you don't need any help from gurus. if you're dissatisfied with the functionality you're getting from BB, switch to another platform

when you get there, you'll know the benefits
PhonesRe: Credit Deductions On Bold 9900 BIS by walcolm(m): 3:02pm On Sep 12, 2012
Bold 9900 has been in use for close to a year and this is the first time i'm hearing something like this

first question, are you subscribed to BIS?

if you are subscribed to BIS and MTN is deducting your credit, it has nothing to do with the 9900 browser.

temmy.m3:
Thanks guys, am so grateful

@4LLERBUNTU. ll do as u exactly as you explained bro. u 3 much.

@WALCOM. I was thinking of upgrading to ICS but i read about some bugs concerning it, was having a fear of screwing something up as i still feel good with Gingerbread, moreover, i won't really wanna do something that might make my device stuck in boot screen.

....1 question. Can i downgrade back to an older version if eventually i upgraded to ICS but preferred Gingerbread?
believe me there are no bugs on ICS. its your safer option....you actually stand a higher chance of bricking your droid going with the long thing 4ller has given you than you stand upgrading to ICS

code9: Everyday i see people walking around with two or more mobile phones at a time. Why is it so? Is it that the Nigerian GSM industry is unstable or people just like to show off here in Nigeria or people see multiple phones as a status symbol. i don't just get it.
i assume you're not a Nigerian and this is your first visit to Nigeria?

Bawss1: I doubt that the nano sim will implemented in the iPhone 5. Apple recently just applied for standard to be adopted. . . but then again given Apple's ways, you never know.

Anyways we'll all find out this evening.
maybe they'll have microsim and nano sim variants to kick off the adoption of the nanosim

PhonesRe: Airtel Scam!!!! by walcolm(m): 8:15am On Sep 11, 2012
Smuthx: you must have subscribed to a plan that makes them deduct such
yep, at OP, you are most likely on a plan that has daily access charge of N25 in exchange for free sms, lower call rate and probably free data.

just call help desk and ask them to tell you what plan you're on and to explain the features of the plan

PhonesRe: Nokia Lumia 920...finally A Smartphone From Nokia That Can Compete! by walcolm(m): 6:41am On Sep 10, 2012
texazzpete: So...if Nokia could put in a powerful camera like that in that same shell and show it off in a production unit, what would stop them from putting it in the actual device?

Abeg leave all these silly conspiracy theories alone.
Nokia has already been caught cheating! if they could cheat with the video and stills they released originally as coming from the 920 camera, who says they could not rig a staged comparison especially since that session is a Nokia organized comparison session...so where's the conspiracy theory? huh

texazzpete: Actually, in that article that isn't the faked one. The photo you're quoting is actually what your link says is the REAL photo from a Lumia 920.
You may need to pick up a copy of Queen Primer or Brighter Grammar to brush up your reading skills.
excerpt from the article i quoted is below:
Nokia admitted that its Lumia 920 promotional ad contained video recorded by a DSLR and not its PureView camera as claimed in the video. According to a post by Youssef Sarhan, the Finnish company also faked some of the still photos in that video, too.
Sarhan points to the still picture above that allegedly shows the optical image stabilization of the Lumia 920. He notes that the sparkles shown in the background street lights could not have been produced by the Lumia camera, which has a fixed aperture of f/2. This effect is only present in photos captured with camera that’s set to a higher aperture like f/22. It’s a common photography effect that occurs in night shots like the one above.

angrythe reference pointed out a picture at the top of the page and says the picture is the fake picture! if the picture is the one taken by the 920, will the article say its fake? i'm sure you're the one who needs the QUEEN PRIMER AND BRIGHTER GRAMMAR to aid your comprehension or better still help your reading skills first of all. if you don't read, its hard to comprehend

btw, throwing insults at will (especially when it is not merited) just because you're on a faceless forum is juvenile and doesn't show class #justsaying

Here you go

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=jFhhBJ1URCg
pulllleeeeeezzzzzz.....pure bullshit. the pureview camera is a great job but i dont believe this set up....when you buy the publicly available 920, we'll meet in the office and redo this test.

for all you know, the Nokia handset in that clip is rigged with a camera that would not been in the retail unit mere mortals like you will eventually shell out money for. those other devices could have also been tampered with beforehand.

unless you tell me you believe everything in Hollywood movies, disregard that clip

that will be great news
PhonesRe: Galaxy Pocket Wahala!. by walcolm(m): 9:16am On Aug 30, 2012
android devices use data if it is available and Airtel has now configured their network to allow you use data on a PLUG and PLAY basis with no manual configuration necessary if your device requests for data

what that means is, once you have airtime on your sim and your phone demands data, you will be charged on a data PAYG rate and that is why your credit seems to be disappearing

the PAYG rate is high so your best bet is to subscribe to data service to avoid the PAYG rate.
PhonesRe: Help Me Make A Choice Of Phone: by walcolm(m): 9:04am On Aug 30, 2012
geniusbami: I'm in the same dilema, I'm currently using Samsung Galaxy Young S6102, which is quite good with all my necessary applications, but it has the following grave limitations, which has necessitated the urgent need for another one to make up for the shortcomings:

1) Data consumption extremely HIGH; 15MB lasts 24hrs max.- if you are really serious about using a smartphone, consuming just 15MB for 24hrs is a serious joke. even blackberry with best in class data mgt will use more than 15mb of data in a day unless you limit yourself to email, IM and occasional use of social apps
2) ----
3) Closely related to that, up to 12 apps run in the background; WhatsApp I understand but the rest are absolutely out of my control amd it's turning me nuts. - its your job as the end user to learn how to turn off your apps. all apps can be 'killed' aka exited when you are done using them, you should read the manual that came with your phone to learn how to do that..or just ask someone
4) Totally disappointing Task Manager. Every time I try to return to whichever browser it will reload all the pages I was on, and if I minimise the browser long enough, say 20mins, God help me.
5) Internal memory is another BIG disappointment, it's simply impossible to install a few additional apps to those shipped with the phone. - you need to clarify on this. the phone has close to 500MB of RAM and for the price point, it doesnt seem unreasonable.
6) Talking of disappointments, the camera is the train. - at 3MP, what were you expecting nah...dont forget that its all relative...before >5MP cameras came, 3MP was the greatest. so if you compare the quality with higher resolution it will seem to be bad but its not...again, the issue of price point

My greatest catch in the replacement will be
Efficient data consumption,
Support WhatsApp,
Efficient Task Manager and
5MP Camera or more, in that order.

I honestly don't mind a Nokia.
Any suggestions based on experience pls?
based on your requirements, get a BB but you wont get a BB that will do what you want at 40k
