BusinessRe: What Happened To Soludo's Coins? by walcolm(m): 12:57pm On Jan 18, 2008
what makes u think the coins concept has failed?

the only reason the coins are not so common as u'd expect is that we are not totally cashless yet!!!

as the card and electronic payment culture deepens, you will start noticing more coins in circulation because people will need coins to pay for small services that cards cannot be used for
BusinessRe: What's Wrong With Interswith Website? by walcolm(m): 8:45am On Jan 18, 2008
If you get any mail on interswitch, ATM or online banking right now in naija, pls do not respond and do not provide any sensitive data!!!!

there's a serious scam and attack going on against the ATM technology and interswitch is trying to sort it out.

be careful and tell your friends and family members who use ATM or online banking to also be extra careful

This is the practice here bros.I bought Guinea Insurance PP for 1.20 when it was officially 65k.Hasnt it gone to 4naira?
like wanajo pointed out, you bought at 1.20 because you wanted to buy at all cost, after the official close of the PP. that is a situation u caused for yourself!!!

i'm talking of a situation where an offer is officially open and some people are colluding to create artificial scarcity just to short-change investors!!! even if the price eventually goes up ten fold after listing, that still does not justify the dishonest practise of unwarranted mark ups.
InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by walcolm(m): 2:39pm On Jan 17, 2008
@aktopgun
it's probably true. like i mentioned in my earlier post, this type of thing is becoming very rampant with PPs. hustlers and stockbroking firms that are privy to PP mark up the prices at will and they force scarcity by colluding with the some of the staff of issuing houses running the show.

this is wrong and i think we should do something to nip it before it becomes a serious issue

InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by walcolm(m): 2:22pm On Jan 17, 2008
to prove that they collected N4 per share should be fairly easy. you pay with a cheque that ties "Santrust/Chams PP" that is evidence enough

but this type of thing is becoming very rampant!!! shouldnt we highlight this to the regulators. we are being shortchanged and the thing is becoming a racketeering issue

TV/MoviesRe: Voltron Defender Of The Universe by walcolm(m): 12:07pm On Jan 17, 2008
i think most of the present day asian superhero animations are built on the voltron concept. like someone said, Voltron was way ahead of it time in terms of design

i think voltron is the origin of dat popular children's programcant even remember the name that four guys and a girl driving different high tech automobiles also form one big voltron like superhero. it has both american and asian versions

voltron was really da bomb, it completely overtook G-Force and became the reference point for high tech animations

But what do you folks think about breaking up a long standing relationship of about two years due to genotype incompactibility? But I really love her. I have never loved anyone that way.
you love her no doubt but you will also love the children you will have with her and at least, one of those children will have to suffer for life because of defective genomes. you will be there blaming yourself everytime you see the child crying out in pain because you know you should have prevented it.

my advise, if you really love her, let her marry someone with a genotype that can eradicate the problem and do the same yourself. you will both be better for it

all da best

@poster,

have u received your certficate? if you have not, go to Afribank registrar at anthony village in lagos and lodge a formal complaint that you have not received your certificate, they will let you know which address they sent it to or if it has been returned undelivered.

to sell, you will need the services of a stockbroker. just so you know, if you sell at this time, you will be selling at >50% loss to the amount of money you put in at the IPO

@all.
does anyone have a take on sterling bank? I bought 100,000 units due to market sentiment and now its been on technical suspension for a while now.

I heard about its merger with ecobank. is that still going through?

what are the future prospects?
the prices of both sterling and ecobank have been on suspension as part of the merger arrangement, so unless something serious happens to the negotiations, the merger will go through.

not sure you will be able to sell your sterling bank shares right now, the recommendation by most market pundits on sterling is a SELL. but there's no harm in giving a sell order to your broker if you must sell

if you can afford to wait it out, then wait for the merger consumation and see what happens to the new entity that comes out of it. the prospect might amaze you.

question:
Please how did you receive the excess portion of money, was it through your broker? Or was it paid into your account by GTB. Please carify?

My stockbroker says he does not know about the change in initial price and returned funds.
i got my refund money thru my broker (IBTC)who also happened to be the lead arranger of that deal in nigeria. if you broker says he does not know anything about the return money, just go to GT registrar at anthony in lagos and ask them to point you in the right direction

sorry, i just saw your post that's why my reply is coming so late

Please can anybody brief me how trading of stocks is being done on the floor of STOCK EXCHANGE and how one can make a "quick" cool cash from it within a specified period of time huh.
Stock trading on the floor of the exchange is only done by accredited stockbrokers. you as an individual have to engage the services of these brokers at a fee called commission. they(stockbrokers) charge you a fee when you ask them to buy for you and when you ask them to sell.

to use the services of a stockbroker, you need to register with one (there are so many of them) but only a few are worth your while. if you can get a copy of any public offer prospectus, you will see on one of the last pages, a list of stockbrokers in nigeria.

the cool cash you make is the difference between the price at which you buy and sell after the broker has removed his commission both ways

@Guk,

i dont know when you bought your GTA shares but i do know you could not have got it from the secondary market because GTA is not yet listed on the stock exchange!!!!

i think you should just go to GT Registrar at anthony to confirm your holding if you did not receive a notification from them that your holding was reconstructed. i think they did the reconstruction sometimes in september after an AGM.

in any case, if your holding was reconstructed then, just divide whatever you had before by 2 and that gives you the new no of units i.e. 50000/2=25000

BusinessRe: What To Do With His Retirement Money? by walcolm(m): 2:27pm On Jan 11, 2008
@Opad,

i strongly advise you to make a print out of Seun's advise above and paste it on your heart and that of your uncle.

there are investment opportunites out there but they are so many you don't know which one is worth your while and which ones are fraud. your uncle is retired so this might not be the exact time he should be thinking of becoming the next big money in nigeria. so any investment that looks like fast easy money should be ruled out

what he needs right now is capital preservation so that he can have a means of sustenance month in month out for the rest of his life, so extreme conservativeness is advised when he makes any investment!!! my suggestion is that he should divide the money into 5places (20% each)

1. 20% in a savings account with a bank that does not charge unnecessarily on savings account (he'll get about 2-3%interest rate on his balance). this portion is for his monthly sustenance and emergency spending money like medical bills etc
2. 20% in a fixed deposit with any of the top 7 banks in nigeria. he should roll it over with the interest until such a time that his savings account has become depleted. that should be in about 5 years at least if he is frugal
3. 20% in a mutual fund. i will advise you go with either IBTC, ARM or KAKAWA. all the others are not worth it in my opinion
4. 20% in stocks if he wants to be a bit aggressive
5. 20% to finalise on his accommodation if he has uncompleted property because rent will probably continue increasing and after retirement it is very advisable to have your own house and not have to worry about rent

no gambling!!!! this is a life and death issue.be guided

@all
Sorry guys, I know I shouldn't be asking this here but I need to sort this out urgently.
I have bought shares from numerous brokers and i am wondering if i have to pay N2500 for cscs access for each brokerage house or maybe fill out a seperate form for each broker and merely pay N2500 once and attach all the forms to the one payment.
How much does it cost to place a Trade Alert on my stocks? and since i have more than one broker,will one payment cover all of them?
Please answer me as my brokers all claim ignorance.

Moderator please no vex!
i think you need to pay once. all those accounts are in your name and when you log on to CSCS, fill in your CSCS nos/CHN nos, you should be able to view each account.

InvestmentRe: Minimum Of =n=200,000 To Have A Cscs Account Starting From 1 Jan 2008 by walcolm(m): 5:52pm On Jan 04, 2008
@fizofly,

i will repeat what i said before, you should always take a step back, breathe in & out before typing. your body too hot.

i didnt say people should sell shares worth N200k to get a CSCS acct, what i typed is that when people have share certs from buying IPOs and the value is up to N200k, they will be able to register for a CSCS account.

there's nothing like injustice in this, it's just business. if they choose to not entertain accounts less than N200k, another organization can come up to provide services to that market!!!!! it ignites competition in that industry and that ultimately benefits the common man like you and i and all those people you want to fight for.

CSCS can get away with anything right now because they are the only ones in nigeria offering their services, we need more players in that industry not fighting to keep a monopoly

cool down
InvestmentRe: Minimum Of =n=200,000 To Have A Cscs Account Starting From 1 Jan 2008 by walcolm(m): 12:04pm On Jan 04, 2008
@fizofly,

you need to step back and take a breather. your story is not sounding coherent

why would anybody want to pass a bill to stop public awareness of online trading? and by online trading, what type of market are you talking about?

CSCS might be at liberty to say, portfolios that are lesser than N200k worth cannot get into their system just like banks can say, for you to open a particular class of account, you must have a particular amount. what will happen is that somebody with the financial and personality clout will create a new CSCS for people who have portfolios less than N200k. dont forget that the CSCS is a private company and even though they are the only company giving this service right now, it is not a must that they must be the only one. that might be good for the capital market and the nigerian economy eventually as it will help deepen the market etc

what will simply happen from here on is that minimum opening balance to register with a stockbroking firm will be N200k but if you have shares certs that have a value of N200k, you will also be welcome

Hello house,
I sent my share certificates for verification so that they could be deposited in my CSCS account via my stock broker.
I sent them since July and have been verified by the CSCS but up till now i haven't got my stock position from the CSCS.
Whenever i go to the stock broker to find out about the status i'm told that the stock position is not ready yet.

Please how long does it take to convert my certificates to electronic?
I am afraid if maybe the stock broker has sold my shares without my knowledge.

And how do i contact the CSCS to verify my stock position?

PLS HELP
i understand CSCS does not give the free monthly stock position again. i think they are trying to coerce everybody into registering for the online access, the online access cost 2500 naira per annum and it allows you to log on and view your stock position. you can see your stock position with any stockbroker so long as you know your CSCS account no and/or CHN no.

you can visit the CSCS webpage for information on how to register. it should be quite easy for you if you are based in lagos

if your stockbroker has sold your shares without your consent as you fear, you can make him pay by lodging a complaint wit the SEC. he has a lot to loose if he is investigated

@ easimoni
You may want to read this.

http://www.independentngonline.com/?c=118&a=8199
@Blueband & easimoni,

the return is 5% annualised interest aka per annum; which means, they'd probably calculate from the day the offer officially opened to the official allotment day (about 6 weeks in all). if you do the interest rate calculation on the portion of your money that would be returned to you, you'd find that it wont clean out a tenth of the quarterly profit.

i expect it will happen but that interest portion will probably not come until May/June 2008
