat. if d person u met is a DG, then the question is, what ministry? what are the things they use and need? what are the things they lack which of these things can you get?

you might want to take a reconnaissance trip to the ministry to get info about how the place works

that way you wont look like an idiot when you drop a proposal to supply stuff not needed by the ministry
